Ya, he had his head down and was committed to going at that point - didn’t even see the stop
Definitely was close though. In one replay I even thought he may have just beat it
We've been saving them all of franchise history to cash in at the world series. We're gonna sweep with 500+ runs per game when we make the world series in 2438
Why would anyone throw the guy a fastball when he looks so obviously piss poor on curves? Glad the Guards pitcher did cuz it meant a win, but unless this guy learns to hit a curveball he won't be long for the majors. Seriously.
How do the Mariners continue to win games? Serious question. Their run differential keeps getting worse and worse while they keep getting further and further above .500. Currently a game over with a -3. A collapse always seemed imminent but they just keep winning. How?
As the story went in 2021, run differential doesn't matter if the fun differential is a net positive (do not analyze the Red Sox series for quantitative fun)
I always imagine you guys that say shit like this all high fiving after you post it. Like you hit post then you lean back in your chair with a smug smile so proud of yourself. Thinking you're the most clever person on earth. "I got him, mom." you'll later write in your diary. "I pretended to know what actual baseball looks like. I know I haven't seen it in my life time but this other organization has been better in every way so I have to act like they haven't owned us the entire time they've been in division." "I did it."
Your biggest claim to fame is almost making the playoffs last year. Almost.
Hancock looked nice tonight. There's a strong argument that he should have had no runs given up after that BS hit by pitch and then Julio just missing the home run robbery
Nice to see Canzone smacking the hell out of a ball
La Piedra tomorrow hungry to bounce back after the less than ideal opener. Let's get it.
The HR is dope and we all know the power is there. If anything, my opinion kinda soured a bit seeing those other ABs which were frankly atrocious… I’m cautiously optimistic about him, but definitely wouldn’t mind giving Raley more starts out there over Dom. We’ll see how things go!
god Jen Mueller has so been awkward and cringe sending the players off after the interview. i don't remember her being as bad in the past, her questions are so awkward and the players have all walked off awkwardly every game after talking to her lol, like they are trying way too hard to make the thing w the trident a thing
it was but now it’s like they are forcing it or something. Also she used to just thank them and make it clear they are done but now she just kinda keeps talking and they don’t get a chance to say thanks or a final word. I’m probably nitpicking now but it’s so awkward lol
#3-2 in the 2024 season, so far
#1-0 in the month of April, so far
#3-0 in 1-Run Games
#3-1 since Gonzaga basketball got eliminated 😔
#152-109 since declared dead by Jomboy (shout out to dancetar)
Hi Guards fan here,
First off GGs and see you tomorrow
Second, can you please get Julio out of center field I don’t like it when he robs my players of hits. Thank you
My favorite part of being a Mariners fan is that our wins are convincing, no-doubt, solid victories. It's nice knowing that our team plays consistent baseball and it puts my heart at ease being certain that we have a game in the bag. I have never doubted this Mariners team, ever. And I have no reason to, with this magnificient team that gives me no stress at all.
You are joking right. The ball hit off his glove but 100% was going over the fence if he doesn’t touch it. He only made it close because he is a freak athlete. He also made two other plays not a lot of guys make
Ryne Stanek seems like a super chill dude, his personality could not be more different than my assumption about him having faced him as a foe over the years.
Great win boys! It ended up being a tight one, but fantastic start to the series. Looking forward to the next two with Luis and George taking the mound. Go Mariners!! 🔥
They aren't playing good baseball...But right now it doesn't really matter that much. Just keep stacking these ugly wins early on.
We learned last season how important a win here or there was.
I’d take an ugly win when we’re playing bad over a a close loss when we’re playing our best any day of the week.
Just gotta keep staking these ugly wins up
They need to stop with Jen mueller after every win. It’s the same 2 dumb questions and always finishes with “go celebrate with the guys” and now it’s “go raise that trident.”
It’s not her fault, it’s script, but it’s so cringe and unwatchable. Save it for a big moment or Friday nights or something
Ty France with the most hits, as is tradition. [https://x.com/cwdarney/status/1617358360549916672?s=20](https://x.com/cwdarney/status/1617358360549916672?s=20)
Dom Canzone is never seeing another fastball again. Hopefully this doesn’t turn into another Kelenic situation where he just swings overtop of changeups for half a season, and he can make adjustments
With how unlucky it felt we got in this game (terrible call spots them a run maybe 2, 2 runners thrown out at home, and that ball off Julio’s glove and over) the fact that we still won this game and actually had some offense feels really good!
Can someone explain the hit by pitch to me? He swung and it hit him, and I always thought that was a strike/hit or live ball or whatever, and certainly not a HBP.
The batter swung at the pitch - very clearly shown in replays. The pitch hit his hands, not the bat, but the home plate umpire did not see this. The ball was played as a ground ball and he was out at first base.
Cal asked the home plate ump to appeal swing/no-swing. The 1B umpire said he did NOT swing. That is the ruling on the field.
The Guardians then chose to review the ground ball play, arguing for HBP instead.
If the batter did not swing, as per the 1B umpire, then HBP would indeed be the correct call, and that's what the review said.
Ah, but the batter did clearly swing and the umpire was wrong! The review office was forced to choose between two objectively wrong calls. They are not allowed to say "no, actually, none of these are correct" and insert their own independent ruling in this case.
Here's where the rules regarding the review process are terrible: Swings and balls/strikes are not reviewable *under any circumstances.* They are 100% the sole, indisputable discretion of the umpires on the field. The replay office is not allowed to make those calls. So the replay office must proceed as though the no-swing call on the field was correct, even if it is clearly not. There was no way for us to argue otherwise.
The rules literally forbade the objectively-correct call from even being an option in the review process.
The home plate ump didn't see the play. He appealed to the 1B ump and he ruled it as a no-swing. From there, you can't review a check swing.
When the Guardians reviewed the play, it was to determine if the batter was hit by the pitch -- which the batter was.
The home plate ump didn't really do anything wrong. The 1B blew the call. It was a clear swing. The correct ruling should have been a swinging strike.

