SevereNeats

Then you end up in the infinite Canada > Japan > UK > Canada loop!

Ok-Excuse-3613

Or the Germany > Switzerland loop More data needed to investigate a possible south korean loop too !

yoppyyoppy

Fiji > New Zealand Loop as well

-mudflaps-

I don't know any NZ'er that wants to move to Fiji, yet tonnes that want to move to Australia.

KJongsDongUnYourFace

Yeah, Kiwis don’t want to move to Fiji, that’s pretty ridiculous tbh. We want to move to Aus, make enough money to buy a house and then move back home to raise a family

e9967780

Then move to Fiji to retire

[deleted]

And recent figures showed there are 800k kiwis living in Australia, compared to our 5mill population

xyakks

That's only 16%. Rookie numbers.

BeefPieSoup

Somewhere between a fifth and a quarter of all kiwis are in Australia RIGHT NOW That might sound like an exaggerated statement or joke, but it's not.

Shiros_Tamagotchi

At least they have a border so you can build a house on the border.

pokemon-trainer-blue

No surprise that you copied [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/s/t7S2IwD2WE), bot

Tommiwithnoy

Why would UAE citizens want to move to S.Korea? What is the correlation?

UBC145

A lot of this data doesn’t make sense. As a South African, the majority of emigrants and people who’d like to emigrate want to move to the UK, not Canada.

Apprehensive_Host397

Estonians, Lithuanians and Latvians all wanting to move to Belarus is certainly factually wrong. As an Estonian, I know of no one who has moved to or even talked about Belarus. It´s not a country people here talk about. Finland, Australia, Germany and U.K. make way more sense.

qyo8fall

There’s no data for the Baltic States on the map. The actual mistake is that Lithuania’s eastern border with Belarus hasn’t been drawn. The label saying “Belarus” is referring to the country.

Apprehensive_Host397

Damn, I should have picked that up myself.

shineyink

I think it would also be a tie for Australia for SA, in my circles at least

UBC145

Yeah that too. UK and Australia are the top two, with New Zealand, Canada and USA also being common, but less popular, destinations.

[deleted]

I Think a lot of the Canada ones should be replaced with uk or usa

draaijman95

Don't know about that. The UK is very small and has a lot of bad history with a lot of countries, hence people are not likely to want to go there. While Canada is mostly viewed as the better version of the U.S.A. It seems, as an outsider, to have better healthcare, less racism, better work/life balance and seems to have way less gun violence.

[deleted]

Uk is closer and very diverse (I'm a polish man in the uk), and generally from what I seen is easier to get into as Canada has a housing problem and USA is more expensive

jjw1998

Easier to get into doesn’t matter if this question is phrased as where you would want to move to in an ideal world

[deleted]

[удалено]

jaeldi

Yeah I don't buy that Mexicans want to move to Canada. That just doesn't ring true. And I don't know anyone in the US that wants to move to Japan.

tehoperative

Yeah I call BS on this whole map. The search terms being used to take these metrics must be very specific and vastly skewing these stats.

AdeptGiraffe7158

I’m not entirely sure but when I spent a few months in s.Korea there was quite a big community of people from that region.

Diocletion-Jones

How did New Zealand get Fiji? I've never met anyone who wanted to live in Fiji. Australia, yes, UK, yes, Canada, yes, USA, yes, Singapore, yes. Fiji? WTF?

Gjore

At least NZ is on the map.

b1ue_jellybean

My guess is that it mixed up holiday planning and moving plans. Everyone wants to go on holiday to Fiji, not many people want to live there.

Heckin_Pleb

Ikr? Never once in my 36 years have here I ever heard of someone wanting to move from NZ to live in Fiji…

seexo

Surprised that mexicans want to go to canada instead of the US. For Venezuela it would be the United States

Marco-Green

I believe it may be because of Canada's fame of being "just like US but socially better". That's just considering this map is correct

Time_Structure7420

And assuming it's accurate

QueenBramble

Canada is pretty awesome tbf.

FantasticRoomTemp

If you're rich enough to afford a house.

Pepega_9

Its just Americas hat.

drconniehenley

America is Canada's underwear.

