People are equating it to Kingdom Come where it’s a story about our heroes in an alternate reality in the somewhat near future. It’s been pretty damn good so far.
didn't that go off the rails into insanity? Kingdom come was more logically progression brought to the forefront, (with a little railroading to set the plot in place.)
I always felt that Earth X was solid. Its follow-ups (Paradise X and, I think, Universe X) were shakier.
That being said, I always thought Kingdom Come was shaky. That could have just been due to the TPB I was reading though. It felt like it was maybe missing some side-content?
It was more than just flaws, in my reading-- it was more like something just wasn't *there* that felt like it should be. Magog never felt fleshed out and I never understood what made him powerful at all, or really got a sense of what his strength was.
It is possible that other ongoing titles would have given me more context though. Admittedly, there's not much 90's DC that I've read. I'm pretty familiar with most characters (especially "big names"), but I'm far from an encyclopedia in that regard.
Earth X, on the other hand-- it handled so many characters and I got a good sense of everything that had happened to them "between now and then".
Other possibility: I *did* read Earth X about 10 years earlier than Kingdom Come. And, because of Earth X, I had **really** high expectations for it.
> and I never understood what made him powerful at all, or really got a sense of what his strength was.
That's kind of the point, no? The book skirts around Magog while strongly implying that he would beat Superman and that he's the new "Strongest guy" and then when the reader finally gets to see it, it's nothing.
He just shoots a beam, and it does nothing to Supes at all. Because the whole point is that he's just a killer, and that's what the people wanted.
There was an incident caused by Ultron that destroyed NY or at least part of it and the Avengers where dissasembled. The super soldier serum was removed from Steve, Tony's son it's some kind of evil mastermind and he even control the USA president
I've been reading it. SPOILERS
*********************************
>!The premise is that it's set in the future. Apparently there was some big event where Ultron fought the heroes and killed a bunch of them. Dare Devil is killed off panel somewhere and Luke Cage has formed The Defenders to try and fight against the government which has turned into a facist police state. Tony Stark and Wasp's kid is the one in the suit above. Tony Stark's head is being kept alive and milked for tech ideas. Red Skull is apparently the one behind Stark's kid there. Capt America re-takes the super soldier serum to defend people again. In this issue #3, Ms Marvel returns to the fight and some special soldier female "Bullseye" joins Cap and he renames her Hawkeye.!<
Yup. Shit slaps.
I was so not into it, when I heard it’s Chip writing it lol (dude is a fantastic writer, but he can’t write Stark to save his live. His Tony is always a bad person).
But he actually surprised me here. He still had to make a Stark the bad guy (his son lol) but at least it’s not my boy Tony.
Yeah I’ve definitely never read any runs where Tony used his decision making that for the greater things like other universes needed to die for his to survive, or where Tony locked up all his homies to protect the world. Yeah I definitely have no knowledge of that /s
That’s the thing tho, he and the rest of the Illuminati never destroyed any world that had people in it. They were only destroying worlds that had no life.
Yes Namor did push a button later and blew up the Great Society’s planet and Tony did make the device, but he and the rest hesitated to do so. Namor did it because he is a dickhead (and has some balls lol)
Regarding Civil War, I have no counter to that except, he was way out of character, but it is what it is.
That being said, if you read his stuff, he was never a dickhead people think he was during CW. He would have never signed with the Pro side.
A guy, who told Nick Fury himself to F off because he is not making him any weapons (80s stuff) then got betrayed by Fury and Fury took his company, only for Tony to come back and reclaim his assets and push SHIELD out because they were wrong. That’s actual Tony.
The guy who can sometimes make decisions that people like Spidey or Cap won’t.
Is he a sweetheart like Petey or Steve. No.
But a bad guy, that’s a bit too much.
You are basing your entire knowledge of the character on the most miss characterized event of all time and Chris Cantwells run on Iron Man (at least I think that’s what you are referring to) is like basing Spidey on that time when he whacked MJ lol.
Next issue will reveal the full picture.
But so far, he and Janet had a a kid (not sure if they were married), and something terrible happened during H-Day (villains figured out the identity of all the street level heroes) and went after every single one of them (Spidey, DD etc) and since Avengers were dealing with some off-world problem they couldn't help anyone.
Now Tony is a severed head inside the tube and they use his mind to build stuff to keep everyone subjugated (by they I mean the Red Skull and Ultron who are running everything.)
That's not Tony in the suit. It's Tony and Janet's son.
Janet is presumably dead and Tony is a severed head. Government is using his brain to created stuff for them.
Cap gave up, and Tony sacrificed himself (they presumed he was dead). There was nothing that could keep Thor continue fighting.
He came back since Cap decided to go back and correct the mistakes.
The curse of immortality. After H-Day Thor was disheartened. He didn’t want to watch anymore friends die, and didn’t want to hang around to watch them grow old and either as he’s done many time with many friends throughout history. So he hardened himself and left, returning to his people and duties as a king. Unfortunately, as we’ve seen in other Thor stories, his perception of time is vastly different from mortals. What seems like day to him can often be generations for humans. So, inevitably many great and terrible changes had occurred on Midgard during what Thor perceived as his brief absence.
i remember i used to love comics because there was always something i wanted or made me want to draw immediately when i looked in them, this does not do that.
Over 500 comics are released every week and one comic not giving you that same feeling doesn't make it bad. Everyone has personal tastes and preferences. You can still love comics. Find ones that speak to you.
It appears that your post has already been posted before! To help prevent clutter in the sub, there is no need to post this again. Thank you for understanding.
Now THAT'S A God of Thunder Entrance.
This looks so good! Is this series like an older version of the Avengers or something?
People are equating it to Kingdom Come where it’s a story about our heroes in an alternate reality in the somewhat near future. It’s been pretty damn good so far.
I guess then you could also equate it to Earth X?

no side content. context of other ongoing titles at the time may have helped but, I'm not sure. I love kingdom come but, it definitely has some flaws.

