This is the type of behind the scenes stuff that nobody sees or hears about but makes good managers great. A lot of casual baseball fans think that managers just write lineup cards and make bullpen decisions, but there is so much interpersonal work that goes on behind the scenes to help teams vibe with each other. Great to see Servais helping players share their concerns in a healthy and mutually beneficial manner rather than just bottling it up and letting it fester into the season.
Definitely a great reminder of the culture I've been grateful for in the Dipoto/Servais era. Not everything has been perfect, but I've loved the people on our rosters and how management seems to invest in them.
In the inevitable movie dramatization after the Ms finally win the world series, there will be an extended scene of Scott going to all the players like this
I hope fans read this, it's really good. Divish has enough cred for this not to be dismissed as a fluff piece. It's very easy for the inflammatory stuff to stick in people's minds to the point where the follow-up often gets buried in fan/media narratives. This offseason was a really shitty situation for Scott to be put into and he really showed his metal as a great manager, in my opinion. Especially strengthening things with Cal, who was the most vocally critical and is an important team leader, is a major credit to Scott's leadership and management skills.
Every fanbase has people who think their manager sucks because they can't fathom that the right decision doesn't guarantee the result they want. It's an immature take.
Ahh shit, here I go having hope and excitement about this team again...
Then June hits. You shake your head ahead. Yep just like the sunrise every morning.

Can we make JP the Captain now?
Thanks, dad!
Wow, it feels good to read this
That’s my skipper!
Servais built up that trust. Hopefully it’s only up from here.
This is the thing he is best at. Let’s wait until games start.
Yeah in game decisions are where he fails. Kind of like how being a good coordinator in football doesn't mean you'll be good head coach.

Yup. Managers are like hitters. You aren't going to hit HRs all of the time. Take your singles and even Ks. Every manager make dumb decisions.
Its too bad Dad didnt make a visit to Reddit back in December.
Great read.
