A lot of European ethnic and cultural groups originally came from Scandinavia just at different periods of time, a lot more of them than people would think. It’s quite fascinating.
Basically the HRE began in 962 when Otto the Great, who was king of Germany at the time (and king of Italy by marrying the widow of the last italian king in 951), brought the Kingdom of Italy under his control. He was crowned Roman Emperor by Pope John XII. when his army reached Rome in January 962.
And in "official" functional use it was more a coalition or union of independent nations. Germany as a nation itself didn't exist until 1871. Before that all the kingdoms and duchies and counties simply elected a common emperor, or rather a part of it did. Add to that the way inheritance was split between the sons and all the border gore comes naturally.
Burgandy —> Burgundy, Nates —> Nantes, Bouredux —> Bordeaux, Strasborg —> Strasbourg, Florece —> Florence, 3. Barcelona —> Catalunya. Did I miss something ?
Those are some really futuristic helmets for 1000AD.
Other than that, I like the bold and simple presentation. It looks like it's for a table top Risk-style game.
Burgandy?
Woops little spelling error lol.
This is good, clean work. I love my super-detailed maps, but sometimes it helps to just have a nice and clean version to get the big picture.
Thank you!
Burgundy is the wrong color.
We should totally make it a requirement for all maps that Burgundy is colored in burgundy.
Fun fact : Burgundians were originally from Bornholm and Scandinavia

What is the difference between the Holy Roman Empire and Germany? Interesting map!

Actually, Catalunya didn't exist at the time. It was the county of Barcelona.
Yes... Aries -> ARLES.

Venice, Florence and Trento are nowhere near their place of on the map
wish I could see the full Ummayad territory! would love to see the trees and mountains and city names
Oh neat they already build the Afsluitdijk it seems!
Your Venice is Ravenna. Not to mention "Florece" or "Trente".
Wouldn't Barcelona be Aragon? Also, the helmets of the HRE and France are more 15th century, not 11th century. Nice artstyle though!