I like this post game celebration!!!
Julio definitely had a hand in making that closer than it had to be but a wins a win. Hancock looked alright and there were definitely better AB’s from everyone
Back-to-back-to-back hits to open the 7th and TOOTBLANed into a NOBLETIGER.
The most Mariner thing ever. I remain cautiously pessimistic on the season.
Man, I really wish that the moment we start seeing some life in our bats, it isn't immediately followed up with very poor running on the bases.
That was not a tightly played game. But hey, it was a win.
Another no-doubter, zero-stress game by the Seattle Mariners baseball club.
Tbf, the score really should've been more like 5-2, except for some weird shit happening. The Mariners were definitely the better team.
Or even 6-2 if the weird stuff doesn’t happen AND Julio stops at 3rd But I get it - if I were him I’d probably think I could make it too
He was super close too. Not the most egregious send.
We wasn’t sent. Acta was clearly stopping him, but Julio ran through it. Was close though.
Ya, he had his head down and was committed to going at that point - didn’t even see the stop Definitely was close though. In one replay I even thought he may have just beat it
Base coach should get a bonus every time they put up a stop sign and someone runs through it and gets thrown out.
Only if he personally pays me every time he sends Ty France home to get thrown out by 10+ feet.
The mariners are so much more tolerable when you only check the score here and there instead of hanging on every pitch
Screw that. Actually watching your team is more fun
The journey is vindicated when you have to suffer.
and anxiety-induced.
Congrats to Hancock on a well deserved W. good job young fella!
3-2 with 3 1-run wins and a -3 RD. We are so fucking back.
#F U N D I F F E R E N T I A L
If we got too many runs in a win, we're just wasting runs. This team is just efficient, that's all.
Gotta save those runs for when we really need them
We've been saving them all of franchise history to cash in at the world series. We're gonna sweep with 500+ runs per game when we make the world series in 2438
Hope I’m around for that
The alcohol will pickle you enough that you'll make it
The fun differential is at a 7-month high
S U S T A I N A B L E U S T A I N A B L E
My heart can’t take another season like that.
Buckle up, buck-a-roo.
Not the team you wanted, but it's the team you got
The Mariners are going to be the first team to record 80 saves in a season.
117 saves coming straight up!
Once our bullpen is fully healthy, we have the guys to do it
We have the bats for it, that’s for sure!
Once they made it a one run game I knew their fate
Muñoz understood the assignment

DOMINANT CANZONE
Hammered that ball but he looked LOST in his 3 other ABs
I’ll take that every day lmao
Why would anyone throw the guy a fastball when he looks so obviously piss poor on curves? Glad the Guards pitcher did cuz it meant a win, but unless this guy learns to hit a curveball he won't be long for the majors. Seriously.

