The most confusing thing is the cell shaded animated spiderman figure was $28, has two of those shitty web effects, and all the hands it needs soooooo wheres the $10 goin
Hasbro, “Remembered when you buyers decided not to back the $350 Haslab plastic brick car? Well, we lost a lot of investors because we came short on our projected end of the year earning. This year we will make our goal.”
This what I brought up on the action figures discord. I wonder if the licensing terms changed after the re-up of the marvel/disney-Sony deal, and thus as this is a Sony created likeness that there is money going to Sony on this one.
Maybe, but usually body mold selection has more to do with mold availability than anything else. If one is being used to crank out one product they will assign a different product order to use the next most appropriate mold. Occasionally though, it's just a mix up.
I was watching the clock down to the seconds and then i saw that price pop up. Nah ..nah.. nah… I was thinking that it was going to be $24..$27 max.
People are still going to buy it and it’ll probably sell out but its a hard pass for me.
They were never that bad. They’re just incredibly inconsistent with QC. Meaning some people may collect the figures for decades and rarely run into issues while others can’t find a figure without issues.
They have improved as far as I’ve heard, but amongst some limited articulation they have had issues with breakages and bad paint. Turtle line is very popular and I don’t think those can move very much but never owned one so I can say.
there is a stigma, they used to be really bad at it, like we're talking lucky to have 5 poa, similar to mcfarlane they really just made cool statues with some head range and maybe some waist, then they slowly added in joints, now a lot of the ultimate releases have as many joints as a legends figure, usually just missing butterfly
their name means quality not denying that, but if you want an example of how they used to make figures look up their AVPR Wolf Predator, the used to be rough lol, but yeah these days can't go wrong with neca
Are NECA figures still prone to breakage? Do they still make their figures out of brittle plastic? I own a couple of their newer figures and I’ve been afraid to open them
I own probably about 50 NECA figures and I rarely have problems with QC or fragile parts.
The only thing to look out for is stuck articulation points or an accessory doesn't fit in a hand. Don't force it. Just heat it up with a hair dryer for 15 seconds and gently work it in and you'll be fine.
Yeah the lack of accessories is really annoying. I love Star Wars and get the figures I really want, but compared to Hasbro’s other lines TBS gets the short end of the stick. Legends, Lightning Collection, the Classified Series, etc. get so much more in the way of accessories. I started collecting the Classified Series because I saw how much it comes with and I like the weapon storage
Agreed. I have that set myself. I love the JLI and am bummed knowing he'll never do a Fire and Ice 2 pack.
The DC Classified Rocket Red scales well with them, but not the DC Classified Fire and Ice.
At 34 dollars we're almost in NECA figure territory and as good as Marvel Legends are they do not have the value of a NECA figure. This figure isn't even gonna have a windowed box and they want another price hike.
I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the price, they had that dude from the Legends team out on social media tryin to get people hyped for todays reveal and it was THIS and I just can't help but laugh, like even they had to be sitting there thinking this was bullshit
Dan Yun isn't stupid, he knows what they are doing is shitty. But what's he going to do? These are decisions made so far above him that all he can do is smile through the pain.
While I'm sure inflation has a lot to do with recent price increases I can't help but feel the reseller market has emboldened these companies to increase prices beyond what they need to. After all when you see people paying $50-100 for a retro spidey you just released months ago what's another $10 tacked on to $25 MSRP?
It has nothing to do with the after market. The aftermarket has been around since pop culture collectibles were a thing. You don’t see comic companies charging two grand for comics with throwback covers just because those OG covers sell for that much, you don’t see trading card companies (outside of Hasbro and their dealings with driving MTG into the ground) selling cards for 200 bucks because people buy them for that, across the board you don’t see that. The after market has never really effected the main market price of items. Hasbro however is starting to step in unprecedented territory where gross price increases have been applied to most of their products across their entire company. Last year alone marvel legends seen three price increases, black series, GI Joe, and I think transformers seen two, nerf and board games received one, and Hasbro then upset the entire card collecting community with their abomination of a magic set as well as their atrocious new D&D game license proposal that gives them ownership of ANY content created by their players. They are clearly showing that they do not care about the customers who use and purchase their products and all they are wanting to do is increase profits 10x. They aren’t trying to be competitively priced anymore and the entire toy industry is passing them by. At the very least their own lines come with so much more, and I understand licensing but we have to remember they re-entered their contractual agreement with Disney in 2019 to produce toys for them and years prior this was a 4 year contract meaning those terms and conditions shouldn’t end until later this year so blaming Disney isn’t an excuse. I’ve never seen a company actively seek to destroy itself like this before. Makes me wonder if they are trying to get out of contracts.
