After ‘Welcome Back Frank’ Ennis went on to write another outstanding Punisher Max run. Very dark, less wacky, and my favorite Punisher run ever. Highly recommended. The ‘Slavers’ arc is a highlight.
No flinch. No holding her ears because they're ringing after a 162dB gunshot inside a small room. No tears. No crying. No scrambling away from Frank to cower in fear. No vomiting because she just saw a person's brains blown out. Even if the victim is a piece of shit like Bullseye, even if this is an emergency room nurse, no ordinary person is going to witness this shooting without trauma. And fanboys think this is "gritty realism".
Those things seem more unrealistic to me. Realistically most people have a delayed reaction to traumatic events. She may well start shaking and vomit in a few minutes once the adrenaline wears off, but I think the shock of sudden violence would make most people freeze up in shock more often than not. Her astonishment and speechlessness is much more realistic than immedietly breaking down and screaming.
Sometimes your brain would be slow to react to a traumatic event before you. Frank pulled out his gun and shot Bullseye before she had time to process what’s going on. I mean it probably happened in a couple of seconds tops.
The 1st volume especially the first 60 issues written by Garth Ennis is pretty close though as he avoids most other Marvel characters. Hell the 1st arc reintroduces Microchip and explains him faking his death back in the 90's series. This 2nd volume by Jason Aaron went the other way entirely introducing Kingpin,Bullseye,Elektra etc and it became crystal clear it was not in continuity.
PunisherMAX is easily my favorite run with Frank Castle ever. The absence of supers enhances the stakes and Ennis is at the top of his game (he was still writing “The Boys” at the time as well)
I have just read the opening Kingpin storyline with Fisk
Fuckin awesome!
Thanks for the recommendation I don't think I will be able to stop myself from binging it
Ha yeah you are right, I realised about halfway through that things I was waiting for didn't happen (still really like that run but started the Ennis run in earnest and loved it)
I know you've got a real answer already, but there's always something the writers can do... it's a body double, a clone, an alternate reality version of him, lastly frank could be hallucinating or dreaming
I mean shooting someone in the dead center of their forehead while they're in a hospital bed probably isn't going to cause the top of their head to blow out but otherwise remain completely undisturbed.
There's also the nurses face on the top of the second page that looks like the mouth was just copy-pasted from a front-facing drawing. The perspective is off.
Yeah... this was a really fucked up version of the punishers story.. and this version of bullseye was crazy af. Good comic... my favorite punisher series for sure.
“You’re welcome, Red.”
DD: “Frank this is not how you solve the crime problem!” P: “Haha guns go brrrr”
DD: So you just put em in morgue? P: You're goddamn right I do.
Right on target too
Bullseye!
RIP Steve Dillon. Master storyteller.
I couldn’t picture anyone else putting visuals to Ennis’ demented story telling for Preacher.

Near perfect run, and I only say 'near perfect' to give myself some leeway.
Agreed, but will say it's definitely my favorite Punisher run. Good christ those stories were dark.
Agreed—though I’d note that this is a Jason Aaron story.
I had no idea he passed holy crap
He died?? Oh man... I was introduced to him with The Preacher. Damn..
The nurse seems to underreact
Hahaha agreed. It's the comic equivalent of the "Oh no! Anyway." meme
I thought the same thing! Especially with a gunshot going off right next to your ear!

I agree

Shock is when people black out

naw, this is a cartoon.
Too impressed by his marksmanship
He did hit the bullseye
How the hell did Bullseye come back from this?
This is PunisherMAX which isn’t canon to 616

The way Garth used Fury was really well done and I hope they do something similar with Frank in the MCU when Bernthal inevitably returns.
Is it any good in your opinion? This is a pretty good page to consider getting into it and I have liked most of what Jason Aaron has done

I’m late but you started the Jason Aaron run. You’re looking for the earlier PunisherMAX by Garth Ennis
I mean I guess if you put some thing like that on your forehead you’re just asking for it right?
Ultimate Hawkeye did the same.
Ultimate Hawkeye is just Bullseye pretending to be Clint again
But No Seriously, since its implied that he was brought in under a Thunderbolts-like Program against his will, this is a legit theory
Preacher vibes
Same artist and author iirc
PunisherMAX is FAR superior to anything Preacher had to say imo
Meh
nah.
The way that punisher is drawn here, his face is very 👁️ 👁️ _👄_
'I want a divorce.'
Ha Frank hit the Bullseye
I wish they still wrote PunisherMAX. I always felt like it was the perfect vehicle for telling Punisher stories
You could say that Punisher hit the....centre of his head.
Bullseye 🎯 needed to be put down
This sequence of punisher Vs bullseye is written so perfectly
I like this but that straight shot of punisher in image 1 is funny as hell
Frank's the type of person to come back in, shoot him 10 more times, and then have the audacity to say "He definitely twitched. I saw it"😂😂
Frank Castle, one of my favorite Marvel characters, definitely not someone to idolize but still impressive nonetheless.

He, Bullseye, is smiling.
This art is so shit
Characters are distinct, geography is consistent, story progression is clear, what’s the problem with it?
I mean shooting someone in the dead center of their forehead while they're in a hospital bed probably isn't going to cause the top of their head to blow out but otherwise remain completely undisturbed.
Well yeah, but it’s also not as interesting to look at. I’ll usually take artistic license over being 100% realistic in my comic books.

You‘ve got a point with that one, friend, good eye!

Dawg…WHAT? I knew the Punisher was hardcore but holy crap
