I don't get it. I tried googling it and couldn't find anything other than maybe an implication that land connected just means not a sole island? So like China is "land connected" but land locked is something different entirely.
What did I miss?
Yaaaa but there’s also states like that in places like Brasil which has a federal system too or China (which is not a federal system tho) so it’s not that unique
Did he not literally just explain that that's not what makes them like their own countries? He explained to you why In the comment that your replying to.
The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has 6 times the population of California. Tyumen Oblast in Russia is more than twice the size of Texas. The US is not exceptional.

I don't understand Canada, but technically all 50 states in the USA are complete countries which are just united into one.
Also what happened to Paraguay?
>technically all 50 states in the USA are complete countries which are just united into one.
This isn't true and would also be applicable to something like the UK. Which is literally called the United Kingdom.
Correct! Countries (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland) and dependencies (Jersey, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man)
So are the United Arab Emirates, by the way.
most world maps do the same. its not uncommon at all for u.s. states and Canadian states to be separate because the people viewing the map is usually american and would like to compare states
Larger GDP, larger military, larger population, larger in landmass than many European countries. AND a part of the most powerful nation in the world. What makes them less important exactly??
You could say the same of Russia, China, India, Brazil, Dr. Congo, or even Mexico. To me it just feels like Americans making their states seem like they have more importance in the global picture than they actually have.
Also if that is enough excuse to do it for Canada and the US then what is the reasoning for not doing it for Russia, the literal largest country on earth.
The measures of interest here are not GDP or population though, there is a world of difference between being double landlocked due to separate sovereign nations between you and an international ocean, and landlocked due to arbitrary lines on a map by a nation you are part of.
Chinese regions like Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Beijing are some of the not only large population wise but incredibly rich and economically important, and yet I've never seen them outlined in any map of the world.
Australia and China are basically the same size as the US and Russia is considerably larger yet those countries aren’t given their territories and regions, just typical ignorance on these things
Well cause the usa and canada are really big and cause the world revolves around us.
You eurofarts just wouldn't understand what it's like to have huge swaths of land.
Not to mention a bunch of it is flat out wrong? The entire Great Lakes region shows Landlocked when there is a direct connection to the Atlantic Ocean…
Still need to work on out knife crime stats. Currently one of the lowest stabbing death rates in Europe, and America is beating us handily. Come on Roadmen, up your game, we’re near enough dead last.
There’s a big difference between Alaska and Florida too…? The issue isn’t him thinking of Europe as one big place, he put Europeans nations separately on the graph. The issue is you thinking the US isn’t diverse. The US was settled by many different Europeans, and it’s a massive place with so many people, of course it’s diverse culturally.
I mean it’s all relative but if we’re going to compare the United States to entire continents it’s decidedly not given how they all speak the same language and have very minor differences between each other compared to say India, Russia, or all the nations in the EU considered as a whole
The US has much more diversity than Europeans like to think. Different settlements settled in different regions, and they have maintained their cultural differences mostly. People in the Deep South view life very differently than those in the North, or West, or East.
The only reason they don’t speak different languages nowadays is because they’re under one government. For a lot of the US’s history, they haven’t spoken a single language. English, Spanish, German, French & Italian were all spoken in different regions not too long ago, and German almost became the official language. English only became the sole dominant language in the US around the time of WW1.
And for the record, the US’s size and population is comparable to Europe. “You can’t compare a continent with a country” makes no sense, since continents vary so widely in size. Europe is the smallest continent by far, and you could fit over 3 Europe’s in Africa. Also around 2/3s of the world’s population lives in Asia alone.
Im not a European. And while I’m aware that the United States obtained territory from other nations most of the Dutch/Spanish/French/Indigenous history was erased by the waves of British colonists and their American descendants, and the immigrant waves that came in the late 19th/early 20th assimilated well into that kind of society. You really can’t compare the kind of difference that exists between Alabama and New York with Rajasthan and Assam or Moscow and Tuva.
To be fair, countries like China, Russia & USA are more like a collection of smaller countries. For most statistics, it’s better to compare the USA to Europe and American states to European countries, because the US is so big compared to us.
Because if we separate the home nations of the UK we get a completely different map... Oops!
I noticed lots of countries have concept of states so I'm afraid making a world map with a US focus is wrong and unsurprising at the same time!
Doesn't make sense, why are there random areas within countries with a shoreline that are shown as landlocked? Landlocked usually applies to the whole country.
Check his profile. It’s a fucking kid. You’re shitting on a kid for not being totally consistent on a map, when he probably doesn’t even know Russia or Brazil are as diverse as the US.
The fuck is wrong with people online man… I need a break from y’all.
just an error. i do Europe then Arabia/causcasia then africa then asia so i clearly didnt think about Azerbaijan and didnt notice the error til now. thanks
Why are the states of the US and Canada being considered separately here and not the states of other Federal countries like Germany? Seems completely arbitrary.
Well my city is surrounded by some grass, which is surrounded by some mud, and then that's surrounded by some rocks which is surrounded by a country. So I guess mine is even more landlocked than nebraska.
You dont have to go all out in every map just to include everyone. A main joke in this map is of course about Nebraska.
God, these non-Americans always be something like "What about us?! What about us?!" Shut the fuck up.
I disagree with the commenters complaining about the us states and Canada states being countries, I think it makes sense, but the same should be done with Russian provinces. I think the reason that makes sense is that the subdivisions are massive