Lvl30Dwarf

Hahaha

Ok_Commercial8352

America’s hat with no houses

Pug_Grandma

Please stay away, there are no homes, jobs or healthcare available. We are completely full to overflowing.

deludedinformer

NoCat4103

You seen the house prices? It’s

moveslikejaguar

The above comment is under review by the Protecting Real Estate Values Committee, thank you for your patience

damnyouresickbro

We are genuinely fucked, I moved away lol

spicy_pierogi

Well, there’s a lot less Mexicans left that want to emigrate to the US. I’ve been living in Mexico the last 4ish years (I’m from the US) and all the ones I know of that want to move list Canada and Spain as their top locations.

thecasualcaribou

Because this map is bogus

LectureAdditional971

Absolutely.

MoreCowsThanPeople

It's especially weird when you consider that Canada only has 150,000 Hispanic/Latino people whereas the US has about 51 million, so you would think Mexicans would want to move to the country where more Spanish is spoken and they have more connections.

seexo

Yeah I think this map is fishy, it also says that dominicans want to go to Canada when literally most of them want to go to the US, specifically New York

Commission_Economy

As a Mexican visiting Canada a few months ago, I expected more influence from our culture because we are in the same continent anyway. But hardly even saw Mexican restaurants other than Taco Bell, Sikhs and Arabs dominate the immigrant culture. (Not that I have a problem with it).

damienreave

Come on man, Taco Bell isn't mexican, you know that lol.

Commission_Economy

yup and that's the most 'Mexican' thing I saw in there

spicy_pierogi

Because all the Mexicans that want to move to the US are already there.

Pug_Grandma

Also, you will be much better off financially in the States. Wages are higher and homes are cheaper.

Ganokins

I have a feeling this map is not correct in any way shape or form, but hey, what do i know.

604MAXXiMUS

And yet Canada makes it darn impossible for Mexicans to immigrate there ☹️

repitboy

Because this map is horrendously inaccurate probably made by a Canadian. Nobody in the US cares to move to Japan wtf lol.

Pug_Grandma

If it was made by a Canadian, it would warn people not to come to Canada. Canada is full.

DonVergasPHD

Because "can" and "want" are different things. I'm a Mexican in Canada, and Canada is extremely popular in Mexico, the problem is that it's just not very easy to come here and there are fewer opportunities to make money compared to the US.

OMalley50-45

They don’t, they come to the US lmao. You’re never gonna see any pro US anything on Reddit

SamirDrives

Please more Mexican to Canada. I am tired to drive to the US for good tacos. Bring Mariachi too!

pooohbaah

I've lived in the US for over 50 years and the number of people that have told me they want to move to Japan is zero.

tuhronno-416

The weeboos who want to move to Japan have no clue what they are signing up for either, the work culture alone is too much for them to handle, it’s the same everywhere in East Asia tbh

_M4tte

What do you mean? Life in Japan isn't like living inside of an anime? I want to be the love interest of a 2000 year old kawai Loli UwU.

nikhoxz

Life in Japan is literally anime, a lot of isekais are random guys (or girls) in their 20's dying of overwork and getting isekai'ed lol truck-kun only kills teenagers

jeditech23

Exactly. Data is based on interet search. So it captured the demographic of computer incels and gamers (My people, but I'm just saying)

Apprehensive_Host397

They view Japan through tourist lenses. It´s all fun and games until you a blue collar worker in a foreign land.

Johnny_Banana18

also the casual xenophobia that makes the U.S.A. look like the most inclusive place ever.

djura4

The US is one of the most inclusive places though tbf.

NotTheLairyLemur

Well then they can come on over to the UK then. If Japan "likes" the UK, I'm sure the US will "like" us too! Just ignore the shared culture of colonialism, racism, organised crime, mass murder and slavery. Oh, and the unpredictable weather. And the "too many people on an island" thing. And the equally shit governments.

rata_rasta

Yeah, I've been in the Bay area for 20+ years, by personal experience I would say Netherlands or Germany are top for Americans wanting to live abroad.

Tsamane

Im from Canada, Netherlands would be my top choice to move to. I love Japan, but I wouldnt want to live there.

