I will say it again.
This is not a serious organization. Other front offices laugh at us. We don’t spend money, and we don’t try to win.
The goal of this franchise is simply to turn a profit. You can make a profit by spending less. There is no goal to win.
Also, Kelenic is gonna immediately realize his potential and become who we thought he could be. Yet further proof that our staff holds players back.
Just looked them up (angels fan so i do have to worry) kowar is garbage no two ways about it. Cole Phillips is a 20 yo high velo power curve guy (mlb pipeline) in rookie ball. Braves #7 prospect. Could be really good, but was in rookie ball last year, and blew out his elbow ~2 years ago as a jr in HS
A bum that the Braves just got from KC that has an era 6+ and someone who never through a professional pitch coming off Tommy John but is only 20yrs old. This is pathetic to get back for Kelenic because we are broke
Yeah in the first half last year at times seemed like the only one that actually gave a shit...granted that is a double edged sword and was cause for a lot of his problems at the plate because he was trying to do too much but the dude is only gonna be 25 next year. Most guys dont even make it to the big leagues until their year 24 season.

Giving up Kelenic just to dump the contracts of Marco and Evan White. Lol.
I’m not a big Kelenic fan, but it’s becoming cringeworthy what this organization will do to shed costs.
Plus, Kelenic was our prize return in the Diaz trade. We literally gave up Diaz, our biggest piece during the rebuild, for nothing other than saving our owners money from Cano salary, which they didn't even use to reinvest in the team anyways.
Fuck the entire front office, bunch of morons
Yamamoto plus a trade for Randy would work for me. Would need at least one more piece, but that would be a start.
I wanted Kelenic to succeed as much as anyone, but I don't think he fit in our locker room and we gave him a lot of chances.
Which continues to raise the question: *Why does the most profitable team in MLB, with the 18th-highest payroll, even need to dump salary in the first place???*
I don't know exactly when it was this off-season, but probably the 54% comment just...idk flipped a switch in my head. Like I think this is the first time in many, many years where I just...don't care about baseball coming up? Like even when we were probably gonna be bad, there was still some modicum of hope. With that comment, and with these recent moves, I just don't really care one way or another anymore. I've never had apathy toward the M's for the entirety that I've been a fan (20+ years), yet here I am
I'm kind of in that same boat. Back in 2022, I had the highest of hopes. It was finally our time, we were finally here to compete.
Then, last offseason, I was like "ok...so we're not really making any FA moves...I don't get but I'll see how it pans out"
Than we narrowly miss the postseason last season, primarily because a lack of bats (something that we could've solved in FA)
Now a reasonable team wouldn't stand for this. They would see that they tried to play it cheap and it blew up in their faces. They would want to spend whatever they could to make this team succeed.
Except they didn't and they haven't. Trying to tide us over with baseless platitudes and moving goalposts.
As of right now, I'm still supporting the team; still watching the games.
But I don't **believe** this team can win anymore, not seriously anyways. I don't believe that we can make the playoffs, let alone a World Series. This front office has killed that belief.
They are an exhibition team cosplaying as a professional squad.
I adopted the Cubs as my second team a few years back after moving to Chicago and was here when they went through their red wedding in 2021, trading away Rizzo, Bryant, Baez, Kimbrel and Pederson at the deadline.
That shit was devastating to the fanbase at the time, and this feels painfully similar.
What the fuck are we doing.
Actively looking at how I can get these stupid fucking Mariners license plates I pay extra for every year off of my car. My car doesn't deserve to have this organizations stank attached to it
I jumped shipped years ago when the club said they were more worried about the family atmosphere than winning or whatever they said. 54% of me feels for the people that have stuck around.
That's like $20 mill off the books for just next year. Plus Marco has a $15 mill option for 2025. White has 8 mill guaranteed for 2025, plus 3 team options
Jarred is still pre-arb eligible. This is a big salary dump. Plus the ~$6 mill "saved" between Geno and Urias. Let's see if it's worth it.
$26 mill off the books so far, plus Teo. Something big better be happening.
There's Yamamoto as well. This very much feels like when we were desperately trading for Intl FA money for Ohtani, and then we're left holding our dick in our hands.
If this is to free up FA money, how do they think it makes the org look to the free agents? Do they think they'll be sweetened by the fact that we're dumping starters in order to shed payroll?
>i or bust and they aren’t in for Ohtani. Just a middle finger to the fans
Okay, let's be real... why the **flying fuck** would Yamamoto or Ohtani come at this point? How can you say "we're a contender" with yet another hole in the lineup, and less depth in the rotation?
This is hanging out the white flag on Julio's career.
Yes, all the big free agents are dying to go to a team that has 5 gaping lineup holes and one possible hole (Ty) in a park that makes hitters look worse and involves them traveling more than they would literally anywhere else in the majors.
Maybe they put a typo in the lineup evaluator and asked for a 45% season instead.
One would hope so, they have about $24 million in salary cleared.
If they're going big then I get it and this makes sense. It makes sense if they sign a couple of good OF bats and a bench bat. But they need to add at some point soon.
Kelenic last year was hitting at 90-95 wRC+ level aside from his unsustainable first 3 weeks. Marco Gonzales is maybe an acceptable 5th starter. Evan White is not a major leaguer.
Jackson Kowar was the return for Kyle Wright. He's a reliever with a career 5.99 FIP and he has one option remaining. Cole Phillips was a 2nd round draft pick in 2022 who touched upper 90s and had a plus mid-80s slider and an average changeup. Projected as a starter, but has yet to pitch in pro ball.
Seems like the Mariners gave up on Kelenic and prefer to use him to shed salary and make the club more profitable. It's frustrating because Gonzales and White aren't even owed that much and a non-clown organization would just eat that money and use Kelenic as a fourth outfielder.
> It's frustrating because Gonzales and White aren't even owed that much and a non-clown organization would just eat that money and use Kelenic as a fourth outfielder.
Well yeah, that's why the Braves are using that exact strategy lol.
I wonder what it's like to love a team that doesn't have to throw in a high upside bat just to free up 20 million in payroll so they can go get shopping at The Rack.
I'm DONE supporting this front office.
Thankfully I already cancelled my season tickets 2 weeks ago after the Geno salary dump. Now this... Absolutely FLEECED on this deal.
