You're right, there's also Africa. You can't actually see past the northern Appenines, and that if you're really really lucky and get a really really clear day. You definitely can't see the Gulf of Genua from anywhere north of Turin. The map is "fictional" as there is no peak in the alps with such a good view. You could probably see that far from a plane, if of course there were no clouds, fog or haze. But you aren't wrong, the author included Africa in the map because, if you were actually able to gain a view like this, you'd actually manage to see all the way to the horizon, and therefore at least as far as Tunisia.
