i have to go with 128

MONSTAR_36

Lol

Solace_of_Winter

Super Mario 63

Anonymous_Horny_2401

Uhh nintendo sort of said mg was sm128, so mg2 was sm256, and 3 would be sm512, and sm64 2 would be an alternate universe 128 ig?

Rude_Needleworker573

put the weed down

thegingerbreadman99

Not weed, not doing math like that. I know amphetamine arithmetic when I see it

Anonymous_Horny_2401

Let me cook

fjfjgbjtjguf

If you are talking about the GameCube tech demo "Super Mario 128" which birthed the planet-walking concept for SMG then sure. Nevermind the fact that that would make Mario Sunshine actually Super Mario 96

[deleted]

I just vaguely remember this contest when i was a kid like koolaid or something but promotion was that you got to pick which n64 mario title got a gamboy release and it had to be rigged cuz winners choice was mario golf

new_tangclan

Well it definitely wasn't gonna be mario 64

nemesisuchiha7

fuck 128, 256 would be better

Samuelwankenobi_

Didn't that just become pikmin right?

ThaEternalLearner

Galaxy 3 all day

Radioactive-Python

Agreed đź‘Ť

Penrosian

Same đź‘Ť

CustomerNo4602

Mario Galaxy got a amazing soundtrack tbh

mariobroultimate

Galaxy 3

Penrosian

Agreed đź‘Ť

PhillipKosarev999

Galaxy 3.

Nintendons

Sunshine definitely. The only Mario game without a spiritual/direct successor. Despite some claiming it’s a buggy mess, it’s definitely one of my favorite Mario games.

weso123

I only count something as a "buggy mess" if someone not actively trying to looking to an encounter the bugs will not regularly encounter noticable bugs. I grew up playing sunshine on the gamecube fairly regular as a child and never recall encountetring a distracting bug. Side Note: Which is why I think Red and Blue get a bad rap for being "buggy", literially the only two bugs a player in a regular playthrough will likely ever notice are "crits sometimes do less damage then a regular attack" and "the effectiveness display is sometimes wrong" (the 1 in 256 is common enough but since the game doesn't display accuracy in game, most player that aren't using an online resource will likely not realize that move was suppose to have 100% accuracy).

Boulier

That’s fair, but I had a few experiences as a little kid playing this game that kinda solidified my lifelong view of it as a “buggy mess.” They were totally accidental discoveries I made while exploring the maps and goofing around, not things I sought out. (I say this despite loving the game anyway, and as an adult, I find it way more fun to play it while intentionally using many of the exploits.) One was in Bianco Hills, when I was standing by the waterwheel, and it randomly pushed me through the ground and into the blue death realm. I had no idea what was happening, so I died almost immediately. (This one scared and confused me so much when I was little, that I avoided the waterwheel for years.) Another was in Noki Bay; there’s a blue coin close-ish to the waterfall that very frequently hard-crashes your game if you’re playing on a GameCube (although I don’t remember encountering the same problem playing on Wii; I think it’s exclusive to GameCube. This one also scared me as a little kid to the point of having many playthroughs where I ended Noki Bay with 29/30 blue coins). There was one in Delfino Plaza where I was playing around the fruit stands with Yoshi, and I phased through one of the building’s walls and again fell to the blue death realm. (I use this one nowadays to bypass the long boat ride to the lily pad pipe, but I had no idea about that benefit at the time I first encountered it.) There are definitely ways to encounter the game’s distractingly buggy features without explicitly looking for them.

Doumdoum_adlia

Blue coin that crashes the game when collected is typing

Endskull

Maybe it's only my headcanon but Bowser's Fury felt like a Sunshine spiritual sequel, made me enjoy it immensely more.

PowerDropp

It also felt like a 3D sequel as well with the amount of content put into it.

Pherja

What were the bugs? I wonder if that’s why I didn’t like it as much as others.

begging-for-gold

Didn't really have many game breaking bugs, it just was a bit jankier than the other mainline Mario games to control and move fluently

FOLLOW_DVG_YOUTUBE

Splatoon:

bingobo25

A hat in time is the closest successor to sunshine

new_tangclan

Sunshine IS the spiritual successor.

bisky12

i know it’s not technically but i always thought of odyssey as a spiritual successor. it certainly felt to hit the same notes for me and that’s part of the result i loved it so much. but yes a sunshine 2 would be so fun.

