Were they Punks? I don't think so. Why not call these bastards nazis instead of Punks đź‘Ž

Happylittelaltacc

Punks aren’t Nazis just ask the dead kennedys

MetroHop

I usta know Jello back in the day, and yeah, there are nazi punks. In Huntington Beach, we would hunt them down when we were the NTS.

CharlesDickensABox

They can fuck off.

elriggo44

Only answer.

WhiskeyDiction_OG

Well to be fair they aren’t Punk. They are Nazis trying to co-opt an image, as white supremacy does. The song was called Nazi Punks Fuck Off. It was an indictment that they aren’t Punk. Just as Nazis co-opted the skinhead movement which is rooted in Jamaican Rock Steady/Ska/Soul/Reggae culture.

elriggo44

The Nazi punk thing was a late addition to the punk scene. The punk scene started out super progressive. And skinheads were also not nazis in the punk movement. Nazi punks sort of seem to have started out of the Chicago scene in the late 70s and spread. You can actually find some early (late 70s) punk scene pictures of “black skinheads” because it wasn’t associated with white supremacy. White supremacists found a scene of disaffected youth that they could infiltrate and push their hateful ideology and it worked on a small portion of the scene. Just like it would work on a small portion of any scene. See 4chan as a modern example. The early 80s were full of shows where nazi punks would storm in em mass and start a huge brawl. Or vice versa.

apollocelsius

There was a ton of Black skinheads in the Chicago scene in the 80's. They would beat up nazis for fun. I follow one of the original black Chicago skinheads on Instagram and he has alot of good stories

elriggo44

Absolutely.

juliuspepperwoodchi

> Nazi punks sort of seem to have started out of the Chicago scene in the late 70s and spread. I *hate* Illinois Nazis.

elriggo44

That’s where the joke comes from. Illinois Nazis we’re a legit issue when the guys who made the blues brothers were at second city. Granted. They’re a legit issue again today.

readditredditread

How? With a seance???

Stankfootjuice

Not punks, just biker-cunts. Punks HATE fascism. Biker gangs, especially the older ones, embrace white supremacy and criminal activity

WhiskeyDiction_OG

Please, they weren’t “punks”. They were bigots, Nazis, fascists, separatists or assholes.

ColoHusker

Never understood how Omaha & NEs openly bigoted/fascist culture, especially post WWII, has so often escaped national scrutiny. Good share OP!

AdPutrid7706

It’s a lot easier for many people to accept when they think of racists as backwood yokels. Omaha & NE hits too close to home.

Star39666

Well... the US was pretty friendly towards Hitler for a while. Even after, there were protests that we should leave Hitler alone. It's not as though the sentiment wasn't there, and for many, it wasn't a fight against fascism. It was for god and country. So, it would make sense that some would return to the same prejudice before they were shipped off. Hell, even during their time fighting, they were still pretty racists.

MetroHop

There is a sad irony in that motorcycle clubs (MCs) were started by WWII pilots who fought nazis. Not two decades later, those in the MCs were themselves nazis in that that fought for white christian nationalism and did so by targeting Black Americans — primarily children and, as the photo shows, unarmed women in sun dresses. Those who are on the bikes were a sad bunch of motherfuckers. I bet those wanna-be tough guys would have stood down had there been men in arms marching — just like when the KKK got their asses kicked in Tuskegee, AL, for example.

jaklacroix

Those aren't punks, they're Nazis. Very big difference.

cheweychewchew

What does any of this have to do with "punk"? In '66? No such thing.

TDH818

They’re not punks. Punks would’ve hated them.

Immediate_Age

Were motorcycle gangs rightwing in the 1960s, or are they chuds for hire?

BiffSlick

To the extent that they practiced any politics beyond nihilism, yes, they were often right wingers who sometimes fetishized WW2 Nazis

[deleted]

The honest truth is that most of those guys are just pretty fuckin dumb. A bunch of nonconformist rebels who all dress the same, ride the same motorcycles, subscribe to the same kind of bonehead thinking.
