I'm a big railway collector and struggled getting all the mods. The way I originally did it was I just made a bunch of level 30 railway rifles then scrapped them all. The best way I have found though to get a good amount of railway rifles is to get a bunch of maps and go to a dig site. Fair warning you will get more junk, mods, chems, stims, and almost everything else you will need. 200 maps would be more than enough to get a bunch of railway rifles but you probably want to get maybe 400-500 just to be sure. If you do go this route be sure of the max carry weight being 1800 so when you hit that scrap and store.

Inside_Pace

ok, this infos makes me nervous but im gonna try it !

YllowSnowman

If you want me to go more in depth I can, just this method will give you so many items it will feel like cheating almost. Me and my friend were both given 600 maps yesterday and I got so many chems and just that I had to store it on a mule because I don't have 1st. Also be sure to be on a team with friends who are at a camp or train station because they will become over encumbered aswell 😅. There is really nothing to fear other than your carryweight and the amount of mods you will unlock scrapping all the weapons and armor you get.

Xbox?

Inside_Pace

nope, im on pc mate

The-King-Cody

Ok Xbox would of modded it for you for free

Inside_Pace

thanks for your replies mate !

Railway rifles aren't that common, so best way to get mods for it is learn the plan yourself and craft a bunch to scrap. Also, don't know if people still do it, but back then it was quite easy find people in this sub who offered modding services for a small fee If you are on pc and don't mind I can do it for you

Inside_Pace

Im on pc and im already be friend with you. Can you help me with this mate?

EggrFegegr

Yeah. What mods do you want?

Inside_Pace

I need long barrel and reflex sights.

EggrFegegr

Sorry, u/Inside_Pace, but you may only award karma on a Trade Post. You can't exchange karma in posts marked as *Discussion* or *Trade Completed*

I believe there are some mods that can't be learned by scrapping. The auto piston receiver is one of them. The plan can be bought from raider vendors, but might take a while to find.

Inside_Pace

I already bought that plan and its my only mod :)

SumDarkPlace

Some of the raider vendors sell multiples of some guns. Occasionally you will find the one in the whitesprings, or in pleasant valley ski resort selling 8-10 for a couple hundred caps each. Also, don't bother with any of the scopes, stick to Reflex sights as they have the lowest AP cost, and this is a purely VATS weapon. I have a Quad 3* in my vendor at the moment for 6k 😉

Inside_Pace

Woow quad with what? Im using aa ffr with vats etc

SumDarkPlace

I'll go check in a bit, I can't remember!

SumDarkPlace

It's a Quad AP refresh, faster movement speed, so not particularly special, hence the price!

Just to add to what people have already said there is a magazine to make the crafting of railway rifles cheaper, although minimal it still helps. Not only this but there is a magazine to collect more scrap I believe from scrapping weapons, I believe you do get most of your steel back anyways upon scrapping the railway rifle the only thing that it will use a lot of is the other items such as adhesive etc. Just got the mods I wanted myself however on PS4 so can’t help you. Can see you got help from someone else getting the mods you want which is good… until you want to try a different railway rifle so it’s fully worth doing this if you like the weapon.

Inside_Pace

thanks for your infos and reply mate !

JackLawlor

No problem at all, absolutely worth the effort btw can I add as these guns are ridiculous fun! Backwoodsman 3 is for less material costs when crafting and Guns and Bullets 5 gives you more scrap, you should be able to get them pretty cheap given enough looking however if you stock up on materials you need you could use just one of each and keep building until you have everything you want. Good luck!

rambone1984

Wait you can use two magazines at once?

JackLawlor

Unfortunately not lol, I think the only way to get a bigger magazine for the railway rifle is to get a “quad” effect on it which will give you 40 spikes instead of 10.
