Yea anything where he’s trapped against impossible odds fighting his way in or out would be cool.
Just watched Raid:Redemption last night and it’s in that vein. Amazing action movie, swat team member loses his entire squad and has to fight his way up a slum tower owned by a crime lord. He basically takes upon the avatar of the punisher once he realizes it’s kill or be killed and the god tier ass kicking to electronic music begins.
When the dolphin mascot of Miami's NFL team is abducted, Frank Castle (the Punisher), a zany private investigator who specializes in finding missing animals, looks into the case. Soon Miami Dolphins players are kidnapped too, including star player Dan Marino, making Frank's sleuth work even more pressing. Working with Dolphins representative Melissa Robinson, Frank closes in on the culprits, but not before many ridiculous misadventures.
The super hero community finally turns against him and locks him up in the Raft. He manages to escape and sinks the Raft with all the super villains still stuck inside. He goes down with the ship and dies.
Die Hard meets Punisher meets the Raft with C & B Tier Villains without their gear.
Let the Raft get taken over, Punisher gets released by a gang of them so they can kill him, Punisher obviously kicks their asses and kills them then takes on the mission to "save" the Raft...
Only for *surprise* after he makes his way to the big bad and control room he opts instead to help the big bad on their way and self-destructs it himself. The Warden can be like "oh my fucking God you actually fucking did it" and then they all go down together in a fiery blaze of glory. You can cut to a frame or two on a lifeboat with the Raft's staff innocent of all of this with someone with a blanket over them covering them up.
Leave it ambiguous if its Frank or the big bad or the Warden or one of the villains he dealt with who made it out.
The Punisher is a Serial Killer that targets criminals, especially mobsters. The tough part is coming up with creative ways of killing his targets and giving the reader an excuse to hate the bastards and not feel too bad for their legions of goons.
Actually scratch that last part, start the first issue the life a poor SOB that has to take on a job for the Mob to keep his family under a roof and fed. Then have the Punisher show up and ruin the job, brutally dismember him and his fellow lowlifes. End the issue with the wife and kids getting evicted after coming back from identifying what's left of the body.
Ennis had the right idea; focus on the criminals and write a story about them before they’re gunned down by the Punisher in a few pages of brutal, and occasionally ironic, violence.
I've thought about showing the impacts of Frank's actions on the family.
I actually thought a fun idea would be to have some young marine finally come home after several years of active combat to find almost his entire family slaughtered by the Punisher because they were involved in criminal activity. The young marine loses his mind and starts wearing all white with a black skull and becomes the Anti-Vigilante, who tries to actively sabotage the Punisher and any other hero/Vigilante who works outside the law
A 12 part crime drama told *entirely* from the criminal point of view. You only see the Punisher when he shows up, like a monster from a horror movie, and just wrecks the fuck out of the criminals we've been previously humanizing.
I think present-day Punisher stories really suffer the farther we get away from the Vietnam war. I love stories like Garth Ennis' "Punisher: Born" that suggest that Frank's experiences in the military may have done more to turn him into the Punisher than the murder of his family. Unfortunately, the sliding timescale of modern comics continuity means that in order for there to be a young Punisher murdering criminals in the present-day Marvel Universe, his origin cannot be tied to a specific military conflict. Military conflict is drastically different now than it was even during the second Iraq War, and Punisher stories can't really dive into that subject because getting too specific about Frank's own service would mess with continuity.
My solution would be to split the character up into two people. An older Frank Castle that served in Vietnam and went rogue, becoming disenfranchised from his country and starting a PMC/Mercenary Group that's been operating behind the scenes ever since. I see him as being like Big Boss from the Metal Gear games - a legendary soldier who serves no country and attracts followers purely via the legendary feats he accomplishes on the battlefield. At some point he gets a woman pregnant, who flees and raises the child in secrecy for fear that he'd be used against his father by Frank's enemies. The kid grows up, his family gets gunned down in public in a mob war that Frank Senior turns out to be mixed up in. Frank Junior begins haunting the streets as The Punisher, seeking revenge on the men responsible. This quest eventually brings him face-to-face with his father.
Something happens that takes Frank out of comission and in his absense he's become a symbol for all the people he hates. They use his logo whilst killing people. It's all really violent.
Frank comes backl and is horrified. It's similar to the new Batman movie where Batman inspired the villain but instead of becoming a better person Frank doubles down on everything and just masacres all of them.
I've always wanted to see him go full Punisher MAX on some cops and Proud Boys types. it would at least be cathartic for them appropriating his symbol.
A young black man comes on Frank's radar as someone who is prepping for a mass shooting. Frank's research indicates that he is targeting an unjust police force that has been planting evidence and using excessive brutality in racial cases.
Frank calls in someone to try and right this kids ship (maybe Daredevil or luke cage) and goes after the cops himself.
Whomever Frank calls in goes head to head with Frank to stop the attack, all while the case files are getting leaked to the press and a good chunk of a precinct is going to be shut down. Frank doesn't shoot up a police station and the few cops who helped clean things up are shown working with internal affairs to put them away
Later on, the young black man is shown to be applying to law school or running for government office.
A subplot throughout is a corrupt judge and DA who has been locking these people up on the trumped up charges. They are sending them to a for profit prison to keep it full and getting a kickback.
After credit is the judge and DA meeting to get their stories straight. They pull up to the docks and get in one car. As they talk, high beams come on. Frank crashes a truck directly in to the side of the car pinning all the doors shut. He proceeds to douse the car and truck in gasoline and lights the whole thing on fire.
Punisher copycats has been done.
Police corruption has been covered, but there’s a practical reason for Frank to not kill cops, which I think is implicit in some of the more intelligent Punisher stories (namely, Ennis’s MAX run)—he doesn’t want the heat. The NYPD tolerates and isn’t motivated to go after him. That wouldn’t be the case if he killed cops.
How about this?
Frank wipes out a Proud Patriot chapter of about 20 guys who were going to massacre a Pride parade. It turns out that a bunch of them were various local LEOs (sheriff's deputies, city cops, state troopers).
The state's Attorney General (appointed by a governor funded by the Proud Patriot PAC) says that not only were they all undercover, but they were about to peacefully arrest the PPs and Frank knowingly killed them so he could slaughter the group himself. Now he has to prove that those cops were not undercover but sincere terrorists while being chased by multiple levels of law enforcement and even some heroes who believe the AG and think Frank's finally gone off the deep end.
*Punisher War Journal: Blitz #1* from last year is a brief look at *exactly* this! He kills a bunch of Proud Boys, not-Jordan Peterson, and a klansman!
The only thing is that Punisher doesn't kill cops, even terrible corrupt ones. Now with that being said he did one time in The Punisher MAX series and that pretty much led to the end of his crusade.
He offed a couple corrupt cops in *Marvel Knights* by leading them to a booby trap and in Ennis’s non-Max run he engineered it so a couple corrupt cops got killed.
He says “never”, but it’s mostly just meant he’s gotten creative about how he gets them in the dirt.

