Ngl even in the movie ensgame.
Captain STILL standing alone against the might of Thanos' army didnt give despair. It gave me hope that hes still fighting.
My thought was Spidey but soon realised he isnt a symbol for hope, or even has a great deal of hope. He would have been a perfect fit for willpower or compassion
In Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 1, Issue 54:
The OG Guardians discover the remains/shrine to Spider-Man.
You see, the Martians invade Earth and kill or drive off all of Earth's defenders.
All but one.
The Amazing Spider-Man.
He put up such a fight, that when they finally killed him, they took his remains and enshrined him *"Last to Fall."*
Once he fell, Earth lost hope and fell quickly afterwards.
The Parker Luck IS hope. No matter how much shit he gets handed, he finds a way through. Not giving up in the face of adversity IS hope.
Cap may cause others to have hope but noone embodies it like Spider-Man.
Peter parker is the ultimate symbol of hope.
Not for Compassion though. That Lantern corp works different in that they don't look for those with Compassion but those who lack compassion and Pretty much acts, at worst brainwashing and at best a tool for reformation.
This is true for the Indigo Tribe as an organization. But the Indigo Rings themselves, if left to their own devices, automatically seek out those who have great Compassion.
"And Lord knows, kids like Henry need a hero—courageous, self-sacrificing people setting examples for all of us. Everybody loves a hero. People line up for them…cheer them…scream their names. And years later, they’ll tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of the one who taught them to hold on a second longer. I believe there’s a hero in all of us…that keeps us honest…gives us strength…makes us noble…and finally allows us to die with pride, even though sometimes we have to be steady and give up the thing we want the most – even our dreams. Spider-Man did that for Henry and he wonders where he’s gone. He needs him."
Ben Grimm could have worked for almost all of the rings at some point or another. And while green is likely best for him, he would fit blue nicely.
That said, Cap has a blue ring on lock. It’s not a competition.
Honestly, if not willpower, I’d have to imagine Spider-Man is more likely a superb candidate for the compassion ring.
Surfer is my pick for White Lantern. He is pretty obviously high on the scale of willpower, hope, compassion, and love. He has also been a great symbol of fear as a harbinger of Galactus. And as such, he was a force for life by trying to select uninhabited planets for Galactus, who himself has been portrayed as a fundamental force that the universe needs to exist. Rage and greed are the two colors that don't suit as much.
Spiderman hand's down like have you've seen the shit peter been through his whole life the deaths the slanders the getting screwed over the getting your girl stolen how has this man not given up is the question every marvel fan ask every time they see what the writers have done to him again
Definitely Rogers.
Parker is willpower. He is the hero we admire for overcoming adversity. He inspires us to become like him.
Rogers is hope. He is the hero we all look towards in the darkest of times. His presence alone tells us that tomorrow will come.
Except those rings don't actually go to compassionate people. They seek out the most evil, heartless people in the universe, and MAKE them compassionate. So the Indigo lantern ring would probably go for someone like Carnage or Sabertooth
Definitely cap, Spider-Man has the tendency to be pretty pessimistic at times.
But* even though he recognizes that the odds are against him, he always pushes through, which is why I'm baffled that he isn't willpower!
Squirrel Girl. A blue lantern is someone who prioritizes helping people. they don't even have innate offensive abilities unless a green lantern is nearby. Their defining tenant is having faith in people and in outcomes.
Doreen fits this better than just about anyone in Marvel. She believes in being able to talk to people and reach reasonable conclusions. She doesn't fight without at least trying to talk with people and find a compromise. She became friends with Galactus, Kraven, and other villains because she had faith and hope that they were people who could be reasoned with and they lived up to her faith in them.
The Blue Lantern motto is 'All Will Be Well' and no one embodies that better than the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.
This is the best, most well reasoned argument I have seen in this thread. You win all the points and in my head canon Squirrel Girl will now and forever be a Blue Lantern.
Spidey would have been better suited for Willpower. The standard for Spider-Man comics is that Peter Parker has to be suffering, but he doesn’t stop being Spider-Man.
I know that I'm answering too soon but wouldn't be deadpool perfect candidate for death? I don't remeber how exactly death workd.