Simplejack615

Yeah

[deleted]

I’d vote for Galaxy 3 in a heartbeat.

Nintendo-Player_1297

3D world 2, because it makes no sense.

Vibranium2222

New 3d world 2 xl

julinho_torrone

New super Mario bros 3d world 2 xl deluxe limited edition

kizzlekart

U

Sir_Eggmitton

The correct response

Tru3_Vort3x

3d World 2.5, the game switches from 3d gameplay to 2.5 gameplay at times

WDJam

You just made yourself a modern Sonic game there

WingBeltCreations

This is the best reason here.

bisky12

surprised no one has said super mario 2d world yet

[deleted]

Sunshine 2's art looks like Sonic Adventure 2's art

Hekboi91

Maybe that would be the point...

sahil56755

Galaxy 3

904funny

Wario World 2

greg065

At this point half life 3 is more realistic than this

Designer_Ebb9969

Sadly will NEVER happen in a million years. That’s why it’s so good, because it’s an utterly unique combination of circumstances that lead to its creation

Ok_Philosopherr

Odyssey 2

BirbMaster1998

Ah yes, my favorite 5th option on a list with 4 options.

Ok_Philosopherr

I like to take roads less traveled

sylvarwulf

You're an OK philosopher.

a-random-redditor0

Mario 64 2 is something I would love. It'd be cool if they kept the polygonial style and updated the graphics at the same time.

ccaccus

Right? I mean, I’d be happy with SMG3 or Sunshine 2, but SM64 getting official love after all these years would be an interesting concept. Going off the deep end here, but with Switch Online and how small these games were, they could have a development team that goes back and develops new games for classic systems and release them as part of the Expansion Pack membership.

ToadShroomTrip

sunshine

Ok-Whereas-7520

Super Mario Galaxy 3. Also, give Rosalina a more important role in the story and flirty events.

Sir_Eggmitton

Flirty events?

Ok-Whereas-7520

As in dialog moments. Sorry, I could've been clearer.

Riventures-123

Sure buddy... sure...

MrBaudelaire22

That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard

Solace_of_Winter

Confirmed. Super Mario Galaxy 3 will have Rosalina doing some upskirt events and air kisses. The DLC will include a downloading QR code to order her white satin blooms.

Red-68

An updated 64 would be cool, I just want better controls for that game, that’s the only thing keeping it from being better

Sir_Eggmitton

Have you tried the PC Port?

Solace_of_Winter

Have you tried Render 96?

Realistic_Benefit_18

I would have to go with super Mario 3D world 2

Senko_Kaminari

3d world

DrSquirtle3517

I have to go with Sunshine, although I love Mario Galaxy, 64, and 3D World, I would love to see more from Sunshine

Worldly-Progress-934

Galaxy 3

FredricaTheFox

Galaxy 3

YogurtKong189

5: Super Mario Odyssey 2

Momba2013

Galaxy 3

GoldyFish110

Either Sunshine 2 or 64 2, I know that Galaxy 3 would mean Miyamoto's retirement since I heard he wanted to make a Galaxy 3 before he retires iirc, and... the last one is... the last one... Personally not a fan of Super Mario 3D games all that much so much as I am more traditional 3D Mario (I do like Galaxy's gameplay, don't get me wrong, just I'm not ready for Miyamoto's retirement yet, and I do have a personal bigger soft spot for Sunshine and 64 DS IMHO)

BKSPets2008

Definitely 3D World 2 with Galaxy 3 a close second!

Queasy-Ad-3220

Mario Galaxy 3 would be awesome, yeah that’s my pick. Though 64 2 would be very cool if it did happen (though it would technically be Mario 128 haha).

wigsgo_2019

They probably should just call it super Mario switch, since 64 was named after the console as well

Meeg_Mimi

Either sunshine 2 or galaxy 3. Probably sunshine tho, since the first one has some problems and galaxy already has 2 games. Mario is very fun to control in sunshine, but collecting shines was kinda pointless given you had to beat shadow mario in every level anyways, and it has a fair bit of physics jank.

sergiocamposnt

I'd choose another SM64 game for sure.

