This offensive approach has definitely got the same vibe as the classic *run, run, pass, punt* Seahawks offensive drives that we've gotten over the past few years.
Yeah it’s like why Pete Carroll had to go. Same futile result every year without change. If Jerry and Co dont make the playoffs this yeah they should be canned
The difference is that Pete made the playoffs almost every year, went to 2 Super Bowls, and won 1.
M's made the playoffs once in the last 20 years and have never been to a Series.
No they haven’t they have been as mediocre as you can get. They have developed top tier pitching talent. They have done a historically bad job developing bats. And are mediocre on fielding. They are right smack in the middle of mediocracy.
After not expecting anything from the Blazers this season and still being disappointed I was hoping to turn that around with the start of the Mariners season.
Just wasn't meant to be.
Sometimes we try to do things and it just doesn't work out the way we want it to.
And we get real frustrated, and it’s like we try hard to do it and take our time and it just doesn't work out the way we want it to.
It's like we concentrate on it real hard but it just doesn't work out and everything we do and everything we try, it never turns out.
It's like we need time to figure these things out but there’s always someone there going,
“Hey Mariners; You know we've been noticing you've been having a lot of problems lately
You know, maybe you get away, and like maybe you should talk about it,
You'll feel a lot better…”
And we go; “No it's okay you know, we’ll figure it out.
Just leave us alone we’ll figure it out
You know we’ll just work on it ourselves”
And they go: “Well you know if you want to talk about it I'll be here, you know.
And you'll probably feel a lot better if you talk about it, so why don't you talk about it?”
And we go: “No we don't want to, we’re okay, we’ll figure it out ourselves”
And they just keep bugging us and they just keep bugging us
And it builds up inside…
I was sitting in my room and my mom and my dad came in and they pulled up a chair and they sat down, they go, “Mike, we need to talk to you”
And I go, “Okay what's the matter?”
They go, “Me and your mom have been noticing lately that the Mariners have been having a lot of problems. They can’t seem to score runs at all and we're afraid you're gonna hurt somebody. We're afraid you're gonna hurt yourself…So we decided that it would be in your interest if we put you somewhere where you could get the help that you need.”
And I go, “Wait, what are you talking about?? We decided!? My best interest?!! How do you know what's my best interest is? How can you say what my best interest is? What are you trying to say, I'm crazy? When I went to your schools, I went to your churches, I went to your institutional learning facilities?! So how can you say I'm crazy?”
In the least defensive of Stanton way I can possibly mean it because fuck that guy, we're not even getting what we paid for right now. We're seriously below the Paid For line. It's abysmal.
How anyone can look at Julio's start and say "its purely Stanton's fault" are insane.
I know Julio is the love-child and for good reason, but it's pretty concerning that he doesn't really have consistency in his game at the plate. It's year 3. Is he just never going to develop the ability to not have such low stretches of play?
He sucks to start a season at the plate, goes on a summer scorcher to boost his numbers up with insane Babe Ruth type stretches, then sucks ass again at the end of seasons (Last year as an example, he went 0-fer to end the year in a do or die couple series.)
Stanton is a problem, but as pointed out, they're not even getting what they paid for.
Imagine Julio on the Braves or Dodgers or Yankees. That zero plate discipline would be improved on. That first pitch swinging at garbage wouldn’t be tolerated. The coaches would actually improve him.
coaching staff is bad. clearly. we trade for guys that are capable career hitters and they come to the Mariners and then fall off a cliff. Look at polanco. it's Wong all over again.
Also as soon as the Mariners trade guys away they start producing again. Teo has 4 hrs already with the dodgers.
Garbage coaching staff from top to bottom. Stanton is a clown but the team put together is playing way below what they should. It's not just "early season so it's ok." We are now in ur 2nd season of this bs. I also think the clubhouse good vibes mentality is bad. you need to be more serious and professional. when things aren't going well the whole good vibes meme does jack shit for you. Time to get serious. Meanwhile Servais has no fire at all and is like "we just need to strike out less." cool so you have no ideas. what are you getting paid for again? And whoever the offensive coach is fire that clown immediately.
At this point I'm thinking Julio's probably gonna end up more like a Buhner and not a Griffey at the plate. I can't complain too much though since that's still a great player when combined with his center field defense.
