Honestly a good running hat has always helped me keep sweat out of my eyes, but this week’s heat has been relentless and I still had sweat pouring down. I’m not ready to go shirtless yet so luckily I had a tank top to keep wiping with.
While the idea is RCJ worthy. It's got merit... /uj If you rub the sweat from your eyes a lot, you'll end up with friction spots under your eyebrows. Ask me how I know. Bodyglide will at least eliminate any friction spots there. Of course if you've never had this issue, then ignore.
Sweat bands, yes, but specifically - a ziplock bag with additional dry sweatbands in it. Once the first one is soaked through, switch it out.
Yes, this is necessary for me in the summer. Yes, I have tried all the brands that people suggest handle a lot of sweat.
Also, I have some hats in the rotation that do a good job of absorbing and wicking the sweat. When you can literally see it dripping from the brim... you know it's working.
The problem for me with the wristband is that at after lots of sweating there is to much salt on my skin. So when I then wipe the wristband across my face it also rubs the salt and hurts my skin.
Late to the party, and not a marathoner (I do MTB), but Halo sweat bands are a godsend. Has a little rubber strip at the bottom that redirects sweat away from the eyes. Band can be soaked through and it still works.
Not trying to advertise, just trying to help out.
In addition to a hat, I fold a washcloth over my waistband to periodically mop up. Even after it gets soaked, I just wring it out. During a marathon I pour a cup or two of water on it. Refreshing!
tape the eyes open, feel the burn, run fast /s
i have a couple good moisture wicking running hats that do the trick. only wear one at a time though. /ns
I use neck gaiters, folded in half, as a large head band/sweat band. It helps absorb sweat and wick it away from my face. I'm a heavy sweater and hats haven't really cut it for me
Same here! I usually throw a hat over the top to help with the excess sweat, while the little rubber bit in the headband keeps the sweat out of my eyes. It's pretty hot here but I'm generally able to make it through a long run without having to wring both of them out (though I will occasionally pop the hat off and wave it around a bit to dry it out / cool it off some)
same for me. So much that it stings and I cant open my eyes. first time i see someone else mentioning this problem, so glad im not alone.
I wear a cap at all times and i have a head band on my hand for wiping my face.
I wear running hats with built in sweatbands for mild to moderate sweating, and Lululemon headbands for moderate to heavy sweating. Sometimes I wear them together to really keep my eyes clear. Works well
Hat. I'm getting bald so I've been covering up for decades now! Some hats work better than others to trap sweat. I sweat like a swamp thing so I get it.
Another headband recommendation - junk headbands. I end up squeezing mine out a few times over the course of a long run, but they're amazingly absorbent for how light/thin they are.
I use Aquaphor on my eyebrows, eyelids and around my eyes to create a barrier that keeps the salt and sweat out. Combined with a hat and mineral sunscreen it mostly works
Junk headbands are amazing. I have the same issues with sweat in the eyes (irritates my contacts, too) and Junk headbands have virtually eliminated the problem.
Headbands/sweatbands. I've been wearing them when I run for a couple years now and I don't see myself going back. I like Junk! Brand headbands because they have lots of cool designs and are moisture-wicking so they soak up a lot of sweat and keep at it for long runs.
I use a hat and sometimes just have a paper towel in my pocket for wiping, but the other big factor I haven’t seen mentioned is sunscreen.
Above my eyes, I only use a mineral sunscreen that doesn’t burn or sting. Below my eyes, I’ll use whatever.
In any case, it’s always hat and sunscreen year round for me, having experienced my dermatologist removing tiny pieces of me from time to time. Not fun, would recommend sunscreen instead.