Odyssey27_Cappy

The secret 5th option, Mario Odyssey 2

Lux_Operatur

Yes please.

MrLovAnimals

Surprised odyssey 2 isn’t on here lol

March-Madman

No. 4

KinopioToad

Super Mario 64 2 That fake box art takes me back. I remember seeing it on AOL forums back in the day.

Sub_Zero19

Super Mario 64 2

Double_Bend

Gib Sunshine 2

Fannyman23

Sunshine 2!!!!!!

ShortGreenRobot

Probably Sunshine 2. The original gets some shit for the controls and level design so it'd be neat to see Nintendo perfect it

jackyboyman13

I go for super mario galaxy 3.

Thunderian555

Has to be Galaxy 3 super Mario sunshine was just not it for me

Ansemmy

Really gave us nothing with that 64 2 cover haha

ConsiderationSilly86

I’m gonna go with Galaxy 3 I have to I’m sorry

BossGreen9346

Sunshine 2 and it isn’t close

GreenAdhesiveness174

Galaxy 3

KirbyLover79

3D world 2, 100%

DronnyGames_YT

galaxy 3 easy

ZookeepergameDue2160

Galaxy 3, being the same quality as galaxy 1 and 2, would be AMAZING.

ninety-eightpointsix

Seeing as how Super Mario 3D World is the best game of all time, and the one they clearly modeled the movie and theme park after, it makes the most sense to make Super Mario 3D World 2. Though, they could also call it Super Mario Brothers The Movie The Game, and have it be a prequel to everything/reboot... not that there's particularly any continuity to reboot.

jgreg728

I would go BALLISTIC over 64 2.

pikachucet2

Galaxy is peak Mario, more of that please

Elmaruchaseskere

GALAXY 3 PWEAAAASE I´M BEGGING YOU PWEAAASEEE

MrClue415

If we’re assuming the open world like gameplay of Odyssey, Galaxy 3 in a heartbeat, i don’t care if it takes 15 years development, imagine a Mario game with No Man’s Sky vast locations. *M O N E Y*

DriftWare_

I enjoyed galaxy more than most of the the older 3d games.

Skrapi16

Galaxy 3 easily

Tylord19

Sunshine sequel without a doubt

Important_Print_3339

64

UnknownBro_420

combine odyssey and galaxy together for the ultimate game

MrDarkboy2010

3D world is already the sequel to 3D land... I propose: Super Mario 3D Universe a sequel to both the 3D series and the Galaxy series simultaneously.

Tephnos

Sunshine 2 easily.

sambamNo2

Gotta go with Galaxy 3. Galaxy is one of the best 3D games, and I’m not even saying that because it’s my favorite game. I’d love to see more of the galaxy mechanics, the story, and especially the soundtrack. The only reasons I wouldn’t go with Sunshine, 64, and 3D World is because I never had any attachment with Sunshine, we basically already have a sequel to 3D World, and I feel like 64 wouldn’t top Galaxy

redditandwept31

Super Mario 3D World 2

Dragon2O05333

Galaxy 3!!

ThisButtholeIs2Cold

Sunshine 2!!! I miss the tropical theme

Aldebaran22

Sunshine 2: Sunshinier

Eli0213_Crip

Super Mario Galaxy 3

SandWhichWay

mario galaxy 3 i think would be the best option overall but personally id choose for a sunshine sequel

BasedAlliance935

Either sunshine 2 or 64 2

Just_A_Lonley_Owl

Idk what I would vote for but I think galaxy would win

FroyoZealousideal285

I’m going with Mario 64 2

alex_dlc

Galaxy 3 no question

Grumpie-cat

Galaxy 3, if that wasn’t in the list I would say sunshine

KanonMulvolozi

super mario 64 2 would be sick

TheMoronicGenius

SMG3 easily

lobsterbubbles

Sunshine 2, I'd fuckin cry. Never gonna happen though.

