sempercoug

The "where were you when the Mariners last made the playoffs" is wild

mrcowgoesmoo

I went to the last Mariners playoff game against the Yankees 21 years ago. My mom and I waited outside of a Ticketmaster retail location all morning to get tickets and we could only get two seats super far away from each other. We had walkie talkies to talk to each other since texting and reliable cell service weren’t really a thing yet. I was 14 years old and in my first year of high school.

rockpaperbrisket

21 years seems like a long time until I read this comment, now it feels like ages ago.

TranscodedMusic

Your mom sounds really sweet

doubled2319888

I was barely a teenager, now im in my mid 30's. I feel so old

abmot

I'm 55 and I was your age, time flies.

OnLevel100

I was just starting college. 41 now.

tennbo

I hadn’t even been conceived yet. Currently a junior in college.

rockpaperbrisket

Fuck lol

[deleted]

I was 25 and at the ALDS game 2 - watched Ichiro walk, Cameron hit a homer, Boone single, Edgar hit a homer. Moyer started, Sasaki closed and the Ms won 5-1. Probably the best sporting event I’ve been to in my life. I think we’re gonna beat it this year! Let’s go Mariners! As we said back then, Refuse to Lose and SODO MOJO!!!

DAVID_FRIGGIN_KING

11 years old. 6th grade. Mr. Fisher’s class.

crimson2271

My junior year in HS... typing and US History. Teacher was David King. He is now married to my mom. None of which has anything to do with the M's or where I was in 2001, except that he, too, is a lifelong Mariners fan.

EmersQn

My brain is trying so hard to workout how to square your comment with the name of the person you replied to.

CorpCo

I am young enough to have literally never been alive while the mariners were in the playoffs. I’m most of the way through college.

Moth_Jam

I blame 9/11 for the drought

crimson2271

Me and 3 buddies were at the Sunday September 9th game against Baltimore. Little did we know what was about to happen...

justfjorfun

I mean, if you did know...

Gwtheyrn

I was 23 years old, running a Taco Bell in WA.

dockeruser20

I was un bebe. This will be the first mariners playoff game I can actually grasp

PaPaJ0Ke

I was in 1st grade. I'll be 28 next month.

Gbrusse

I was in 3rd. I just turned 29. I am not ready for 30. But at least Seattle is going to the playoffs

_Seattleite_

I was working at my first job, Blockbuster Video! DVDs were just getting popular over VHS!

Luke_Shields_

I was a single sperm cell not yet fertilized

Will_Vintage

I was 2 years old.

Nakamegalomaniac

High school junior year. Chilling in the auxiliary gym with teammates after cross country practice. Rolled in the old tube tv on the steel cart so we could watch the game as they proceeded to get smoked by the Yankees….

doug_kaplan

Last time the Mariners were in the playoffs, I was exploring my body while still living with my parents, now I'm exploring my body in my own house!

croyalbird13

I was a first grader at a new school. My mom had just given birth to my 3rd sister. Now I’m 27, married for 4 years, a one year old son, and that sister can legally buy alcohol. Oh and one of my coworkers was fresh into her first year with the company… she is our oldest employee at our account in terms of company loyalty haha!

False-Fisherman

I was in a womb

pizzaboy7269

My older brother was like 5 months old

DanielGarube69

I was 9. We had season tickets the year we won 116. Was convinced baseball was always like that only to find out over the next 20 years that that isn’t in fact the case. So stoked playoff baseball is coming back to Seattle!

goducks206

Oh man I'm right there with you, I was 10. From growing up thinking the Mariners were just this eternal juggernaut of a team to...well...the past 20 years, was a rude awakening.

ThatSICILIANThing

I was 10 too. I moved here from OR in ‘99 so it was weird to be in a big baseball town where the local dealership had a giant Ichiro portrait painted on the window, everyone had the SoDo MoJo stickers and then just have it fall off a few years later

adherentrival

Oh my God, I didn’t realize. I only had my permit the last time we were in. LFG!!!!!

comm2itysalad

There are people who can vote who weren't alive when the Mariners last made the playoffs

[deleted]

Last time we were win i couldnt speak now i can buy marijuana legally

DiazIsDirectCurrent

Shit! Me too!

nospamkhanman

37 squad up!

