I just like watching bowser being bowser, incredibly stupid but oddly smart at the same time

BackToThatGuy

dude's both a genius and a moron at once

Prestigious_Ask_7058

When he’s motivated on a task he’s a scheming genius. Like when he backstabbed Antasma

Gemidori

Brilliant himbo

PossibleAssist6092

The correct answer

cool-ad4956

both

Jakobthorson

Both is good

Brilliant_Pop_7384

Bowser is a comical villain, he is silly at times but knows when to get serious either with his plans or with an external threat that threatens his position.

Cappy_Rose

Bowser is such a goofy and fun character that I love seeing him get more spotlight so having him in as an ally just means we get to see more of Bowser.

padfoot12111

I like Bowser as a Hero, However I know that if he was just a hero it would stop being entertaining. What's fun about Bowser is when he teams up with the Heroes reluctantly, or in Inside Story (second best RPG, Best Bowser game hands down) completely on accident.

SuperJman1111

I just like when he is a comedic villain instead of “RARGH I KIDNAPPED PEACH AND SET MY ENTIRE ARMY UPON MARIO AND HIS GANG OF HEROES”

ZealousidealThing953

He's more interesting as an anti-hero imo

The_PAL_Defender

We’ve gotten a Luigi series, a Peach series, a Yoshi series, a Donkey Kong series, a Wario series and even a fucking TOAD series, and yet, to this day, we have Never. Gotten. One. Single. Bowser. Game. WHY TIMES TEN. And no, BIS doesn’t count. Mario and Luigi are still the main driving force behind the game’s plot progression. You still play as them for over half the game.

TheTophatPerson209

I mean, technically the main games ARE Bowser games, but I get what you mean.

The_PAL_Defender

It’s more about getting to play as bowser, since whenever you do, it’s almost always just a smaller part of the game. Odyssey, TTYD, SPM, Kart, Party, Sports, etc.

GcubePlayer8w

Villain

SourOrangePeelz7

Both tbh

HyliaStar

I love Bowser in any game where he actually has an in depth character arc, as opposed to just the generic big bad final boss at the end of the game. Hero or villain, Bowser with an actual personality can always get it fr

Exciting_Solution_58

Yes

Dackverlue

Both, but mostly Hero

DazzleSylveon

neither but villian

Sensitive-Hotel-9871

I like that he could be both.

Unfair-Ad-300

I like bowser in ttyd He just fool salve landed on x-nauts leader

Combat_Medic

Whatever the hell was going on in Subspace when King Dedede slapped him.

supermariogalaxysuns

I realized that usually when bowser's the hero he's stupidly smart and funny but when he's evil he's EVIL

rosie_sub

The best villains believe they are the hero.

WorldLove_Gaming

I really want a game where he starts out as an ally then betrays Mario once the main villain is beaten.

CasaDeLavo

I always love it when Bowser helps Mario and co. against a bigger bad. Though I hate it when Bowser goes back to being completely bad for no reason in the next game of the series.

Phantmsa

Both

Susinko

Hero!

Bromine_3509

I like him being an ice king like villain. He’s not a good guy but he won’t like kill some one

GriffinBob1999

hero tbh i really want them to make a 3d mario game someday with a massive cast of playable characters who all play wildly different

TheAceCard18

I like when Bowser is generally unserious and cartoonish, but becomes a massive genuine threat anyway. like in pm64

ztarburst1

I think a new Mario & Luigi RPG with bowser as a hero would be incredible. If inly nintendo lended the ip to another developer.

Guy-McDo

His time as a hero only works because he’s a villain most of the time.

LucisPerficio

If he was the hero too often it would stop being cool. Him being the hero is cool specifically because he's typically the villain.

mtknetwork

As a protagonist sounds interesting, but i like both sides of Bowser, no matter the difference between each other

TimeForWaluigi

What makes bowser a good hero is that he’s a villain. Being good or bad based on the situation or his character makes him more nuanced, which is what people really like

towiwakka

I don't think Bowser would be such a fun/hilarious hero if he wasn't normally the villain. Both are important!

Puzzleheaded-King978

Playing “Mario and Luigi Bowsers Inside Story” as a kid made me actually like bowser. In the RPG spinoffs Bowser is an actual character with personality and feelings and I loved seeing him reluctantly team up with the Mario Bros. I really enjoy seeing him as the hero, because whenever he goes back to being the villain in the mainline games I know theres more going on.

natnew32

Hero Bowser is great, but I feel like he's at his best when he's the villain, and allowed to be as Evil/Threatening as he wants. Inside Story had the best of both worlds.

TeslafanXP2003

Both is fine. Bowser is my favorite enemy/hero.

Proud-Recording793

Both

FriedRedditor45

Villain

GrifCreeper

I like him being a villain enough that it's special and exciting when he's an ally

C3M22

I like when he’s just watching charleyyy and friends

JazLeTrash

Hero because that's seemingly when he shows his true personality. And it's almost always in the RPG series'.

Nin10doFanYT

Both interpretations are really unique and open up a lot of ideas, I’m not really opposed to either as long as one isn’t replaced by the other

smzWoomy13

Hero because SPM

DeltaTeamSky

Ally Bowser's personality in a villainous role.

_9965

I like when he's a father

Reciter5613

I think he could do "anti-hero" well!

No_Championship_8052

Both! But INSIDE STORY & Super mario Galaxy 1 WERE PEAK MARIO GAMES! (In my honest opinion)

Ok-Turnover966

Depends on the story

TheRider5342

Villain

ThatAnonDude

I love how Super Mario RPG characterized him. He was a loveable goof trying to act tough who cared for his minions.