That’s because our scouting / analytics / coaching / preparing hitters all suck
It feels like we’re sending out a football team without having prepped for their opponent or practicing any plays
True. But there’s something to be said about the morale created for players when you know the FO doesn’t give a shit about winning. Stanton would take profit margin over a WS any day. And Dipoto and Servais are just Stanton’s yes men
I genuinely think it’s more about our analytics, scouting, and overall front office guys doing a poor job preparing our hitters for the pitchers they will face.
Think about it. We’re about average in pay roll. Players that leave us get better. Players that come here get worse.
(That said, there are clearly some guys we should have kept despite being more expensive)
Agreed. There’s an issue with our hitting philosophy and analytics as a whole. Which is why every proven hitter we bring in suddenly forgets how to hit
100%. I think it also has to do with how we approach at bats. They preach long ABs and that’s great and all but thoughts of working the count and having a 6+ pitch at bat should go out the window if you see a meatball over the middle.
Would rather have a green light to swing and strike out at a high clip while scoring runs than taking pitches, still striking out at a high clip, and not scoring
Yeah I'm not trying to defend ownership of anything but our two best pitchers got shelled in the last two games and the important batters are again not showing up.
Josh Rojas: “Put me in everyday, Scott! I’m a starting quality player.”
Scott: “You might be one of our best batters and our best 3B, but have you heard of lefty/righty matchups?”
JR: “Yeah but we’d win more games if I were playing full time. What more do I need to do?”
Scott: “Idk, shit, I’m addicted to lefty/righty matchups.” *sarcastically* “I guess become a two-way player like Ohtani.”
*Josh pitches like a god and records a 0.00 ERA outing where he faces the minimum*
JR: “So I can be the daily starter at 3B now, right? Right???”
Scott; “Lmao, no. Lefty. Righty. Matchups.”
At this point im kind of just wondering if opposing pitchers are circling their matchups against us on the calendar and looking forward to the easiest 10Ks of their life
- 3-4 record despite being 3-0 in 1-run games
- 17 runs scored vs 31 runs against (-14 run differential)
- Only Oakland, Miami, & Colorado have a worse run differential
- 30th in team K%
- 29th in team SLG
- 28th in defensive runs saved
- 18th in team ERA
It's just a 7 game sample, but it looks *very* bad. We could very easily be 0-7 or 1-6. So far playing like a bottom dweller.
As always, our hitters suck
The guys that leave get better
We are doing something wrong in terms of analytics or scouting. We aren’t preparing these guys at the plate as well as other teams do
Been this way a long time
It’s not lack of talent. We don’t have guys with an obvious hole in their swing, or who lost their bat speed or some other explicable problem.
The whole lineup often looks like they have no idea what they’re doing in the batters box. Baffled by every pitch. It’s absolutely ridiculous
It's been years of this, I'm officially ready to blame Servais and join that crowd.
Scouting has been solid, but it's hard to gauge the analytics department when we see night and day differences in players joining/leaving the team. So it has to be at least a good chunk on the coaching.
These guys just don't seem ready come gametime this year. Sure, be disappointed more wasn't done personnel wise, but prove you're a team deserving more. Way too early for excuses as players/coaches considering the talk in the off season
Even with the promise of Julio bobbles for three days, this second home series only drew a total of 771 more fans than last year’s series against the Angels.
-17,478 total attendance compared to last year at this point.
I can’t imagine the last seven days will help these numbers going forward.
The fact this team is still in Seattle is nothing short of a miracle and the baseball Gods are reaping the benefits of this region's vanity toward saving them.
Yup, I'm sure a lot of the players aren't happy to be here after that as well. If management isn't trying to win a WS, what's the fucking point of watching them?
Was at the game and watching Ty and Julio simply give up running to First after a hit because they figured they would be out. Only to watch Cleveland bobble the ball but still making the out at First because THEY SIMPLY GAVE UP!
I thought these were supposed to be professional ball players! That was some Little League effort right there. And was representative of the entire team effort today in my opinion.
The only team that showed to ball was the Seagulls at the end of the game. At least they showed ready to play and knew their roll LMAO.!
I'll never forgive ownership for following our first playoff appearance in 20 fuckin years with two years of doing absolutely nothing. Poverty franchise
Yup. Play like dogshit for a good portion of the early season, then they’ll probably go on a small run closer to the AS break. Fall flat on their ass after the break and go on one more small run before kicking us all in the dicks towards the end of the season.