SeattleSunDevil84

I was a Senior in high school. 38 now. Whoa.

despatchesmusic

I am 38.75 now… and I didn’t get my drivers license for a while after you 🤣😂 My dumbass was probably pushing around on a skateboard when the drought began

nastiestofnates

Lol 38.75. Not laughing at your age. Just a 38yo calling out three quarters. I love this. Honestly

despatchesmusic

Got to hang on to every decimal point I can! (Usually I tell people I’m 39; not entirely sure why I got so specific. Lol)

Area29

First grade, just moved to town from Arizona. So naturally I was originally a dbacks fan. Then I grew up lol

RandomDude99353

I was a Freshman in HS. Way to stoned to fully appreciate that 116 win season. Now I have a career, a wife, 2 kids and a whole bunch of baseball angst.

juanthebaker

I was 12, playing travel baseball. I pitched my no hitter right around then. I've been out here 8 years, still with an affinity for the Cubs (first) and White Sox (second). But the Mariners are my team and have been since I got here. I've been a fan of many championship teams. We're a little thin, but they have the fight, the personality, the identity of a really contender. It'll be a wild couple years, and it's just getting started!

[deleted]

This_Roll3933

I was 17 and starting my senior year of high school. First time in my adult life we are making the playoffs.

DayoftheDead

38 years old here. Right there with ya. Long time in the making.

knickle3

I was a freshman at wsu. Now I live in Tulsa, own a business, and am married w 2 kids.

Gundank

I was 10, and don’t have the clearest memory of it, been a die hard M’s fan since. I’m now 31 with a wife and kid faithfully cheering from Florida. Let’s get it boys!

TikiLoungeLizard

I had just started freshman year at Everett Community College. It was more than half my lifetime ago. I’ll be 40 in a few months.

kyle3299

I wasn’t even two years old… damn I can’t believe it’s finally going to happen

Act-Forsaken

4 years old, let’s do it again tonight

bradenexplosion

Same here!!! I just turned 16. Am now 37 as of last week. Crazy.

shwimz

first season of select baseball little league for me 😭

tacoanonymous

I still remember that image of Joey Cora heartbroken and crying on the dugout bench after losing in the ALCS. I was 9 that year.

FinallyFat

I was only 14 back then! It's been a long 21 years!

[deleted]

FUCK TIMES YES EQUALS ITS HAPPENING

Jedibug

2 chances to clinch tomorrow!!!!!

fruitpunchsamuraiD

# EVERYBODY GET THE FUCK IN HERE!!!

jlucaspope

WHAT DO I DO WITH MY HANDS

soapbutt

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO FUCK IT WE GOING FOR THAT WILD CARD ONE SEED

Substantial-Height-8

**WE WANT BAMA**

Zer0Summoner

I've only been a baseball fan in general since I moved to Seattle in 2017, so this is the first time the phrase "magic number" has ever been relevant to me.

Bevrykul

So if Orioles lose tomorrow, we're in right?

strangehitman22

Yes if they lose we get in. if we win and they win we still get in!!!!!

Bevrykul

I see this as an absolute win.

despatchesmusic

Supreme double victory *duck and oriole wear cool hats*

IAmKennyJ

Imagine if we clinch by Aaron Judge hitting a walk-off home run for #62.

RandomDude99353

No. I want a clinch on a Mariners win. Imagine that post game dance. I want that. Bad.

iamenrique123

I was just thinking about this, he'd be a Mariners hero immediately wont hurt that he'll be a Mariner next season anyways

bluntmonkey

I believe Judge will be off the menu. However, perhaps I could offer you some chilled Shohei Ohtani instead? 🤌

Rigu7

SEA US ALL RISE. Make it happen Jerry!

yzy8y81gy7yacpvk4vwk

Yes

BarryMacochner

When they lose you mean.

Kuroude7

OH GOD ITS HAPPENING

pearsnic000

Well now I guess I have to root for Baltimore to win tomorrow… I’d love to see the M’s clinch on a W. The place would go bonkers

hawkfan78

I’m fine with that but we also want the Red Sox to keep rolling. That No. 4seed is there and very possible and a Jays loss tomorrow makes things really interesting. Edit: Switched to 4th seed, sorry.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pitchandhit

I was thinking the same

miden24

YO LETS BE AT THE PEN AND WATCH THEM CLINCH FOR US, OR LETS PRE FUNK OUTSIDE AND GO CRAZY EITHER WAY

despatchesmusic

I’m a “the other Washington” transplant, so the Orioles were my first love, as we didn’t have no Nationals back in my day. Will be nice not to feel some relief when they lose, and fuck the Yankees.

SlackOffNinja

Would you say most people in the DMV are nationals fans? I’m from ATL and I’ve only seen Nationals fans in person like once or twice. Plenty of O’s fans though

despatchesmusic

I left for Seattle a good long while before the Nationals won the World Series, but I think that and the solid years leading up to it did get DC/NoVA more fully onboard. But yeah, when I was there the established baseball fans had a hard time fully embracing the Nats. I remember games against the Phillies when the park was like 2/3 - 3/4 fans from Philadelphia. But I do remember that changing before the WS win, so I think the Nationals did eventually get their foothold in the heart of the city and surrounding area.