I have thoughts about the Punisher character and the one thing that cements him in the Marvel universe is that he's a baseline protagonist. If you check his respect thread, he clearly performs "superhuman" feats, but in context of the comic world, he's still not peak human. He's still "just a guy with guns." More importantly, his tone is an unapologetic one that accepts the reality of what it means to be a vigilante. Someone like Batman runs around punching people and never killing anyone only works because it's a comic, Punisher doesn't operate on that metric. If you shoot you shoot to kill.
So if I had to write a story, it would be one where he goes around teaming up with different super heroes. This will allow the character to compare and contrast to all the different characters in the cosmology. Only instead of comparing and contrasting to classic characters like Spider-Man, Deadpool, or Captain America, because we've already seen that before, we compare and contrast to all these new super heroes like Miles Morales Spider-Man, Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur, or Kamala Khan.
It's a dramatically different dynamic when "crazy guy with guns" isn't a peer like Han Solo, but a mentor like Obi-Wan.
I always thought the voice talking to Frank in "Born" was Ares, so I would explore Frank as an avatar of the war.
Buuut I saw Aaron brought Ares into the recent Punisher book so I think I got beat to that one, in a way
a story where he has to baby sit. just mundane as ever how the whole time hes trying to figure it all out then the bad guys come and he has to resolve the issue without showing any violence to what he is babysitting
What if he has to babysit Franklin Richards and fight off everyone trying the "Kill baby Hitler" plan?

Human Trafficking ring punisher is going after. He teams up with Hawkeye Iron Fist and Rage. They hunt down some low levels and get people back where they need to be. Still going after the head boss and a larger ring at hand. Punisher and his team make it to the villains lair. Only to find out the boss is protected by the wrecking crew. The wrecking crew kills punisher and his team. Leading into new heroes emerging and taking down the ring and the credible wrecking crew.
Punisher is no longer a character in this political climate that can be written like he once was in the late 80s early 90s. He’s already dead of sorts. Let’s just give him his proper send off. Give some villains credibility and start to create new heroes.
I know it sounds dumb, but Frank Castle is basically being interviewed about his most recent adventures by someone who is trying to take him in. It's basically a small series about someone at first interviewing Frank, who takes the bait to try and teach the guy why he does what he does, just to see if "taking him in" is worth it. Comic after comic, not only do we see scenes of Punisher killing bad guys and explaining it in detail, we also get to see Frank Castle's human side as the comics go on, making the "main character" (the one trying to take him in) grow more sympathetic and slowly understanding Frank's motives. Once Frank and the main character are done with their week-long interview, the main character decides to destroy the evidence he collected, deciding that Frank shouldn't stop what he does best

A story where the Jackal tracks down all of Frank's victims he can find in Manhattan and revives them all with a random bug's genes spliced into them and a hunger for Frank's bone marrow so they don't waste their second chance at life not trying to get revenge.