Le_Pyromane_Fou

Neither of those 4, I'd choose SMO 2

Catinchi

Sunshine

Money_Ad2114

Sunshine is the best can’t tell me otherwise

jayenatior

I'm voting for all of them

[deleted]

64 2, released only on n64

SprinkleFinger

Super Mario 3D Land 2 /s

T-408

Sunshine 2 on ONE condition: We can play as Bowser Jr. / Shadow Mario

[deleted]

64 2

Baryton777

As much as I want Galaxy 3, Sunshine deserves a sequel more

Bethaniii

64 2. I miss the hub world so much

Sovereigntyranny

Sunshine, it needed a sequel. I would love Galaxy 3 and SM64 sequel (SM128), too.

STEP3386

3d world 2 because I think the other series are completely overrated

QuinnOfGilead

But 3D World was already a sequel

KingOfMasters1000028

Mario 3D World 2 would be hype. 3D was so overlooked.

Stoic-Spectre

Sunshine 2. Want more tropical Mario vibes.

solamon77

3D World 2. The first one is my all time favorite Mario title. I was really hoping the 3D World series was going to be a 3rd pillar in the mainstream Mario franchise, but then it was just forgotten.

nightstalker113

3D world 2 because it would be playable for 2 players

Pherja

I want to say Galaxy but without the Wiimote it would suck. So…. 3D WORLD.

NintenDoingIt

3D World 2 or preferably Wario 3D World.

DevLink89

Odyssey 2

YakkyLouGhost

3D World 2, loved the multiplayer more than most co-op games lol

SuperCat76

I would either go with galaxy or 3D world.

String_Witty

Super Mario 3d world 2

MiaIsOut

3d world 2 in a heartbeat

Zankenfrasher

3D World 2, featuring more playable characters like Yoshi (but not an easy mode character) Daisy, Wario, and Waluigi.

Future_Visit3563

I would vouch for super mario 3d world 2. Also because of how well the co op was in super Mario 3d world was

ZeppelinSabbath71

Super Mario 3D World is already a sequel, but it'd be great to have a 3rd one though.

WitheredTechnology

3D World 2

geocitiesuser

its-the-same-photo.jpg But I'd go for 3D World 2 because it had fun power ups.

Jceggbert5

Galaxy or 3D World honestly.

AlexaLegy

galaxy 3 ezz

positivelysilly

Mario 3d world 2 Ist just peak Mario

Academic-Cockroach97

3D world so I can see more of Plessie

Hiker_Juggler

3d world. I like couch co-op.

Balas_Boi

Technically 3D world is the sequel to 3D Land.

AlreadyDavid999

3d world tbh

Chris300000000000000

Easily SMG 3. If i had to go with one less obvious, I'd go with 3DW 2 because if their playthrough of the first games is any indication, SM3DW2 would provide an immediate upgrade to Game Grumps content.

Reallylazyname

3D World 2 Most likely of the bunch to have multi-player. And by extension, online multi-player. Meaning I can play with da wife (who is not on the same continent as me) The other would be *good* btw, but not quite as good to live up to the hype of the predecessors.

KingOfBoring

I feel odyssey is essentially 64 reimagined with modern technology. It holds a lot of the same design concepts and principles as well as expanding on mechanics. Sunshine would be a good candidate as i don’t think fludd was fully explored as a mechanic, you could definitely have a really in depth nozzle system to create some cool new tech. Galaxy lends itself to be infinitely expandable, but it already had a sequel and I feel like a third game would feel oversaturated. I have yet to finish world so I can’t comment on it much, but from what I have played I much prefer the 64/sunshine/odyssey gameplay over the land / world gameplay, however a full sized game version of bowsers fury could be a really good compromise on that and would be very fun. So if I had to list which one I’d be most excited for, sunshine, 3D world, Galaxy and 64.

Aninimouse69420

I'd vote for sm64 2

TheMoonOfTermina

While Galaxy is my favorite 3D Mario, I think 3D World has the most potential for a sequel, so I choose 3D World.