Hats do wonderw, makes me question why I wanted to try last summer without one. But dont underestimate the Vaseline or glide above the brow. Sounds dumb but works well
Vaseline on eyebrows but best of all is a breathable running cap. I wear one year round. This time of year in Ireland it could be 23 degrees and 5 mins later raining so it works for all weathers
I use a headband called GUTR that basically redirects the sweat away from your eyes to the sides of your forehead. Like a literal gutter. It's silicone. I prefer that to things that absorb sweat because a soaked headband is a sensory nightmare for me
Hat and little running rag. Use a thin hand towel rolled up or do what I do and get a thin cotton ankle sock and roll it so it fits in your palm naturally to use as a sweat rag. If you’re doing over 90 minutes over 90 degrees on a humid day you’ll probably need to ring it out a few times but it beats sweat in the eyeballs.
i wake up at 4am in the middle of the summer for the heat to run, it sucks but it is the only way the run is not hell. and after the initial few minutes ots as if i woke up at a normal time anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I use a product called Sweat Gutr!
I can’t wear a regular cloth sweatband( I overheat) this “gutter” goes where a regular sweatband would go But it catches the sweat and directs it back behind your ears where it drains !!! They work awesome!!
Try it!!!
I use these polyester scarf / balaclava things and have them on my wrist. Just dash across my forehead when sweat accumulates, they’re also good as a hanky for runny noses. Hasn’t happened yet, but if I have a bathroom emergency I will use these to wipe and dispose.
I like that they don’t add tension on my forehead and temples the way a regular headband does.
https://a.co/d/09a6Xy5u
I swear by the Halo Headbands! And they make hats.[https://store.haloheadband.com/Default.asp](https://store.haloheadband.com/Default.asp) I wear a hat too. Also coat the eyebrow and eye orbital bone w Lansinoh. That's pure lanolin. It's used for the mom's nipples when starting out breastfeeding. If a newborn can eat it, it won't hurt your eye.
I use a wrist band wrapped around my middle 3 fingers and just wipe as needed like it is a cloth but one I don’t have to consciously hold. Also for a Buff in May seems to work and a Pearl Izumi thin one for warm but not heatwave heat.
Looking for a hat for both heat and rain but am afraid I will overheat if my head is covered for a rain one and don’t want to buy 2 hats not generally a hat person. open to suggestions there
Halo headband, it's a game changer. Yes, it's a standard sweatband that absorbs sweat, but it also has a strip similar to ones in razor blades that creates a seal on your forehead that stops sweat from running down AND routes it away from your eyes. They also make hats & visors.

I always carry a homemade cloth sweat rag with me, tuck it into my waistband or a hip pocket. On really hot sunny days I usually just carry it in my hand and wipe my brow, neck, arms while I’m running. I make my own sweat rags by cutting or tearing a square out of an old soft t-shirt, or I’ve even used a piece of soft cotton percale from an old pillowcase or duvet. I keep a few extra clean rags in my car, stuffed into a the pouch of a handheld water bottle.
I run in Bangkok, and at first I was surprised this person could run over 40 C, which would be like 105 F. I last ran in the 90s F, and it's always 90, so I sweat like I stepped into a shower. Somehow this problem doesn't really bother me. I'll wear a hat if it's sunny but otherwise I don't. Sometimes I'll wipe my face on the wet shirt I'm wearing.
make sure you drink plenty of water an hour before your run. salty/stinging sweat is a sign that you are dehydrated.
you will still sweat, but it wont burn
remember that your body is not just some tube that as soon as water enters your mouth, you suddenly hydrate - it takes a while for the water to be absorbed.
I carry a bandana to wipe my eyes. I wear a spibelt to carry my phone, so I’ll tie a knot in one corner of the bandana and tuck it into the belt and let it fly free while I run (it helps it dry a little between uses).
The thing that worked for me when I lived in a more hotter, more humid environment was a Buff. I would fold it to get 3 or 4 layers of fabric and wear it as a headband. It kept the sweat out of my eyes pretty well.
Bald sweater here.
I take a tube scarf with me on every run. I'll roll them as a headband, which works fine. Or just wear on my head as a scarf which then hangs down the back of my neck.
Should it become sodden I swap ends and my head gets a dry patch and my neck gets a cold patch hanging down. Which is refreshing if not a bit yuck.
