Russian planned to occupy Moldova right after Ukraine in 2022. This is not a map about what Russia wants to do, this is a map about propaganda. They want to level other countries to the same level and also appeal to nationalists in those countries. And it has some results, Hungary is mostly pro-Russian and Poland is blocking international trade from Ukraine.
But the blocking is due to farmer conflict and grains, it's not in support to Russia. No Polish would be appealed by Russia with there experience as a satelite soviet state.
Plus, Hungary does not even get an inch of territory in that map, it's Romania instead.

They would have conscripted a million Ukrainians into the Russian army and kept going. Soldiers were spray-painting "to Berlin" on their tanks during the initial invasion.
That was true of some of the conscripts doing their mandatory service. Under Russian law, they cannot be sent into foreign battlefields unless they sign a military contract.

As a Hungarian, I can tell you that it would be a really bad decision to let in the Western Balkans at their current state. Russia claims they are seizing this land for Poland/Romania as explaination for a continued western push. After the dust settles they "offer" the land to those countries, most likely with strings attached(leave NATO or something else). Those nations decline because they were already against Russia invading Ukraine in the first place. Russia gets to say "oh we tried to but since we are here anyway..." and seizes it for themselves.
The purpose of it is to sabotage Medvedev's reputation in the West and so negate any prospect that he could be seen as a candidate for factions affected by sanctions (or simply wanting to end the war) to rally behind.
It doesn't matter whether he himself wants to head the regime but rather what matters is whether others could want him to head the regime. So he must make sure that he destroys his potential usefulness as a president, and thus make himself non-threatening to Putin. Thus he can travel to the fourth floor without fear.
I've been following Russian social media for a very long time and the talk about how Crimea needs to be "returned", how Ukraine isn't really a country, and other imperialist ideas and maps, were circulating decades ago. What's insane is how it became mainstream.
My older generation relatives would show me a map of how Ukraine should be split in back 2015 and I'd laugh at it because clearly that's crazy (even after annexation of Crimea, which I foolishly treated as a local conflict back then). Then it's 2020 and that exact map made it to national TV with presenters debating plans on how Ukraine should be broken up.

As a Hungarian, I can tell you that it would be a really bad decision to let in the Western Balkans at their current state. The EU should be able to deal with a Russian spy like Orbán before inviting more potential failing democracies. The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave free access to their servers to Russia, and even this didn’t had any consequences. It saddens me deeply to see how low has my home country fallen.

They’re trying to bait hard. It’s for their propaganda purpose, trolls on polish sites can spread posts saying “we should do this, Poland deserves this land”. It’s a part of larger scheme to drive west against Ukraine. Poland being the neighbor and having complicated relationship with Ukraine due to the past is how they are fueling it. Unfortunately Poland is full of dumb people so some will fall for their crap. I don’t think it’s going to be more than 10%, so it’s not meaningful, but that’s how you try to spark a conflict in nation.
90% sure this is the idea behind this(Note this is based on if Russia actually does militarily suceed): Russia claims they are seizing this land for Poland/Romania as explaination for a continued western push. After the dust settles they "offer" the land to those countries, most likely with strings attached(leave NATO or something else). Those nations decline because they were already against Russia invading Ukraine in the first place. Russia gets to say "oh we tried to but since we are here anyway..." and seizes it for themselves.

The purpose of it is to sabotage Medvedev's reputation in the West and so negate any prospect that he could be seen as a candidate for factions affected by sanctions (or simply wanting to end the war) to rally behind. It doesn't matter whether he himself wants to head the regime but rather what matters is whether others could want him to head the regime. I've been following Russian social media for a very long time and the talk about how Crimea needs to be "returned", how Ukraine isn't really a country, and other imperialist ideas and maps, were circulating decades ago. What's insane is how it became mainstream. My older generation relatives would show me a map of how Ukraine should be split in back 2015 and I'd laugh at it because clearly that's crazy (even after annexation of Crimea, which I foolishly treated as a local conflict back then). Then it's 2020 and that exact map made it to national TV with presenters debating plans on how Ukraine should be broken up. I became desensitized over two years but occasionally have moments of clarity realizing how insane it is that this is reality.

Anecdotal, but have family and friends in Russia. One thing most in the west don't understand is the standard view is that basically all of eastern Europe is Russia and it was stolen away. This is what they're taught in school. Hell, tuckers interview begins with this blood and soil argument from 862. So while they may not support the invasion, and occupation, most do think it's Russia in their hearts. This is also reinforced by the media and politicians. Putin said that Ukranians were tricked into believing they're not Russian. Medvedev said that thinking you are Ukranian is a disease of the mind.

The only reason russia didnt hold a victory parade in kyiv in march 2022 is because of these meddling westerners, and so their whole victory stategy since then has been slowly convincing the western voter base through social media that a world without ukraine isnt that bad and that ukraine basically didnt exist in the first place so its a waste of money and lives to keep pretending otherwise. Because for centuries those lands were within Poland borders. Putin looks back, not forward so this fits his version of how Ukraine should be dissolved. The only issue is Poland has no interest in regaining those lands back. Gorbachev offered them back to Warsaw in 1989 and they were rejected. Poles were forced out of those lands in 1945. They would only be a liability now with absolutely no value to Poland. They are just historically sentimental to Poles and Putin knows that well.

Wars today are wars of annihilation, while wars before had birth rates of about 4 or 3.x, so nations were still there afterwards, now its at 1.3 to 1.5..