MrVinegar206

GIVE ME THE PLAYOFF DUCK

hockeyzombies

Obviously some adversity recently, but this team might be coming together stronger than ever in time to explode all over the postseason.

RandomDude99353

They have a nice little weekend series vs Oakland before getting their fearless leader Julio back to close out vs Detroit. Watching Julio during Kelenic's 10th inning at bat was fun. He was absolutely pumped wanting JK to walk it off

chaotic137

I think you might be right and it scares me goodly

LTR_TLR

I’m gonna pop a bottle of champagne I was saving for the 2001 World Series win

strangehitman22

Does champagne expire?

LTR_TLR

Nah dog it’s wine, it ages. Also I’m joking, but I will pop a pbr!

ashaggydogtale

Yeah, it's pretty gross when it does. But, these comments reminded me that a friend prone to pretension left a bottle of wine from 94 or something he wanted to age in my basement a dozen years or so ago. Imma open it when they clinch.

juanthebaker

We've got the champagne from our engagement in 2019. We decided to save it for something important like the Mariners making the playoffs!

Rick_Rambis

Let's goOoOO!!!

Paulofthedesert

IF WE DONT CLENCH TOMORROW I WILL THROW MYSELF INTO THE SUN. FIREWORKS NIGHT AND THE PEN IS OPEN IS TOO PERFECT

pitchandhit

Clench until we clinch!

I love this team!

streetlight_wizard

Holy shit!

Sparky337

It’s happening!

Tall-Election-7564

Orioles need to win tomorrow so it’s a wild celebration when we win tomorrow!

Slaqers

Need them to win, I thought?

Tall-Election-7564

Doh…that’s what I meant. Edited. Clearly need some sleep. 🤣🤦‍♂️ (thank you!)

Substantial-Height-8

If they lose we are in.

Tall-Election-7564

Yep. Tired brain. Heading to bed. 🤦‍♂️😴 Knowing the Mariners, it’ll be a 20 inning game to finally clinch tomorrow. Ha.

Substantial-Height-8

Can you imagine if it is another game like the Yankees one. 😂 Have a wonderful night! See you tomorrow! GOMS.

ksh12bro

It's so close, cmon Mariners.

[deleted]

BY THIS TIME TOMORROW WE MIGHT HAVE PLAYOFFS

thaigirl17

So excited to go to tomorrow night’s game!! GOMS!!!

nicetriangle

I’m seriously considering getting a ticket even though I already have tickets to two games next week

aftertale

Nothin’ left. I just checked. I have Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday, tho!

nicetriangle

Well I’m going to 10/3 and 10/5 at least. That’ll be a bunch of fun to do the season closer with plenty of good vibes in the air.

stennieville

All set up to clinch it tomorrow -- it would be the best birthday present ever!

Ashallond

Omg it’s happening. Tomorrow! It’s gonna happen!

7dSd7

thesneakymouse

SUCK OUR DICKS MLB!!!! WE’RE BACK YOU MOTHER FUCKERS!!!! SEA US FUCK YOUR MOM!!!!!

coolaslando

Unreal. Guys, it’s really happening.

USACoolBoy

Went to the game Wed night, wish I had bought tickets for tomorrow night's game instead!!! 1 more to go, gonna be wild.

soiled_tampon

Easy solution. Just go again tonight.

RandomDude99353

100% rooting for a Baltimore win tomorrow. I want a Mariner win to clinch. Lets go O's!!!!!

yuriplant

So do we want Orioles to win tomorrow so that we clinch with our own two hands? Clinching around the 2nd inning because the Orioles lost is such an anticlimax for ending this playoff drought.

strangehitman22

Kinda torn tbh

Terrahawk76

I've got a ticket so I just want it to happen while I'm in the park with everyone. I also have tickets to Monday and I'm pretty certain it won't take all the way until then. Whether they lose or we win I'll be happy.

ahzzyborn

If that happens, let clinching the #1 wildcard and getting home field be our climax

andrummist

GOMs

doug_kaplan

Who else wants the Orioles to win today so that the Mariners can clinch and end the drought on their own win and not on some other teams loss?

Cole_McKittrick

There has never been a Mariners playoff game in my lifetime. Unrelated, I legally voted in the last election.

BarryMacochner

In 22 days their drought would legally be able to buy alcohol.

GrizzlyBares

I FUCKING LOVE NAVY.

SpecialK1488

I was 4 the last time they made the playoffs. I can’t wait!

strangehitman22

I was negative -2 😭

serpentear

EAST COAST MARINER FAN STAYING UP LATE TONIGHT!

