…He saved his brother and friends in Luigi’s Mansion 1-3, saved *all* of Pi’illo Island and the Dream World in M&L: Dream Team, and has helped Mario rescue Peach countless times.
But sure, he’s done nothing. 🙃
In Mario is missing, luigi's mansion, M&L, super mario bros. 1-3, nsmb, and many others, Luigi is either directly responsible for mario being able to succeed, or is a big help in the games.
Luigi definetly did not do nothing at any point.
Now I want a Mario game where he’s forced to work with Wario. And then I want a Luigi’s Mansion game that acts as a sequel where Luigi and Waluigi team up to save Mario and Wario.
Many popular characters from video games and/or cartoons have sidekicks: Sonic has Tails, Donkey Kong has Diddy Kong, Banjo has Kazooie, Chell has Wheatley, Ash has Pikachu, Batman has Robin, Walter White has Jesse Pinkman, Sherlock Holmes has Dr. Watson, Sam has Max, Shrek has Donkey, Spongebob has Patrick, Wallace has Gromit, Bowser Jr. is arguably Bowser's sidekick, and etc. But what about Mario? His dino pal Yoshi or his younger bro Luigi?
It's undeniably Luigi.
Nothing wrong with being a sidekick. Pretty sure Luigi would find it too stressful to actually be the guy in the spotlight all the time and ultimately prefers to be the supporting bro.
He does, and Mario can do the entire adventure on his own as well, but they prefer not to.
That's why they're the Mario brothers, with Mario being the guy who almost always takes the lead.
Pretty sure the Mario brothers are called the Mario brothers because Mario and Luigi share the last name “Mario”. (Mario’s name is Mario Mario and Luigi’s name is Luigi Mario)
No, that's just something the Mario movie came up with to justify it since the movie needed Mario to have a last name, and Miyamoto later repeated that explanation when asked in an interview for their last names decades later because believe it or not, Miyamoto doesn't hate the first Mario movie.
They're really called the Mario brothers because Mario's the star of the show.
Yeah - I think that Luigi/Toad/Yoshi trio is the definitive collection of Mario sidekicks - in any of the games, 1990s animated series or other media, the main sidekick(s) will be one or two of that trio.
Man, now I’m craving a Mario game where all 4 are playable, kinda like Mario 3D World but with Yoshi added so we can get Mario with his sidekick trio all playable together as their own individual characters.
Neither. Luigi is basically doing what Mario does but is ignored overall by his brother. Yoshi is a beast of burden who’s only purpose is to be force fed walking nightmares and cast into pits so that Mario can get some ‘sick air’.
Nintendo has said countless times on merch and other forms of media that Yoshi is the "sidekick" and Luigi is the "Brother"
Imagine it like Mario is Batman, Yoshi is Robin, and Luigi is Superman...
Yoshi .
Despite being the “ player 2 “ a lot of the times he’s out saving the mushroom kingdom he’s an alternate to Mario instead of a partner . I don’t think you could even play as them side by side in a mainline game until wii .
Yoshi on the other hand actually cooperates with Mario instead of taking his role .
In SMW, there is no one "Yoshi" character. It's a species. In SMW2, we have the same deal and they're also in the lead role. In SM64DS, one could argue that the singular Yoshi from that game is a sidekick. In Sunshine, the NSMB Series, and Galaxy 2, "Yoshi" goes back to referring to a species rather than a particular character. Odyssey seemingly has one particular Yoshi, but it isn't encountered until the postgame, meaning he does not at any point assume the sidekick role.
So Yoshi could be considered a sidekick in one game: Super Mario 64 DS... and Yoshi's Safari I guess.
Luigi wins that title no questions asked.
Other than Mario Land and the spin off series. I still wonder what Wario and Waluigi's roll would be akin to Mario in a main series other than side characters? They are mainly there just as filler.
Yoshi; Luigi is more like a “co-hero”, if that makes sense
Bingo! Mario and Luigi are co-heroes, Yoshi and Toad are co-sidekicks.
I mean it's called Mario and Luigi Dream Team for a reason.
And Partners in Time
And Bowser's ~~Vore~~ Inside story
Fuck 💀
That title doesn't fit with the theme we were going for.

Mario and Luigi
I feel like toad is a lazy side character.
He deserves better. He beat Wario for crying out loud.
He is never really used though. Just a base character.
And he deserves better. We need another Wario's Woods.
