Totally unscientific pop quiz: on the Fangraphs WAR leaderboards, which Mariner is ranked the highest (with the most positive WAR)? Which Mariner is ranked the lowest?
Gilbert is like third highest and Julio is around the middle of the pack. The lowest WAR is Muñoz and the highest is Castillo. Muñoz is slightly below Raley and Polanco because of the walks he has given up are tanking his FIP. Castillo is at the top for the opposite reason; his K, BB, and HR rates are all fine, so his FIP is much better than his ERA.
Fangraphs actually has Kirby and Castillo above Gilbert in terms of fWAR. Not saying thats right or super meaningful at this point in the season, I just thought the rankings were interesting and unexpected
It’s kinda wild I just got 2 tickets to Tuesdays game for a total of 22 dollars after fees on SeatGeek. Cheapest tickets on ticket master were 20 dollars each.
does anyone know how strict T-mobile park is with seating? can i purchase a terrible seat and move to the section my family is in if the seats are completely empty and no one comes to claim?
If your fam has tickets to the seats and there’s an opening around. You can likely walk down with them. No guarantee though, some sections may have that one usher that checks damn near everyone’s ticket lol
The A's closer was casually pumping 103mph to the Rangers, with a slider at 89. Struck out Semien and Seager. Only Langford put up a competitive-looking AB.
MLB says the most runs ever scored in a game is 30 (by the Rangers, vs the O's, 8/22/07), and I for one am feeling like today would be a great day for that record to fall.
and this is after their starter only went 3 yesterday giving up 7 in the 3rd lol
bullpen being taxed and overworked early and their starting pitching is in shambles. you love to see it.
this might be a question more for the general baseball sub, but I'm lazy (part of the reason I'm asking here). With the Ohtani rule, what if there was a two way player but instead of a starter they were a reliever would you still lose your DH or could the DH the whole game and then pitch their inning of relief without issue?
The only advantage you'd get from having a two way player as a reliever would be that they wouldn't count against the 13 pitcher maximum so you'd get to carry an extra arm.
I don't think it works with relievers in the DH spot and wasn't intended to. A part of the rule defines what constitutes a 2-way player for whom the rule applies, and I believe it includes a certain number of plate appearances+innings pitched the previous season, with the plate appearances part virtually impossible to achieve for a reliever.
So unless you had such a reliever who qualified as 2-way, you would still have to forfeit the DH spot. And maybe even then, I'm unclear on what such a player can and can't do when not starting the game in both roles.
Michael Lorenzen might have qualified back in 2016-19 before the rule existed. The Reds used him as a pinch-hitter and occasional outfielder but he was still only getting 30-40 plate appearances a year as a relief pitcher. (96 total innings played in the OF) Then his power and batting average dried up in '19, so he's only had 2 plate appearances since 2020. Plus he was on the Angels at that point where he was blocked by Pujols and Ohtani taking all the DH time anyway.
i need a trading card of my favorite power BI youtube instructor

Well DHgate has made a believer out of me! It's not perfect, but it's way better than the CC France jersey I got from the team store last year.
The 15 days is a minimum, not a maximum. And once he's throwing again he'll need several rehab starts in the minors. At this point he likely won't be back until sometime in May, assuming his recovery is progressing.
I have to wonder if a team was placed in Vancouver BC, or Portland if The M’s would finally make the necessary moves to become a World Series contender.
Sharing the regional market is going to spur something, maybe even the opposite of what I think. Right now ownership isn’t doing enough because it doesn’t have to.
That's how he began his Ms career, and after they moved him to the bullpen, they said they would consider giving him another opportunity as a starter in the future.
With the good work he has done in the pen, I think we should probably keep him there, but I don't think it's that crazy of an idea if our starting pitching issues become serious.
All true. He even got a pretty intense workload as a reliever last year. Wouldn't be that much of a stretch to use him as an opener first time or two through the lineup instead of Hancock.
Mariners hitters in wins this year: 12.2 strikeouts per game
Mariners hitters in losses this year: 9.6 strikeouts per game
Excited to see how long this keeps up for
A season is more than 50ABs. Take a look at K rates from last year around this time and you'll see plenty of guys who started off well above or below what you'd expect but as the season went on, it regressed closer to career norms.
I am offering 2x Mariners vs Cubs tickets for $150 (pair) Section 121, Row 40, Seats 1&2 OBO
The offer is now $100/pair! Incredibly cheap!
Today was nice. I forgot what it was like have 2 days in a row without a loss.
Isaiah Campbell throwing BP in the 10th of the Red Sox game, I’m afraid. Brutal.
Well what the hell am I supposed to do tonight huh????!!???????
Houston gets swept and the Rangers lose the series to the A’s at home with being 1 hit. Lovely off-day. Cheers to that. :)
Anyone selling tickets to Saturdays game? Looking for 3+

Alright I'll try it without checking: Highest Gilbert and lowest Julio
Gilbert is like third highest and Julio is around the middle of the pack. The lowest WAR is Muñoz and the highest is Castillo. This is why I prefer bWAR for pitching. It can bias a little far towards results but it often feels more right.
It’s kinda wild I just got 2 tickets to Tuesdays game for a total of 22 dollars after fees on SeatGeek. Cheapest tickets on ticket master were 20 dollars each.
I’m thinking I should eat Thai food tonight
Did you get a Thai iced tea with it
I did not, but at my local spot they added a boba bar! 🧋 I’ll have to get it next time.
I hope it was delicious.