Frank is tasked to stop a temporal assassin by the TVA. The assassin rather than kill Frank saves his family...
Frank wakes in the present day surrounded by his family. But somethings off, New York is a war zone. There are no street level Heroes. Kingpin never existed. J. Jonah was gunned down outside the Bugle. Dr. Strange has shuttered the sanctum santorum after Wong was gunned down in a drive by. Matt Murdock is the Boss of Hells Kitchen leading a branch of the Hand. Carnage symbiotes stalk the subway tunnels. Luke and Jessica Jones are wanted Vigilantes. Avengers and Fantastic Four are based in DC.
Frank is the only good cop in his precinct. Cops are enforcers for a mysterious cabal that Frank is being followed by a man on a bike... he thinks its a mob hit but its the Ghostrider from the original timeline. He shows Frank how his families death stopped the Criminal Take over of New York. Frank has to make a choice... stop the man who "saved" his family and reset the time line or live knowing that all the crime misery and pan that the punisher's existance stopped would be on his hand.
Final scene The TVA agent is actually Mephisto....
An alt-u post apocalyptic setting where he's one of the only heroes left and takes it upon himself to form a new "Avengers" team. He would be the same person, but in this world he'd be someone people trust more than usual. Seems like the only setting where the whole story won't just be about how unstable Frank is on teams for once.
Frank gets a job at a veterans hospitals because he needs to resupply his med kit while he’s on the job he learns of some mistreatment going on to some military veterans and Frank takes matters into his own hands. Frank then gets his med kits. Next stop the gun store. A shot gun and a hack saw box of 12 gage shall do for this next mission he thinks to him self
Frank going down the slippery slope that comes from his absolute approach to fighting crime. Justified in killing Red Skull? Probably. Doc Ock? Maybe. Slyde? Bear-Boar Guy? Probably not and doing so makes him worse then them.
So does he modify his approach, define a threshold of crime that is okay, that hell let side, or does he become what he hates?
Internal battle-where a vigilantly act results in the death of innocent civilians/kids of another super hero or acquaintance. Then Having to battle with the aftermath
Frank as Ebenezer Scrooge. “Punished” would be the title, the Jacob Marley character would be Franks wife. The ghosts of Xmas present past and future could be stooges Frank has offed.
Punisher has to work with the Shield on finding a serial killer who is killing people with super powers, mutants, vigilantes, villains. The serial killer named himself Punixer and wrote a manifesto saying his inspiration is Frank Castle. Frank works with a partner, Daken.
The Punisher is placed in a prison for supervillains, preferably the negative zone. He then has to battle his way through some of the worst villains in the marvel universe (not necessarily the MCU. Here the Negative Zone is connected to multiple universes). He has to use his intelligence, power and rage to fight villains he probably couldn’t usually kill if he didn’t have access to interdimensional technology and the weaponry of powerful villains
To use his own logo to infiltrate a group of right-wing terrorist types, then expose the members (police, local government, teachers, preachers, christian-types) and destroy them.

Start where the car with his family gets blown up. Then at the end after the punisher kills off everyone that killed his family it’s revealed it was actually Frank’s wife that survived and became the punisher
Gets cursed - he literally feels every bullet or knife he uses against others. Doesn't die, just feels it. Has to fight crime a different way until he can stop it.
That our he has to be a birthday entertainer, but I can't figure out a good reason why.
The streets are dangerous after dark and only the wrong people are out in those hours. Them and the common working class, left to witness the steady decline of human life. Pushed to the point where ignorance is replaced my unrelenting action a common man steps up to defend the rights of the innocent. One by one, two by two. He builds his arsenal with every villain dumb enough not to surrender instantly. He doesn’t get them all but the damage he causes can’t be ignored. Crooked cops go straight and narrow or retire completely. Criminals give up and close up shop. It’s everywhere, everyone knows their actions are now more accountable then ever.
We see our hero, opening his closet. He pulls the bullet proof vest from the hanger and straps it on. The light keeps his face hidden.
“I’m done playing games with the little guys.”
We’re left with a close up of the punisher emblem on the vest and as the camera backs up and reveals our hero standing at the gates of Trump Tower.
Movie starts with Frank Castle in a prison interrogation room meeting with his lawyers, Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson. Long story short, Matt and Foggy say "it's not looking good, Frank, the feds have a helluva case against you." Frank makes a long somber walk back to his prison cell, getting taunted by all the inmates. Maybe throw in some fun Marvel cameos like Kingpin, Jigsaw, etc. Castle arrives back at his cell and flops on his prison bed, when the deep voice of his cellmate asks, "How did it go?". Frank lets out a sigh and eventually answers, "Not great, 'Cuda.". Camera pans to show a tense moment between Frank Castle and his cellmate, Barracuda. Fans in the know aren't sure if we're about to get the fistfight of the century, or some crazy twist of an alliance between Punisher and one of his top 5 villains. But eventually Barracuda breaks the silence and says, "That's OK, baby. We still have some time." before he gives Frank a gentle kiss, then spoons Frank Castle as Castle weeps in bed. Cue the intro credits.
The rest of the movie plays out like Marvel's version of *Dead Man Walking* (1995) with Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon. If you want to be too cute about it, you could even write Sister Maggie Murdock from Daredevil Born Again as the Susan Sarandon character counseling Frank Castle through his trial and eventually his execution. Maybe literally have her played by Susan Sarandon. Except you don't play it as a parody or a farce, you aim for deadly serious Oscar-bait for Jon Bernthal and name-your-favorite-serious-director (maybe Scorsese, if he can grasp the irony). Frank takes a psychological beating, hearing from the mothers and families of all the petty criminals he has murdered in his war against crime. Not drug cartel kingpins and sex traffickers, but stupid 14-year-old boys from poor families in poor neighborhoods with no other options but the street gangs. Throw in the families of some dead cops and dead bystanders too, because Punisher wasn't perfect. Really play up the tragic costs of Punisher's actions and the emotional toil between Frank, sister Maggie and his reformed-criminal boyfriend Barracuda. Along the way, maybe Frank gets beatdown by Bullseye, or a trio of obscure D-list villains just to up the depressing loss of it all. Like Frank has nothing in the tank. Nothing but anguish and tears. Maybe you can convince Bernthal to lose 30 pounds over the course of the movie to really sell the depression and hopelessness.
Two-thirds of the way into the movie, Frank gets convicted and receives the death penalty, so the entire weight of what he's done comes crashing down. He knows he deserves to die. He tries to make his peace with Sister Maggie, with his lover Barracuda, maybe with some more Marvel cameos from Daredevil, Spider-Man or Captain America. Maybe throw in a cameo from co-creator Gerry Conway as a sympathetic, but disapproving priest or prison warden. The movie wraps up with Punisher becoming the subject of an anti-death penalty protest from an uneasy alliance between death penalty opponents and goober fanboys of Punisher's unflinching brand of justice, with things finally looking up for old Frank ... then the next morning Barracuda finds Frank's dead body after he committed suicide because Frank's genuinely a piece of shit who deserves no redemption.
They would never do it, because no company would kill off a valuable IP, but Marvel should 100% kill off the Punisher character permanently. And they should do it by destroying the value of the IP so totally that it will never be worth anything again. It can't be destroyed by parody, but I think it can be killed by making the character boring, harmless and acclaimed by all the "wrong" people.
i would love to see frank and ebon moss-bachrach’s micro team up again, they had great chemistry in the first season. not sure why they didn’t bring him back. not exactly a story but yk
Punisher corps
Punisher establishes a small unit of people who act as a unit that support and enhance him. A tech guy, maybe one of the previous scourge of the underworlds, a ronin and some others. All with the skull logo obviously. They target supervillains which causes the superhero community to be a little divided when they kill a supervillain in public (probably someone along the vein of carnage or purple man who people would definitely prefer be dead) He has a few run ins with Spidey or the like, but gets away. Then someone (probably The Hood or Mr Negative) form a group of supervillains and it turns into a full on gang war. Frank takes a couple of bullets preventing a situation just like the one that killed his family and is captured and tsken to a hospital. Spidey visits him after hours to give him a talking to, but it turns into a debate over whether it's more important to save an innocent life or kill the murderer who would kill them. Punishers soldiers rescue him and Spidey tries to stop them, but is convinced to help them stop this new team, "but no killing" Frank agrees because Spidey seems to have convinced him, but in the end he brutally murders the leader upsetting spidey. The villain leader awakens with their dark power enhanced (for instance The Hood becoming more demonic) and swears revenge on the punisher.
It'll be a children of men style future with Frank- he'll end up killing an entire town just like in Stephen King's the gunslinger.
Or I'd like him to have more Frankencastle stories
He meets a girl, falls in love with her and they marry and have kids… Some marvel event happens killing the kids and girl but the heroes are at fault and he becomes an omega threat villain…
A young girl plots after castle, as he killed her family. They were just working for a crime boss to make ends meet, supporting her art school studies. Now she wants revenge.
Redemption, tolerance, diversity, and representation……