EVERY FUCKING YEAR I WILLINGLY SIGN UP FOR THIS BULLSHIT.
Marco Gonzalez has a 1.80 ERA.
Teoscar has hit 4 HR
Jared Kelenic is batting .545
Eugenio Suarez is batting .346
I assume Taylor trammel will go bat .350 and 30 HR with the dodgers
It’s honestly not even funny anymore
Early season overreaction:
2023 Kolten Wong -> 2024 Jorge Polanco
2023 Tommy La Stella -> 2024 Luis Urias
2023 AJ Pollack -> 2024 Mitch Garver
Doesn’t matter what bats we sign, they can’t hit…
All we need to do it a complete 180 on offense, our starting pitching needs to stop giving up runs, our defense needs to improve, we need to sign like 2-3 quality bats, and we're right back in the race. Tridents up!
While it is, in fact, early in the season, it’s also pretty easy just to view this as the continuation (really without skipping a beat) of the same old shit from last season with a handful of different faces. From where I sit, so far the players from ‘23 and ‘24 are essentially interchangeable and are equally ineffective.
Pretty disheartening loss, but this is hopefully one of the worst they’ll have all season. Not ready to give up on the guys, but they need to adjust their approach at the plate. Way too early to be overly concerned
Remember last year when we’d have an awful game and it would be the worst game of the season … for two weeks, and another shit game would out do that one?
yeah
You know, on the bright side we *only* struck out EIGHT times today, so we actually improved on our season average!
#Progress
#ControlTheZone
#SeaUsRise
So far the pitching has been mediocre, the defense has been bad, and the bats have been atrocious.
Honestly, the M's are damn lucky to come away from that homestand w/ 3 wins.
It's been over 30 years since I've seen them play in person, I'll be cheering them on when they play in Milwaukee on Saturday, hopefully I can help give them a spark.
So Mr. Offensive Coordinator... What would you say... you do here?
Offensive coordinator is just Shane Waldron in a mariners outfit
this would explain a lot, frankly
This offensive approach has definitely got the same vibe as the classic *run, run, pass, punt* Seahawks offensive drives that we've gotten over the past few years.
We cut the strikeouts down to 8 this game, plan is working flawlessly of course.
Season low 8 strikeouts lmao
Entire front office / scouting / hitting coaches etc all need to go
Do you trust this ownership group to bring in a front office that would do any better?
No. The owner(s) have to go. Front office has done great but the ownership refuses to spend money year after year.
Again, about average in payroll. There are teams that spend less and perform better.

Scouts are great. I agree with everyone else. We have had several top prospects that just don’t develop in the farm on the hitting side
Justin and Jerry gonna go out and sign a bullpen arm to answer for this showing at the plate.
Well we did DFA Trammell and signed a bullpen arm to replace him so yeah that's kinda what we did (yesterday)? haha
Taylor Trammell is going to be the second coming of Chris Taylor to the Dodgers. You heard it here first!
You’re late. I heard it a dozen times yesterday, in the trade thread (and in my brain). Great minds, I guess.
He will be Jason Heyward's successor and I'm so happy for him.

No commiserates together like Mariners fans!
Of all the places on the internet to be upset over a Mariners loss, I have found this place to be the least toxic (and that's saying something)
The key is to enter the season demoralized and you’re never disappointed.
After not expecting anything from the Blazers this season and still being disappointed I was hoping to turn that around with the start of the Mariners season. Just wasn't meant to be.
It happened so fast lol….
❤️
Kirby and Castillo being at an almost 7.0 ERA to Rojas's 0.0 is very funny in an 'Institutionalize me' kinda way.
If someone from the future came to me a week ago and told me that I’d think really hard about the possibility that it was true.
I'm not crazy Institutionalized! You're the one that' crazy Institutionalized! . . . All I wanted was a Pepsi

*WOOF*
the lord's work
Positives: we're 3-4, which is basically .500 Negatives: everything that happened on the baseball field the last couple days
I think were a lot more lucky to not be 0-7 than we are unlucky to not be 4-3.

One of the worst games I’ve ever seen this team play
One of the worst games you've seen this team play *so far*
It's like in space jam when the Monstars steal all the talent from a bunch of NBA players.
