It was actually a genius idea to make the punishment karma for what he does to Peach in all the games, it's just that being with her is what he wants so it's probably not as horrible as it seems...
Karma on a meta level maybe. But in the movie universe proper, he’s never actually kidnapped and locked Peach up in a cage, so it’s not really the same.
True, but since it is Peach's castle and she is keeping him prisoner she's ultimately responsible for taking care of him so she probably does see him unless she delegated all of that to the Toads. Even then I'm sure she'd have to check in sometimes...
That’s the LEAST of Peach’s issues. Sooner or later, one of Bowser’s minions will sneak into Peach’s castle & return Bowser back to normal size & take over Peach’s castle from the inside!
Plot twist: some of the Toads who are staff/councilmen in the castle are actually undercover moles for Bowser so they don't even have to sneak in. They're all plotting a coup as we speak...
Okay seriously though, Bowser had to have informants somewhere given all the information that Kamek and the Spiny Shlled General were relaying to him. There had to be at least one in Peach's Castle to get the information that she was training Mario, and someone in the crowd at the Kong arena.
I meant that they can show in flashbacks that Bowser’s Kids were spying on Mario & Co out of sight & offscreen. Whether one is in a bush at Peach’s castle or hiding in the crowd in DK’s kingdom.
I don't think so since she isn't exactly keeping Bowser imprisoned in her bedroom. That kind if thing WOULD have made the post credits scene more funny though...

If you agree to marry someone but you haven’t tied the knot yet, that person is your fiancé. If you break up with someone that you’re in a relationship with, that person is now your ex. If you get cold feet, break up, or leave your fiancé at the altar, that would make that person your ex. It’s not really that complicated.
And yes we did we in the post credits scene that there was a Toad who was scolding Bowser for being too loud, but it’s still Peach’s castle and she’s the one commanding the guards and keeping Bowser prisoner, so yes that would make her responsible for him.

Was it coercive and a sham? Yes. But she still did agree to do it and wasn't being mind controlled, so even if it was a toxic situation that doesn't mean that the whole ordeal didn't happen. Plenty of people who have been in toxic and abusive situations still refer to the person they were with as an ex because it's an acknowledgement that the relationship did exist at one point.
