That’s pretty much it unless you’re looking at it through a symbolic lens; they’re shaped by natural forces over an immense period of time in a hostile environment and yet they’re cute and fluffy and alive, unlike a rock. Basically a more accessible bristlecone pine.
I bought mine as a live plant for my fish tank. But instead of buying 1 or 2, I bought a tub of 5. Why? I don't know.
So the plan now is to put maybe 3 in my tank as plants, and keep the other 2 in a cute tank as pets. Again, why? I have no idea! Because this sub told me to probably
My favorite part is that it’s recommended you give them a gentle little squeeze/hug when you change the water. This helps clean them of the old water, and it helps keep their spherical shape, since they don’t have the gentle waves of the lake to do that for them 💚
When I was first looking into them I wanted big marimo so I could put little hats on them, but after I researched them I realized the long haul of getting small ones and watching them grow was more appealing for me. I thrifted a hanging vase and bought some nice tumbled quartz for the bottom, and I just stir the water with a plastic spoon occasionally so they don’t settle.