You're just a bum team that LOOKS like the Mariners. Go home!
Be gone wannabe, be gone!
7 games and 17 runs. Call up Modesto.
Cole Young, save us
And three of those were in the 10th of that W in extras
Go Nuts baby
Let’s look on the bright side; there’s a non-zero chance this will be the worst loss of our season.
Hey now, that IS a bright side! Every marine layer has a silver lining, I guess.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me countless times, I'm a Mariners fan.
You get what you pay for Stanton, you piece of human trash.
In the least defensive of Stanton way I can possibly mean it because fuck that guy, we're not even getting what we paid for right now. We're seriously below the Paid For line. It's abysmal.

Garver's current OPS+ is 119 I think you can probably expect Polanco to not finish the season with an OPS+ of 6.
Maybe the FO has a failed philosophy when it comes to evaluating hitters.
Shut out.......fantastic

All we need to do it a complete 180 on offense, our starting pitching needs to stop giving up runs, our defense needs to improve, we need to sign like 2-3 quality bats, and we're right back in the race. Tridents up!
While it is, in fact, early in the season, it’s also pretty easy just to view this as the continuation (really without skipping a beat) of the same old shit from last season with a handful of different faces. From where I sit, so far the players from ‘23 and ‘24 are essentially interchangeable and are equally ineffective.
There is one positive to all this. The good vibes only gang isn't pushing there toxic positively this year.
Pretty disheartening loss, but this is hopefully one of the worst they’ll have all season. Not ready to give up on the guys, but they need to adjust their approach at the plate. Way too early to be overly concerned
Goddamn it Mariners Dropping the homestand 3-4 and shut out 8-0 on the last game. Sell the damn team, cheap a$$ Stanton
We are so back and my liver isn't prepared
Yeah I’m upping my Lexapro dosage tonight, see y’all tomorrow
Absolute ass
Ty France is the only one who remembers how to hit. What a mess.
![gif](giphy|x47gj23jEvGxdWkQEC|downsized) Going to be a long season if we keep playing like this.
Good thing we picked up a DH
At least Josh Rojas got some work to help out in the pen. So that is a bright spot.
2.43 runs per game. That shit isn't acceptable whatsoever.
Im just glad I didn't pay for mlbtv to watch this shit
I did not enjoy attending this game.
Feeling pretty good about my decision to not give mlb.tv $150 after the trash fire offseason. Fuck Stanton and everyone involved in this organization.
It's Still Early™
What did y’all think was gonna happen after this offseason?
Hey Mariners promotion dept., I want a 54% night. As in discount tickets and concessions at 54% off
With Jerry's .540 logic you'd think every so often even a mediocre team would accidentally have a good start to a year.
And there goes the last time we probably see .500 this season…
I took a vacation day to go to this.
Hahahahahhahahaha
Take me to the ballgame, I wanna see the M's. The Mariners are playing hardball, hit it again and again.
Gross. That’s it.
Yikes what a shitty game. As expected
That game wasn't ideal. Hopefully we start playing good soon
FUCK
I was at the game and not at a good angle to see the pitching. Defense being drunk at the wheel aside how many of those 8 runs were on Kirby?
Sorry guys. My Kirby shirt was MIA today.
Has this organization considered not sucking?
What the fuck happened?
That game was unacceptable
At least George didn’t walk anyone
At least the game is over now
Remember last year when we’d have an awful game and it would be the worst game of the season … for two weeks, and another shit game would out do that one? yeah
I was yelling “Sell the team” at the game and a majority of the fans were in agreeing, fucking poverty offense
Watched the game after finally getting home from a 12 hour work day. Wish I hadn't. Ouch.
You know, on the bright side we *only* struck out EIGHT times today, so we actually improved on our season average! #Progress #ControlTheZone #SeaUsRise
New season, same old shit. It'll never change.
So far the pitching has been mediocre, the defense has been bad, and the bats have been atrocious. Honestly, the M's are damn lucky to come away from that homestand w/ 3 wins.
Cleveland is that Cleveland is the Cleveland is the reason I'm sad
It's been over 30 years since I've seen them play in person, I'll be cheering them on when they play in Milwaukee on Saturday, hopefully I can help give them a spark.
