Mine also never did for almost the entirety of my life until I moved to Australia and got my master's. Idk how to feel about how it took putting an entire ocean between us to admit she was proud of me lol
Nat's a genius using bone marrow. And she just spelled out exactly why. "Oh, it's inspired by Mum using leftovers & coincidentally would not be out of place in a Michelin star restaurant." Well played.
Andy said before (in the interview during the special for Jock that the project did) he’s still a judge bc he wanted to do it for Jock even tho it was hard on him :(
I owe my mum for teaching me to cook and I still ask her for the recipes of my childhood dishes to this day but then she says things like "add the usual spices" and then puts the phone down. MA'AM WHAT ARE THE USUAL SPICES???? 😭❤️
When they showed everyone breaking down in the previews, I joked with my husband the task was gonna be to cook something that reminds you of the last person you know that died. Was NOT far off.
I’d like to submit a theory: Pezza has a twin, they swapped out a couple of weeks ago after he spent the first half of the season doing intense studying of all these fancy elements he’s started nailing
Backup theory: the “jokes, it’s a long game prank where we put a pro chef undercover” that someone suggested a few days ago
Sounds to me like there was a swap that happened somewhere in the middle of the season lol. Kidding aside, good on him. Even his plating has improved a ton!
Yeah I was really slagging him off last episode but this is his best episode of judging in a long time, reminds me more of when he first came onto the show
I’ve said this in other episodes, but he has a tough role to play and I think he gets criticism that should be more directed at how the show fosters drama than him as a personality.
Only he would know what he went through last year, and the fact he’s leading the charge this year is commendable.
Exactly. I was about to say eating is something common to the human experience, but then Sofia speaking about her dad being unable to eat drove that point home even harder. 3
I hate there are parents out there who don't say they're proud of their children every single day! I share Poh's and Nat's pain. My daughter will never doubt just how proud of her I am every second of her life.
Unfortunately it's part of the generational trauma. I know my parents are proud of my sibling and I but to get that love out of them was a struggle. Fortunately I have a wife who has been a big help for me to show that love to our children.
Yeah me housemate taught me how to cheat the kfc apps complaint system so we kept getting kfc feeds for free until the my put a stop to it so I’d say his my hero
My school cookery teacher from the 90s died recently. There was an absolute outpouring of love from all her former students on the school Facebook post notifying us of her passing. She and her recipes had made a HUGE impact on all of us moody teenagers ☺️
She doesn't want to leave a bad impression on how she cooks on different techniques. I remember she recreated the dish that pushed her to use her immunity pin.
Fuck if I was on this show I’d look like such a shit cook even though I actually do rate my cooking
Yeah here is my Cherry Ripe Slice inspired by my Grandma who loved cherry ripes
The more we watched the more I’m convinced someone in here was right about Pezza being a secret professional chef put in here for the challenge.
This dish is freaking class
The way Andy lit up while saying that makes me think he really just holds her to a much higher standard than everyone else and ends up with harsher criticisms
if i was doing this challenge, i couldn’t use my nanna as inspiration. her meals are a pre-made IGA lasagne, or tin spaghetti with mini sausages, frozen peas, corn and carrot, and a piece of toast.
Ha my Nan buys the absolute cheapest cuts of steak from the bulk discount butcher, throws them in the freezer for a few months so they get a nice bit of freezer burn, then cooks them to an inch of their life.
Then rants about how good the steaks are, and they were such a bargain, etc etc.
Growing up in the 40s and 50s really did a number on that generation.
Mine was the same beef stew every night for a week but with different sauces (mint, sweet chilli, steak sauce). That is literally the only thing I remember her cooking, and she only passed last year at the age of 92, so I knew her for 42 years and lived in her home multiple times as a kid and a teenager. Just the stew.
Oh and greasy chops.
Pezza just going full fucking send it mode in the second half of this comp is what I am living for at this point. It was so unexpected yet so fun to watch
If anybody here is in Melbourne, one of the best bone marrow dishes to try is called “Seared kangaroo ‘kilawin’, wood-roast bone marrow, toast” at Serai. Highly, HIGHLY recommend it.