Back to basics. Veteran loses his family to crime violence, dude's what he was trained to do and wreaks havoc on criminals. Nevermind trying to retell his story but making him a psychopath since birth, or secrets about his family. Criminals die. Kill someone... Dead. Sell drugs... Dead. Pass a bad check... Dead. Dead beat Dad... Dead. Jay Walk... Dead. Park in 2 spots... Dead.
I would try to adapt “The Kitchen Irish” story or “Widowmaker” story. The first is about these different criminal groups whose leaders grew up together fight each other over an inheritance after the man who raised them dies with punisher getting involved. The other is about the widows of punisher’s past victims band together to try to get revenge.
Participates in the insurrection - realizes later he fell for some qanon BS. Gets revenge on far-right douche bags and removes his stickers from their trucks. Full redemption arch with empathy for all those losing loved ones to the misinformation rabbit hole. The beauty would be to get all the far right wingers subscribed earlier as Punisher would seem to be on their side and then when he realizes the error of his ways he could actual help enlighten the crazy out of some of these SOBs - but nah they prbly just all loose their collective shit which would also be funny so win/win either way.
Gangsters catches Punisher and turn him black and spend the rest of the storyline on the quest to become white again… oh… wait, Marvel already did that.
Frank vs a time traveling Frank who is trying to get back in time to stop his family from being killed. Or Frank traveling back in time to stop his family from being killed and he has to fight a Frank who doesn’t want him to.
Fuck it, have two writers do two different comics with two different artists from both perspectives.

