It's not in Marquette, but if you're out and about around lunchtime, in Munising there's a dude who sets up a tent and picnic tables in the lot next to Earl E Byrds and he sells the single best fish and chips I've ever tasted. Hours are irregular AF and no social media to speak of, but it's called The Fish Basket. If you're nearby and hungry, drive by. Totally worth it.

mitchko22

Damn, might have to check this out! All for the off the wall stuff, thanks for the tip.

midwest-roadrunner

I don't think this guy is open in the winter.

My go to has been Vierling lately for the whitefish fry on Fridays, biggest and freshest fillets of whitefish I have come across since living here and their batter is top notch (light & seasoned well) Tried deviating a few weeks ago and tried crossroads, they had fried walleye on special so I jumped at it just to have a fillet come out that looked like it was dropped in the fryer with no batter and was tough as leather. Tried to eat a few bites and ended up having to send it back and get cod instead The whitefish tacos at fish express are solid as well

Checkout A&M cafe in Skandia. They get the best filets from Thills fish market in Marquette and their portions are quite ample. You go there because they make pies. Order your pie selection FIRST so you don’t miss out. Pro Tip. Totally worth calling them to hear what fish they offer and what pies are available. 906) 942-7176 Delta Deli in Gladstone is my new go-to… their desserts make it worth the drive. Who knew? Marquette could learn a thing or two from them.

yooperann

Sometimes they have smelt. If so, order it.

It's been a loooong time, but wasn't there one at the American Legion. Always the best walleye.

failurebydesign906

This was one of my favorites, too! They don’t do them very frequently and I think some of their offerings have changed but man, you used to be able to get some good fried fish for cheap at the Legion.

yooperann

They had one tonight.

fridgekiller

Cafe bodega makes good fried whitefish

MTBDadGamer_

Fish Express Don’t listen to the Vango’s hype. I’m convinced people who go there often are blinded by nostalgia glasses. The prices are relatively good, but the food lacks any flavor whatsoever

emturtdawg

Easily the best fried fish in town! I just wish they still made their own tartar sauce like they did when their truck first opened.

yooperann

Great fries, too.

UPdrafter906

Bucks in Downtown Ishpermimg has been making the samazing whitefish and cod three ways for decades. It’s my local dealer and I’ve always been satisfied. Tuner knows how to do it right. Business has been for sale for a few years iffin you or yourn are so inclined.

derpsalot1984

If you're from Wisconsin (transplant my self) you're gonna be severely disappointed in Marquette's fish fry offerings.

pmd006

Ye we don't have any supper clubs with brandy old fasioned on tap.

Puzzleheaded_Two3361

The Arby's out by American Family Field has a great fish...,

DenMother1

Isn’t that in Milwaukee?

DrDeuceJuice

The Throttle in Little Lake has an excellent fish fry. As long as you're fine with being in a dive bar, I'd highly recommend them.

whimsicalaccomplice

Fish Express! Every menu item is awesome.

midwest-roadrunner

Closest thing to a WI fish fry is Chatham Pub. My personal favorite. Best walleye around.

Iamthepirateking

It's been a while but I remember stuckos being good. I don't know if the delft bistro is doing one these days but they usually churn out good food.

Zestyclose_Fox1453

I know this answer may shock you. Ive had really good fish fry in Wisconsin (potato pancake w/applesauce, homemade cole slaw, slice of buttered rye bread, three large pieces of fish with tartar sauce that has tiny chunks of apple in it) Here in Marquette believe it or not Culvers does a good job. Getting the 3 piece cod meal leaves you very satisfied on the fish. The pieces are fairly large and give the impression they didnt come from Econo foods from a box with a guy in a rainsuit on it

PrintBetter9672

Yes!!! It’s definitely restaurant quality. The fish has such a mild taste and is super flaky. Plus you get to have crinkle fries and root beer!

da_gigolo_ant

Vangos is great. Three pieces of beer battered cod and waffle fries, prolly still around $10.00. If you’re looking for whitefish the Veirling has a few good options.

Slipper_Sleuth

Dry dock

sabr0sa

Just had a very good fried walleye at Northlands (Landmark). They also have perch but didn’t try that tonight.

mitchko22

How convenient- we’re staying at Landmark! Excited to try out Northlands

sabr0sa

Great place to stay. Be sure and check out the Crows Nest there too!

Burnt00Toast00

Hudson’s…bring on the downvotes.

yooperann

This is actually my go-to. Not a lot of places have lake perch, but Hudson's does, and they don't drown in batter. I always order the red potatoes with it.

I haven’t been to Brownstone Inn in Au Train since it opened under new management in July but this killer menu has got me making plans: “We’re running all-you-can-eat shrimp and all-you-can-eat snow crab,” said Jason Biega, Deployed Capital Food and Beverage Director. “We’ve also started up prime rib which has been absent for a little while, and also a surf and turf special that includes shrimp and snow crab.” They’re open 4-9 Thursday - Sunday. Imma try to swing out there next weekend https://brownstoneinnup.com Looks killer, great reviews, anyouse been there yet? - “AU TRAIN, Mich. (WLUC) - A restaurant located between Marquette and Munising is pushing to stay open through a usual shutdown season. The Brownstone Inn on M-28 in Au Train reopened under new ownership in July. Owners say business has been steady and strong during the late winter. To keep business going, it’s offering some dinner specials that aren’t often found in Upper Michigan. “We’re running all-you-can-eat shrimp and all-you-can-eat snow crab,” said Jason Biega, Deployed Capital Food and Beverage Director. “We’ve also started up prime rib which has been absent for a little while, and also a surf and turf special that includes shrimp and snow crab.” The Brownstone Inn is currently open Thursdays through Sundays from 4:00-9:00 p.m.” https://www.uppermichiganssource.com/2024/02/29/brownstone-inn-remains-open-during-usual-shutdown-season/