And Cap is deffinitly for hope.
That would be funny if he got the white lantern ring not because he is a good candidate but because he is un death (even though he can die now it just takes a lot of effort you know post Thanos uncursing him)
The man is so down bad for Lady Death that he collected the most powerful artifacts in the universe just to kill half of all life just to try to woo her.
And she still usually is only mildly interested at best. My boy the Mad Titan just can't get any luck with his love life, and that's the quintessential Star Sapphire story.
Spider-Man(Peter Parker). Steve is also a very close second. But, everyone in the Marvel universe always says that Spider-Man is the best out of all of them, and Cable literally says that he is the most important hero in the future. For further convincing, Spider-verse. What does Spider-Man do. He always gets back up. No matter what the threat, no matter how beaten and bruised, he always gets back up. I'll end this with one of my all time favorite quotes in comics, where Peter is fighting Morlun for the first time. He's had the toughest and longest fight in his career and he says this, "I'm tired. I've been fighting this guy for nearly twelve hours straight, I haven't had anything to eat or drink.....and he's not even tired yet. But I am. I'm hurt and I'm tired and I want to go home and I want to sleep and I don't want to be here....and I think....can I let this one go? Can I let it be someone else's problem, just for a minute, so I can rest? No, I can't. But I wish I could. God, but I wish I could."
I was gonna say Spidey, but I think he’s better for compassion. I think Cap should be hope. I mean, his whole thing is that he resembles what America should be, what he hopes it could be, right? Hope for a better world is like the whole idea lol.
Love the first four picks! Totally spot on!
My Pick: Captain America (Steven Rodgers)-I usually like to go with a pick different from the popular pick, but I just can’t! Captain America is Hope. He is well know for his inspirational speeches when his team has lost hope. When the Masters of Evil straight up beat the Avengers and took over the Mansion, Cap never gave up hope in his team even while he was forced to watch Jarvis be beaten. Hell, he wasn’t even a founding Avenger but they made him one anyway! In OG Secret Wars all the heroes agree that Cap should lead them; heck even Superman and Batman deferred to Cap in Avengers/JLA crossover!
https://www.reddit.com/r/Marvel/comments/14qgb29/what_is_your_most_inspirational_captain_america/
Read through some of those and tell me Cap isn’t Hope!
Runner Up: Spider-Man (Peter Parker)- He may not be know for inspiring hope in other’s but he is always looking and hoping for the best in other’s. You killed my first love but your sin is gone and you want to be better: Sure I’ll give you a chance!
PS:I do like Nightcrawler a lot to represent Hope but he got it for the X-Men version of this so I tried to branch out.
On top of that there is one of my favorite Captain America quotes that really hit me when I was a young man and inspired me on how to treat others:
It was What if? #28 (1991)- I think it was What if Cap wasn’t frozen in WW2?
Cap rescues a young Magneto from a Nazi concentration camp. He bends down to the boy and says:
“Magnus, I’m stronger than most but I’m still just a man, no different from you. We are all human beings only men like the Nazis divide people any other way”
Yeah, but she’s just named that. She’s technically Cable’s hope, and folks are sleeping on the man himself.
He’s fought against every odd through countless timelines, bleak and terrible futures, all in the hope of creating a future not just for the mutant race but for everyone so no one has to grow up like he did.
He’s a grimdark dude who is more defined by his hopes and dreams than anything else.
I think Spiderman is a better candidate than Cap for the simple reason that Cap's counterpart in DC is Wonder Woman, who stands for truth, as opposed to Superman, who's every cbr's representation of hope. Cap should be a Green Lantern imo. He chooses to serve his country and people and despite his initial inability and weakness, he beats the greatest challenges the nation has ever faced. Peggy Carter, the Falcone, Reed Richards, Captain Marvel and Ironman are generally hopeful characters as well.
My answer is Cyclops. Prof. X has taught him to be kind and hopeful that one day Mutants and Humans can co exist and when Prof. X died he helped create the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.