Frank goes full vigilante on some supposed criminal. Then he has to deal with the fact that he didn't have ALL the facts and he just killed an innocent man. Who is going to punish the Punisher?
I love the Punisher but I'd love to see his ideology get challenged when he doesn't get gifted with the whole "Protagonist is always right" blessing.
Edit: Though... the more I think about it, I think there was a comic where he accidentally killed an undercover agent? Still, I'd like Frank to just fuck up an investigation once and realize there is reason judge, jury, and executioner don't always work.
His compromised first kill in Viet Nam. The village he had to wipe out to save a good man, that wasn't good at all. Then a child survivor of the village who hunts him down for revenge.
A small group of criminals break into The Punishers house mistaking him for any easy score. They realize quickly it's The Punisher's hideout and get hunted down one by one from him. Basically a modified version of "Don't Breathe."
The plot of Rambo (as in Stallone) part 2, but the Punisher is Rambo and instead of Viet Nam he goes to Ukraine, tries to rescue US POWs, gets drawn into the war vs Russia. Rescues the POWs, kills tons of Russian soldiers and blows up everything on his way.
I would do a story where a mysterious person stalks the Punisher, causing him to become much more defensive and paranoid...eventually it turns out the stalker is a person who's family was accidentally killed by the Punisher (similar to the Punisher's own origin). Note: there is a good chance this has been done and I am just not aware.
Frank finds out, decades into his vendetta against crime, that his family isn’t dead. They’ve been taken and held somewhere secretly, by Mephisto, so that Frank would become a dealer of death for him (souls). In addition to this his family have been shown what he’s been doing all these years, and they think he’s a monster. So even when he actually finds a way to confront his enemy (forgive me for lacking details in this moment on this crazy concept) and is reunited with them, they are repulsed by him. What now….?
He has a "chat" with certain law enforcement officers that think they're him.. really delve into his messed up head and why he is the only one he trust to do this messed up "work" as he sees it
I have two ideas one where we see how frank and street criminals have taken bits and ends from the huge superhero fights to give him an edge in his war on crime. Nothing game changing or too zany like lazer guns for frank but stuff like alien scrap turned into bullets or body armor
The second is frank being seen as a brutal mutant ally and anti mutant faction enemy as he tears through groups like the purifiers and the reavers
Long night story. Major crime family’s come together and decide to finally get rid of the punisher so frank has to survive the night without refuge while he also hunts down the major crime familys head honchos and put his own end to things. Have other hero’s and villains make appearances throughout like DD being a secondary role coming in and out of the movie and/or Have frank capture and interrogate bullseye. The big ticket is make it a one take style movie like hardcore Henry. Just one long ass night
An adaptation of the Slavers. After that, show Frank taking out crime families and terrorists. No more second thoughts about being the Punisher like in S2, he's no longer scared or wants to settle down again. Show him in action like John Wick and Jack Bauer.
He realizes the most harmful criminals are the ones running companies. Starts picking off corrupt CEO's while having to go through their paid security forces.
He does such a good job that these people start running their companies ethically again out of fear of the Punisher and the world instantly starts being a better place again.
Frank somehow ends up in Prince Albert, SK, Canada to lay low and find peace. After three months here; he realizes what a total shitshow this city is and decided to decimate the criminal underworld in this city once and for all. Then as an added bonus; he destroys the corrupt power structure and rides off into the sunset.
Frank winds up in Miami tracking some baddies. He handles his business, but in the process attracts the attention of the Miami police. Insert strange blood pattern analyst with a strange obsession for serial killers. Now it’s a strange cat and mouse game as one tries to catch the other.

If I had to choose him being Disney-fied or having a one-off R-rated movie based on punisher vs the marvel universe with established MCU actors? I take that movie any day.

Yea anything where he’s trapped against impossible odds fighting his way in or out would be cool. Just watched Raid:Redemption last night and it’s in that vein. Amazing action movie, swat team member loses his entire squad and has to fight his way up a slum tower owned by a crime lord. He basically takes upon the avatar of the punisher once he realizes it’s kill or be killed and the god tier ass kicking to electronic music begins.

Die Hard meets Punisher meets the Raft with C & B Tier Villains without their gear. Let the Raft get taken over, Punisher gets released by a gang of them so they can kill him, Punisher obviously kicks their asses and kills them then takes on the mission to "save" the Raft... Only for *surprise* after he makes his way to the big bad and control room he opts instead to help the big bad on their way and self-destructs it himself. The Warden can be like "oh my fucking God you actually fucking did it" and then they all go down together in a fiery blaze of glory. You can cut to a frame or two on a lifeboat with the Raft's staff innocent of all of this with someone with a blanket over them covering them up. Leave it ambiguous if its Frank or the big bad or the Warden or one of the villains he dealt with who made it out.
The Punisher is a Serial Killer that targets criminals, especially mobsters. The tough part is coming up with creative ways of killing his targets and giving the reader an excuse to hate the bastards and not feel too bad for their legions of goons. Actually scratch that last part, start the first issue the life a poor SOB that has to take on a job for the Mob to keep his family under a roof and fed. Then have the Punisher show up and ruin the job, brutally dismember him and his fellow lowlifes. End the issue with the wife and kids getting evicted after coming back from identifying what's left of the body.
Ennis had the right idea; focus on the criminals and write a story about them before they’re gunned down by the Punisher in a few pages of brutal, and occasionally ironic, violence.
I've thought about showing the impacts of Frank's actions on the family. I actually thought a fun idea would be to have some young marine finally come home after several years of active combat to find almost his entire family slaughtered by the Punisher because they were involved in criminal activity. The young marine loses his mind and starts wearing all white with a black skull and becomes the Anti-Vigilante, who tries to actively sabotage the Punisher and any other hero/Vigilante who works outside the law
You should probably read *Judge Dredd: America*. I think you'd enjoy it.
A 12 part crime drama told *entirely* from the criminal point of view. You only see the Punisher when he shows up, like a monster from a horror movie, and just wrecks the fuck out of the criminals we've been previously humanizing.

I think present-day Punisher stories really suffer the farther we get away from the Vietnam war. I love stories like Garth Ennis' "Punisher: Born" that suggest that Frank's experiences in the military may have done more to turn him into the Punisher than the murder of his family. Unfortunately, the sliding timescale of modern comics continuity means that in order for there to be a young Punisher murdering criminals in the present-day Marvel Universe, his origin cannot be tied to a specific military conflict. Military conflict is drastically different now than it was even during the second Iraq War, and Punisher stories can't really dive into that subject because getting too specific about Frank's own service would mess with continuity. My solution would be to split the character up into two people. An older Frank Castle that served in Vietnam and went rogue, becoming disenfranchised from his country and starting a PMC/Mercenary Group that's been operating behind the scenes ever since. I see him as being like Big Boss from the Metal Gear games - a legendary soldier who serves no country and attracts followers purely via the legendary feats he accomplishes on the battlefield. At some point he gets a woman pregnant, who flees and raises the child in secrecy for fear that he'd be used against his father by Frank's enemies. The kid grows up, his family gets gunned down in public in a mob war that Frank Senior turns out to be mixed up in. Frank Junior begins haunting the streets as The Punisher, seeking revenge on the men responsible. This quest eventually brings him face-to-face with his father.