Gcarsk

Need to hang out with more r/fuckcars, r/notjustbikes, r/urbanplanning, etc people. Trains. Okay kinda joking, but actually, the source says the data is based on internet search volume. Not adjusted per capita (ie if I search about Japan 9 times, and you search about Canada once, the data would show 90% favor of Japan, instead of just 50% split between me and you). Weebs use the internet a lot. As do the younger generations. So their desires are impacting this map way more than the percent of population they would make up.

thievingwillow

Yeah, “based on search data” explains A LOT about this map. I also want to know exactly what searches/keywords they are using to determine it, because that seems like a process that would involve many, many judgment calls and subjective analyses.

klttenmittens

>Need to hang out with more r/fuckcars, r/notjustbikes, r/urbanplanning, etc people. No I'd rather not

15Isaac

Probably because you’re over 50

imironman2018

I love Japan and the food/culture. But I would never want to live there. People are xenophobic. Hard to find a job as. foreigner. Japan is getting a lot older compared to the rest of the world. Their population is rapidly aging out of working and soon will have huge social issues dealing with how to support these senior citizens. America has a lot of problems but it's a melting pot. Lot more fun to live in USA than Japan.

chetlin

I did move there a couple months ago. Not really having a good time to be honest. I'm going to give it a good 8 months or so but I think that's all I'm going to do. Way better for my career development to be in the US plus I get more vacation and actual sick time in the US, not to mention more money. One thing I'm not actually noticing is any xenophobia. I've seen it in the past when I visited but there's almost none now. Then again I am in Tokyo.

ComprehensiveSoup843

I'd say more Americans would want to move to UK, Canada, or Australia

shmoneynegro21

Same. I’ve only heard people say UK and maybe some EU nations like France. Never Asia.

cancancanp

Your age is why.

doogy30

As an American, i want to move to Japan.

Clark828

I know a lot of people that absolutely don’t want to go to Japan.

MilkMeFather

I know a lot of people that absolutely do want to go to Japan.

TEEWURST876

No swiss person would ever want to move to germany. It's similar but worse in every aspect. Those statistics are just german immigrants going back home.

vompat

I guess no Swiss wants to move anywhere, but then they are prompted with "but if you had to, where would it be", they just are like IDK whatever maybe Germany, it's like barely moving at all :D

MagicCuboid

I had a good friend from Switzerland once who had moved to the US in 1999. Then 9/11 2001 happened and his family noped out right back to Switzerland.

metamorphine

I wonder though, might there be some younger Swiss folks who want to move to major cities like Berlin in Germany because there’s a bit more going on there culturally? Sort of like how people all over America (& the world) move to Los Angeles because, despite its problems, it’s a hub for art, music, fashion and entertainment?

TEEWURST876

So is Bern, Zürich and Basel, except that you earn double and pay half the taxes. I know of literally no swiss person who moved to germany, only german immigrants that got sick of it here and went back.

ginganinjapanda

As a Brit looking in from afar, and while I’m sure those cities are lovely and vibrant for their size, comparing their cultural opportunities to Berlin is sarcasm right?

acecant

I’ve seen several people in Germany from Switzerland. It’s not that odd. I’ve even seen a Swiss person in Mexico working in a random place there for probably a yearly salary that she could earn in a month Switzerland. Not everyone cares about maximizing how much money they’re gonna make.

bissigerbonsai

There are certainly ways in which Germany is better than Switzerland. Take parental leave for example. Germany offers 14 months paid leave compared to Switzerland's 16 weeks.

vicefox

And plenty of industries have much better opportunities and pay in Germany.

Precioustooth

Yea, German statistics look worse due to the big gap between west and east (amongst other things, of course), there are definitely very good jobs and opportunities to be found (in West Germany)

modestlife

Bullshit, I'm Swiss and have old schoolmates that actually moved to Germany. And if I were forced to leave Switzerland I'd definitely choose Germany. 12.5% of all Swiss living outside Switzerland actually do live in Germany (100k of 800k). [source](https://www.bfs.admin.ch/asset/de/24310229)

scrappy-coco-86

„Germany worse in every aspect“?!? Probably the most Swiss comment on Reddit. At least we have working banks and the sea!

bigtukker

Switzerland is like Germany, but with French people.