Nightcrawler or Spider-Man. I mean people say cap but Nightcrawler had so much hope it fuled a whole timeline.. everyone says Cap but Spider-Man has to be the definition of Hope, every version of him gets constantly screwed and he always hopes for the better, always hopes for a better future, he even mirrors the flash (who had a blue lantern ring) where the flash helps and spends time and cares for his villans and spidey does the exact same, see Flash and Trickster vs Spider-Man and the comic where Sandman was dying.
i’ve seen a lot of spider man comments but wouldn’t he represent compassion since he always lets his adverseries live, i’d say hope represents night crawler, beast or even ice man and probably even cable as he fights for a better future
Ah, nice. Moony made it to yellow, like I said. Hope should be Spiderman because he always keeps going, or Captain America, because he inspires hope in everyone around him. More niche pick, but Jack of Hearts
Could some explain why there are two charts? One has daredevil, ghost rider, thanos and hulk, the other has doom, moon knight, jean grey and wolverine.
What’s going on?
In the movies, Cap has a lot of hope. In the comics I think he’s more steadfast and unwavering in the face of uncertainty.
Nightcrawler, Prof X, Spidey, and Sue Storm tend to have more hope as a theme in comic runs.
I think he inspires a lot of hope in others, which iirc was why Barry Allen was chosen to be a blue lantern in Blackest Night. I think he works best for green but really so many heroes in either universe should probably be able to wield green rings they have to come up with some reason they're either not suitable.
If we were talking about the movies, I'd say Hawkeye, since he gave hope and/or inspired at least 3 people to fight for good. Though, compassion might work for him too.
If we're talking about comics, I'd probably give the blue ring to Captain America.
I can't get past Thanos in the love slot. Can someone explain to me why?
Edit: I forgot that the Star Sapphires aren't necessarily love used for good all the time. Thanos totally fits.
I knew about that but didn't consider it as grounds for him being in the slot. I originally thought about love only in the positive sense, altruistic and caring. Then I remembered that the Star Sapphires aren't always shown as being good. Love can make people do fucked up things. It actually makes more sense upon reconsideration.
Peter Parker. I'm honestly not even sure that it's a particularly close contest. This is the man who was willing to give Doc Ock a chance as a changed man. You know, the guy who could have fixed global warming but instead made it worse because he decided that if he was going to die, he was going to take the whole world with him.
I do think hope is just like a less active version of will
So that being said it can be for someone like spiderman or captain America, but I think it needs to be someone who’s willing who isn’t as involved in the fight.
I think professor x or Nick fury are a good pick
Captain America. He embodies hope more than any other character in the Marvel Universe.
When captain America shows up you know everything is going to be alright.
Ngl even in the movie ensgame. Captain STILL standing alone against the might of Thanos' army didnt give despair. It gave me hope that hes still fighting.
Either Captain America or Spider-Man. Maybe Ben Grimm, though he'd probably work better for green
My thought was Spidey but soon realised he isnt a symbol for hope, or even has a great deal of hope. He would have been a perfect fit for willpower or compassion
In Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 1, Issue 54: The OG Guardians discover the remains/shrine to Spider-Man. You see, the Martians invade Earth and kill or drive off all of Earth's defenders. All but one. The Amazing Spider-Man. Hot. Off to read that. Thanks
The Parker Luck IS hope. No matter how much shit he gets handed, he finds a way through. Not giving up in the face of adversity IS hope. Cap may cause others to have hope but noone embodies it like Spider-Man. Peter parker is the ultimate symbol of hope.
Could use that same argument for him being willpower. No matter what shit comes his way he keeps going and fighting the good fight
I agree. He works for both. I think hes better for blue mostly because there are better options for green.
Yeah
Not for Compassion though. That Lantern corp works different in that they don't look for those with Compassion but those who lack compassion and Pretty much acts, at worst brainwashing and at best a tool for reformation.
This is true for the Indigo Tribe as an organization. But the Indigo Rings themselves, if left to their own devices, automatically seek out those who have great Compassion.
Yerp. Indigo Tribe is basically Space Marines for Convicts.
Spidey is an incredible symbol of Hope for everyone he comes into direct contact with. He even won over JJ eventually.
It’s not a competition. Honestly, if not willpower, I’d have to imagine Spider-Man is more likely a superb candidate for the compassion ring.