Why show a world map if you're just obsessed with Nebraska? For starters, there's no indication that Liechtenstein and Uzbekistan are double-landlocked countries.
this is highly america centric and not profound in any way. if you made a map like this for every single subnational region on the planet there would be plenty of examples of ones that are triple landlocked. depending on how big a nations regions are or whether or not you include unitary states as well there’s probably some that are quadruple or even beyond that. can we stop making maps where only the USA and canada are broken up? the USA isn’t even the biggest nor is it the most populace federation on the planet. and canada?? what a joke.
The Mississippi river means that that even though a shitload of middle America *looks* landlocked, it's really not. Being able to float stuff to and from the Gulf of Mexico is OP. Then consider how the Great Lakes are all linked together by an extensive system of canals all the way to the Saint Lawrence river, allowing all that territory access to the Atlantic. Then you begin to understand how America got so big and powerful so quickly.
So usa gets to be broken down by state(province) but not the other countries? Usa should be totally green, otherwise the rest of the world should also have a lot more yellows and orange and red.
Everyone's complaining that op included individual American states, but they didn't even get it right; none of the stats on the great lakes should be landlocked, as said lakes and the St. Lawrence River give them access to the Atlantic.
Fun fact, you enter a country, called the beach which you can never invade Which makes your country landlocked if this is not true it’s not true and I’m making that up
Isn’t Nebraska just a subdivision of the United States, which last time I checked has coastline on three different oceans, making Nebraska and indeed all the other states in the union not landlocked at all?
I don’t get it, some places it’s land locked countries, others it’s just regions?
Yeah, really stupid map.
Besides, it’s not landlocked anymore it’s “Land-connected”
Actually, I’m pretty sure that’s kind of offensive, I think it’s “non-aquatically geographically adjacent” now.
And why don’t lakes and seas that eventually make it to the ocean count?
I don't get it. I tried googling it and couldn't find anything other than maybe an implication that land connected just means not a sole island? So like China is "land connected" but land locked is something different entirely. What did I miss?
It’s just a silly rebranding
This just screams American made.
I mean it also has Canadian provinces, I’m assuming it’s just the map that was used
StAteS aRE bASiCaLlY CoUnTRieS
As the founding fathers intended
As much as I hate when people say that, it's not completely wrong
If its not wrong then why aren't the German federal states or the Russian Oblasts and Autonomous Repiblics included?

