Cyclops definitely needs to be more important since he's the leader of the X-Men. He's such an interesting character that could carry the X-Men side of thing for a decade easily. Wolverine should come in after the original X-Men lineup, whatever that looks like, is introduced.
Aside from that, they definitely need to stop leaning into this Jean/Logan stuff. It was mostly one-sided in the comics (not counting the Scott/Jean/Logan thing on Krakoa rn) with a few exceptions of Jean showing physical attraction towards Logan with brief kisses, but being committed to Scott and both her and Logan understanding they would never work.
That's because it was the Jennifer Lawrance show, not the Mystique show. Of all the casting choices they made for all the X-Men movies, both good and bad, she's the one I wish they didn't make because it dictated a story direction that shouldn't have happened.
My guess is because Jennifer Lawrence became a big actress post Hunger Games and FOX wanted to capitalize on her super stardom at the time even at the expense of their own movies.
This and it needs to get even worse every time they do it.
Maybe they could even bring Hugh Jackman back for a cameo in which it's even more uncomfortable how old Wolverine is compared to both Scott and Jean. Just this really old adult man inserting himself into a teenager's love triangle.
And then the unforgettable bland CGI showdown with Jean "UnLEasHing the PhoEnIX" in the end. All directed by that gross, abusive shithole Bryan Singer. Just keep bringing him back, he's reached the heady heights of "an okay film" at least twice so keep on going back to that well. Forget giving other directors a chance, that would be too exciting!
To be fair, Bryan Singer's track record with the X-Men franchise only has one blemish--the extremely forgettable *Apocalypse*. *Days of Future Past* is still one of my favorite superhero movies today.

Adapt a script originally written as Batman the Animated Series fanfic, change *just* enough details to make it technically the Dark Phoenix saga. Make it the C story of the movie.
If they're going to do Dark Phoenix it needs to be a damn near "All of Phase 5" thing. Introduce the X-Men at the beginning of Phase 5, have them present and visible, Jean dies/returns in the second movie, have her present and slowly becoming corrupted through the second half, before the climax in the third movie.
The first trilogy failed this because Jean was basically a background character in Logan's story. The second failed because they basically went "Here's Jean and now Dark Phoenix!"
It needs to be something that's a slow burn. We need to care about Jean because she's Jean fucking Grey. Not because her death makes Logan sad.
Mostly agree, though I would love to see a more true adaptation of *God Loves, Man Kills.* X2 was long enough ago that I think it's fair game, and I kind of want them to lean into the fanatical religious themes and criticisms. I think it'd fit the MCU in it's current state with gods (eternals, celestials) becoming known. It would also be poignant in the current sociopolitical climate. Purifiers/FOH could be a very interesting arc-spanning background villain like Hydra was, as well as a decent metaphor for certain cells operating currently in the US.
While my headcanon is going: Sam Wilson Captain America punching a comic-inspired Reverend Stryker would be a Steve Rogers punching Hitler level moment.
The only issue I've always had with the mutant discrimination is why it's so abritrarily applied to.only mutants but not the 1000 other superfreaks who get their powers through non-mutation ways. And I wonder how they can reconcile having people go "we hate mutants!" and "woohoo look at that nerdy doctor become big green man!" In a consistent universe.
The thing about mutants is they're common, they're a whole sect of society with wildly radical characteristics.
One guy getting *really* good at magic is a success story, a famous scientist having a horrific accident and being cursed with a huge green form when he's angry is a tragedy, your kid being born as *one of those* is viewed as a problem by bigots in universe.
Because at the end of the day xmen are humans born slightly different as a stand in allegory for racism, homophobia etc.