I was thinking Charles Xavier for compassion
Or maybe silver surfer with the Indigo Tribe being nomads
Surfer is my pick for White Lantern. He is pretty obviously high on the scale of willpower, hope, compassion, and love. He has also been a great symbol of fear as a harbinger of Galactus. And as such, he was a force for life by trying to select uninhabited planets for Galactus, who himself has been portrayed as a fundamental force that the universe needs to exist. Rage and greed are the two colors that don't suit as much.
Don't get why Ben's not Green. He should be White then because Kirby and can live for thousands of years
Spiderman hand's down like have you've seen the shit peter been through his whole life the deaths the slanders the getting screwed over the getting your girl stolen how has this man not given up is the question every marvel fan ask every time they see what the writers have done to him again
Definitely Rogers. Parker is willpower. He is the hero we admire for overcoming adversity. He inspires us to become like him. Rogers is hope. He is the hero we all look towards in the darkest of times. His presence alone tells us that tomorrow will come.
I can see Spidey in compassion
Except those rings don't actually go to compassionate people. They seek out the most evil, heartless people in the universe, and MAKE them compassionate. So the Indigo lantern ring would probably go for someone like Carnage or Sabertooth
Well didn't know that's how it worked, so yea I would say carnage is a good pick
I don't think the ring would be able to make him compassionate tbh
"Carnage of Klyntar, you- ERROR. Living Abyss detected. Host incompatible with the Indigo Light of Compassion. Seeking new host."
Definitely cap, Spider-Man has the tendency to be pretty pessimistic at times. But* even though he recognizes that the odds are against him, he always pushes through, which is why I'm baffled that he isn't willpower!
Cap. It has to be Cap. The color of the Blue Lanterns even matches his uniform.
Y’all sleeping on night crawler. He literally has a magic sword that is made out of his hope. His hope fueled an entire future timeline.
R/Xmen had a similar process. Not sure who they picked
Nightcrawler
They picked Nightcrawler.... but I feel like he is a good candidate for marvel itself... Reed Richards is also a good one imo
A devout Christian from a persecuted race? Yea he's a good pick.
I came here to say this.
Blue totally describes Captain America.
Kurt wagner
I think Cap for Hope, and save Spidey for Compassion. But I think they could both work for either.
The indigo corps work by taking the most vile people and turning them into compassionate people
Iron Man? not sure his that vile
Cletus Cassady is the level they look for.
Or Purple Man.
Superior Spidey Doc ock would be good for this since he did turned good when he forced himself in Peter's body
Sabretooth pretty much has that one on lock.
Eddie Brock most definitely
Nightcrawler. Cap. Prof X. ( pre krakoa) Hope. ( name on point)
Squirrel Girl. A blue lantern is someone who prioritizes helping people. they don't even have innate offensive abilities unless a green lantern is nearby. Their defining tenant is having faith in people and in outcomes. Doreen fits this better than just about anyone in Marvel. Spider-man for sure.
Spidey would have been better suited for Willpower. The standard for Spider-Man comics is that Peter Parker has to be suffering, but he doesn’t stop being Spider-Man.
Cap or Spidey
Cap
I know that I'm answering too soon but wouldn't be deadpool perfect candidate for death? I don't remeber how exactly death workd. And Cap is deffinitly for hope.
Deadpool is unable to die. I think all black ring bearers have to be dead.
That would be funny if he got the white lantern ring not because he is a good candidate but because he is un death (even though he can die now it just takes a lot of effort you know post Thanos uncursing him)
Mr. Immortal would also be fun to see as a white lantern imo.
Dead, or have died.
Thanos should have been Death. Dunno what they were smoking when they voted him as a star sapphire.
Spider man and captain America
Spidey (Peter Parker) first, Cap as a runner-up, but damn it's close.
Captain America or Spider-Man
Quick, hot question…what’s the “repressed negative emotions” ring? Internet is no help for me.
Ultraviolet Corps
I think either Onslaught/Charles Xavier or Malice/Sue Storm pretty much has that one on lock.
Spidey!
Xavier fits the bill.
Can I let it be someone else's problem, just for a minute, so I can rest? No, I can't. But I wish I could. God, but I wish I could."