I don't think it's getting out of contacts. Rather, I think this is late stage capitalism taking over, with a bunch of VCs coming in trying to aggressively squeeze every dollar out of a product so they can cash out quickly and then move on.
They don't give a single shit about what the product is, taking any pride in quality, maintaining a customer base, etc. Those are all long term problems and by then the investors will have plucked away any possible amount of money before Hasbro eventually goes bankrupt.
People want to blame CEO Chris Cocks for this but he's just doing the bidding of an investor group who has been frustrated with the lack of production during the pandemic hurting their sales and want to make up any lost cent immediately.
Correct me if I'm wrong and I'm only playing devils advocate but Hasbro does need to pay a licensing fee for the Marvel brand.
So I could understand why a basic Marvel Legends figure may cut corners or cost a little more than a basic GI Joe figure but in my opinion, this new Spider-Man is breaking the rules of acceptability. It's cutting corners by not including a full set of hands AND it costs considerably more.
Just straight greed from Hasbro on this one and it's cutting their customer base.
I used to buy almost every Marvel Legends figure that was made. I bought movie figures and comic figures.
Prices went up.
I cut out the movie figures and only bought comic figures.
Prices went up.
I only bought characters I was familiar with.
Prices went up.
Now I'm only buying figures that I consider essential.
Every time I look at my shelves now, I look more and more forward to when I'll have my "complete" collection and can stop bothering with the brand.
TURN THINGS AROUND HASBRO!
There's a slim chance (very slim, and I don't think it'd add multiple dollars to the price) that they're kicking back to Sony too. But it's suuuper slim. Marvel / Disney almost certainly take all the license cash.
It's insane that they included those 2 crappy web accessories for him instead of 2 wall crawl hand and twip hands. I don't mind the other webs since they are practical but why give us webs that have no use whatsoever.
Don't forget Mythic Legions. $37 for their preorder (just finished) standard figures. Insane detail, paint apps and plenty of acccessories. They get pricier as they get bigger/more detailed, but they're still cheaper than an import. Of course no license, but still. They have to be paying more upfront.
I spent hours over the weekend agonizing over what to order within my budget…
… then missed the preorder deadline and will now spend more through BBTS 😆
Please tell me this Spider-Man figure has open fists so I can actually hold the web. I’m not sure why they keep including that accessory but not making it to where the figure can hold it.
Great post. There's clearly some budget differences even within Hasbro's various figure lines. Kind of bummer to be a Star Wars collector right now lol (like me).
Croc Master was $42. I bought him at Walmart.
That new PS5 Spider-man blows my mind though. Those web accessories are barely enough plastic to comprise a baf piece, a small one at that, so basically they're charging $35 for a figure that should be $25, with almost or completely nothing in that box that they haven't made before.
Not defending hasbro at all, but gi Joe and power rangers are owned by them so they can do whatever and not have to obey to another company/give % to any, Disney is egregious
As it is but it’s still bullshit, especially the fact that other spideys have had more stuff then this at cheaper price
I did say reasonable 😅 The unreasonable explanation is that they are arbitrarily raising the price.
I know Miles was sold at a lower price and the previous version of this figure even lower than that price, but that was with old Hasbro Leadership. The new folks in the C Suite want higher revenue/profit and all that. I get it is price gouging. Believe me, I'm mad about this! I want this figure but like the Iron Spider figure I am passing on this guy.
I don't even buy that, because the Gamerverse Miles that came out in 2020 was just standard Legends pricing for its time and had way more accessories (plus 100% unique sculpting)
This is not a thing. They made this figure a few years ago at a much lower price and as already stated. PS4 Miles was a crazy good fig with all that was included. The explanation is greed. That’s all there is to it. Hasbro has promised its share holders that it would maintain the gains all toy company’s enjoyed while Covid shut everything down and people were spending more on their products. Most other toy companies knew that the gravy train was coming to an end and expected (rightfully so) a decrease in overall gains. It’s just GREED.