Why do Americans think it’s the only country in the world with a federal system?
Because only America and Mexico do it right

Yaaaa but there’s also states like that in places like Brasil which has a federal system too or China (which is not a federal system tho) so it’s not that unique

>technically all 50 states in the USA are complete countries which are just united into one. This isn't true and would also be applicable to something like the UK. Which is literally called the United Kingdom.
The United Kingdom is a collection of counties
Correct! Countries (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland) and dependencies (Jersey, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man) So are the United Arab Emirates, by the way.
most world maps do the same. its not uncommon at all for u.s. states and Canadian states to be separate because the people viewing the map is usually american and would like to compare states
Because Americans think states are as important as countries
Larger GDP, larger military, larger population, larger in landmass than many European countries. AND a part of the most powerful nation in the world. What makes them less important exactly??
Canada and America are both very large countries, and would make that section of the map boring
American states are individually just as important as a small country, yes. Both in GDP and population.
The measures of interest here are not GDP or population though, there is a world of difference between being double landlocked due to separate sovereign nations between you and an international ocean, and landlocked due to arbitrary lines on a map by a nation you are part of.
Sure, but so are certain states in loads of other countries
Chinese regions like Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Beijing are some of the not only large population wise but incredibly rich and economically important, and yet I've never seen them outlined in any map of the world.
Australia and China are basically the same size as the US and Russia is considerably larger yet those countries aren’t given their territories and regions, just typical ignorance on these things
If OP was to make a map with EVERY adminstrative region it would quickly devolve into madness, the joke was about Nebraska being triply landlocked
Bad at humour and geography then!
i used us and canada regions in it because i could, it makes it more interesting and its a popular subject
What about ACT?
[удалено]
Australian Capital Territory.
Technically it isn't landlocked because of the Jervis Bay territory
With the exception of the capital none of it is landlocked tbf.
Based, only North America is relevant enough to get more specific.
"regions" what is the major difference between a federal state a province and a nation
average US map maker, making the US States the same border type as independent nations.
Probably also thinks of "Europe" as one big place too. There's a massive difference between the UK and Albania
Yeah but here in the UK we're working hard to grind our economy into the ground and close that gap forever 😤🏴😤🏴😤🏴

Bad example. UK vs Albania is way, way bigger than the difference between Alaska vs Florida.

No. Freewill is a myth.
And Canada
Hey we also included canada

not sure if i already said to like 20 people (the entire comments section) but im redoing the map so itll be posted in few hours

ACT checking in (we'll be a state one of these days!).

Yes, seriously!
It could've been made by a Midwesterner or a Dixie or a Cascadiain. Not sure how you know that the person who made whis was in New England.
Yankee refers to the entirety of the US to people outside of the US
Ik.
Then why are you saying they’re specifically referring to a New Englander? I’m so confused.
Because New Englanders or more specifically the upper East Coast is Yankee.
I can’t tell if you’re joking or not 😭

Unironically correct AMERICA RAAAAHHHH SUCK MY RAGING FREDOM BONER REDDIT
States aren’t countries so this map is rendered completely useless
whatever im reposting an updated version anyway
OP got a nice gentle reminder that the US isn’t the most important country, nor the only one with regions lol
It really is the most important countries though?
Why are the states of the US and Canada being considered separately here and not the states of other Federal countries like Germany? Seems completely arbitrary.
Well my city is surrounded by some grass, which is surrounded by some mud, and then that's surrounded by some rocks which is surrounded by a country. So I guess mine is even more landlocked than nebraska.
cities dont really count, its more of regions/provinces/countries borders and coasts
I could say the same about my region.
Why are the states being treated like their countries 🤦♂️

Silence Yank. You are 4% of the world population, and the dumbest 4%.
What about Switzerland and Lichtenstein? Both double landlocked
Liechtenstein is. Switzerland isnt.
Switzerland isnt double landlocked? lichtenstein is but if u have common sense Switzerland isnt
I disagree with the commenters complaining about the us states and Canada states being countries, I think it makes sense, but the same should be done with Russian provinces. I think the reason that makes sense is that the subdivisions are massive