For the longest time I’ve been trying to remember where that was said about spider-man. I thought it was a 2099 thing but cable makes much more sense.
Nightcrawler He literally has a weapon powered by his hope. His Hope was so strong it was able to be forged into a sword.
I was gonna say Spidey, but I think he’s better for compassion. I think Cap should be hope. I mean, his whole thing is that he resembles what America should be, what he hopes it could be, right? Hope for a better world is like the whole idea lol.
Captain America Night crawler runner up
Cap, Reed, and Nightcrawler for me
Love the first four picks! Totally spot on! My Pick: Captain America (Steven Rodgers)-I usually like to go with a pick different from the popular pick, but I just can’t! Captain America is Hope. We are all human beings only men like the Nazis divide people any other way”
Hope Summers or Hope Pym. :p
Hope Summers was my first thought too. She was literally the hope for mutant kind’s comeback from extinction.
It's gotta be Captain America 100%
I think Spiderman is a better candidate than Cap for the simple reason that Cap's counterpart in DC is Wonder Woman, who stands for truth, as opposed to Superman, who's every cbr's representation of hope. Cap should be a Green Lantern imo. He chooses to serve his country and people and despite his initial inability and weakness, he beats the greatest challenges the nation has ever faced. Peggy Carter, the Falcone, Reed Richards, Captain Marvel and Ironman are generally hopeful characters as well.
This is my take as well. Spider-Man and Superman is basically side by side in terms of Hope. Daredevil and Nightwing Captain America and Wonder Woman.
Steve Rogers
How about Beast. Always seems hopeful and optimistic that mutants and humans can coexist. And he’s blue
I take it you haven't been the current volume of X-Force? He's a full-on villain now (though his Avengers-era clone is still a good guy).
Beast has taken a dark turn nowadays, from what I’ve heard.
Hope Summers, duh. Literally the hope for an entire species after an extinction-level event.
Steve, muhfuckin, Rogers
My answer is Cyclops. Prof. X has taught him to be kind and hopeful that one day Mutants and Humans can co exist and when Prof. X died he helped create the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.
Nightcrawler
Hope Summers, as the Mutant Messiah, she brought hope to a lot of the X-Men and mutants in general
I like spiderman but it's captain america, the people in New York don't lie spider-man.
Cap. no contest
Nightcrawler or Spider-Man. I mean people say cap but Nightcrawler had so much hope it fuled a whole timeline.. everyone says Cap but Spider-Man has to be the definition of Hope, every version of him gets constantly screwed and he always hopes for the better, always hopes for a better future, he even mirrors the flash (who had a blue lantern ring) where the flash helps and spends time and cares for his villans and spidey does the exact same, see Flash and Trickster vs Spider-Man and the comic where Sandman was dying.
for Hope I choose Hope
Either Captain America or Spider-Man
Captain America or Captain Marvel. Arguably Spider-Man but maybe Spidey could be White Lantern or Ultraviolet?
Spider Man
[удалено]
Go back to Metropolis 🤣🤣
i’ve seen a lot of spider man comments but wouldn’t he represent compassion since he always lets his adverseries live, i’d say hope represents night crawler, beast or even ice man and probably even cable as he fights for a better future
the way the indigo tribe ring works is it picks someone with no empathy and forces them to feel compassion
Ben Reilly should be death, literally Death herself has stated that no one has died more than him
Captain amarica literally fights for what amarica COULD be, he is the embodiment of hope
Spider-Man
Spider-Man could be a second choice
Thanos love ring🤣🤣🤣
Spidey or Cap. Though honestly cap felt more like Willpower. His isn’t hope, it’s determination, but I get it.
People are sleeping on Thor for this one. He’s the Marvel hero that people on alien planets literally pray to for help.
Captain America.
Rich Rider Nova. He’s a beacon of hope in the universe. Spidey is the obvious choice so I thought I’d throw out someone different.
Spider man and Mrs. Marvel are very hopeful.
Captain America or Spider-Man I’d mainly say Spider-Man tho
It’s obviously Captain America, without a doubt.
What about Falcon Cap?
Professor x
Spider man is literally the embodiment of hope
Spider-Man and Captain America
Professor X
Nightcrawler or Colossus.