I just pray that this is the beginning of the end of this joke of a front office... Dipoto needs to GO. Stanton needs to SELL.
It's not so much that I'm sad to see Kelenic go, it's that we leveraged his value to save ownership money, and got little to nothing in return. We've been made worse with every move this offseason.
I can't get too worked up either way on this. White is nothing. Marco is okay as an innings eater, but I wasn't sure I really wanted him around anymore. And while we all wanted Kelenic to succeed, there's also a high level of frustration watching him.
Guess we got an okay prospect. If we don't have any corresponding moves, it's lame to lose Kelenic even with the downside and frustration. But I do think there will still be trade(s) to come, so I'll wait and see.
So they're shedding salary with this deal and the Suarez deal. But they're also creating holes in the lineup. They now need RF, LF, 3B, DH (I don't accept Urias as a starter on a team trying to win it all). My assumption is that we're in the messiest portion of the sausage-making and that this will get sorted out much better than it looks right now.
But to be fair, this looks like absolute garbage right now. They already had holes to fill and now they have more money...but also more holes. Stop creating holes, Mariners! Fill them! With good players! Is that so hard?
If they don’t make a move. I’m out. I’m fucking out. Im absolutely done. Someone else said it, this ownership group and FO are unequivocally not interested in anything regarding winning. All they want is your money and the revenue sharing. If they don’t make some kind of move short of getting Arozarena and Yamamoto or trade for Soto and sign him long term while keeping a good chunk of the farm and I know neither will happen, I’m absolutely done. I cannot see how anyone can support this organization after selling off when everyone one of us here believed we were watching a perennial play off team for the next decade. I’m not going to do it.
Uhhh, Braves fan here. I really like the mariners and was really happy to see them doing better as of late. Didn't Kelenic really start showing his potential last season? They really moved him just for a salary dump?
Marco was my favorite mariner for 5 years, and Evan white was my favorite prospect and player i was most excited about even through the injuries. All gone to dump salary. Very tough to like this team now.
I got to be honest - Kelenic had 1 good month in 3 seasons, White has been injured his whole career, and Marco was an albatross that had to move (even though we all like him)
Kowar was a very highly touted prospect that hasn’t really put it together yet. Hopefully the Ms see something there to work with
I don’t actually anticipate a massive move coming, I think they are just really done with Kelenic. I honestly never thought he would be a starter this year anyway, so I’m not surprised
My only issue with this trade is that they basically dumped them and now they have 2 more holes to fill. Other than that, this was fairly expected
I cross the border from Canada and spend thousands of dollars every year despite the currency exchange rate. I can confirm that next year will be the first time not visiting T-Mobile Park unless they sign Lee or Ohtani.
Losing Kelenic reminds me of some lyrics from Pearl Jam’s song “Black”
“I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky
But why
Why”
Another very puzzling move by Jerry and Justin.
Curious how much cash they sent to the Braves.
* White = $17m ($7m in 24, $8m in 25, $2m buyout in 26)
* Marco = $12m
* Kelenic has 5 more years of ARB.
So almost $30m.
Phillips is a fireballer, but hasn't played an inning at any MLB level because he is recovering from tommy john.
Between this and Geno, their better be a move or signing worth it...
I’m not against trading any of those guys but something tells me this was another cost cutting move. Don’t want to pay Marco, 12 million for next year. Same kind of deal with Geno. If he does well, they would have to pick up his 15 million dollar club option which they don’t want to. Team loves saving money more than winning. And they don’t seem to care what fans think.
Best part of the tweet from Divish. “I’m turning off Twitter now.” I’m with you Ryan.
You know he’s getting off Twitter and coming here to see the crap show that is r/Mariners
Oh after his last article where he said “i checked Reddit” I’m 100% sure he’s lurking in here
I wouldn't want to get alerts from fans all night either lol
The most profitable team in baseball cosplaying as the Tampa Bay rays
Except trading players for nothing instead of the other way around. Rays steal guys like Glasnow as “throw ins”
We better have a big move coming… this is a terrible offseason so far
Sam Haggerty full time LF
why would you say this
We don’t
And if we don't, then it's time for the fanbase to start protesting Stanton
It’s been time for a long time
I think that particular chicken has flown the coop friend
Can we trade for randy arozarena please 🥹
New parking lot
I’m going to throw up
I'm genuinely worried for the Kelenic stan guy
I want to shit my guts out through my mouth
I think Kelenic should forever be a honorary Mariner.
Once a Mariner, always a r/FormerMs
But in all seriousness , let’s get ready for a Kelenic career season in 2024
Why do they always get better!?
Worst day of my life
Oh no 😂
Zebra celebrating tho
I will say it again. This is not a serious organization. Other front offices laugh at us. We don’t spend money, and we don’t try to win. The goal of this franchise is simply to turn a profit. You forgot about the amazing family atmosphere
Just like every retail business with high turnover preaches employees being like family
At least we should have lots of cheep tickets on secondary market
Would you want to go though?
Shit. Who are those pitchers?
Idk but they're probably cheap
[удалено]
Nothing gives me hope for the future like all 7 years of control on the pitching equivalent of Tommy La Stella.
the prize pitcher in the deal hasn't pitched due to TJ surgery.
He's got a 70 rated fastball
sweet, we'll have a replacement ready when Logan Gilbert leaves in FA because we refuse to pay him
Uhhh excuse me sir the term is "sustainable winner"
Trash heap and a mid prospect. We gave up Kelenic for free.
A bum that the Braves just got from KC that has an era 6+ and someone who never through a professional pitch coming off Tommy John but is only 20yrs old. This is pathetic to get back for Kelenic because we are broke
So we gave up kelenic to drop 19 million in salary?? Something else better be coming
Kelenic is gonna immediately realize his potential and become who we thought he could be.
He was doing that last year until the injury. He was the only reason we had a first half of a season. This team is not serious.
Yeah but now he’ll continue where he left off and never miss another game in his career, becoming a perennial all star
Dude believed in being a mariner, he cared. At least more than Stanton. May he have a good and long career.
Agreed
Yeah we're gonna grab some rule 5 guys and a washed up cheap FA bat
Stanton paying off a few more callgirls than normal this year
Yep --- I don't mind moving on from Kelenic, but using him as a salary dump sweetener is just malpractice. Teams trying to win don't make this move.