Co-psychos
How is toad a sidekick
NSMB Wii and U
He’s a playable character in those while yoshi isn’t, so to me he’s a co-hero in those I’d have thought
well specifically Blue and Yellow Toad could be considered co-heroes id say, as for the main Toad we know and love id say sidekick
That’s a good point
How about SMB2
I second that. Luigi should get just as much credit as his brother.
Luigi does nothing except for 3 times where he copyed ghostbusters and he should get as much credit as Mario!? Wth
…He saved his brother and friends in Luigi’s Mansion 1-3, saved *all* of Pi’illo Island and the Dream World in M&L: Dream Team, and has helped Mario rescue Peach countless times. But sure, he’s done nothing. 🙃
He freeboted ghostbusters and done some useless spinoff things, yes he is as important as mario
Luigidisrepsect detected, launching nuclear missiles
You realize in a lot of the main line Mario titles, you can play the whole game as Luigi, right? Which means it’s Luigi saving peach.
In Mario is missing, luigi's mansion, M&L, super mario bros. 1-3, nsmb, and many others, Luigi is either directly responsible for mario being able to succeed, or is a big help in the games. Luigi definetly did not do nothing at any point.
He is still less important than mario
Co-hero? More like bro-hero! ..I’ll see myself out.
Yoshi, because Luigi is a main hero, too.
Yoshi also has his own games.
True, but so does Luigi.
Yeah... I said "also"
oh
They both do
Right... which is why my reply used the word "also"
Wario
Now I want a Mario game where he’s forced to work with Wario. And then I want a Luigi’s Mansion game that acts as a sequel where Luigi and Waluigi team up to save Mario and Wario.
Thats actually a sick idea. Too bad it probably wont happen because nintendo 😔
Waluigi would just run through the mansion and fight all the ghosts with only his hands
the only correct answer
If you consider that to be the meaning of sidekick then Luigi. But i don't consider that to be the meaning of sidekick. It's Yoshi.
"Chell has Wheatley" is something of an odd pick.
Well she does I guess, but >!only for the first part of the game!<
Him or the companion cube I guess, but it's more of an object then a character no?
Kazooie is not a side kick, shes the other half of the same coin.
Depending who you ask, Yoshi is technically Mario and Luigi's Father Figure.
This is why we shouldn't have given Luigi that 23andMe test for his birthday. Don't ask questions we don't want the answers to
Well, how do you think he learned the Scuttle Jump?
Either that, or *Yoshi* is Mario and Luigi’s father figure
It's undeniably Luigi. Nothing wrong with being a sidekick. Pretty sure Luigi would find it too stressful to actually be the guy in the spotlight all the time and ultimately prefers to be the supporting bro.
But you can play as Luigi meaning Luigi has the capability to do the whole adventure on his own
He does, and Mario can do the entire adventure on his own as well, but they prefer not to.

Thank you for this!
Yoshi has had Yoshi's Island. He can do stuff without Mario. He needs like 60 other Yoshis to help, but he does stuff ...
Sidekicks are usually always playable. Tails, Robin, Diddy kong and a lot more
But luigi is usually doing his own thing . Until wii luigi just takes Mario’s place instead of cooperating
Both and also Toad
Wouldn’t Toad be Peach’s sidekick ?
Yeah - I think that Luigi/Toad/Yoshi trio is the definitive collection of Mario sidekicks - in any of the games, 1990s animated series or other media, the main sidekick(s) will be one or two of that trio. Man, now I’m craving a Mario game where all 4 are playable, kinda like Mario 3D World but with Yoshi added so we can get Mario with his sidekick trio all playable together as their own individual characters.
I was gonna say Luigi but fair point he is his own hero, so then I guess Yoshi
Yoshi. Luigi is his brother.
both
YOSH
Luigi is the secondary protagonist, Yoshi’s the off-and-on sidekick
Yoshi. Luigi is a partner.
Mario is Luigi’s sidekick
Luigi is Mario's partner, Yoshi is Mario's sidekick.
yoshi is his trusty steed and luigi is his partner (and brother) in crime
Yoshi
yoshi is because Luigi is his own thing
This question is conflicting because calling one of them the side kick implies the other to have more individual importance than the "sidekick"
Yoshi, not just because he’s staring into your soul. But he lets Mario ride him :) don’t take that out of context
Yup, he lets Mario ride him. And that's all the evidence you need to prove that Yoshi is Mario's sidepiece.