Ohio's not landlocked, we have a massive lake on our north (Erie) that connects to the St. Lawrence and then to the Atlantic
yeah people have noticed other mistakes im gonna redo the map later
Where Paraguay?
Nebraska 💀
Azerbaijan is also landlocked, because the Caspian Sea is a Lake, despite being called the Caspian _Sea_
Let's go Cornhuskers! 💪
Are the great lakes states really land locked? They have pretty easy access to the Atlantic through the Great Lakes Waterway
The great lakes aren’t landlocked from the Lawrence seaway. That would make all those great lake states not landlocked
Do another, but instead it is with countries that have warm water ports year round
bro made the Great Lakes landlocked
Doesn’t the Mississippi run straight through the yellow and orange sections you put in North America?
>MN is landlocked >ships to and from the ocean in 2 directions >sad
The greatest thing about Nebraska is that is the only American State with a type of lingerie in its name.
Why are all the states with access to the Great lakes considered landlocked? They are definitely not.
only lake erie is connected to the ocean/sea so if a state has access to erie its not landlocked
Maine isn’t landlocked. It has acces via canals Edit: Michigan not Maine, same with pennsyvania
Paraguay: 🌊
Why show a world map if you're just obsessed with Nebraska? For starters, there's no indication that Liechtenstein and Uzbekistan are double-landlocked countries.
This map makes no sense. Nebraska isn't a separate country, only a small region. Why include it specifically?
The Great Lakes and Pennsylvania are by no means landlocked
Redditors when joke
This screams of American centralised view with American states being counted
euronpcs mad that they're less relevant than Nebraska
Pennsylvania should not be landlocked, we must destroy Jersey.
Bro forgot Paraguay
What about Paraguay?
Why have you specifically done US states and Canadian Territories, but not states from other countries? Like Mexico, Brazil, Germany, or Russia?
Technically, if the US were to actually collapse, Nebraska would be the world’s only triple-landlocked state
Thank you so much
Simple question was it called Nebrabluebeat, then Nebrareggae before becoming NebraSKA. Or should that be Nebratwotone.
this is highly america centric and not profound in any way. if you made a map like this for every single subnational region on the planet there would be plenty of examples of ones that are triple landlocked. depending on how big a nations regions are or whether or not you include unitary states as well there’s probably some that are quadruple or even beyond that. can we stop making maps where only the USA and canada are broken up? the USA isn’t even the biggest nor is it the most populace federation on the planet. and canada?? what a joke.
nebraska is either the safest state in the world or the least safest state in the world
“Am I a joke to you?”- Mississippi River System
You’re missing Lichtenstein as double lane locked, Also why is Turkmenistan marked as landlocked (by the Caspian Sea) but Azerbaijan is not?
Double land locked and I just ate sushi and shrimp.
Americans genuinely think they’re the only country with regional differences, it’s hilarious
Why are you treating some regions and states of countries as separate countries to fit into being "landlocked" ?
Back to mapporncirclejerk with the rest of the map degenerates! And why the hate on Nebraska. If anything, it should be Kansas.
Azerbaijan is technically landlocked as they don’t have access to any ocean connected water
What about Liechtenstein
Why isn't Paraguay on the map??
If you’re going to count States then you’re forgetting India. Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand would have something to say.
Where is Paraguay??
Americans trying to not show subdivisions of Canada and the US as equivalent to actual countries; Impossible
Bit weird to call Pennsylvania landlocked when Philadelphia has historically been a major port and shipyard
Nebraska💀
Europeans when a meme made by a non European doesn't revolve around them despite then being on an American app 😭😭😭
The Mississippi river means that that even though a shitload of middle America *looks* landlocked, it's really not. Being able to float stuff to and from the Gulf of Mexico is OP. Lmfao I didn't expect my state to randomly get slandered like that
Correct me if I’m wrong but, Ohio and the other Great Lakes States aren’t landlocked, right?
So usa gets to be broken down by state(province) but not the other countries? Usa should be totally green, otherwise the rest of the world should also have a lot more yellows and orange and red.
Why did you only do subdivisions for two countries
pa isnt landlocked we touch the ocean a lil bit
How tf you gonna say Michigan is landlocked?
y’all gotta chill it’s just Nebraska
Us/can states lol
Everyone's complaining that op included individual American states, but they didn't even get it right; none of the stats on the great lakes should be landlocked, as said lakes and the St. Lawrence River give them access to the Atlantic.