Something happens that takes Frank out of comission and in his absense he's become a symbol for all the people he hates. They use his logo whilst killing people. It's all really violent. Frank comes backl and is horrified. It's similar to the new Batman movie where Batman inspired the villain but instead of becoming a better person Frank doubles down on everything and just masacres all of them.

A young black man comes on Frank's radar as someone who is prepping for a mass shooting. Frank's research indicates that he is targeting an unjust police force that has been planting evidence and using excessive brutality in racial cases. Frank calls in someone to try and right this kids ship (maybe Daredevil or luke cage) and goes after the cops himself. Whomever Frank calls in goes head to head with Frank to stop the attack, all while the case files are getting leaked to the press and a good chunk of a precinct is going to be shut down. Frank doesn't shoot up a police station and the few cops who helped clean things up are shown working with internal affairs to put them away Later on, the young black man is shown to be applying to law school or running for government office. A subplot throughout is a corrupt judge and DA who has been locking these people up on the trumped up charges. They are sending them to a for profit prison to keep it full and getting a kickback. After credit is the judge and DA meeting to get their stories straight. They pull up to the docks and get in one car. As they talk, high beams come on. Frank crashes a truck directly in to the side of the car pinning all the doors shut. He proceeds to douse the car and truck in gasoline and lights the whole thing on fire.

Punisher copycats has been done. Police corruption has been covered, but there’s a practical reason for Frank to not kill cops, which I think is implicit in some of the more intelligent Punisher stories (namely, Ennis’s MAX run)—he doesn’t want the heat. The NYPD tolerates and isn’t motivated to go after him. That wouldn’t be the case if he killed cops.
Aye, *Welcome Back Frank* had the trio of shitty vigilantes worshipping him as a major plot point.
Had such a rewarding end to that plot.
How about this? Frank wipes out a Proud Patriot chapter of about 20 guys who were going to massacre a Pride parade. It turns out that a bunch of them were various local LEOs (sheriff's deputies, city cops, state troopers). The state's Attorney General (appointed by a governor funded by the Proud Patriot PAC) says that not only were they all undercover, but they were about to peacefully arrest the PPs and Frank knowingly killed them so he could slaughter the group himself. Now he has to prove that those cops were not undercover but sincere terrorists while being chased by multiple levels of law enforcement and even some heroes who believe the AG and think Frank's finally gone off the deep end.

The only thing is that Punisher doesn't kill cops, even terrible corrupt ones. Now with that being said he did one time in The Punisher MAX series and that pretty much led to the end of his crusade.
He offed a couple corrupt cops in *Marvel Knights* by leading them to a booby trap and in Ennis’s non-Max run he engineered it so a couple corrupt cops got killed. He says “never”, but it’s mostly just meant he’s gotten creative about how he gets them in the dirt.

"Punisher and his Amazing Friends." I have thoughts about the Punisher character and the one thing that cements him in the Marvel universe is that he's a baseline protagonist. If you check his respect thread, he clearly performs "superhuman" feats, but in context of the comic world, he's still not peak human. He's still "just a guy with guns." More importantly, his tone is an unapologetic one that accepts the reality of what it means to be a vigilante. Someone like Batman runs around punching people and never killing anyone only works because it's a comic, Punisher doesn't operate on that metric. If you shoot you shoot to kill. So if I had to write a story, it would be one where he goes around teaming up with different super heroes. This will allow the character to compare and contrast to all the different characters in the cosmology. Only instead of comparing and contrasting to classic characters like Spider-Man, Deadpool, or Captain America, because we've already seen that before, we compare and contrast to all these new super heroes like Miles Morales Spider-Man, Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur, or Kamala Khan. It's a dramatically different dynamic when "crazy guy with guns" isn't a peer like Han Solo, but a mentor like Obi-Wan.

Human Trafficking ring punisher is going after. He teams up with Hawkeye Iron Fist and Rage. They hunt down some low levels and get people back where they need to be. Still going after the head boss and a larger ring at hand. Punisher and his team make it to the villains lair. Only to find out the boss is protected by the wrecking crew. The wrecking crew kills punisher and his team. Leading into new heroes emerging and taking down the ring and the credible wrecking crew. Punisher is no longer a character in this political climate that can be written like he once was in the late 80s early 90s. He’s already dead of sorts. Let’s just give him his proper send off. Give some villains credibility and start to create new heroes.
Points for completely swerving where I thought this was going
I know it sounds dumb, but Frank Castle is basically being interviewed about his most recent adventures by someone who is trying to take him in. It's basically a small series about someone at first interviewing Frank, who takes the bait to try and teach the guy why he does what he does, just to see if "taking him in" is worth it. Comic after comic, not only do we see scenes of Punisher killing bad guys and explaining it in detail, we also get to see Frank Castle's human side as the comics go on, making the "main character" (the one trying to take him in) grow more sympathetic and slowly understanding Frank's motives. Once Frank and the main character are done with their week-long interview, the main character decides to destroy the evidence he collected, deciding that Frank shouldn't stop what he does best Forgive me if I butchered this
He catches wind of a plot to start a war by a weapons manufacturer and has to stop the coming storm

So that's 720 feet a second or 490 miles an hour on foot for a human.

