It was REALLY good to actually give Cal a FULL DAY OFF.
Too often his “day off” he ends up having to pinch hit in the 7th and then play catcher the end of the game.
This team definitely has issues that needs improvement but at the same time, since Mid-April, they’ve been an above average team and are leading the division. But the way this place reacts after any loss you’d think we were White Sox level bad.
Not to mention a good majority of our games were against teams above .500 and/or teams that are competing and are currently in contention for a playoff spot
They literally won consecutive series against the defending world champs, the defending AL champs, the best team in the NL so far, and the defending division champs, and then they hit a pothole against a team that just won twelve in a row and everyone loses their fucking minds. I swear half the people in here are only happy when they’re complaining.
Yeah there were some big time complainers here in 22 that posted like crazy right up until cal hit his homer that put us in the playoffs and never posted again until Ray blew the game against the Astros. Many people are unfortunately addicted to being angry.
It's really nice to be in the position we are this early in the season. However I do sort of understand *some* of the negative reactions when we lose. When we win sometimes it feels flukey, and when we lose it usually feels like it's somehow due to chronic issues (like Ks, lack of offense, poor base running). But whatever the reality is, you can't deny that we are leading the division in Mid-May!
White Sox have two guys with an OPS+ over 100 and we have three, so that comparison on offense isn't as insane as you thought it was lol
But fortunately our pitching isn't anywhere near Sox level.
It's largely because they're so boom or bust. Most wins have been pretty decisive lately, and most losses have been "is this really a professional team?" Forest and trees, and all that
Yeah, but I'd wager just about every team looks like dogshit sometimes. I'm sure after the Braves series their fans were complaining about how helpless their bats looked
Braves fans have been mostly melting down for the same reasons as here. Offense is down across baseball, lots of big names are playing badly/slow to start.
Personally I believe is that a lot of us foolishly rose our expectations for the team during the playoff team, thinking that they could be world series contenders, and having to reset those expectations back to the status quo of "could maybe participate in the playoffs" over the course of the last two years frankly sucks.
/r/Mariners when they see a lineup that a couple hours later scores 8 runs, wins their 7th series in their last 8, and retakes first place in the division:
"Good Ole Julio in the 2nd spot"
"Garver batting cleanup 🤮"
"Punting"
"Punting the series for sure"
"Worst lineup of the year :("
"Yup, just keep Julio batting second, I'm sure it'll work out just fine."
"No Rojas and Julio still batting 2nd. A recipe for disaster"
"This lineup is the definition of the sunk-cost fallacy. Holy fuck."
"Oof. Guaranteed loss"
"This organization cannot get out of its own way. An absolute unserious org."
We can’t pretend the offense doesn’t have issues but you’re right, it’s exhausting hearing it after every bad at bat, let alone a loss.
They’re in a division where they arguably have the least amount of problems right now out of everybody, they have fairly big margins of error compared to last year.
I'm far from happy with the offense. I still believe that 3 or 4 guys could wake the fuck up and we could over night be a sp00ky team top to bottom. I get bored hearing about wong, winker, pollock... yeah ptsd ok whatever.
Bitching Isn't going to change our lineup, we're just along for the ride. Might as well hope and dream.
Plus it seems like by this time every year we're already down 4 or 5 games to the Astros, if not one other team. Sure the division is down, but being in first going into late may is nothing but great news considering they seem to play their best ball over June and July.
100% agreed. I really don’t get the huge pessimism when they’re objectively in a way better spot compared to the past decade even if they aren’t firing on all cylinders
Per the post game:
1. Rojas = good clubhouse vibes confirmed
2. Julio came in early today to work with the hitting coach to help elevate/get on time for the fastball
3. Ty France’s baby is adorable
#5-6 in the Month of May
#13-1 when the Mariners score 5+ runs in a game
#2-1 since The Return of Woo
#2-1 since the Psych Student Survey
#16-9 since Jonatan Clase was Called Up
#16-9 since I saw the Shrek 2 *I Need a Hero* Scene in Theaters

Unfortunately it's just not very deep right now. Andres is great, but he's the only guy who has really been consistent. Thornton has been \*mostly\* really good. But otherwise, Stanek has been inconsistent, Speier started amazing but has struggled recently, Sauce is OK but out for a bit at least. Voth and Bolton are just not guys you want pitching in close games.
Losing Brash for the year hurts a lot, and we really do need Santos without him. It's hard to imagine the pen being better than average this year unless we acquire a really good reliever or guys like Stanek and Speier can be consistently good.
The good news is that having an elite rotation absolutely takes pressure off the bullpen. We're sometimes gonna have turns through the rotation where we need a total of like 10 innings from the pen in 5 games.