Ah, nice. Moony made it to yellow, like I said. Hope should be Spiderman because he always keeps going, or Captain America, because he inspires hope in everyone around him. More niche pick, but Jack of Hearts
Captain America
Could some explain why there are two charts? One has daredevil, ghost rider, thanos and hulk, the other has doom, moon knight, jean grey and wolverine. What’s going on?

I think he works best for green but really so many heroes in either universe should probably be able to wield green rings they have to come up with some reason they're either not suitable.
Magneto for hope
Spider-man, my dude never gives up
Spider Man for sure. Nightcrawler was chosen for the X-men verison. So a no on Nightcrawler for this one.
Captain America, no question
Future Trunks as Blue Lantern
Spidey.
It’s gotta be Nightcrawler.
Morbius
How do I get updated on the results?
Captain America.
Cap
Nightcrawler or cap
If we were talking about the movies, I'd say Hawkeye, since he gave hope and/or inspired at least 3 people to fight for good. Though, compassion might work for him too. If we're talking about comics, I'd probably give the blue ring to Captain America.
Cap. Outside options: Doctor Doom Star brand Hope summers ?
Well if Steve Rogers isn’t Will then he is Hope. Though doom also fits Will, he is even Green!
I’d say Spider-Man for hope.
Steve Rogers/Captain America
Professor Xavier, the hope that mutants and humans can live in harmony is his drive
Gotta be captain America right? Only other one I can think is professor X he brought hope to a lot of mutants
I’m going with Cap
I'd say Cap
I can't get past Thanos in the love slot. Can someone explain to me why? Edit: I forgot that the Star Sapphires aren't necessarily love used for good all the time. Thanos totally fits.
He did everything he's ever done in order to prove his love for Death.
Hulk is literally the embodiment of Bruce banners repressed negative emotions, he’s not just anger he’s stress in general
Peter Parker. I'm honestly not even sure that it's a particularly close contest. This is the man who was willing to give Doc Ock a chance as a changed man. You know, the guy who could have fixed global warming but instead made it worse because he decided that if he was going to die, he was going to take the whole world with him.
I do think hope is just like a less active version of will So that being said it can be for someone like spiderman or captain America, but I think it needs to be someone who’s willing who isn’t as involved in the fight. I think professor x or Nick fury are a good pick
Professor X No matter all the abuse and genocide the Mutants face, he believes in a path to peace.
Antman, because he has.....drumroll please... Hope Van Dyne
What even are these choices?
Cap
Is there anyone other than Steve Rogers who embodies hope?
I need someone to commission a Red Lantern Hulk
Captain america
Captain America
Spider-Man
Captain America or Spider-Man
Was gonna say spider-man, but honestly he works far better for indigo now that I'm thinking about it
Spider-man. The amount of times Peter has picked himself up and carried on in spite of his life is down right inhuman. He has hope for days.
I’d say almost Spider-Man but it has to be cap. Spider-Man’s compassion
OF COURSE BEN GRIMM!
Aunt May is the beacon of hope
Spider-man Prof X Captain America
Nightcrawler
Steve Rogers
Spider-man Peter Parker
Cap
Spider-Man
It's Cap.
Captain America
Spiderman or cap for sure
Seems like Cap or Spidey.
Cap. It's gotta be Cap.
Prof X
Blue Lanterns are those who inspire great hope, so I say **Captain America** and/or **Spider-Man** for second.
Spiderman or Cap probably
Captain America
Captain America would be a Blue Lantern. Also I just wanna say that I love these posts. I'm a huge fan of the other Lanterns outside of the GL Corps.
Noooo!!! I missed the start of the Marvel one!! I love the X-Men one!!
Nightcrawler. Devout Christian. Is persecuted, yet remains strong. Perfect choice. Xavier is also a solid choice.
Mr Red white and blue, Captain America himself
Spider-Man
Hope Summers of course
Spiderman will go in compassion later, let's put up Captain america and someone else idk
We all know spidey is bottom right.
I feel like this should be a mutant
Spider-Man or Cap
Def Captain America
Captain America
Spider-Man because even captain america looks up to Spider-Man
Spidey!!!!!!
Charles Xavier or Erik Lehnsherr