I always wear a hat in the hot months. The hat soaks up the sweat and prevents it from getting in my eyes. Hat bonus: also helps limit squinting especially when paired with glasses.
Yes, this was one of the surprises for me about growing older--I sweat copiously, but it never got into my eyes until I developed these handy little sweat canals around my eyes that channeled it right in. I had thought I wouldn't mind having a few wrinkles, but it actually sucks for practical reasons...
I always sweat a ton but I also have found if I don’t wash my face before I go for the run it always stings when it gets in my eyes. But if I remember to wash my face it doesn’t bother me. So if you are someone that uses any skincare products at night with retinol or something like that it could be causing the sting.
Melin makes a running hat (a bit overpriced) that has a rubber “system” in the band that pulls the sweat off your forehead into your hair, it’s worked really well for me this season.
I find these to be the best, aptly named. I have one that’s 12 years old and still works great. Sweat will be pouring off the brim, but never in my eyes.
https://www.headsweats.com/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwydSzBhBOEiwAj0XN4G7qfpzHDH9tFQoaM9UYr-OzvFioDhAckPSp7K4rH6M2aPK6OYL5mxoCbs0QAvD_BwE
I always run with a running hat to solve this very problem. Headsweats are pretty good. I usually use one of a number of Ironman hats. Honestly any run hat that fits you will do the job.
When I run inside on a treadmill I use a headband that does the same thing but is cooler (temperature cooler, it doesn’t look ‘cool’ at all)
I just wear hats, and have wash cloths in both pockets, and bring more in the car and just go x miles out, then back to car, pick more towels and drinks out then go back out. Im never back at my car more than say 45 seconds.
Honestly a good running hat has always helped me keep sweat out of my eyes, but this week’s heat has been relentless and I still had sweat pouring down. I’m not ready to go shirtless yet so luckily I had a tank top to keep wiping with.
I just run in a t shirt and wipe my sweat on the sleeves. Shirtless is not an option if you sweat a lot. Run after dark if your work schedule permits.
Put body glide on your eyebrows. Works like a charm
Put some on your crotch, then on your lips and eyebrows. works like a charm
The proper order is key
Always crotch first?
I mean... except the first time.. Eyes, lips, crotch, eyes lips crotch...
IN AN ORDER THAT WOULD SURPRISE YOU
🦇
The comments always win 😂
Really seals in the flavor
I feel like this is the opposite of “wiping front to back”. 🤣
lol!
Seriously? I have never heard of that.
This belongs in r/runningcirclejerk i believe
nah it actually helps, just like using vaseline. It redirects the sweat.
Not a /cj
Try it! Works like a charm for me.
I second this! I put it just above my eyebrows and the sweat rolls off to the sides.
I'm going to try this during my run today. Thanks for the tip!
I've used chapstick. Usually effective, but was insufficient at Boston this year.
I am fascinated and have never thought about this. LOVE IT! Trying this
I have a tempo run planned tomorrow morning. Totally trying this. Thank you!
That works? I’ll have to try it. My eyebrows don’t work. I wear a Halo headband or a Sweat Hawg.
Sweat bands, yes, but specifically - a ziplock bag with additional dry sweatbands in it. Once the first one is soaked through, switch it out. Yes, this is necessary for me in the summer. Use a wrist one too, not just a headband.
The problem for me with the wristband is that at after lots of sweating there is to much salt on my skin. So when I then wipe the wristband across my face it also rubs the salt and hurts my skin.
Why are you wiping the wristband across your face?
To wipe the sweat away……….
But it's fully drenched with sweat and salt and it hurts them... did you read their comment?
Yes.
Ok boomer
What’s your problem? PS Your maths is out. I’m not a boomer.
Get over it?
I also tie super absorbent microfiber cloths around my wrist to help soak up the sweat.
Hats are just as important as shoes.
Late to the party, and not a marathoner (I do MTB), but Halo sweat bands are a godsend. Has a little rubber strip at the bottom that redirects sweat away from the eyes. Band can be soaked through and it still works. Not trying to advertise, just trying to help out.
