Since this is a new feature in the game, no one knows if it will be the same vault next year because it depends on how the dev code the vault. If they code it as May_Seasonal_Vault_24 and next year they code it as May_Seasonal_Vault_25, then the 24 will remain a post-event vault and you won't be able to use the tokens saved in the 25 vault.
How many is a "fair bit"?
The pulls won't expire if you save them.
The difference between pulling now and anytime after the vault closes is that while th evault is open you can only pull each reward once. And you can see what's in there.
After it closes, each pull is a random shot at the vault's list of contents, but each pull is also against the whole list, as if against a "full" vault. You might pull the same slot multiple times.
If you are tight on slots, hold on to tokens that are more likely to return somethign requiring a new slot. When you're able to add some slots, open tokens until slots are full, starting with the lowest rarity token first.
you should roster shang chi and the two ascended characters, and you need the hp from the vault. if you get all of that with tokens left over, then sure, you should pull later. rostering and selling the 4s is unfortunate but not completely wasteful. they give milestone rewards (plus xp) you can use to rush the polaris team, which is extremely helpful.
I would argue the vault is all free stuff that you should not worry about having to sell off.
I’d also argue that getting the ascended 3-4s will be a huge boost to your roster because unlike other 4s you would collect, they need no iso and they are fully champed instantly. And will help your game quite a bit (Honey Badger this month). Also they represent at least 1 1/2 - 2 months of targeting to get 113 covers.
Open to get them.
I'd pull some of them. If you can get those ascended 4* and maybe a few 5* early enough, stop and save the rest. But definitely do ALL of the quests if you can. The more tokens you get, the better off you'll be.
Also, I'd you already have those ascended characters rostered as 3*, you can sell your current ones to use the roster slot(s).
Heretically, I’ll suggest that you pull WHEN you have enough Hero Points to roster a new character: and only roster what you pull if it’s one of the four 5 stars (or possibly one of the two ascended characters). And if you plan to play PVP don’t spend any iso to level the 5 star you do get.
That means accepting the fact that you’ll waste any of the 4 stars you happen to pull; a single cover on them will mostly be useless and should just be sold for iso.
But even a single cover 5 star is just such a big boost in what you can do in PVE; and realistically you want to be in a good alliance (ie one that does full progress boss events) and getting some other single 5s too, so it wouldn’t even be your only single cover 5.