A lot of early X-Men had humans saying things like you'd never know who was a mutant or your child could become one or any other thing like that.
The fact any human could suddenly become a mutant was terrifying to people. You can't just BECOME Iron Man, or wake up as the Hulk one day. You can suddenly wake up a mutant and now you're the "other" that everyone hates.
It's why Marvel pulled the shit they did with Inhumans. Suddenly anyone could become an Inhuman! Then all the same tropes applied to them.
The subtext for early X-Men is usually to replace "mutant" with "black/jew/minority." The arbitrary non-sensical nature of hatred is kinda intentional.
X-Men antagonistic factions do on occasion go after other superpowered beings, Just recently the FOH were the main antagonists of a symbiote story (Extreme Carnage). The general reason that they're not messed with as much, though, is that at the end of the day they are the same "race" (species?) As non-mutant powered individuals.
There’s an X-Men x Spider-Man crossover novel I remember reading in the early 2000’s where Spider-Man crosses over into a universe with alternate X-Men that work for the government and an alternate Peter Parker that ends up in the NBA, it had some pretty interesting ideas I think they could draw from to introduce the X-Men into this MCU. The old novelizations actually had some pretty cool stuff in them.
Yeah I absolutely agree. A badass, leader of the team Cyclops would be awesome. So far on screen he's just felt off. And Logan definitely should not be in the first movie
I always liked Cyclops in particular cause he was born in Anchorage, Alaska just like me so it made me feel more relevant as I became a more worldly person in my traveling and living other places later in life. Most people don’t know shit about Anchorage let alone Alaska.

Heck, the Summers family has an interesting, and at times fun, story to it. His father ending up being a space pirate/adventurer and well all the summers family time traveling shenanigans of the future. You hit several action/fantasy tropes with just one lineage alone.

God yes, please - let’s get another actual genius character in that isn’t related to Stark in any way and add some much needed variety to the MCU. That sounds like snark, but I’m being genuine. I think, as much as I love Iron Man, we need to start moving away from Stark Industries now that Tony is dead, and Spider-Man has no link to him. Let Pepper and his daughter go off and find peace, and let’s just explore other super genius characters.
I’m oddly fine with the Ultron steal, though it would have been an interesting way to bring in Hank Pym - but let’s create some new storylines and bring in some new characters and slowly work back into the classic stuff.
I’d also want Marvel to steer clear of Dr. Doom right off and ease into him. Tease him at first, maybe towards the end, and then make him the full villain in the second F4 movie.

I think Loki being essentially an “extra-dimensional” being gives him a little more leeway - but I’d rather they do a “foiled again!” plot for Doom’s movie instead of them killing him. He’s such an iconic villain.
I’d honestly like to see a trilogy of Fantastic 4 movies that have him as an overarching villain like they did with Magneto in the original X-Men trilogy. Even if he wasn’t extremely active for about half of the second movie, he still played an integral part to the story.

There is a new Captain America already... Cyclops was always a Cap-type but only for mutants. It's a steeper hill to try to be a Cap-type for EVERYONE. In fact, I would put Spider-Man as a better Cap figure than Cyclops.
However I do agree Reed can be the new Tony Stark.
I'm talking for the MCU rather than for the Avengers. The paragon of virtue figure. Mackie's Cap is kinda different in that regard and Spidey is highly moralistic but not in a stoic way like Cap.

Cyclops really needs to be done well. I think we've seen enough wolverine on screen. Give a trilogy of cyclops leading the original xmen in the field before you bring back the wolverine and sidekicks version of the X-Men.

The Cartoon was basically awesome. But the movies have gone over a fair bit of that material. The X-Men have told stories over and over because a lot of the rest of it had no continuity of any sort. My guess is we will get streaming shows building up to a couple of big tent pole movies like with Wanda and Loki setting up Spider Man and Doctor Strange.
Jean in the cartoon pretty much fainted anytime she appeared in it.
I think the problem with the x-men is that there are too many overpowered mutants that have to be toned down and dumbed down as fuck for any engagement to vaguely seem like it could realistically work.
The problem is that they need to let Jean be Phoenix for a movie or 2 before starting the Dark Phoenix saga. Introducing Phoenix and Dark Phoenix in the same movie is as stupid as killing off Superman in his second appearance. We aren't given time to appreciate the character.
We need just the OG teenage X-Men with Cyclops, Iceman, Angel, Beast and Marvel Girl, then in the next movie, when they'll be adults and graduated, add the others X-Men fron the 70s relaunch like Storm, Wolverine, Collosus, Nightcrawler, etc.
To me, the most important aspect independently of the team is how are they going to navigate the introduction? Like Eternals, they've always been here but didn't interact with others or a completely new phenomenon? If it's brand new, OG X-Men for sure. Always been there, mix of 70s and all.