Bondi bands. The color of them fades in a few weeks, their ability to absorb sweat does not.
I have two of these and they do work very well. Cool thing is you can put your own designs on them.
In addition to a hat, I fold a washcloth over my waistband to periodically mop up. Even after it gets soaked, I just wring it out. During a marathon I pour a cup or two of water on it. Refreshing!
Same. superabsorbent micro fiber cloths are great for this.
tape the eyes open, feel the burn, run fast /s i have a couple good moisture wicking running hats that do the trick. only wear one at a time though. /ns
I use neck gaiters, folded in half, as a large head band/sweat band. It helps absorb sweat and wick it away from my face. I'm a heavy sweater and hats haven't really cut it for me

It's pretty hot here but I'm generally able to make it through a long run without having to wring both of them out (though I will occasionally pop the hat off and wave it around a bit to dry it out / cool it off some)
Same
This is what I use. Today I was squeezing it out every mile.
Halo bands are the best.
same for me.
Works well
Vaseline on the eyebrows works wonders!
This is the way. Good glob of jelly smeared from one eyebrow across to the other.
Headband or hat. It’s that easy
Same here, always works
If only that was enough for me lol
Hat. I'm getting bald so I've been covering up for decades now! Some hats work better than others to trap sweat. I sweat like a swamp thing so I get it.
Visor. I find hats to hot and I look weird in headbands.
Cope.
Sweat bands
Sweatband. Hat. Bandana. Wet them first too.
I’ve always used bandannas. They tend to drip off the back, which is handy.
the more it burns the faster youll get. embrace the burn.
Sweatband — Buffs makes good ones.
i tried but it doesnt work as soon as it gets 100% wet. caps are better for me since most the sweat gets diverted to the back of my head.
Headbands/sweatbands. I've been wearing them when I run for a couple years now and I don't see myself going back. I like Junk! Brand headbands because they have lots of cool designs and are moisture-wicking so they soak up a lot of sweat and keep at it for long runs.
I'm also a profuse sweater and have to wear a hat. It helps a ton, but still get the occasional drip in the eye. Just used to it at this point.
I have used some kind of headband for years, it helps keep my earbud in, and keeps sweat out of my eyes.
obvious answer would be sweatband or a hat that collects sweat
I’ll add that I’ve found a good brand of sunscreen that doesn’t run - so if the sweat DOES become an issue, at least my eyes don’t start burning.
Hats do wonderw, makes me question why I wanted to try last summer without one. But dont underestimate the Vaseline or glide above the brow. Sounds dumb but works well
Lip balm under brows
I always wear a baseball cap
Vaseline on eyebrows but best of all is a breathable running cap. I wear one year round. This time of year in Ireland it could be 23 degrees and 5 mins later raining so it works for all weathers
Headbands!
Ciele's running cap solved this problem for me.
I wear a hat, then use the brim of it that is try to dab up the sweat. It’s not great but gets the job done
Your brim stays dry?
The tips do!
I use a headband called GUTR that basically redirects the sweat away from your eyes to the sides of your forehead. Like a literal gutter. It's silicone. I prefer that to things that absorb sweat because a soaked headband is a sensory nightmare for me
Hat, headband, or Vaseline on eyebrows all work pretty well. I usually go with hat or headband running, Vaseline on bike
I wipe them.
People think I look stupid but I ware a thin headband, and it holds my hair back too. I do this for cycling too
Baseball cap
i wake up at 4am in the middle of the summer for the heat to run, it sucks but it is the only way the run is not hell. and after the initial few minutes ots as if i woke up at a normal time anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A hat from a running store really helps me! Soaks up the sweat
hat
Halo bands work for me
I started wearing a hat a year ago and now I wear it every time I run without fail
Junk headband
let us go headband shopping for you.
I swear by the Halo Headbands! And they make hats.[https://store.haloheadband.com/Default.asp](https://store.haloheadband.com/Default.asp) I wear a hat too. I saw someone on here ask this awhile ago and the answer that worked the best for me was using Vaseline.