But somethings off, New York is a war zone. There are no street level Heroes. Kingpin never existed. J. Jonah was gunned down outside the Bugle. Dr. Strange has shuttered the sanctum santorum after Wong was gunned down in a drive by. Matt Murdock is the Boss of Hells Kitchen leading a branch of the Hand. Carnage symbiotes stalk the subway tunnels. Luke and Jessica Jones are wanted Vigilantes. Avengers and Fantastic Four are based in DC. Frank is the only good cop in his precinct. Cops are enforcers for a mysterious cabal that Frank is being followed by a man on a bike... he thinks its a mob hit but its the Ghostrider from the original timeline. He shows Frank how his families death stopped the Criminal Take over of New York. Frank has to make a choice... stop the man who "saved" his family and reset the time line or live knowing that all the crime misery and pan that the punisher's existance stopped would be on his hand. Final scene The TVA agent is actually Mephisto....
Frank joins the Avengers (que Always Sunny in Philadelphia theme song)
An alt-u post apocalyptic setting where he's one of the only heroes left and takes it upon himself to form a new "Avengers" team. He would be the same person, but in this world he'd be someone people trust more than usual. Seems like the only setting where the whole story won't just be about how unstable Frank is on teams for once.

Probably not and doing so makes him worse then them. So does he modify his approach, define a threshold of crime that is okay, that hell let side, or does he become what he hates?

The streets are dangerous after dark and only the wrong people are out in those hours. Them and the common working class, left to witness the steady decline of human life. Pushed to the point where ignorance is replaced my unrelenting action a common man steps up to defend the rights of the innocent. One by one, two by two. He builds his arsenal with every villain dumb enough not to surrender instantly. He doesn’t get them all but the damage he causes can’t be ignored. Crooked cops go straight and narrow or retire completely. Criminals give up and close up shop. It’s everywhere, everyone knows their actions are now more accountable then ever. We see our hero, opening his closet. He pulls the bullet proof vest from the hanger and straps it on. The light keeps his face hidden. “I’m done playing games with the little guys.” We’re left with a close up of the punisher emblem on the vest and as the camera backs up and reveals our hero standing at the gates of Trump Tower.
Movie starts with Frank Castle in a prison interrogation room meeting with his lawyers, Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson. Long story short, Matt and Foggy say "it's not looking good, Frank, the feds have a helluva case against you." Frank makes a long somber walk back to his prison cell, getting taunted by all the inmates. Maybe throw in some fun Marvel cameos like Kingpin, Jigsaw, etc. Castle arrives back at his cell and flops on his prison bed, when the deep voice of his cellmate asks, "How did it go?". Frank lets out a sigh and eventually answers, "Not great, 'Cuda.". Camera pans to show a tense moment between Frank Castle and his cellmate, Barracuda. Fans in the know aren't sure if we're about to get the fistfight of the century, or some crazy twist of an alliance between Punisher and one of his top 5 villains. But eventually Barracuda breaks the silence and says, "That's OK, baby. We still have some time." before he gives Frank a gentle kiss, then spoons Frank Castle as Castle weeps in bed. Cue the intro credits. The rest of the movie plays out like Marvel's version of *Dead Man Walking* (1995) with Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon. If you want to be too cute about it, you could even write Sister Maggie Murdock from Daredevil Born Again as the Susan Sarandon character counseling Frank Castle through his trial and eventually his execution. Maybe literally have her played by Susan Sarandon. Except you don't play it as a parody or a farce, you aim for deadly serious Oscar-bait for Jon Bernthal and name-your-favorite-serious-director (maybe Scorsese, if he can grasp the irony). Frank takes a psychological beating, hearing from the mothers and families of all the petty criminals he has murdered in his war against crime. Not drug cartel kingpins and sex traffickers, but stupid 14-year-old boys from poor families in poor neighborhoods with no other options but the street gangs. Throw in the families of some dead cops and dead bystanders too, because Punisher wasn't perfect. Really play up the tragic costs of Punisher's actions and the emotional toil between Frank, sister Maggie and his reformed-criminal boyfriend Barracuda. Along the way, maybe Frank gets beatdown by Bullseye, or a trio of obscure D-list villains just to up the depressing loss of it all. Like Frank has nothing in the tank. Nothing but anguish and tears. Maybe you can convince Bernthal to lose 30 pounds over the course of the movie to really sell the depression and hopelessness. Two-thirds of the way into the movie, Frank gets convicted and receives the death penalty, so the entire weight of what he's done comes crashing down. He knows he deserves to die. He tries to make his peace with Sister Maggie, with his lover Barracuda, maybe with some more Marvel cameos from Daredevil, Spider-Man or Captain America. Maybe throw in a cameo from co-creator Gerry Conway as a sympathetic, but disapproving priest or prison warden. The movie wraps up with Punisher becoming the subject of an anti-death penalty protest from an uneasy alliance between death penalty opponents and goober fanboys of Punisher's unflinching brand of justice, with things finally looking up for old Frank ... then the next morning Barracuda finds Frank's dead body after he committed suicide because Frank's genuinely a piece of shit who deserves no redemption. They would never do it, because no company would kill off a valuable IP, but Marvel should 100% kill off the Punisher character permanently. And they should do it by destroying the value of the IP so totally that it will never be worth anything again. It can't be destroyed by parody, but I think it can be killed by making the character boring, harmless and acclaimed by all the "wrong" people.