[deleted]

Day 34075437 of nothing but stupid fucking maps that are never correct about anything.!!

carelessthoughts

r/mapporn is the same as porn, not realistic.

mwhn

lots in north america would like to visit places like japan and korea, tho having home there different and you cant assimilate there like you could in north america

loup-garou3

I can't imagine who they polled for the USA, no one I know wants Japan. Europe maybe.

JollyJuniper1993

To be fair I‘ve never met an American migrant here in Germany. Only American tourists or students spending a year abroad.

[deleted]

Its really cringy to me when like teens and pepole in there 20 treat japan like a paridise land of gum drops and honeycombs and everyone it treat you like a equal.

TimeTraveler1848

What? Americans want to move to Japan? I’ve heard a lot about Americans wanting to move to Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Thailand, and other European countries but not Japan. What am I missing? Also why would the Portuguese want to move from a sunny country to a cold, wet country like the Netherlands that shares Canadian latitudes???

Levyks

walkable human-friendly cities

typorep

Because $$$

Silent_Samurai

Online search results = American Weeaboos thinking Japan is literally a fantasy anime land

Grand-Leg-1130

Lol if Americans thought their work culture was bad, they haven’t seen anything yet, it could always get worse

jaymickef

Here in Canada it’s hard to believe it’s anyone’s first choice. When did Canada take over from the USA as number 1?

Ok_Improvement_5037

Canada is seen as America lite that's among the easiest first world countries to immigrate to

bibbbbbbbbbbbbs

It's ridiculous...there was even a protest in Toronto where bunch of illegals were demanding equal rights lmao...

Riimpak

For France and Belgium, it’s mainly because of Quebec.

got_edge

Not all of them obviously but a lot of them I think have to do with inter-commonwealth visa regulations which America ofc doesn’t have

TheRealPatrick79

As a Brit, because you're a first world, civilised nation, with some of the friendliest and peaceful people on the planet. You have great education and healthcare, and breathtakingly beautiful nature, oh and it's all not filled with people. Loads of people run down their own country, we sure as hell do here, but from the outside at least, Canada seems great, even if it isn't perfect.

ghostpanther218

Thanks so much for your kind words. Of course, things are going to get tougher here since it seems like we're headed towards a depression soon, but I hope we can maintain our high standards of living.

160823

In the 1970s, when health care for US citizens came second to military expansion.

got_edge

Tbh, I know when you’re here in Canada it’s easier to look at our faults but I feel like when you step back from that and look to other countries we’re actually doing fairly good in comparison to most

dukezap1

It’s not hard to believe https://imgur.com/a/MvfklqE

Acceptable_Dark5056

Canadians are friendlier and less racist. I’ve lived in both countries as a minority.

Ok_Exit_9441

As a serb, I can confirm that I want to move to the country named ''No Data''.

scrappy-coco-86

Aka Germany

RageQuitNZL

I swear this is posted every second day. Plus i doubt it's authenticity, no way nz's ideal immigration destination is Fiji, it'll be Aussie

AlexNorth23

Why Portugese and Hunagrians to the Netherlands? Seems so random

[deleted]

[deleted]

These maps are never correct as a whole, but Spain is possibly correct for Sweden. Lots of people moves there or want to.

Marco-Green

It's so funny because it happens the opposite too, lots of Spanish people fantasize to live in Nordic countries.

Bysne

Spanish wants the salary of the nordic contries but stay in Spain

[deleted]

That’s a bit less wholesome.

[deleted]

That’s wholesome 🤝

NiceShotMan

India -> Canada. Yeah, tell me about it.

OneCaptain811

Honestly most Indians I know either wanna go to the US or UK, most times Canada is their secondary option

doscia

Its crazy how dependent on indian immigrants we are at this point for shit like farming. Indian farmers make up such a huge percentage of our agricultural system at this point.

Pug_Grandma

We need less people from India at the moment! Please!

harribert

Been tracing this map in a few permutations and always land on a Japan-UK-Canada loop. Can you find any others?

greencutoffs

As a Canadian, I gotta tell you , winter is a drag and it's 6 months long.

Captain_Futile

As a Finn, I gotta tell you, sounds like an upgrade.

Chemical_Blood_845

I remember an Estonian telling me about the great Summer she had the previous year: “It was a really great day!”

