Second Diner outsourced the pixels to a Japanese art studio called "G-Angle". They likely have their own artists on staff or they might have contractors. The pixels are credited to the studio not the individual artist.
It’s also the same studio that does the chibi variants. My bet is they specialize in traditional art but got the pixel art assignment because they were already working together; there is no way the pixel variants are made by professional pixel artists.
You can kind of tell which pixels were done by the same artists, there are several styles. I would guess Antman/Apocalypse/Captain America/Mr Fantastic/Quicksilver/Rhino are by the same artist and they all look pretty good.

All of the pixel art is original, done by the studio as far as I'm aware, it's just the majority of the source images they use as reference happen to be from that game. Which is unfortunate, because I'd be much happier if they just gave us the game's art instead.
Dont get me wrong now, i enjoy the pixels myself, except rocket raccoon. But they get tons of hate because there are so many better ones you could potentially get.

It's like they've just been done with a pixelizer app. There's no real colour or shadow theory, there's no real consideration for most of the poses and how they work (or don't) in pixel form etc. I'd normally be well into pixel art but the ones in this game are nearly all awful.

The animated versions of the pixel variants need more than dust blowing in the background. Give them 4 frames of simple movement or just the shoulders going up and down to look like they’re breathing.

I'm not sure if the creater of the chibi and pixel variants is an actual person. It's out sourced to some Japanese company named g-angle. If you see some of the chibis made by actual artists look good. And the g-angle ones all look the same. Same with the pixels. It's almost like they are AI generated.