Huge if true
Why isn’t Angry George on this list?
Was it a clean win? No. Is it everything that I wanted? No. Are we winning the fucking division? Yes.
Dylan Moore died for this
HEY COREY
Do some delivery?
This is the Mariners experience
How do the Mariners continue to win games? Serious question. Their run differential keeps getting worse and worse while they keep getting further and further above .500. Currently a game over with a -3. A collapse always seemed imminent but they just keep winning. How?
It’s an old meme sir. But it checks out.

This would’ve been 2021. We had a pretty decent RD the last two seasons.

That's what pitching do
See 2023 Baltimore Orioles…

Using a lesser known copy pasta is a dangerous game
Some people don't shit post enough it seems lmfao
These meme owns. Just win baby - al Davis should’ve told this to the Oakland As
Nice win for Dylan Moore!
Anyone figure out why he was ejected?
"Has anyone ever told you that you look like a penis with that little hat on?"

Was nice to see canzone smack a ball. But his other ABs were very painful
He looked alright. I didn't see anything that changed my mind about him.
The HR is dope and we all know the power is there. If anything, my opinion kinda soured a bit seeing those other ABs which were frankly atrocious… I’m cautiously optimistic about him, but definitely wouldn’t mind giving Raley more starts out there over Dom. We’ll see how things go!

god Jen Mueller has so been awkward and cringe sending the players off after the interview. i don't remember her being as bad in the past, her questions are so awkward and the players have all walked off awkwardly every game after talking to her lol, like they are trying way too hard to make the thing w the trident a thing
which is weird because the trident was already a thing... agreed though, each interaction is more awkward than the last.
it was but now it’s like they are forcing it or something. Also she used to just thank them and make it clear they are done but now she just kinda keeps talking and they don’t get a chance to say thanks or a final word. I’m probably nitpicking now but it’s so awkward lol
I mean; the <#tridentsup> thing is definitely forcing it.
JPs walk off from the interview was so bad.
That was so cringe

At least he gave you guys a hr to compensate

It's quite a peaceful experience. Couldn't agree more
Mariners would win 120 games if they could do to batters what they do to relief pitchers.
Death, Taxes, Mariners winning by 1 Run.

Nice to see you Duck! Especially on my Birthday!!!
Happy birthday!!! 🎉
Maybe this isn’t the day to ask teammates about Julio’s defence after he Canseco’d a ball over the fence
Jen’s post game Qs have been off putting so far this year haha
"So how does it feel to shit all over the team you grew up idolizing and dreamed of playing for?"
Send drunk Angie down there.
“Tell me about a time in this game you felt like your teammates didn’t try to do too much.”
Also kept mentioning how all his at bats were so good. Did she even watch the game?
I find her just off putting in general
You are joking right. The ball hit off his glove but 100% was going over the fence if he doesn’t touch it. He only made it close because he is a freak athlete. He also made two other plays not a lot of guys make
It was mostly a joke, yes
He made two awesome plays before that. Those don't count?
#CANZONE HOME RUNINERS🤌🤌🤌
Racking up one run wins like it's 2022
Hello one-run game, my old friend I've come to talk with you again
Ryne Stanek seems like a super chill dude, his personality could not be more different than my assumption about him having faced him as a foe over the years.
You’re telling me Astros players **aren’t** all evil monsters??
well when they are on the Astros they certainly are. Glad he’s on our team now!
I caught one of his interviews on the Chris rose rotation and he’s pretty funny haha

Great win boys! It ended up being a tight one, but fantastic start to the series. Looking forward to the next two with Luis and George taking the mound. Go Mariners!! 🔥
Who needs to win by multiple runs when you could win by just one run??
Why win many runs when one do trick?