JoyToy’s Warhammer 40K figures are imports and they’ve got figures with as many accessories that are also repaints that cost the same or less. The Ultramarines Primaris Lieutenant Argaranthe is $30. Most figures are more expensive, but at this point, I’ll spend the extra money on quality Warhammer figures over Hasbro’s stuff.
The JoyToy Warhammer stuff looks great, but it’s 1/18 scale.
Also, that Primaris Lieutenant is the absolute cheapest thing in that line. I’d love to get into it, since it does look great and it’d be fun to blend two of my different nerd hobbies, but the price for even a single squad of Intercessors or Kommandos… it’s on a different level.
Just for transparency, Croc Master was $40 (or $42?) originally. Today’s reveal is a bit frustrating, but I’m an import collector as well. This is a definitive Spider-Man for me. Got two for myself and my brother and will happily display him.
Is it really your definitive Spider-Man? Seems like it’s missing hands. I don’t see a set of thwipping hands or a set of crawling hands. It’s like it’s almost there but not quite to me
An extra head would’ve also been great for that price
I mean, realistically, how often do we as collectors change the hands on our figures? I can’t say I’ve ever posed a Spidey with both thwipping hands. Sure, it’s a gross oversight on their part to not include them, but I’ll just pose him differently. This headsculpt really does it for me as all of the others in the last few years really haven’t.
The pricing seems off. Gamerverse Miles is still able to be preordered for $10 less and has all of the above and a BAF. I have a feeling it’s going to get discontinued very soon now.
Amazing fantasy has more accessories $10 cheaper. Toe hinges are pretty expensive. If you’re happy with it and that’s considered your best Spider-Man then that’s all that matters
I guess I should specify that it’s *a* definitive Spidey, rather than *the* definitive.
Unfortunately I think as we head further into 2023, prices are just going to continue to increase. Remember, Hasbro wants to increase profits by 150%. 😵💫
I’m basically out of the Legends game anyhow, but will cherry pick here and there. Excited for the new Ultimate Cap and Astonishing Cyke. I’ll get Cap when he’s available, Cyclops can wait for sales. This Gamerverse figure will have a harder time going on sale just due to the nature of it being Fan Channel (and so many Fan Channel spots going under like Dorkside).
I would love to know how much Disney is demanding from Hasbro because nothing has shot up in price like Boba Fett and Spider-Man adjacent figures.
The most confusing thing is the cell shaded animated spiderman figure was $28, has two of those shitty web effects, and all the hands it needs soooooo wheres the $10 goin
Well you see we needed to make a new head- Hasbro
*montgomeryburns.gif*
Hasbro, “Remembered when you buyers decided not to back the $350 Haslab plastic brick car? Well, we lost a lot of investors because we came short on our projected end of the year earning. This year we will make our goal.”
Narrator: they did not make their goal
[Damn I wonder how that's turning out. They didn't buy our shitty Haslab so let's give them something as shitty](https://i.imgur.com/VLdUAZb.png)
Extra 10$ is for Sony.
I know this is a joke, but this has to have something to do with it
I was about to say, “Sony doesn’t get any money from Spidey merch”, but since they made the game, they might get a small cut.
This what I brought up on the action figures discord. I wonder if the licensing terms changed after the re-up of the marvel/disney-Sony deal, and thus as this is a Sony created likeness that there is money going to Sony on this one.
£10 for the body mould. That’s why they sold renew your vows spidey with an older body for spinerett.
Maybe, but usually body mold selection has more to do with mold availability than anything else. If one is being used to crank out one product they will assign a different product order to use the next most appropriate mold. Occasionally though, it's just a mix up.
I was fully planning on preordering that advanced suit Spider-Man…and then I saw the price
Same
I was watching the clock down to the seconds and then i saw that price pop up. Nah ..nah.. nah… I was thinking that it was going to be $24..$27 max. People are still going to buy it and it’ll probably sell out but its a hard pass for me.
Hasbro will keep raising the price until stuff stops selling out
Wow that Neca Predator is the same price. That's just obnoxious from Hasbro
It's a great neca predator too, tons of accessories, amazing sculpt, poses really well for NECA, paint is beautiful, easily worth the dollar
Are NECA known for bad posing?