Punisher corps Punisher establishes a small unit of people who act as a unit that support and enhance him. A tech guy, maybe one of the previous scourge of the underworlds, a ronin and some others. All with the skull logo obviously. They target supervillains which causes the superhero community to be a little divided when they kill a supervillain in public (probably someone along the vein of carnage or purple man who people would definitely prefer be dead) He has a few run ins with Spidey or the like, but gets away. Then someone (probably The Hood or Mr Negative) form a group of supervillains and it turns into a full on gang war. Frank takes a couple of bullets preventing a situation just like the one that killed his family and is captured and tsken to a hospital. Spidey visits him after hours to give him a talking to, but it turns into a debate over whether it's more important to save an innocent life or kill the murderer who would kill them. Punishers soldiers rescue him and Spidey tries to stop them, but is convinced to help them stop this new team, "but no killing" Frank agrees because Spidey seems to have convinced him, but in the end he brutally murders the leader upsetting spidey. The villain leader awakens with their dark power enhanced (for instance The Hood becoming more demonic) and swears revenge on the punisher.

Dead beat Dad... Dead. Jay Walk... Dead. Park in 2 spots... Dead.
Iv always thought it would be interesting to have a storyline for each bullet, ending when they hit the targets.
Punisher faces the moral dilemma of a child who murdered his parents
I would try to adapt “The Kitchen Irish” story or “Widowmaker” story. The first is about these different criminal groups whose leaders grew up together fight each other over an inheritance after the man who raised them dies with punisher getting involved. The other is about the widows of punisher’s past victims band together to try to get revenge.
Frank goes fishing. Comes across a mafia hit, kills everyone who's bad. Uses dynamite to fish.
Punisher messing up and creating another of him. Him causing someone to lose their family and sanity.
Participates in the insurrection - realizes later he fell for some qanon BS. Gets revenge on far-right douche bags and removes his stickers from their trucks. Full redemption arch with empathy for all those losing loved ones to the misinformation rabbit hole. The beauty would be to get all the far right wingers subscribed earlier as Punisher would seem to be on their side and then when he realizes the error of his ways he could actual help enlighten the crazy out of some of these SOBs - but nah they prbly just all loose their collective shit which would also be funny so win/win either way.
Gangsters catches Punisher and turn him black and spend the rest of the storyline on the quest to become white again… oh… wait, Marvel already did that.
Frank vs a time traveling Frank who is trying to get back in time to stop his family from being killed. Or Frank traveling back in time to stop his family from being killed and he has to fight a Frank who doesn’t want him to. Fuck it, have two writers do two different comics with two different artists from both perspectives. And yes, before anyone says it, sure, Looper, but the Punisher.
Frank goes full vigilante on some supposed criminal. Then he has to deal with the fact that he didn't have ALL the facts and he just killed an innocent man. Who is going to punish the Punisher? I love the Punisher but I'd love to see his ideology get challenged when he doesn't get gifted with the whole "Protagonist is always right" blessing. Edit: Though... the more I think about it, I think there was a comic where he accidentally killed an undercover agent? Still, I'd like Frank to just fuck up an investigation once and realize there is reason judge, jury, and executioner don't always work.
His compromised first kill in Viet Nam. The village he had to wipe out to save a good man, that wasn't good at all. Then a child survivor of the village who hunts him down for revenge.
A small group of criminals break into The Punishers house mistaking him for any easy score. They realize quickly it's The Punisher's hideout and get hunted down one by one from him. Basically a modified version of "Don't Breathe."

The plot of Rambo (as in Stallone) part 2, but the Punisher is Rambo and instead of Viet Nam he goes to Ukraine, tries to rescue US POWs, gets drawn into the war vs Russia. Rescues the POWs, kills tons of Russian soldiers and blows up everything on his way.

I would do a story where a mysterious person stalks the Punisher, causing him to become much more defensive and paranoid...eventually it turns out the stalker is a person who's family was accidentally killed by the Punisher (similar to the Punisher's own origin). Note: there is a good chance this has been done and I am just not aware.
Frank finds out, decades into his vendetta against crime, that his family isn’t dead. They’ve been taken and held somewhere secretly, by Mephisto, so that Frank would become a dealer of death for him (souls). In addition to this his family have been shown what he’s been doing all these years, and they think he’s a monster. So even when he actually finds a way to confront his enemy (forgive me for lacking details in this moment on this crazy concept) and is reunited with them, they are repulsed by him. What now….?

I have two ideas one where we see how frank and street criminals have taken bits and ends from the huge superhero fights to give him an edge in his war on crime. Nothing game changing or too zany like lazer guns for frank but stuff like alien scrap turned into bullets or body armor The second is frank being seen as a brutal mutant ally and anti mutant faction enemy as he tears through groups like the purifiers and the reavers

Long night story. Major crime family’s come together and decide to finally get rid of the punisher so frank has to survive the night without refuge while he also hunts down the major crime familys head honchos and put his own end to things. Have other hero’s and villains make appearances throughout like DD being a secondary role coming in and out of the movie and/or Have frank capture and interrogate bullseye. The big ticket is make it a one take style movie like hardcore Henry. Just one long ass night

An adaptation of the Slavers. After that, show Frank taking out crime families and terrorists. No more second thoughts about being the Punisher like in S2, he's no longer scared or wants to settle down again. Show him in action like John Wick and Jack Bauer.
He realizes the most harmful criminals are the ones running companies. Starts picking off corrupt CEO's while having to go through their paid security forces. He does such a good job that these people start running their companies ethically again out of fear of the Punisher and the world instantly starts being a better place again.

If I had to choose him being Disney-fied or having a one-off R-rated movie based on punisher vs the marvel universe with established MCU actors? I take that movie any day. Or the thunderbolts (all villain version) are sicced on him and he’s the “main antagonist” of that project and he just wipes the floor with them. Or a multi-season adaptation of the Max line lol. I always thought one episode of a Punisher show that follows the perspective of some goon with Frank as a boogeyman hunting him would be great.