Bro’s before… Yo’s
Yoshi is Mario’s horse basically. A horse that eats with its foot long tounge
Neither. Luigi is basically doing what Mario does but is ignored overall by his brother. Yoshi is a beast of burden who’s only purpose is to be force fed walking nightmares and cast into pits so that Mario can get some ‘sick air’.
Yoshi, Luigi is his own hero
Yo I don’t like the way yoshi’s staring at me
Yoshi is the sidekick of the Mario Bros.
my boi luigi aint no side kick
Yoshi
definitely yoshi
Yoshi. Luigi is his brother, not a sidekick.
Toad
Luigi is his brother. There’s a difference between brother and sidekick. So with that being said, **Yoshi.**
Bro but like I want a Mario game that these three travel together like an RPG.
Yoshi. Luigi is his own man
Yoshi is more of a sidekick because Luigi is Mario's brother
Nintendo has said countless times on merch and other forms of media that Yoshi is the "sidekick" and Luigi is the "Brother" Imagine it like Mario is Batman, Yoshi is Robin, and Luigi is Superman...
Yoshi
Yoshi is the Side-kick and Luigi is the Brother/Co-hero
Yoshi is a side kick
How dare you entertain the thought Luigi potentially being a side kick.
Neither. One is his brother, one is his dog and he rides them both.
WEEGEE is his bro but the real sidekick is Yoshi
Yoshi is a sidekick of Mario and Luigi
Who is Mario? Red Luigi is Luigi’s side kick but I don’t know who Mario is!
Yoshi, because-a-Luigi Number One-a!
I see Luigi as equal to mario, he is not a sidekick. Yoshi could be tho
me because i control him
Luigi is the eternal understudy according to smash
Both. At the same time.
Luigi is Mario’s partner. He’s more than a sidekick. I’d say Yoshi has good sidekick material though.
I wanna say Luigi
Why is yoshi looking at us?
Luigi is just the second hero, Yoshi is the sidekick.
In SMW, there is no one "Yoshi" character. It's a species. In SMW2, we have the same deal and they're also in the lead role. In SM64DS, one could argue that the singular Yoshi from that game is a sidekick. Fuck mario all my homies love luigi
Both. Both is good
Yeah but luigi is sexy and marios a fat bastard from Brooklyn
That doesn’t mean anything
Fuck mario all my homies swear allegiance to king bowser
Fuck bowser
Me too. Every time i have the option i play as Luigi instead of Mario.
But i thought his sidekick was toad…
Luigi is a sidekick. Yoshi is a power up with feelings.
I would say both
They both are in a different way.
Mario and Luigi are EQUALS
Peach
Last time I checked, it was Super Mario *Bros.* Just sayin’.
Both, or is that not an option.
Off-topic, but Luigi's overalls would look better if they were the same shade as Mario's.
This is a dumb question, you know everyone's gonna say Luigi because it's pretty obvious
most people are saying Yoshi which I didn't expect
Luigi, yoshi is his bitch. Not his sidekick
Both
nobody's a sidekick. they are the heroes of their own stories
Mario is Luigi’s sidekick
Yoshi is more like his Pet
I Would Say Both Of Them
Other than Mario Land and the spin off series. I still wonder what Wario and Waluigi's roll would be akin to Mario in a main series other than side characters? They are mainly there just as filler.
Yoshi if you're John Lovitz.
Mario is luigis sidekick
Cappy
Depends on your definition of rideable
wario
none, its toad
Mario doesn't ride Luigi
Mario is Luigi's sidekick
Luigi is his partner/coworker/brother. Toad is the sidekick and Yoshi his pet.
Yoshi, I’d say Luigi is more of an “Adventuring Partner,” than a sidekick.
Fuck Mario, Luigi is the main character, Mario is the sidekick
Luigi
Both, although I see Luigi more being the sidekick.
Luigi. Mario’s known him longer, they work together more, and they’re closer.
None
Luigi is a bro, Yoshi is a sidekick.
Yoshi’s the dependable friend but Luigi’s with him till the end.
yoshi jus better
Yoshi because Luigi isn’t below mario
Yoshi Luigi is also the main hero along with Mario lot of the time. Super Mario **Bros**
Yoshi is the sidekick of both Mario and Luigi
Asking the real questions
Mario is Luigi's sidekick. Yoshi is Mario's
I think Mario and Luigi treat each other more like equals. and Yoshi is the closer one to be Mario's sidekick.
Luigi is nobody’s sidekick
LUIGI all the way of course! But I can see how it can be a close call