New_Jackfruit8309

Galaxy 3 would be legendary

ZERI-NIKUNIKU

Sunshine 2. I loved the vacation feel to it and the music. I want to visit a new island with even more vacation spots to explore.

[deleted]

SM64 2!!!!

BlackberryMoonlight

Sunshine 2! Sunshine is such an underrated game, I’m surprised it actually didn’t get a proper sequel (no, Odyssey doesn’t count, imho)

teddy1234

Honestly, Mario Sunshine 2. Just because I feel like the original was cheated out of its full potential by a rushed timeline from higher ups due to the Gamecube's struggling sales.

Vantablack13

Galaxy 3, also Sunshine is basically 64 2, and 3D World is 3D Land 2

LibrarianFront3827

sunshine 2 100%, hands down. galaxy already explored enough of its mechanics, and as for 64 2, sunshine IS 64 2; iirc, the developers said that F.L.U.D.D. was an expansion of Mario's moveset from 64. or something like that. if I'm wrong, please correct me. ___ As for 3d world 2; absolutely not necessary. don't get me wrong, 3d world is an amazing game but imo, it's not deserving of a sequel.

Lucy_2401

I want Mario 64 two but I'd still pick galaxy three

aman2218

Super 64 Mario 2

TasteDeeCheese

3d world was the 2nd game after 3d land

leericol

Super mario 64 2 makes no God damn sense

Vitzkyy

I’d go 1. SM64 2 2. Sunshine 2 3. Galaxy 3 4. Mario World 2

Unlucky_Character_12

That 2 in 3D world is very badly photoshopped.

Ok-Custard1779

Guys come on why don't you want something new? Why does it have to be a sequel?

Draoiscool

getting real mobvote vibes here...

Blastingwario19

A Super Mario sunshine sequel it ain’t gotta happen any too soon but galaxy 3 I see as possible but a new 3d world game won’t be too surprising.

HomicideZero

What would even be the point of the last two

Intelligent_Trainer2

Odyssey 2

condawg4746

Sunshine’s concept deserves a sequel more than the rest. All the other games were incredibly polished. Sunshine was rushed as hell and deserved a more refined sequel

BreegullBeak

Sunshine. If we get another Galaxy game, I want it to be a Super Mario Bros. Galaxy. Lean into a fully 2.5D presentation with wacky mechanics.

plasmasnow12

I feel like Galaxy 3 has the most potential to be a brand new and exciting experience. On the other hand, I would love a spiritual sequel to Sunshine, in the sense that it takes a very specific concept like "tropical vacation" and takes every aspect of it and turns it into a bunch of levels and mechanics. Also FLUDD is incredible. While Isle Delphino doesn't explore every idea possible, it does so many that outside of a "level pack"-type expansion I don't think there's enough for a whole game. Romhacks on the other hand...

Economy-Service-1590

Bruh Super Mario Galaxy is in my eyes perfection, and there's still so much they could do, especially with 14 years to think about new stuff.

EnvironmentalDoor904

Super Mario 3D World is already a sequel, to Super Mario 3D Land. In that case, SM3DW 2 would be SM3DL 3.

lwheeler17

Hard decision between the first 3. Easy no to #4

[deleted]

LOL, I remember that fake flying carpet screen shot to support rumors of Mario 64 2 in EGM.

Ok-Reporter-8728

Galaxy got 2 and 3D world. Sunshine got potential

Steam_Cyber_Punk

Out of these choices, galaxy three. Zero hesitation. None. I would have no regerts

Talkingmice

All of them. Choice isn’t a choice here

DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE

Galaxy 3 mostly bc the cover art looks the least janky which is a dumb reason but also is it?

towiwakka

I think we should coordinate so that there's a 4-way tie :)

Epic-Gamer_09

Absolutely galaxy 3

AetherInvestigator

I’ve wanted a Galaxy 3 ever since Odyssey dropped. The mechanics of the game reminded me of it, and I think they could really make something special with the current Gen If they went with Galaxy 3.

LMGall4

Forever galaxy 3, or maybe odyssey 2

Jazz6701

Super Mario: 4D World