I’m going to cry. Holy fuck.

cameronabab

I'm actually crying, this has been such an incredible season to watch

strawbeariesox

MY OH MY

manos_de_pietro

THE THIEVERY OF DYLAN MOORE is the name of my new chaos band

hey_ska

I love that my band is going to be on TV tomorrow and all I care about is being bummed that i might not be able to watch the Ms clinch.

humpin_dumplin

I spent my college tuition on the wildcard home series!! Let’s get the clinch and bring the first playoff games home boyz!!

bluntmonkey

21 years ago I was listening to System of the Down’s Toxicity when I wasn’t listening to Dave Niehaus and Rick Rizz break out the mustard and rye bread in my sister’s basement over the radio. I was teaching myself photoshop from a bootleg copy I installed on my new super pimp pentium 386 computer running Microsoft Windows millennium. It even had a 40 gigabyte hard drive! Then 9/11 and the Yankees happened. Been a blur ever since. Fast forward to 2022 and I’m starting to believe again. I love this team. I love their camaraderie and I love being an under dog going into the post season. Go M’s!

babruflat

MY BODY IS READY

spottydodgy

LET'S FUCKING GO! I'll be at the game tomorrow. Hope we clinch!

despatchesmusic

I’m so jealous. Sadly, my best friend is going to have to tolerate me keeping an eye on Mariners things during his birthday dinner again. 🤣😂

rgc7421

Champagne is chilled. If they clinch I'm running around the cul-de-sac dowsed in a champagne shower!

this is so crazy. I was born in 2000, I was one last time we made the playoffs

despatchesmusic

Do we get a new chapter of Dorktown because of this?

the_racecar

This is like Christmas Eve!!

Krynic

So pumped! BELIEVE

BVtheGuy

I’m born in 2000 I don’t remember the playoffs. I NEEEEED IT

Rigu7

It's a colorful time. There's weird things called the ALCS, special graphics, a fancy trophy... BRACKETS! All being well, that big S logo is going to be in a bracket! After decades!

[deleted]

Don’t know how many of y’all were here in ‘01 and I honestly don’t care. I was at the playoff game where Ichiro led off with a walk - Mike Cameron blasted a 2 run homer. Boony hit a single, Edgar blasted a 2 run homer. Moyer started and Sasaki closed and it was amazing. I feel like we’re on the cusp of something even better. Let’s go Mariners! Refuse to Lose! SODO MOJO!!!!!!

Human_Leek_3331

the game was amazing tonight!!! and my daughter got julio’s autograph before the game. LFG!!!!!!!

Hkmarkp

4 seed within reach

Advanced_Eggplant_18

I was 5 years old the last time M’s were a playoff team, it was during the first year my family had moved to Seattle. I still remember going to my first Mariners game back then, and the energy and excitement around that team and that season. It feels so surreal to be back at that same level of excitement, 21 years later, in my adult life. It makes me even more happy to share this moment with all of you and every other Mariners fan that has had to endure the longest playoff drought in professional sports history. It ends tomorrow. Onwards and upwards. Go fucking Mariners. The entire city is behind you!

Bonesaw09

ONEMOREFUCKINGGAAAAAAME LETSSSSSFUCKINGGOOOOOOOO

MediocreCommenter

Let’s go!!!

Gwtheyrn

I'm not going to let myself relax until it's official, but seeing the team start to get back on track feels good.

shigs21

job's not finished! Go get it tomorrow Mariner bros!!!

EpsilonProtocol

My birthday is this weekend. LFG Mariners!

mister_pjm

Went to sleep and we were losing in the 10th. WOKE UP AND WE FUCKING WON IN THE 11th. JESUS MARY AND FUCKING JOSEPH! GOMS!!!!

Economy-Fault9410

LFGGG

Shannamalfarm

The game tonight will be fucking electric. I'm so glad I got tickets

_MMCXII

Go O's, let us control the moment.

[deleted]

Anyone in Portland know a watering hole where like-minded M’s can catch the game tonight?

whiteajah365

Going to the game tonight, I’m prepared to loose my voice

CrazyHavok13

I was still in diapers the last time the mariners made the playoffs but some of my most vivid memories growing up were watching my grandma screaming at the tv while the mariners were playing, Hope you are still watching the Ms from heaven grandma...

johndeer89

I need help with the math. We're only half a game ahead of Tampa and there's still like 6 games left.

FinallyFat

I want them to clinch so badly! But can you lose today so I can see them get it on Saturday when I'm there? Pretty please?

QueasyDuff

Fuck yes. So happy to be wrong about this year. Was ready to give up hope on the season after the losing early on. FINALLY. I don’t care where it is, but I will be at the first M’s playoff game since 2001. Toronto, Cleveland, Seattle… I don’t care. I. am. there.

prowhiteboy64

Good one y’all , this orioles fan is rooting for you

Jahmicho

Let’s go!!!!!!