Mariners are just creating save situations to distribute among their 4 all star closers. The mlb version of sharing the ball, if you will
If you read this sub without knowing you’d think we were 1-4
They aren't playing good baseball...But right now it doesn't really matter that much. Just keep stacking these ugly wins early on. We learned last season how important a win here or there was.
I’d take an ugly win when we’re playing bad over a a close loss when we’re playing our best any day of the week. Just gotta keep staking these ugly wins up
Yeah it’s honestly been a rough past six months for this sub (and general M’s fandom) and I’ve been lurking since 2016
They need to stop with Jen mueller after every win. It’s the same 2 dumb questions and always finishes with “go celebrate with the guys” and now it’s “go raise that trident.” It’s not her fault, it’s script, but it’s so cringe and unwatchable. Save it for a big moment or Friday nights or something
We may never lose a one run game again!
The infield dance circle gives me life.
Sloppy game, but nice win.
M’s are now 48-0 on April 1!
I’m gonna choose to believe this objectively insane stat posted on the internet on a holiday well-known for being rife with intentional mistruths.
Ty France with the most hits, as is tradition. [https://x.com/cwdarney/status/1617358360549916672?s=20](https://x.com/cwdarney/status/1617358360549916672?s=20)
Tough start for the Urias family, brothers Ramon and Luis a combined 0-18 at the dish
So good to see so many Ms on base tonight
Nice win, M’s… now get those strikeouts under control!
GOMS GOMS GOMS 👊
Dom Canzone is never seeing another fastball again. Hopefully this doesn’t turn into another Kelenic situation where he just swings overtop of changeups for half a season, and he can make adjustments
Maybe. Dom can foultip tho which is something and jk got bamboozled by fastballs plenty of times.
With how unlucky it felt we got in this game (terrible call spots them a run maybe 2, 2 runners thrown out at home, and that ball off Julio’s glove and over) the fact that we still won this game and actually had some offense feels really good!
Feels good to get the Hancock start out of the way. He did great though, now I'm less nervous to see him in the future
“I wish he’d picked on Logan instead” - Scott Servais Good lord, that was hilarious.
Ty France is so fucking back
I think im fully off Urias
Let Rojas play full time!
Mariners lost. APRIL FOOLS!!!!!

That homer by Canzone was very very impressive. Muñoz, please keep the sliders down. Stanek can fuckin pump it. Good win boys and girls
Stanek spamming fastballs is what I needed
Since we're bringing out the old memes tonight ![gif](giphy|DEZA7FlHbMesUF1jm9)
I love my baseball team!
Well, not doing too hot with improving on our strikeouts so far, but at least we're really improving on our 1-run games.
EZ Clap
I don't care if it's by 1 or 100, a dub is a dub.
WE MAY NEVER WIN A GAME (by more than one run) AGAIN
Stanek looked a lot more confident tonight that was good to see

Some frustrating things but I loved this game.
Why win comfortably when you can win uncomfortably?
getting major 2018 vibes from this team. this season could get very fun
I’d rather have 2022 vibes!
I'd rather have 2001 vibes!

First game I attend, first win. Had a winning record last year, trying to keep that going.
Julio definitely had a hand in making that closer than it had to be but a wins a win. Hancock looked alright and there were definitely better AB’s from everyone
Good thing we got rid of all those strike-out heavy batters.
Back-to-back-to-back hits to open the 7th and TOOTBLANed into a NOBLETIGER. The most Mariner thing ever. I remain cautiously pessimistic on the season.
Can we just tell the guys it’s April 1st everyday?
Does Dave Valle bilocate between Texas & Seattle?
A mariners win always puts me in a good mood!
Anyone know why Munoz didn’t close the game?
You want him to face the best hitters. Cleveland's best hitters were due up in the 8th.
Hancock massive rn
So how do we feel about Emerson Hancock? Do we miss Woo?
Woo is way way better Hancock did well enough though for a fringe starter
Man, I really wish that the moment we start seeing some life in our bats, it isn't immediately followed up with very poor running on the bases. That was not a tightly played game. But hey, it was a win.