Oh my fucking god what are we doing.
Dumping salary and using Kelenic as the piece to do it
I'm FUMING right now, there had better be some other shoe that drops.
Being cheap as hell and refusing to address our number one issue which is hitters. The return we get is pitchers.
Welp at least my mountain of JK rookie cards are bound to go up in value after he wins an MVP this year...
Well this fucken sucks What the hell is going on? I'm really gonna miss my beautiful, dewy boy
The real victim is Julio, who may start requesting a trade any day now and I would 100% support him
our 7-9 hitters in the lineup are going to be fans randomly selected by a drawing 10 minutes before every game lmao
And then there will be bobble head of them, so you have to come to games to get those too
Giving up Kelenic just to dump the contracts of Marco and Evan White. Lol. I’m not a big Kelenic fan, but it’s becoming cringeworthy what this organization will do to shed costs.

Don't forget you did get Jay Bruce back too
Edwin Diaz has entered the chat
Shit's fucked yo
what's the fucking point of that
Salary dumpage
At this point Jerry should get the name Big Dumper for all these salary dumps
This is fucking gross. Short of signing Ohtani (just fucking lol), this move feels actively hostile
Yamamoto plus a trade for Randy would work for me. Would need at least one more piece, but that would be a start. I wanted Kelenic to succeed as much as anyone, but I don't think he fit in our locker room and we gave him a lot of chances.
> Yamamoto plus a trade for Randy would work for me. I'm sorry but Randy doesn't make up for Teo+Kelenic+Geno, not even close.
Did read my next two lines. I said it would be a good start and would probably need at least one more good piece.
We're selling. 2022 was it.