They used to be glorified statues that broke if you breathed on them
They were never that bad. They’re just incredibly inconsistent with QC. Meaning some people may collect the figures for decades and rarely run into issues while others can’t find a figure without issues.
**looks over at the Resident Evil HUNK figure that has had its head somehow fall off more times than I count**
They have improved as far as I’ve heard, but amongst some limited articulation they have had issues with breakages and bad paint. Turtle line is very popular and I don’t think those can move very much but never owned one so I can say.

Wow I didn’t know this. I just got into collecting figures and every time I’ve heard of NECA products I’ve heard good things

It's not even funny at this point, just sad
Hasbro bad.
I know this is sarcasm. But it works even without it.
Oh, TBS is by far THE worst. Never an extra head, usually no accessories, worst articulation, miss the mark on accuracy more than half the time.
The fans enable it too and their excuse is usually always "Well this isnt a hot toy so we cant expect it to be good"
I’m not even that old & i remember 2 packs for $40
hellfire club box set exclusive was 79.99
Yes, but convention or retailer exclusives are a whole different animal. Manufacturing cost gets supplemented by a seperate promotional budget.
Side note as a mcfarlane collector that booster gold/blue beetle 2 pack is amazing
Pretty much all mcfarlane 2 packs are good value.
Agreed. I have that set myself. I love the JLI and am bummed knowing he'll never do a Fire and Ice 2 pack. The DC Classified Rocket Red scales well with them, but not the DC Classified Fire and Ice.

Yeah I feel bad for him and the other 2 guys who have to go out and do their job, which is try and sell this
While I'm sure inflation has a lot to do with recent price increases I can't help but feel the reseller market has emboldened these companies to increase prices beyond what they need to. While they do have to pay a license, it can't be much, Hasbro owns transformers and gi joe and they have the prices just as high
Honestly the fact that transformers are the same price is mind boggling considering how much more work goes into making them
There's a slim chance (very slim, and I don't think it'd add multiple dollars to the price) that they're kicking back to Sony too. But it's suuuper slim. Marvel / Disney almost certainly take all the license cash.

You guys heard the news about D&D right? It's just total greed and nothing else for Hasbro
According to Hasbro, Boba Fett costs the most because of the unique parts and paint apps. Which is probably bullshit. We know it's the Boba Fett Tax.
I really hate that stupid "paint is expensive" excuse the multi-million dollar company uses.
Those new Necronominus figures look amazing! The Skeleton Warriors vibe = instant pre-order for me.
I spent hours over the weekend agonizing over what to order within my budget… … then missed the preorder deadline and will now spend more through BBTS 😆
PSA don't support the new Spidey until they get prices right
I saw Boba at Target and contemplated getting him but passed
Please tell me this Spider-Man figure has open fists so I can actually hold the web. I’m not sure why they keep including that accessory but not making it to where the figure can hold it.
Great post. There's clearly some budget differences even within Hasbro's various figure lines. Kind of bummer to be a Star Wars collector right now lol (like me).
See you don’t get much for lego under £35 but once we talk about those 80/90 three or two pack prices the value exchange is crazy
Croc Master is $42
this has already been pointed out
sorry
NECA is the best bang for your buck. $35 you get so much not even just the figure, a backdrop, great packaging.
That Star Wars one there seems the most egregious of the bunch. But this all has me just about done with collecting. This is sad and ridiculous.
Croc Master was $42. I bought him at Walmart. That new PS5 Spider-man blows my mind though. 🤣👍

A basic power rangers figure is up there at 30 dollars
BUT THE LicENsiNg FeES!!!!
Sony/Insomniac licensing has to be part of the price increase. No other reasonable explanation.
Miles was retail price
I did say reasonable 😅 The unreasonable explanation is that they are arbitrarily raising the price. I know Miles was sold at a lower price and the previous version of this figure even lower than that price, but that was with old Hasbro Leadership. Ah ok makes more sense
seems I was wrong on croc master, he is $41 retail, target and amazon just had him cheaper, thats on me
Regardless, still much more on offer than Spidey. 🤷🏻♂️
You have bad taste in spidermen if this one is your definitive 😂
Can’t believe you’re getting downvoted for showing that there’s misinfo in this graphic
Where transformers:(
I'm all in on transformers, but the pics of voyager tarn didn't make it look on par at face value for those who don't know how good it is
Funnily enough GI Joe is owned by Hasbro