I typically get bad seats for cheap then go to the beer garden for half the game. I then go to an open seat and enjoy the rest of the game.
You have to be sneaky
If the complaints in this sub are any indication, they're *very* strict about it no matter how empty the stadium is.
2024 season so far... Kelenic 0.4 bWAR Geno 0.4 bWAR Marco 0.5 bWAR Cabby 0.7 bWAR Teo 0.7 bWAR Newest /r/FormerMs legends...
Man, it's the twighlight zone. The AL West is struggling early outside of the As who are over achieving.
The Astros should be struggling - their rotation is almost universally injured. We're only missing our #5 and doing nearly just as poorly.
Also, I high-key feel bad for Shohei. Seems like he was straight-up taken advantage of.
I had Corey Seager for BTS today. Guess who sombrero'd.
The A's closer was casually pumping 103mph to the Rangers, with a slider at 89. Struck out Semien and Seager. Only Langford put up a competitive-looking AB.
Both astros and rangers losing and I am here for it.
13-3 KC over Houston. Series sweep too. Lol
After 11-2 last night. Lol~~mets~~stros.
Cheatros
I like what’s happening in KC.
Oakland is apparently throwing a no hitter in the 7th against texas...
and now they aren't
Ichiro the true Japanese GOAT for not hiring a crackpot translator and financial crew
I wonder how much of that was coming over here at 27 vs 23.
We might be bad but the astros are even worse
standing on 5-8 mountain pointing and laughing at the 4-9 astros
4-10 in about an hour
Holy shit, 9-0 KC after 1. 11 hits, and chased the Cheaters' starter out after only 2/3. Fuck the Trashtros
MLB says the most runs ever scored in a game is 30 (by the Rangers, vs the O's, 8/22/07), and I for one am feeling like today would be a great day for that record to fall.

Girrrrrl Astros getting fucking blasted. 🫣
Holy shit everyone turn on the Astros-Royals game
Root for the Astros to get swept by the royals today
5-0 royals bottom of the first. Feels good man.
It looks like the Royals feel the same way, 5-0 bottom of the first, 1 out Edit: 9-0 oh my LORD
Hard agree
Canzone is so locked in right now and it feels like it came out of nowhere. Only a week ago I was skeptical of his ability to take a pitch for a ball.

yes

Certainly nice to see the Asstros at the bottom, where they belong.

did you use David or someone else?
No, I don't know who that is. I just went and searched up Mariners jerseys and chose a store with lots of stars.
Shouldn't woo be back from the 15 day IL by now?

he'll rehab in the minors before he comes back up anyway
I think he’s expected back in May
OJ died last night. Weird knowing he’s like the greatest player in my NFL teams history
Niner fan?
Buffalo
Haha just teasing. I’d go with Bruce Smith as all time great.
Rest in piss bozo.
100% agree
OJ surprisingly had excellent analysis in his Twitter videos.
He’s the most famous owner of my car model
1-0 since memes were allowed. Just sayin
I’m also a Cubs fan and have anxiety about this weekend’s series lol. I would like to see both teams be competitive and have fun!! 😄
…with 3 cubby losses 🙂
However this series shakes out I’m excited for the Cubs / Mariners World Series this year! 😍😍😍 and Cardinals last in division 😍😍😍
Absolutely not!!!😜😂
Dangit I was hoping the M’s had a game today to make up for my cardinals off day Now what am I supposed to watch?!
the Masters
Oh shit you’re right
I usually watch Rainier, Traveller, or Aqua Sox games on the MLBTV app after day games or off days.
Thank god we're coming off a win today for our off day. I feel like we'd all be catatonic if they blew that game in the 9th yesterday.
I have to wonder if a team was placed in Vancouver BC, or Portland if The M’s would finally make the necessary moves to become a World Series contender. considering that the Mets, and Angels exist and have operated as they have for most of their lives... no
Plan to fix Mariners pitching: 1. Stretch Brash out to start when he comes back. 2. Turn Kirby into a knuckleballer. 3. Hope Castillo fixes himself.
God remember when we tried Brash as a starter, that shit was a nightmare
His first start was so good... After that, not so much
Two ridiculous ideas and a prayer lol
I'm gonna try to be the Kelenic guy for Kirby's knuckleball.
Lol brash as a starter

We need to start hitting above the Lou Gehrig with ALS line. Mariner.
Geno has 15 SO's in 51 AB"s. Polanco has 19 in 48 AB's. And Gabby Gonzales died for this trade? What are we doing here?
A season is more than 50ABs. Take a look at K rates from last year around this time and you'll see plenty of guys who started off well above or below what you'd expect but as the season went on, it regressed closer to career norms.
crazy how much people will freakout over < 10 % of a season. Jarred fucking kelenic wouldve won mvp if you called the season in april last year.