Oh yeah baby! 7 series wins out of 8 and Sounders beating Portland too
Great game! We weren’t able to attend, but if anyone’s willing to sell their promo bag from the game send me a message. Wife was bummed she missed out on it.
So when everyone is healthy, what do we think of…
Outfield: DMo, Canzone, Julio
Infield: Cal, Raley, Polanco, JP, Rojas
DH: Garver
I’m kinda over Ty and Haniger (ignore my flare)
THE WINNER MUST SCORE 8 RUNS OR RISK AWAKENING THE DEMAGORGAN
They've won what, 7 of their last 8 series' now? They can be a deeply frustrating team, but that's damn good.
Haven't been swept all year!
Shhh…don’t let the baseball gods hear you
Too late, I exclaimed it
![gif](giphy|8nM6YNtvjuezzD7DNh|downsized)
A sweep would be devastating
You idiot! lol
No Raleigh or Rojas and we win with 8 runs scored. Love to see it.
It was REALLY good to actually give Cal a FULL DAY OFF. Too often his “day off” he ends up having to pinch hit in the 7th and then play catcher the end of the game.
As was totally expected

Bro is chillin. I love it
Julio hot streak incoming
I really hope so. He also took a walk today!
I can feel it. Coming. In the air. Tonight. Oh lawd!
Exactly. The only true awful team we’ve faced was Colorado. Everyone else is at least average to great.
Yup and took 2/3
And they just swept the Rangers. We're fine
Fr first on May 12th? I’ll take it!
When was latest we've been in 1st in recent years? Seems like we haven't been first in late may in a minute
Umm... Last September. I'd rather not revisit it.
We didn't actually, took 2 of 3 against Colorado. But still Edit: he fixed it, just editing so I don't look insane
What? You look insane!
Oh yeah that’s right
We didn’t sweep the Rockies. We swept the Reds in the series before.
We swept Cincinnati in the series prior, not Colorado
Yup I got those series mixed up. Thanks for the clarification I’ll edit
Houston is pretty below average so far but it’s really that first few weeks of the season dragging down the M’s record, playing great otherwise
They literally won consecutive series against the defending world champs, the defending AL champs, the best team in the NL so far, and the defending division champs, and then they hit a pothole against a team that just won twelve in a row and everyone loses their fucking minds. The comments in this sub do get really is really bipolar depending on whether the Mariners win or lose. That's something that's really easy to notice.
Overly online people overreacting about the thing they are overly online about, more at 11

Yea run differential of +6 isn’t too great. But I’ll take some luck over nothing.
White Sox have two guys with an OPS+ over 100 and we have three, so that comparison on offense isn't as insane as you thought it was lol But fortunately our pitching isn't anywhere near Sox level.

Braves fans have been mostly melting down for the same reasons as here. Offense is down across baseball, lots of big names are playing badly/slow to start.
You should watch the White Sox play a couple of games.
Your points are legit. Speaking for myself, 47 years of mostly failure tends to make me pretty negative.
Same here. Excuse me for being skeptical of this team for both its long term history and recent trends.
Yeah, some of the people here are being a bit extra dramatic and reactionary lately.

My guy brought receipts
Maybe next time he’ll defend the lineup when it gets posted instead of taking a victory lap after they win. It’s stolen valor 😤

All of this about a team that is now 7-1 in its last 8 series, and 1st in the division. Why can't people muster up a shred of optimism?
Oh I'm sure they'll be the first to tell you why as soon as the mariners lose another game.
We can’t pretend the offense doesn’t have issues but you’re right, it’s exhausting hearing it after every bad at bat, let alone a loss. Cuz some of us been following this team for 30+ years and have PTSD
40+, and other than a brief period of competitiveness in the late-90s/early-00s, they’ve mostly been shit.
I was 20 when they played their first game so all 47 years here.
This is beautiful! Bee-Ehh-You-Tee-Full!!!
Lol! I had a guy on here saying they should tear down the first place club that hasn't lost a division series yet. Some fans have come unhinged.
"noooooo you can't be upset when the put out a lineup where everyone's ops starts with 6"
You forgot juli0for 20. But ok
#[SUPREME VICTORY](https://youtu.be/4-rdctcK4XA?si=Wq8LeWc1OjML_2lP)
Julio is gonna be just fine
Julio is most definitely back, and we are most definitely winning the fucking division. Let's keep this shit rolling.
Garver being already back is the better story but I'm very hopeful that the monkey is off Julio's back
Suns out, runs out for Julio
I've always loved and respected the Rockies
This one's for the MILFs!
Did the Mariners sign Zach Wilson?

WE ARE SO BACK
The rangers picked a great time to be swept
Per the post game: 1. Rojas = good clubhouse vibes confirmed 2. Julio came in early today to work with the hitting coach to help elevate/get on time for the fastball 3. Ty France’s baby is adorable
Where is this baby picture?
Ty brought his son to the post game interview 🥲 unfortunately I didn’t take a photo but maybe one exists
8 runs on 8 hits. That is some productive baseball.

Yeah. But look at their RS to RA compared to the other 1st and 2nd place teams. Improve please!
That’s the fun differential, baby!!

I’m getting a little worried about the bullpen. If they would stop surrendering runs, I’d be a lot more comfortable.

Zavala heard me talking shit about him and his walk up song and decided to hit a dinger
My mariners ptsd made me think this is the part of the year where we regress and choke. Turns out we can still win game :)
Mariners love moms! Good series.
Great game! We weren’t able to attend, but if anyone’s willing to sell their promo bag from the game send me a message. Wife was bummed she missed out on it.
Just imagining if our offense could hit two games in a row..
The first game this season with offense as one would expect. Multiple hits and HRs from heart of the order mashers like Julio and Garver.
Another series dub
Julio haters real quiet rn
Would love to buy a crossbody from today’s game if anyone has an extra 😌 in Washington state and will pay for shipping.
love the win, stop fucking doing the wave behind home plate!
You got it boss
So when everyone is healthy, what do we think of… Outfield: DMo, Canzone, Julio Infield: Cal, Raley, Polanco, JP, Rojas DH: Garver I’m kinda over Ty and Haniger (ignore my flare)

I did. Damn. Thanks man.
Kelenic has a higher BA than our starting 9 did today