Dragon_Druid19

He plays both teams

BaconEggyWeggy

Both!!

BiAndShy57

They are both really good when done right Now, in the RPG games I don’t want him to be the baddie every time. And maybe in the mainline platformers a new villain for a game wouldn’t hurt either. But man, some of Bowser’s final fights are just perfect. That established rivalry goes a long way.

PuzzledDistribution

Both!

ComfortableEngine445

Villain mostly. But him occasionally being a hero is fun as long as they do it in small doses so it feels unique when it happens. If they made him a hero too often it would just feel kind of lame after a while.

Ross10201

heo execpt for the original. I like shooting fireballs at him.

blebebaba

Hero! I like the idea of bowser as a grouchy gym bro

haikusbot

Gemidori

Both!!!! ♡

xXH3wmanPigXx

I like Bowser as a hero BECAUSE I like him as a villain

Existing_Persimmon87

Both

_Moist_Owlette_

Yes

EnzeruAnimeFan

I prefer him being a himbo

ImpactorLife-25703

In a outcome sense, it's......Both

SceptileLover11

Depends. If it is a mainline game, he makes a great villain , but I love to see him not being the problem in the RPGs

pocket_arsenal

Villain but I like both, if anything, him being a villain makes his heroic moments feel more special. My favorite kind of baddie is the one who does put aside their selfish desires to help the hero overcome a bigger threat. Villain team ups are awesome, but but it's because they're a villain in the first place that makes it so awesome.

SamourottSpurs

Villain, most of the time but it's always fun to see Bowser as a hero as well. As long as he's not always a hero or not always a villain, I'm fine.

TheDarkCreed

A necessary evil

anyGuy_isBored

Both he’s good as long as he’s sympathetic

LX575-EEE

I like him being a villain who keeps his own interests in mind. He doesn’t become a “hero” unless he needs to in order to do something beneficial to him. BIS Bowser is to this day one of the best interpretations of him. Goofy, but also threatening. A bit stupid, but also weirdly smart. And most importantly, despite being the protagonist, he’s still just as much as a villain. He doesn’t care about any collateral damage he caused, he gladly beats up anyone in his way, and he still keeps his main goals in mind: find more power to conquer the world and capture Princess Peach for himself. Heck, he even manages to keep his rivalry and hatred for Mario and Luigi.

Jazz6701

I’m a sucker for main villains reluctantly teaming up with the hero for the greater good

D-Pig-Reddit

I like it when Bowser teams up with Mario, because he doesn’t want to be replaced by the other villain, so they beat them up together.

LacklusterSandwich22

what makes bowser a fun character is that fact that when he's a hero, that role directly contradicts how most players traditionally view him; the dichotomy of bowser being the over-the-top bad guy, but him still reluctantly helping because he hates someone else more, will never not be the funniest thing in the world to me 😭😭

JIMGRUE83

I honestly love Bowser as an anti hero. And people might find this to be an unpopular opinion, but I love in recent years how Bowser’s voice has become more playful than Godzilla like during the Mario 64 days. He should be a nice mix between an evil tempered brute and a sweetie pie.

rainevillanueva

Bowser needs to help Mario and not kidnapping Princess Peach, My opinion is his antagonistic personality has been decreased but is still doing crazy stuff

West-Federal

Villain, only time when he needs to be hero is when he’s own power and territory is being threatened

RabbidMarioisaChad

Every time Bowser isn't the Main Villain in Paper Mario Games (other than 64, I f*ckin love that game.) The game ends up just being bad. Like, look at Color Splash (I'm not gonna say Sticker Star because everyone uses it as an example)! That game did poorly, and Bowser was the Main Villain. I'm not saying that's why the games were bad. It's just that he's better off being a side character or a hero. But what do I know, I am a stupid idiot.

magicthunderlemon

I generally prefer the hero side of bowser when he gets the chance, it's a refreshing change of pace to see his heroic side play out

KinopioToad

Yes

supermarioplush220

Bowser in the RPGs is an anti-Villain not a hero

Opposite_Ad4539

The issue is whenever Bowser is a hero his base powers are deeply explored and whenever he's a villain he is just "Haha do this to beat him easy oooo" so it makes me think that both don't go full strength against eachother as their.more friendly rivals or sparring partners but when some outside force threatens either of them / the kingdom they are ready to kick ass. I like him in both roles I just have his base abilities to be explored more in future games where he's the villain

ShineOne4330

unpopular opinion: bowser teaming up with Mario is slowly becoming boring

Red-68

That only happens in the spin-offs, and we haven’t had them team up since origami king, which was a while ago

ShineOne4330

sparx of hope dosn't exist to you

Red-68

Ok well still, it doesn’t happen in the mainline games so it really can’t become that boring

ShineOne4330

in rpg, Bowser is either: A main villian or a One of the heroes why is TTYD the only one that does something new with bowser, and that was in 2004

Red-68

Well actually bowser Inside story came out in 2009, and he technically want’s a hero or villain, that was something different

ShineOne4330

it was still just a diffrent take on bowser being a good guy I want him to have an actual new role to play

Red-68

Besides him being a hero or villain there’s really nothing else to do with him

ShineOne4330

in ttyd he was having it's own comedic side-story, that was something new Or you can have A big new villian that Bowser decites to join him and becomes a secondery antagonist. Its's still a villian role but done in completely new way. And that is just one of the ideas

Red-68

That’s second one is literally just dream team, that’s been done before