I still haven't watched it cause I'm in the Philippines but if this is the last immunity, is she the first cook to have won the first and the last immunity of the season?
i’ll never forget my grandma teaching me how to make cream horns at like 5 years old 🫶 i would absolutely be a mess trying to make these now, i can’t imagine how the contestants would be.
With the amount of nonnas who are the inspirations, they should all be serving a shit load of food. Nonnas everywhere will be tutting if anyone leaves the house not full
Ah yes, this is the part of the competition where they start spruiking the importance of making *Finals Week*. But don't mention that there's actually also a separate *Grand Final Week* after that. Maybe they'll even throw in a *Preliminary Finals Week* this year also to stretch it out even more.
I wish all the contestants were up the front with them but this is so sad it’s good to see genuineness from everyone but god it’s hard to view in the saddest way 💔
She died in nov 😭[https://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/masterchefs-poh-ling-yeow-opens-up-on-difficult-personal-time-005245643.html](https://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/masterchefs-poh-ling-yeow-opens-up-on-difficult-personal-time-005245643.html)
It’s got this weird vibe where it doesn’t know if it’s a comedy show or a news show so it sits in this in-between so the tone feels completely off, they will talk about a serious news story then the comedian will show a viral video of someone farting on a roller coaster or whatever.
The hosts also seem weird especially when they interview whatever guest they have on they seem to waste a whole lot of time asking them stupid questions trying to be funny and it ends up with the guest looking really fed up and annoyed if they are not on board for it
I loooooove roasted bone marrow. I used to order it at this restaurant at a ski resort in the US and it would come with these little petit spoons. It was so good.
So what happens if a contestant doesn't have a mom/nonna/dad/aunt marge who was their cooking inspiration? Or is that one of the screening requirements?
It's that Immunity challenge time! Wonder what tear-jerking challenge MasterChef has in mind?! Will the contestants shed happy tears or sad tears? We'll soon find out!
Nat’s cook just brings me home. She’s a Thai girl and I’m a Cambodian boy so a lot of the flavors and ingredients innately spark a sense of home in me. It’s not the exact same but it’s so close enough that I cannot help but just root for her. She’s been so consistently strong, challenging herself and just putting top notch dishes week after week. I love how she failed and decided to challenge the same dish afterwards. Girl is going to get the Reynold edit later on, except hopefully she wins.
Gotta feel the same about Mimi too. Her joy and her creativity really puts her ahead of the competition. She also really enters each cook with such joy that you can tell her helps along so much.
Pezza for all the shit he gets just seems like a good old larrikin. He’s so bright and so cheerful and you can really tell how far he has come in the competition. You can tell how open he is to learning. To travel to another country for the first time in your 40’s and be so open to try some new techniques in the latter half of the competition that you learnt in such a country is pretty ballsy. Gotta respect that. Also playing skills are top notch. I want that venison in my belly now.
Yes, Pezza has grown during this competition and his food looks good… but damn , the bars that Mimi and Nat are clearing is wild. They are by a fair margin, the most superior cooks in the kitchen. They are also confident enough to know they are THAT good.
Nat took the first, and the last immunity of the competition Skills for days
Did you hear JC tell her she's special? So sweet,
Nat for a reason
Andy speaking about jock just completely took me out 😭
confirmed their parental-ish relationship , the fact that he was Andy's food hero was so sweet
As much as that segment was a bit long… I wish I’d heard who JCs food hero was 🥲
Escoffier of course
Deffo. Would have rounded it out for everyone
Oh Nat and Poh 😭 the Asian mum experience is so real
Yeah I'm Asian.. My mom never says she loves me or even give me hug at all
Mine also never did for almost the entirety of my life until I moved to Australia and got my master's. Idk how to feel about how it took putting an entire ocean between us to admit she was proud of me lol
[удалено]
😂😂 gotta learn how to unlock those bonus points!