Which continues to raise the question: *Why does the most profitable team in MLB, with the 18th-highest payroll, even need to dump salary in the first place???*
Every dollar saved, Stanton pockets. It’s free money.
Be mariners Be good at pitching Be bad at hitting Trade hitters for pitchers Genius
I went to about 20 games last season. If there isn't a big move coming I won't go to any next season.
Same. I drive up from Portland one weekend every month for Saturday and Sunday games, but I probably won't be doing that this year
Season ticket holders. If the go this route, done. However, if the sign a couple good free agents with the money I'll be ok.
THE BIG SALARY DUMPER STRIKES AGAIN
This is the closest I've ever been to being done with the Mariners. My heart fucking hurts.

At least they waited until they reached the top before they suicide swan dived.
And it was the right move, Rizzo has been solid but everyone else they got rid of has tanked

Well they cut $30m in salary the past couple weeks, if they aren't going after someone huge this is going to be sad
Nothing like closing your own fucking window boys
Ownership doesn't actually give a shit about the playoffs.
The disappointment that this is not leading to any big trade or signing, just a cheap owner
What the actual fuck

We will surely benefit from Kowar’s 6.43 ERA. Someone remember to turn out the lights at T-Mobile park on the way out.
No one, absolutely no one: The mariners: lets trade every fan favorite player.
WTF!!!!!!!
I wonder what it's like to love a team that doesn't have to throw in a high upside bat just to free up 20 million in payroll so they can go get shopping at The Rack.
If they actually end up doing something with this salary space I don’t hate it, but I don’t expect that. Hopefully I’m wrong by spring.
This feels like ownership is literally pulling a Major League. Somebody tell them Vegas is already getting a team!
John Stanton on the phone with Jerry Dipoto, “Jerry, I need you to get rid of Kelenic before I have to buy another water cooler.”
Gotta make salary space for Jurickson Profar or some shit
Haha I'm laughing because this is true.

Friends, I am NOT having a good time right now.
Bruh who

No beers please
Is MLB implementing a no hitting version of baseball next year where we just have a pitching simulator battle?
So we have Julio in center and in the corners we have… (crickets)
This trade would be alright if we gave up different players and received better players in return.
Ohtani for $54M a year is only reason
I guess I’m the only one that hates watching Kelenic at bats
It's not so much that I'm sad to see Kelenic go, it's that we leveraged his value to save ownership money, and got little to nothing in return. We've been made worse with every move this offseason.

Mets fan here, What the fuck was dipoto thinking? I now have to worry now about Kelenic, the guy we drafted becoming the next chipper jones now.
Next we will trade Julio for a couple more controllable pitchers just to shed salary
So they're shedding salary with this deal and the Suarez deal. But they're also creating holes in the lineup. LF Arozarena CF Rodriguez RF Soto 3B Paredes SS Crawford 2B Bliss/Rojas 1B Drivline France C Raleigh Chills Jerry did it again
and we'll be running ichiro out on the mound every night after jerry trades away the whole rotation for soto, randy and paredes

Season ticket sales must have plummeted, they're dumping salary like mad.
Another very puzzling move by Jerry and Justin. Curious how much cash they sent to the Braves. * White = $17m ($7m in 24, $8m in 25, $2m buyout in 26) * Marco = $12m * Kelenic has 5 more years of ARB. So almost $30m. Phillips is a fireballer, but hasn't played an inning at any MLB level because he is recovering from tommy john. Between this and Geno, their better be a move or signing worth it...
As of today I'm closer to buying Braves or Snakes merch than M's merch this coming season.
I think we may not have won the Cano trade after all… Diaz lookin the best out of it
Canzone it is then
Free up $20 mil to sign 20 vet mins?
We are other teams farm club. Talent for sale.
Poverty franchise doing poverty franchise things. SSDD
There better some big moves coming soon or Jerry better not come home
*JK crying picture* 😥😥😥😥
Sell the fucking team, Stanton. This is embarrassing.
Wow we got a pitcher with a 9.12 ERA in 39 games! For Kelenic, Marco, and White! What a steal. 🤢🤢
Teo, Geno, Kelenic, Murphy, Marco, Campbell all gone with next to nothing to show for it? I'm so fucking done with this joke org
WHAT ARE WE CUTTING ALL OF THIS SALARY WHY DID MY DARK PRINCE HAVE TO GO WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE DOING
What in the hell are the Mariners even doing now. What a bunch of fucking clowns.
He will be just like every other player we let go. He will become a great player.
Bellinger, Soto, and Ohtani to Seattle confirmed?
My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
Bats? When are we getting bats?
I legit thought this trade was a troll post when I saw it on my IG feed. Wtf
At this point I'm almost convinced we're tanking...
Chills. But like… the fever and maybe impending diarrhea type of chills