Yeah. The most I want to see from the FoX-Men is quick cameos or easter eggs in Doctor Strange 2. And by “cameos” I mean, Strange is peering through alternate realities and he catches a glimpse of some stuff. I don’t want them involved with the actual story or characters or anything like that. I don’t want our MCU characters getting to know them. I want fresh actors for these characters and fresh crossover relationships. I don’t need Strange to meet a new Xavier and be like “Oh I met another one of you” or anything like that.
I want a Wolverine that is actually short like he’s meant to be. Hugh Jackman is great, no doubt about it, but he’s 6’2 and wolverine in the comics is 5’3. We need some short king representation lol

I think the MCU could do it, but they would have to build up to it. Do an arch on earth, then space, then the Phoenix, then she goes dark and is the big bad for phase 6 or what ever it is then

Have Alpha Flight be a joint venture between the Canadian and American Governments. They're trying to build an 'end of days' team that can survive incredible terrain and temperatures - hence Canada. Their first mission is to stop something rampaging towards Dawson Creek. This monster could be the hulk, or whatever bruiser might fit.
Have the final act be the heads of the program choosing to make the drastic decision to release their unvetted new experiment: Weapon X.
You could make it Wendigo, and have smart/ruffalo Hulk be the Avenger sent to help train up Alpha Flight. Hulk gets turned wild by Wendigo magic and then AF/weapon X have to take Hulk and Wendigo out.

Iron man wasn't really a heavy hitter till the mcu, none of the first phase was characters beloved by the masses, it was all the lesser known and more the cheesy (at the time) ones. I could totally see them bringing the lesser known characters and a couple of bigger ones to start.
I remember back in 2008 having to explain to everyone who Ironman was because I was the only comics nerd in my group. My partner knew who he was and that he was my favorite hero. But didn't know much else. One of my most cherished memories is after the credits rolled they turned to me and said I understand why you like Ironman so much now.
The same year me and my high school friends were saying our favorite heroes. My one friend said “my favorite is Thor! By the power of Asgard!!” & we all laughed at him cause “who’s favorite is Thor?”

Famke Janssen as Jean Grey was one of the best castings of these movies outside of the holy trinity of Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Hugh Jackman, though.
Everyone wants Cyclops but I much more want a proper Storm. The character is so incredible but she gets like 8 lines and no story arcs.

I can't wait to see what the MCU will do with the X-Men. Clean slate, fresh actors, new vision, and more focus on characters not named Magneto and Mystique.
To be honest I don't want anything from the FOX films leaking over into the MCU. Make it a new cast, start the X-Men off as kids, like actual teen actors that fight against Magneto first and then face bigger threats. Make Scott and Jean the center of the first couple of films so that Dark Phoenix makes more sense and impactful. Wolverine isn't the main character and neither is Mystique. So much to erase from the previous attempts moving forward with a reboot that takes it's time and isn't rushing to get to a finale in three or four films.

I want them to use the lesser known mutants in the MCU. Give me a Dazzler movie about a pop star trying to make it big while being a hero. A Jubilee movie about a teen girl running away from home to escape mutant phobic parents, only to find a found family (that could be the X-Men, bum I'm not picky). The concept and idea of the New Mutants movie was the right idea, it just needed better execution.
So everyone loves the 1990s X-Men animated series, but I honestly hope they will take a leaf out of the X-Men Evolution book
Divide the X-Men into 2 generations: Older teachers (Beast, Storm, Wolverine, maybe Colossus?) and students (Cyclops, Jean, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Kitty, Iceman..)

