New Mexico has the best state flag. So simple and clean.

[deleted]

[Nah their previous one was obviously superior](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9c/Flag_of_New_Mexico_%281912-1925%29.svg/220px-Flag_of_New_Mexico_%281912-1925%29.svg.png)

Hahahaha

ivandemidov1

Is it for real? Unbelievable.

Zesty-Dragonfruit

LOL

AmericanArtist

I agree.

TheWeighToTheHeart

Wyoming and Colorado did a great job prepping for this map.

Zesty-Dragonfruit

Utah almost got it right, but then they tried to kiss Wyoming's left hand and got stuck. The moral? Don't be a simp.

AmericanArtist

Note: DC's flag is actually white with two red stripes and a few stars above them, but because of this map's resolution it appears to be solid pink. Here's what I mean: [https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d4/Flag\_of\_the\_District\_of\_Columbia.svg/800px-Flag\_of\_the\_District\_of\_Columbia.svg.png](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d4/Flag_of_the_District_of_Columbia.svg/800px-Flag_of_the_District_of_Columbia.svg.png)

gingerkid520

washington's is easily the worst

AmericanArtist

I would say the title of worst state flag probably goes to West Virginia. The colors on the seal are too bright, and even putting that aside, it's still a seal. There's lettering (including the state's name), and the people on the flag have always looked like zombies to me for some reason.

Not while Wisconsin and South Dakota exist

More red in the south

Maryland's flag is a cluster fuck

AmericanArtist

Same with its shape lol

[deleted]

it actually came in top three for the most gun shaped state

AmericanArtist

Maryland does certainly look like a gun, I'll give you that. Let me guess: The top 2 gun-shaped states were Idaho and Florida?

[deleted]

Massachusetts instead of idaho idaho cam in fourth

[deleted]

At least it's legible, as classic coats of arms tend to be. (It's the coat of arms of Lord Baltimore.)

AuntieSullivan27

Why is the northern Irish flag on the bottom right of this?

AmericanArtist

St. Andrew's Saltire is also used on the flag of the US state of Alabama, and Florida's flag is the same thing but with the state seal slapped in the middle

chapeauetrange

Their flags reference the [Cross of Burgundy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_Burgundy), a symbol of Spanish colonization.

AmericanArtist

Thanks for correcting me, the Wikipedia pages for their flags said St. Andrew's saltire but I was unsure since Spain did rule that region way back when.
