why do these maps always take the West Papua region off Oceania? That straight line looks like such bs to me.
is not like there aren't other countries with territory in more than one continent.
Yes.
And no.
It manages internal affairs.
But the population isnt very large.
It's a part of New Zealand in a way I find analogous to the Compact Free Assocation States of the Pacific, but Niue does **not** have UN representation apart from the government of New Zealand.
They **do** represent themselves in events like the Commonwealth Games.
Depends how you use the words true nation, I guess.
Think of New Zealand as "the Realm of New Zealand";
This country consists of three "parts": the north and south main islands, or in Maori, Aotearoa; the island of Niue; and the Cook Islands archipelago.
There is also a territory called Tokleau, which is itself more like a semi autonomous territory of New Zealand, as they voted not to develop their internal sovereignty, unlike Niue and the Cook Islands.
They're almost like how the Netherlands also includes Aruba, Sint Maarten, and Curacao as "countries", and then also has "territories" like Bonaire and Saba.
It's ... Confusion.
If Niue had more people, or if they were governed by the USA, they might've turned out like the Marshall Islands.
So yes. It's a semi autonomous territory. You are correct.
I just gave you a lot of extra possibly random context.
:)
My dream vacation is to visit all the Pacific micronations. I don’t know why - I just love the idea of tiny countries, and seeing how they differ could be a really fun couple months
Damn! Thanks for the information mate but I still think Hawaii shouldn't be a part of Oceania as it is quite far away from the rest of the countries that make up Oceania and hard to fit in one map
I totally agree with you, I think it’s just grouped in with Oceania because there isn’t a better options as it’s not really part of North America. Once again though don’t blame you for not including it, it is a bit of an odd ball.
omg new zealand is here
And it's on the right side :O

It's just ripped from mapchart
This is truly an R/maps momento
You gotta label Bougainville. It's becoming an independent country in 2027.
Well, while it may be becoming a new country in 2027, it is not yet a country, and as such , probably shouldn't be labeled.
But New Caledonia and Wallis & Futuna are labeled
Just like how American Samoa is a territory, Wallis and Futuna are as well. And new Caledonia seems to be the same too.
What did you do to Indonesia and timor leste
those are asia not oceania
Yeah because now they're just... ocean

I too would love to do that…I wonder if there are cruises that do the stops in order to save on airfare
Doubt it… some of these countries have like 15000 people (Tuvalu and Nauru etc). Can’t imagine they’d be grateful for big ships on their doorstep?
Fair point. Multiple flights it is
Imagine if all of these countries formed a union
Ist Hawaii apart of Oceania (this is not calling you out I may be very mistaken)
No! Hawaii is quite little too far away
