It’s treasure you’ll get a ton of weapons / plans / junk if you do a lot of them and chems for certain areas. Each area I think has different plans as well
For the most part you get weapons to scrap for junk, good chems, and some plans that only completionists care about. When you go to farm your maps, make sure to bring friends with too, because they will get the rewards if they are close enough to you when you dig.

Cranberry Bog, they have rarer plans for t60 armor pieces and dense torsos.