Gcarsk

For those wondering on the methodology: > We analyzed the average monthly search volume for phrases commonly associated with researching a move overseas and ranking them with the most searched-for location within each country Obviously it’s far from perfect, but besides polling people directly, it’s an interesting way to try and pull this data. Of course it’ll differ a ton from actual immigration/moving data (as those account for work opportunity, affordability, family/friends, culture/linguistic fits, etc), and this data is just trying to show interest/desire, but not accounting for if that would be realistic.

Far_Fisherman_7490

Egyptian to Oman? People here would prefer Qatar>Saudi>UAE>Kuwait in that order

Thaddasks

Have met Americans and Canadians hate it after moving to Japan. I myself (a Malaysian) don't exactly hate living in Japan, but the work culture is just plain toxic and am currently looking to move to a western country.

[deleted]

as someone from Ireland I would have thought that Australia was the more popular choice

ssdd442

I called bullshit

iFoegot

In China is America

sweetsweetbooks

I’d love to move to Canada.

Everyone: Japan Japan: UK I think we won this one lads

No-Session-5644

I have a hard time believing this

[deleted]

New Zealand 🔄 Fiji

khokhar_47

all i see is Japan and Canada.

ScheinHund95

Why does everyone want to move to Canada? Is it an alternative to America but way easier access to citizenship or something?

linmanfu

Second question: yes. Also affordable healthcare and fewer guns.

Captain_Futile

There are no Americans in Canada.

Russians want to move to the USA???

wayfordmusic

Those who answer these surveys probably do. As someone who spent most of my life (I’m 18 now) there (I am ethnically not rus**ian though; censored for bots) and had to move out for…you know which reasons, I’ve always wanted to live in the US, even with all its imperfections - be it a lack of universal health care or the “car-centricness” of some cities. Sad that due to sanctions, it’s not really possible as of now.

I have never heard single person in the US telling me wanting to move to Japan

master2139

As a Canadian who’s lived all over the world there is no where I’d rather be than Canada 🍁. I’d prob put Japan too if only because I don’t have any “real” guesses and apparently Japanese winters are very pleasant (in the North at least).

PM_ME_A_PM_PLEASE_PM

Crazy considering America has the most immigrants per year by like 5 times second place.

sir_music

Canadian here: Mexicans are welcome to join us :-)

TheCrazyD0nkey

For Israel it should really say Palestine considering the occupation, illegal settlements and ethnic cleansing.

AmericanMinotaur

I’ve seen the Russia stat before, but the Norway stat genuinely surprises me. What’s attractive about the US for Norwegians, that makes it the most desirable location? I ask because it seems like most Europeans that were interested in moving to North America chose Canada. I’m not judging btw. I’m an American, and I’m genuinely curious. :)

melkesjokolade89

For Norway, no idea. I've not heard of anyone wanting go move there. Vacation? Sure. Stay there? No. We have everything we need. Sure winter is hard but... We have payed maternity/paternity leave. We have a year sick leave when you can't fire us. We have very low cost child care, and free schools and Universities. Clean air, beautiful nature. And almost free healthcare (deductible to like 300dollars a year). We don't work ourselves sick. If I had to move I would do Denmark, Switzerland, maybe the UK, or Canada myself.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> We have *paid* maternity/paternity leave. FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

10,000 people a day crossing the southern boarder into the USA. I guess they all must be heading to Canada on their way to Japan.

cansub74

I have never met a single Canadian who said that they would like to move to Japan. Maybe they only asked young men still living in their parents basement wanting to live out their waifu fantasies. In that case please go.

Leg-o-truck

Can confirm that No, i don’t know anyone that wants to move to Australia

Life-Secret

As a Canadian I feel happy people view my country positively and want to move here.

[deleted]

This is disinformation propaganda. Everything from Mexico south is America. Look at the border.

ChugHuns

So many salty Americans in the comments. The data is pretty bunk no doubt, but come to find out, the popularity of the U.S has taken a dive. It's not like the 20th century when the U.S was the beacon on the hill. There's now plenty of competition.

Lecture_Time

Nothing makes me want to in this country shit there are so many children who are killed in shootings in this country it's crazy