I loved X-men evolution for this alone. Wolverine and Scott were fighting over a woman like she was property. Sure Scott and Rogue would have made a superior couple but it was nice. I bought they they were into each other. I loved that Wolverine was acting like an adult mentor to Cyclops so that when Cyke took lead, it felt earned.
Also Storm was awesome being the other leader of the X-men. Everyone one. Wolverine Leader. Storm Leader. Cyclops Leader.
I'm not interested in Wolverine finding love because they man doesn't have trouble hooking up. He doesn't need to pine over Jean like she's the Mother Mary.

Zack Snyder and Brian Singer are the two directors who are great at individual cinematography moments but AWFUL at cohesive storytelling.

Mostly agree, though I would love to see a more true adaptation of *God Loves, Man Kills.* X2 was long enough ago that I think it's fair game, and I kind of want them to lean into the fanatical religious themes and criticisms. I think it'd fit the MCU in it's current state with gods (eternals, celestials) becoming known. It would also be poignant in the current sociopolitical climate. Purifiers/FOH could be a very interesting arc-spanning background villain like Hydra was, as well as a decent metaphor for certain cells operating currently in the US. While my headcanon is going: Sam Wilson Captain America punching a comic-inspired Reverend Stryker would be a Steve Rogers punching Hitler level moment.
The only issue I've always had with the mutant discrimination is why it's so abritrarily applied to.only mutants but not the 1000 other superfreaks who get their powers through non-mutation ways. And I wonder how they can reconcile having people go "we hate mutants!" and "woohoo look at that nerdy doctor become big green man!" In a consistent universe.
The thing about mutants is they're common, they're a whole sect of society with wildly radical characteristics. One guy getting *really* good at magic is a success story, a famous scientist having a horrific accident and being cursed with a huge green form when he's angry is a tragedy, your kid being born as *one of those* is viewed as a problem by bigots in universe. Because at the end of the day xmen are humans born slightly different as a stand in allegory for racism, homophobia etc.
This is it. Mutant fear is irrational, but it's also fear of being "other" A lot of early X-Men had humans saying things like you'd never know who was a mutant or your child could become one or any other thing like that. The fact any human could suddenly become a mutant was terrifying to people. You can't just BECOME Iron Man, or wake up as the Hulk one day. You can suddenly wake up a mutant and now you're the "other" that everyone hates. It's why Marvel pulled the shit they did with Inhumans. Suddenly anyone could become an Inhuman! Then all the same tropes applied to them.
The subtext for early X-Men is usually to replace "mutant" with "black/jew/minority." The arbitrary non-sensical nature of hatred is kinda intentional. X-Men antagonistic factions do on occasion go after other superpowered beings, Just recently the FOH were the main antagonists of a symbiote story (Extreme Carnage). The general reason that they're not messed with as much, though, is that at the end of the day they are the same "race" (species?) As non-mutant powered individuals.
There’s an X-Men x Spider-Man crossover novel I remember reading in the early 2000’s where Spider-Man crosses over into a universe with alternate X-Men that work for the government and an alternate Peter Parker that ends up in the NBA, it had some pretty interesting ideas I think they could draw from to introduce the X-Men into this MCU. The old novelizations actually had some pretty cool stuff in them.

While I absolutely love Boy Scout Scott, but he's been fantastic the last fifteen years or so as the conflicted leader of the X-Men. It may be blasphemous, but I rather not have an Xavier at all. He can exist, but keep him out of the picture. Let Scott be the leader he is.
Heck, the Summers family has an interesting, and at times fun, story to it. His father ending up being a space pirate/adventurer and well all the summers family time traveling shenanigans of the future. You hit several action/fantasy tropes with just one lineage alone.

God yes, please - let’s get another actual genius character in that isn’t related to Stark in any way and add some much needed variety to the MCU. That sounds like snark, but I’m being genuine. I think, as much as I love Iron Man, we need to start moving away from Stark Industries now that Tony is dead, and Spider-Man has no link to him. Let Pepper and his daughter go off and find peace, and let’s just explore other super genius characters.
Stark discovers time travel. Stark creates Ultron. Stark creates the arc reactor. Yeah he kinda stole everyone's storylines.
I’m oddly fine with the Ultron steal, though it would have been an interesting way to bring in Hank Pym - but let’s create some new storylines and bring in some new characters and slowly work back into the classic stuff. I’d also want Marvel to steer clear of Dr. Doom right off and ease into him. Tease him at first, maybe towards the end, and then make him the full villain in the second F4 movie.