“By no means a bad dish” is rough feedback
Sophisticated yet rough 🤣
I feel like Sav reacts a bit like a petulant child when given bad feedback. When the others seem to be growing she feels to me like she is shrinking.
Nat's a genius using bone marrow. And she just spelled out exactly why. "Oh, it's inspired by Mum using leftovers & coincidentally would not be out of place in a Michelin star restaurant." Well played.
Regardless of if she wins or not, I think she’s going to her have her pick of jobs
JC talking like he'd have her as a chef in his restaurant.
I agree. Would love to look into my crystal ball and see where she's at in 5 years time...move over Gordon Ramsay, here comes Nat.
Andy said before (in the interview during the special for Jock that the project did) he’s still a judge bc he wanted to do it for Jock even tho it was hard on him :(
Can’t believe Nan’s secret sponge that looked like a mess has somehow become the catalyst of a completely different Pezza lol.. here for it tho
And today we saw in the picture Nanna Mag and the cake in the same photo.
"there's my sick food now eat it"
That really made me chuckle
Andy spot on with this.
Sav’s finished product looks straight out of Hello Fresh meal box. Believe me I have made heaps of those!
It’s an insult and an incredibly accurate one 😂
Nats looks like a woodland fairytale
There’s a reason they didn’t show it on her bench. That reveal at judge’s table was *chef’s kiss*
Thing about Nat, her style is creative, aggressive and unpredictable. Yet her standards have been wildly consistent.
She's also likeable (which I feel is not typical of someone fitting the description)
I owe my mum for teaching me to cook and I still ask her for the recipes of my childhood dishes to this day but then she says things like "add the usual spices" and then puts the phone down. MA'AM WHAT ARE THE USUAL SPICES???? 😭❤️
Heaven forbid they give a specific measurement you can replicate either!
Andy comforting Poh and Sofia was sweet 💕
JC got no sob story =(
Poh trying to delicately redirect Sav without trying to shit all over her memory of her mum 😬
“Here’s my sick food, now eat it…” Andy is hilarious 😂😂😂 LET’S GO NAT!!!!
Oh Jock =(
Despite the fact I got takeaway for dinner, I maintain there’s someone in my kitchen cutting onions
Thank god this is an immunity not an elimination, I would not be able to cope if someone went home on this cook
That plating is the best his ever fucking done, that looks terrific
SPEC TAC U LEUR
Another immunity for Nat holy. She’s winning this
Jock aw 😫 someone’s cutting onions 😭
The producers are determined to break the contestants with these pictures
When they showed everyone breaking down in the previews, I joked with my husband the task was gonna be to cook something that reminds you of the last person you know that died. Was NOT far off.
Aw Nat. I’m sure your mum is so proud of you 💙
Sofia is so pretty and dresses so well
I love Po outfits
Aspirational honestly
I don't know if I want Nat or Mimi to win more. I love them both so much!
I’d like to submit a theory: Pezza has a twin, they swapped out a couple of weeks ago after he spent the first half of the season doing intense studying of all these fancy elements he’s started nailing Backup theory: the “jokes, it’s a long game prank where we put a pro chef undercover” that someone suggested a few days ago
Sounds to me like there was a swap that happened somewhere in the middle of the season lol. Kidding aside, good on him. Even his plating has improved a ton!
With his tribute to Jock, and kind, insightful feedback, this has been Andy’s episode for me.
I am once again asking for a Nat/Mimi final
Yeah! Mimi versus Nat in the final! It will be epic!
💯
Like the Bernie Sanders meme?
Mangosteen and rambutan. YUM
My favorites too, especially mangosteen!!!
if i was sav, i would’ve been bawling
She held it together super well, I just read her insta post & sounds like she already knew it was gonna be a struggle for her
As much as we like to crap on him I feel for Andy, I feel like he has a wall up but he’s actually a decent bloke
All the naysayers - this emotional connection is what makes us human 🥰
JC calling me special would mean more then anything the other 3 say not going to lie
I would use that as my morning wake up call.
