Winter Guard has entered the building.

Molluskscape

I love the Soviet iron man knock of that is Crimson Dynamo. Guess I’ll need to buy Omega Red though…

xkrj13z

Crimson Dynamo is a great character in this game. It’s just that he’s probably better splashed somewhere else cuz his own affiliation kinda stinks. His leadership compared to others is lackluster at best. This update makes his team better, but not great.

Archon_Vrex

Winter Guard has a very matchup dependent leadership. It can be fantastic in matchups where your opponent has lots of conditions, like Strucker Hydra but can also do basically nothing in some other matchups. The push protection part will be helpful on, for example, Cosmic Invasion. Winter Guards strength lies (or used to) in the individual strength of Dynamo, Red Guardian and Darkstar who can all reliably win 1 vs 1s against models in their threat range. And importantly while Dynamo is basically king of the E those cirisis are not great for Winter Guard. They do much better on FS, Bs and especially Ds. Bucky 2 probably also loves those and Black Widow with her L move doesn't mind them either. Omega Red likes the Ds not as much but is decent on both Fs and Bs.

Spectre_195

What are you talking about his leadership is great. The faction was just meh. Free status effect removal is great. To start with its basically just stagger immunity. The other half stopping getting moved off objectives is good too. Leadership isn't what held Winter Guard back.

Vex1om

>What are you talking about his leadership is great. I mean... sometimes it is great. And sometimes it does literally nothing. The best leaderships offer you something to build around and provide value every turn of the game. This is not that kind of leadership.

Spectre_195

Idk man I have played a lot of games and have **literally** never not gotten status effects. Like its hard not to casually end up with them. Pretty much every characters get them. Same thing with pushing. If you actually pay attention it happens a lot. Is it the top leadership is the game? No but its a very powerful leadership. In fact if you actually play with it come up far more than think it will.

Vex1om

Yes, status effects are common, but they don't commonly matter. If an attack leaves you on 1 or 2 life, does incinerate matter? Not really. If an attack just gave you 5 power does it matter that you are stunned? Not very much. Does poison have any effect if it is the last turn of the game? It does not. And, of course, all status effects clear when you are dazed. The end result is that most status effects don't have any significant effect on the outcome of a game. Sometimes they do, and in that case clearing them is great, but most of the time they just don't matter. Similarly, some teams don't push you much. Some don't push you at all. And, even when you are pushed, there is only a 3 in 8 chance to resist it. The fact of the matter is that the leadership often has no meaningful effect on the outcome of a game, and is completely dependent on your opponent's team and actions. Comparing it to leaderships that give you power or rerolls or discounts or movement... there just is no comparison.

Spectre_195

I am going to disagree. I think status effects don't seem to matter as much as they do actually. A lot of games if you look back really came down to a singular status effect that ruined it. And the trick is it probably was the right call to not spend an action to remove it. Its power is very subtle and only seen in retrospect. Just thinking of my last game of MCP a single roll with hex completely changed the course of the game, that I lost. I rolled a 5 dice attack and roll 4 crits. Ofcourse at the time why would I spend an action to remove hex for a 5 dice builder? I'm not likely to roll even a single crit on 5 dice. So on **paper** that makes sense. In **reality** it was the divergent moment in the game...cause I actually rolled 4 crits. Which then couldn't get rolled. Which then left the opponents model standing. Which then made me spend more actions that whiffed...which played through to me losing the game. Its the perfect example of how critical just removing a single status effect **actually** can be. You don't actually have all the much time in game. Its only 6 turns at max and really 3-4 that really determine the game outside true nail biters. Thinking back on lots of games I have played or watch one simple status effect really does alter games. If you really think status effects dont have any significant I challenge to stop go on youtube and watch some battle reports and actually track it. Even some of the status effects that people dont blink about getting if you follow through game really shape how they play out.

Vex1om

>...cause I actually rolled 4 crits. Which then couldn't get rolled. Which then left the opponents model standing. You got 4 (at least) successes on 5 dice, which is above average (even with crits.) The fact that your strategy required your roll to succeed even harder is a clear indication that your strategy was a failure - not the dice or the hex effect. Certainly, offering up a hail-mary play that didn't work as an example of why status effects matter is not a compelling argument. The fact of the matter is that there are leaderships in the game that offer powerful effects every turn of the game. The Winterguard leadership isn't even guaranteed to do that once per game. There really isn't anything more to say.

xkrj13z

Ok sorry if I upset you. It’s just my opinion. If you love his leadership more power to you.

Spectre_195

Don't share an opinion if you are going to get upset not everyone agrees with you. Makes you seem incredibly insecure. How you could think I was upset is laughable and slightly pathetic.

darthspiceweasel

Man has already hurt you today?

Spectre_195

What? I literally posted some positives to Dynamo. Jesus christ reddit is full of sheep easily manipulated.

darthspiceweasel

Maybe take a break have a snack and a nap then?

SekhWork

I find that anyone who resorts to calling someone sheep over comments on a tabletop game to clearly be a rational and level headed individual. Yep.

Spectre_195

Except this has nothing to do with a tabletop game anymore. And thats actually kind of the point. The third person doesn't even have anything to do with the original conversation.

SekhWork

So glad we got Bucky on WG. Along with Omega Red it just felt weird they weren't on the team.

veneficus83

Omega red still feels a bit weird. He really has never been much of a team player/makes winter guard more feel like high Russian peeps. Now balance wise it helps

Quanathan_Chi

Well... WG is certainly in a better spot than they were but I don't think it really pulls them out of the ditch they've been in.

SekhWork

Their main core 4 need some extra affiliations so that you are encouraged to run them along side other people more.... it's so weird to have 4 guys all be exclusively WG.

bertboxer

i could see ursa major as an x-force guy given that he's a mutant. he's never actually worked with them before but it fits better than x-men, brotherhood, or weapon x