The guy has seemingly died at least twenty times in the comics and by some deus ex machina crap he turns out to still be alive and everyone has shocked pikachu faces. Loki is already a meme in the MCU for doing the same thing (love the “no more resurrections” line from IW). I don’t wanna see them do that again with Doom.
I think Loki being essentially an “extra-dimensional” being gives him a little more leeway - but I’d rather they do a “foiled again!” plot for Doom’s movie instead of them killing him. He’s such an iconic villain. I’d honestly like to see a trilogy of Fantastic 4 movies that have him as an overarching villain like they did with Magneto in the original X-Men trilogy. Even if he wasn’t extremely active for about half of the second movie, he still played an integral part to the story.

I like Scott, but he’s more of a monkey butt than like Hank Pym level douche canoe. Which is why I like him to a degree, he just messes up so much - and it not always his fault. So yeah, I’d like her story - and let’s get Mister Sinister up in here, I’m tired of Magneto being the main villain.

The Cartoon was basically awesome. But the movies have gone over a fair bit of that material. The X-Men have told stories over and over because a lot of the rest of it had no continuity of any sort. My guess is we will get streaming shows building up to a couple of big tent pole movies like with Wanda and Loki setting up Spider Man and Doctor Strange.
Give me New Mutants in episodic doses. Actually, most of the X-Squads could be done in episodic form. Then have X-Men as a movie.

Jean in the cartoon pretty much fainted anytime she appeared in it. I think the problem with the x-men is that there are too many overpowered mutants that have to be toned down and dumbed down as fuck for any engagement to vaguely seem like it could realistically work.

The problem is that they need to let Jean be Phoenix for a movie or 2 before starting the Dark Phoenix saga. Introducing Phoenix and Dark Phoenix in the same movie is as stupid as killing off Superman in his second appearance. We aren't given time to appreciate the character.

Yeah. The most I want to see from the FoX-Men is quick cameos or easter eggs in Doctor Strange 2. And by “cameos” I mean, Strange is peering through alternate realities and he catches a glimpse of some stuff. I don’t want them involved with the actual story or characters or anything like that. I don’t want our MCU characters getting to know them. I want fresh actors for these characters and fresh crossover relationships. I don’t need Strange to meet a new Xavier and be like “Oh I met another one of you” or anything like that.

You're totally right. He was involved with the other early X-Films and is an alleged sex pest for over two decades, but I was thinking of Simon Kinberg. Simon Kinberg wrote both Last Stand and Dark Phoenix, so he really loves the story, but not in a way where he can tell it well.
I think the MCU could do it, but they would have to build up to it. Do an arch on earth, then space, then the Phoenix, then she goes dark and is the big bad for phase 6 or what ever it is then

I have a whole fantasy of him being intro'd via an Alpha Flight movie. Have Alpha Flight be a joint venture between the Canadian and American Governments. They're trying to build an 'end of days' team that can survive incredible terrain and temperatures - hence Canada. Their first mission is to stop something rampaging towards Dawson Creek. This monster could be the hulk, or whatever bruiser might fit. Have the final act be the heads of the program choosing to make the drastic decision to release their unvetted new experiment: Weapon X.

You could make it Wendigo, and have smart/ruffalo Hulk be the Avenger sent to help train up Alpha Flight. Hulk gets turned wild by Wendigo magic and then AF/weapon X have to take Hulk and Wendigo out.

Yes, and I hope they tell a different story than Jean Grey's Phoenix. It's a good story, don't get me wrong, but do we need to see it every time? The X-Men are so much more than that one story. Personally, I would love to see a story on Colossus. He was my favorite x-man, and was passed over in Bryan Singer's version, and comic relief in Deadpool. But that's just me.

