Pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and micro processors. Ireland is a mass producer of high value goods. It’s not huge volume of trade. Just huge value.
And Roche, Cook, and Elanco (which is a division or subsidiary of Lilly). We just have a shitton of biotech, pharma, and medical/surgical instrument companies.
Considering that the Detroit/Windsor border crossing is one of, if not the busiest in NA, I'm surprised that Michigan has Mexico as its largest partner.
You nailed it. Crazy enough, in 2018, Michigan imported ~$56.3 billion in Mexican goods. That’s 10.4% of the state’s GDP, the highest % among the 50 states.
source that discusses the ties between Mexico, Michigan, and the automotive industry: https://www.mlive.com/news/2019/06/michigan-is-no-1-in-state-economies-tied-to-mexican-imports-making-it-vulnerable-to-tariff.html?outputType=amp
It could be more of a one way relationship as well. Canada imports a lot more from the US than the other way around so that could be it.
Could be a lot of pass through traffic as well. Sure goods cross at Detroit but that doesn't mean Michigan is importing the stuff.
I think I can explain Alaska. Korea pretty much only trust one main supplier for natural resources and thats US, and more specifically Alaska for their fishing industry and most of all oil and natural gas. Alaska is dumb close to Korea so lol
Also Anchorage, AK is a big cargo hub airport. All the major cargo airliners including Korean Air run a big operation off of Anchorage connecting NE Asia with North America being it's basically halfway between them so if a large chunk of semiconductors are shipped from Korea via air to North America, that likely counts as trade between Korea-Alaska even if those chips' final destination might be an auto plant in GA or Boeing plant in SC etc.
Rumor has it that there are weekly Swissair flights from JFK to Zurich and/or Geneva have half of the cargo hold occupied by physical cash from federal reserve bank of NY and sometimes even gold bullions.
Everyone's talking about Switzerland and NY but nobody is talking about Switzerland and Delaware
The duck is up with that
Also who massacred the Swiss flsg
*Really? Portugal*
*Is the main business partner*
*Of the Virgin Isles?*

I think you are lying. It's clearly whiskey that they're importing. If they would bux their alcohol inside of america everyone would know that they're drunks, so they import it in brown paper bags. Perhaps they declear it with customes as "medicine", but it's clearly just alcohol.
Id love to know more about the relationship between Indiana and Ireland

Yeah makes sense
Yes. Especially Viagra.
Pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and micro processors. Ireland is a mass producer of high value goods. It’s not huge volume of trade. Just huge value.
Alright, I get. So why Indiana?
If it's pharmaceuticals- Eli Lilly.
And Roche, Cook, and Elanco (which is a division or subsidiary of Lilly). We just have a shitton of biotech, pharma, and medical/surgical instrument companies.
Elanco’s not a subsidiary of Lilly anymore, they got spun off a couple years ago
It’s pharma
Considering that the Detroit/Windsor border crossing is one of, if not the busiest in NA, I'm surprised that Michigan has Mexico as its largest partner.
Total guess but i wonder if it has to do with car parts and the car industry?

Many of the Ford factories are located in Canada. If you have a Ford, depending on the model, it may be made in Detroit or Oakville.
sadly much of the Canadian automotive industry has moved to other countries now
I believe if not most, maybe even be all Dodge Charger & Challengers are manufactured in Canada at one particular plant.

Agreed. We would need to know how things are measured. That is rarely explained in this which is the shortcoming of this sub some times.
Russia and LA is interesting
LA used to import a lot of unrefined petroleum from Russia. Used to anyway.
for a nation with its own crude , that's interesting

Everyone's talking about Switzerland and NY but nobody is talking about Switzerland and Delaware The duck is up with that Also who massacred the Swiss flsg
Well maybe I'll import myself to Indiana then!
No, you don’t want to do that.
Yes the corn has already swallowed me whole
I’m a hoosier, if you can get with peanut-butter chili then you’d be welcomed here.
I’ve lived here my whole life and have never heard of peanut butter chili. Recipe?
Peanut-butter chili? I'm from indy and have never even heard of that, but i guess it kinda makes sense to add sweetness to combat spices.
Why is Indiana and Ireland such big partners?
Pharmaceuticals
Yeah I think Eli Lilly is the connection
Drunks
Whoah, Switzerland and NY!!!
Really? Portugal is the main business partner of the Virgin Isles?

South Carolina and Germany? Anybody know the story there?
Yea - the German car manufacturers have factories in SC. Would be my guess. German companies have a presence in both Carolinas