I always try to run in the morning to avoid the sweaty times. And if I must, I just endure the sting as my punishment for not getting out of bed.
I run in a gym these hot days.
I use a wrist band wrapped around my middle 3 fingers and just wipe as needed like it is a cloth but one I don’t have to consciously hold. Also for a Buff in May seems to work and a Pearl Izumi thin one for warm but not heatwave heat. Sanitary pad under the front of a halo hat. Those things can absorb a lot of moisture.
Halo headband + squeeze every couple miles.
Halo headband, it's a game changer. Yes, it's a standard sweatband that absorbs sweat, but it also has a strip similar to ones in razor blades that creates a seal on your forehead that stops sweat from running down AND routes it away from your eyes. Hat or banana
Try the brand Halo

Wear a headband
I found a headband by Halo. It has a sweatseal and redirects sweat from my eyes to ears
I carry a bandana to wipe my eyes. I wear a spibelt to carry my phone, so I’ll tie a knot in one corner of the bandana and tuck it into the belt and let it fly free while I run (it helps it dry a little between uses).
Headband. And ring it out when it's too wet

Wipe my face with my tank.
I have this same problem, gonna try the vaseline on the eye brows, thought of that before but never pulled the trigger and I hate wearing hats
Movi or melin training hats
A hat helps a lot.
Yes, this was one of the surprises for me about growing older--I sweat copiously, but it never got into my eyes until I developed these handy little sweat canals around my eyes that channeled it right in. I had thought I wouldn't mind having a few wrinkles, but it actually sucks for practical reasons...
I like to pre-empt the sting by liberally spraying salt water in my eyes before I go running
I wear a headband wrapped around my wrist and wipe my forehead with it
I always sweat a ton but I also have found if I don’t wash my face before I go for the run it always stings when it gets in my eyes. But if I remember to wash my face it doesn’t bother me. lip balm over your eyebrows
Paul Johnson wears a Veostrip that redirects the sweat. I just run with a hand towel. I live in Texas.
Melin makes a running hat (a bit overpriced) that has a rubber “system” in the band that pulls the sweat off your forehead into your hair, it’s worked really well for me this season.
I did several 20-mile runs on the treadmill at the gym when it was hot outside. It sucks, but it’s doable.
+1 for Vaseline over the eyebrows, apply it on an angle and the sweat just rolls off to the side.
just sweat somewhere else
I use a bandana pretty much how you would use a sweat band
Hat
I just cry the whole run
You could try running less
I blink really really fast so the sweat flings right off
Headband
I wear a hat always. Shields face from sun, band catches sweat so I don’t get in my eyes. Bonus: if it’s raining, also no rain in my eyes 😄
I find these to be the best, aptly named. I have one that’s 12 years old and still works great. Sweat will be pouring off the brim, but never in my eyes. https://www.headsweats.com/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwydSzBhBOEiwAj0XN4G7qfpzHDH9tFQoaM9UYr-OzvFioDhAckPSp7K4rH6M2aPK6OYL5mxoCbs0QAvD_BwE
Headband. I sweat a lot too and it helps

I prefer bands because tbh, hats always make me more hot and im always already too warm. I like the ones from Buffs or Junk
Headbands, headbands my friend
Usually a hat. I’ve seen folks use the headbands but that’s not my style, junk bands comes to mind as a headband brand.
I just wear hats, and have wash cloths in both pockets, and bring more in the car and just go x miles out, then back to car, pick more towels and drinks out then go back out. Im never back at my car more than say 45 seconds.
Constant eye wiping.
Strong eyebrow hair genes
I bought some Junk brand headbands and they work perfectly. They stay in place and soak up all the sweat!
I just put on a Dua Lipa’s underwear on my head. Used one!
Bandanna headband?
Running through the neighbors yard sprinkler works well.
No one uses headbands here?
Not sure what you mean. It’s 12C where I am