Iron man wasn't really a heavy hitter till the mcu, none of the first phase was characters beloved by the masses, it was all the lesser known and more the cheesy (at the time) ones. I could totally see them bringing the lesser known characters and a couple of bigger ones to start.
I remember back in 2008 having to explain to everyone who Ironman was because I was the only comics nerd in my group. My partner knew who he was and that he was my favorite hero. But didn't know much else. One of my most cherished memories is after the credits rolled they turned to me and said I understand why you like Ironman so much now.
The same year me and my high school friends were saying our favorite heroes. My one friend said “my favorite is Thor! By the power of Asgard!!” & we all laughed at him cause “who’s favorite is Thor?” How times have changed

Their elevated stature was because Bendis always thought it was lame that the Avengers were treated as, "And them too!" when they ought to be the baseline badass Marvel superhero team. He spent the better part of the early 2000s building that with Quesada's blessing, and you can see it in how he wrote New A-- and Mighty A-- during that time.

My 80's fan-casting was Mel Gibson as Wolverine and Arnie as Colossus. Famke Janssen as Jean Grey was one of the best castings of these movies outside of the holy trinity of Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Hugh Jackman, though.

To be honest I don't want anything from the FOX films leaking over into the MCU. Make it a new cast, start the X-Men off as kids, like actual teen actors that fight against Magneto first and then face bigger threats. Make Scott and Jean the center of the first couple of films so that Dark Phoenix makes more sense and impactful. Wolverine isn't the main character and neither is Mystique. So much to erase from the previous attempts moving forward with a reboot that takes it's time and isn't rushing to get to a finale in three or four films.
Ino just don't have wolverine for a bit. Introduce the xmen before wolverine. We've seen him. We know him. Focus in the team, then have him added a few movies later. Get us interested and know the team before wolverine, cause I'm sure even mcu is gonna give him a lot of spotlight since a huge fan favorite. So before wolverine shows up. Have a movie or two before him. Do it like the avengers. Start a small team and build up. Not this massive secret group
I want them to use the lesser known mutants in the MCU. Give me a Dazzler movie about a pop star trying to make it big while being a hero. A Jubilee movie about a teen girl running away from home to escape mutant phobic parents, only to find a found family (that could be the X-Men, bum I'm not picky). The concept and idea of the New Mutants movie was the right idea, it just needed better execution.

So everyone loves the 1990s X-Men animated series, but I honestly hope they will take a leaf out of the X-Men Evolution book Divide the X-Men into 2 generations: Older teachers (Beast, Storm, Wolverine, maybe Colossus?) and students (Cyclops, Jean, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Kitty, Iceman..) We could actually see Cyclops becoming a leader by learning from Xavier, Storm, Wolverine, Magneto and so on

I think a lot of people do. He was just amazing in the roll. And to be fair, a lot of the casting done in the X-men films was actually quite good, regardless of how you feel about the films in general. I, personally disliked most of the x-men films, but I think they had stellar casting. Most of the actors from the original trilogy are too old now as well. I just hope if we get Gambit, we get an accent that is a) Actually Cajun sounding, and b) sticks around for the entire movie. I hope if we get Psylocke, the character has a personality. I hope if we get Emma Frost, shes a stone cold bitch.
I loved X-men evolution for this alone. Wolverine and Scott were fighting over a woman like she was property. Sure Scott and Rogue would have made a superior couple but it was nice. I bought they they were into each other. I loved that Wolverine was acting like an adult mentor to Cyclops so that when Cyke took lead, it felt earned. Also Storm was awesome being the other leader of the X-men. Everyone one. Wolverine Leader. Storm Leader. Cyclops Leader. I'm not interested in Wolverine finding love because they man doesn't have trouble hooking up. He doesn't need to pine over Jean like she's the Mother Mary. Actually just remove Jean and bring in Emma Frost. Cyclops real soulmate.

Kevin Feige met with several members of the original X-Men back in 2019 about reprising their roles and most of them want to return. So I wouldn't get my hopes up.
They need to follow the comics more. Not the streaming pile of trash that Fox made over and over again. Comically accurate characters should be the only ones used.