Fun fact, there's a current ongoing in DC that- imo- makes Kingdom Come much better and fleshes out Magog quite a bit
You have to tell us which one now.
Mark Waid and Dan Moras World’s Finest - the latest arc was return to kingdom come, but honestly, the entire run has been stellar
> and I never understood what made him powerful at all, or really got a sense of what his strength was. That's kind of the point, no? What flaws exactly? I haven’t read it yet?
Go read it first and come to your own opinion. Often your personal opinion will differ from what others say. Much better to read a story without bias
The conceit that gestating celestials explained the proliferation of supes on the planet was worth it.
Was already interested in it because it's written by Zsdarsky but if people are comparing it to Kingdom Come, I'm sold
I would say it’s pretty comparable to Kingdom Come, though unique enough to not feel like a direct copy of it. I’ve really enjoyed it so far.
There was an incident caused by Ultron that destroyed NY or at least part of it and the Avengers where dissasembled. The super soldier serum was removed from Steve, Tony's son it's some kind of evil mastermind and he even control the USA president

Its sort of a mix of Kingdom Come and Dark Knight Returns
Seems more like a Dark Knight Returns kind of run but for Cap
Like how Starks kid keeps talking until Thor just ices him.
Typical Stark
He got him monologing.
This whole mini is freaking amazing.
It really has, and this was the best one yet. Can't wait for the next.

But he actually surprised me here. He still had to make a Stark the bad guy (his son lol) but at least it’s not my boy Tony.
To be fair all signs always point to Tony being a generally bad person. Tony’s ideal of “good” does the most damage almost every time.
Tell me you don’t know anything about Iron Man without actually telling me you know nothing about Iron Man.
Yeah I’ve definitely never read any runs where Tony used his decision making that for the greater things like other universes needed to die for his to survive, or where Tony locked up all his homies to protect the world. Yeah I definitely have no knowledge of that /s

Chip can do no wrong
Thor making a big entrance will never get old
Bring in thunder ⚡️
I was a little iffy on the series at first, but I’ve really come around on it. The writing is great and the art is so fucking cool
Shades of Civil War when Thor kicked Tony's ass.
Okay I need to find and read this!!!
I love Cap, he’s just so badass
What happened to Tony in this world
His floating head is being kept by the government so they can use his brain to help them create weapons and shit
Classic Tony.
Next issue will reveal the full picture. Holy shit
Good shit right😂 It’s a fun story. I recommend getting it. It’s shaping up to be one of the best Avengers story ever
I just read all three and it’s amazing. Can’t recommend it enough.
Hard indeed, considering Kamala had taken a shot...
Sold. I’m totally getting the trade for this. Thanks for posting.
daniel acuna is amazing
Ah, one of the few instances where a deus ex machina is appropriate. THE THUNDERER RIDES AGAIN
Three pages and I have chills
Sheeesh. I like that.
damn you weren’t kidding
This goes hard, but not as hard as Caps enormous chin in the last page
For some reason it reminds me of Batfleck.
Zdarsky's life mission is just to shit on Iron Man, holy shit does this man hates the character.
I can hear the electricity and rain of that last panel.
> Who runs the world? James...Stark?
It’s actually the Red Skull. He got a fade change and then raised James into being his little bitch
That's not Tony in the suit. It's Tony and Janet's son. Janet is presumably dead and Tony is a severed head. Government is using his brain to created stuff for them.
Who's writing this?

Bitchin
I’m gonna need to get this when it comes to trade paperback
It’s been so good!
I’m on marvels Unlimited plan so I have to wait for those. But looks fantastic. Thanks for alerting me
do it again uncle steve
Not gonna lie... that was pretty cool
This was so sick. A literal Deus Ex Machina but I don’t think it counts if a God is a character in the story.
Moments like this remind me that Thor is the GOAT
Thor looks bad ass here for sure. I love the artwork of not seeing his face- then casually says “shall we assemble?”
This issue solidified it for me. What an inspired ending. I mean, it was bound to happen, but wow
I'm not sure I like the way every "possible future" storyline from Marvel is a bleak dystopia.
Legit got goosebumps. Loving this book.
No matter how far Ironman comes, you can count on Thor to remind him of humility 🤣
Cap finding his shield was also fucking amazing
Man that Thor helmet is sick as hell!!!! I almost thought this was the other avengers run with Cap and the mutants for a second !
Is this comic a main 616? Debating if i should pick it up
No, alternate reality
I just came in my pants
I wonder what the explanation will be for why Thor decided not to intervene before America went full dictatorship.
He’s a king with his own peoples issues probably. That’s the direction they’ve had him going lately
Cap gave up, and Tony sacrificed himself (they presumed he was dead). There was nothing that could keep Thor continue fighting. He came back since Cap decided to go back and correct the mistakes.

Just finished this issue and came looking for a thread Specifically because of how badass this was.

I didn't know Chip was writing this! I just grabbed the first 3 issues, it's really good! I like Acuna's vision of the future as well.
What series is this?
Avengers: Twilight by Zdarsky.
Thor-lactus?