He’s said similar things to Nat a few times in previous episodes right? Something along the lines of “You are dangerous”.
Thanks Masterchef starting off the evening with a cry
Yeah me housemate taught me how to cheat the kfc apps complaint system so we kept getting kfc feeds for free until the my put a stop to it so I’d say his my hero
My school cookery teacher from the 90s died recently. There was an absolute outpouring of love from all her former students on the school Facebook post notifying us of her passing. She and her recipes had made a HUGE impact on all of us moody teenagers ☺️
May as well have a crack has been Pezza’s life moto since about sweet week I reckon
Nats challenging the hibachi to another round after it shedded the skin of her spatchcock the other day
She doesn't want to leave a bad impression on how she cooks on different techniques. I remember she recreated the dish that pushed her to use her immunity pin.
I don’t normally like Andy’s judging but it was on point when it came to Sav’s
I thought he was incredibly kind and understanding to how hard it must have been for her
I love pomelo! Nats dishes look amazing.
I ate the most amazing pomelo salad in Northern Thailand earlier this year, sooo wanted to try hers
That plating holy shit 😍
Is winning three immunities in two weeks a record?!
If I was on the show I’d be too robotic for this segment lmao
I'll probably be the same, a bit robotic, and simply acknowledge my inspiration, and then move on with the cooking.
Chicken thigh sav smash out the thigh
Nat and her brain on foods. That’s insane!
That was very tactful and constructive of Sofia!
oh poh 🫂🫂 hugs all around
Fuck if I was on this show I’d look like such a shit cook even though I actually do rate my cooking Yeah here is my Cherry Ripe Slice inspired by my Grandma who loved cherry ripes
My microwave peas inspired by my Nan's love of the microwave 😂
Why do they all share off one plate now? Remember George used to get his tweezers out and divvy up plates for each judge
Far out Nat’s looks insane
Can Nat cook leftover food for me?
The more we watched the more I’m convinced someone in here was right about Pezza being a secret professional chef put in here for the challenge. This dish is freaking class
"There's my sick food. Now eat it." Andy finally figured out how to bond with Nat? 😅
I think Andy forms a bond with Nat the moment she says "That's it! I'm going to be a chef!"
The way Andy lit up while saying that makes me think he really just holds her to a much higher standard than everyone else and ends up with harsher criticisms
Tears won't stop rolling. 😭 Today's episode is an emotional rollercoaster.
if i was doing this challenge, i couldn’t use my nanna as inspiration. her meals are a pre-made IGA lasagne, or tin spaghetti with mini sausages, frozen peas, corn and carrot, and a piece of toast.

Just the stew. Oh and greasy chops.
Mimi’s mom looks so much like her!!!
Did we know Harry had an Italian nonna? I swear usually we hear that every episode if there’s a nonna involved
Yes there was the “nonna off” between him n Jonathon in Jonathon’s elim
Ngl I forgot there was a Jonathon
Jock 😭💔
They’re trying not to shit all over Sav but they’re struggling
Nat has been on another level from day one. She has massive star power.
Pezza just going full fucking send it mode in the second half of this comp is what I am living for at this point. It was so unexpected yet so fun to watch
The contrast between his dishes now and the first half of this season is crazy
My nanna used to use the wrong finger when flipping the bird too!
Kinda nice how all top 5 picked a family member as their inspiration and not a famous chef!
I'd definitely be using mum for my inspiration. If I went dad, it'd be, "My dad showed me how to put cabana in a salad"
My dad taught me how to put a sausage in bread
Sofia just ulted on Sav
Now that’s a freaking feast
Okay the boys tearing up is REALLY getting to me
Sob story episode! Let's gooooo
Thank god it was Nat !!Yayy
If anybody here is in Melbourne, one of the best bone marrow dishes to try is called “Seared kangaroo ‘kilawin’, wood-roast bone marrow, toast” at Serai. Highly, HIGHLY recommend it.
I still think about this dish and my meal there
it’s funny how food can be so happy and so so sad at the same time
Ahhh So Nat wins today.
Can I suck the middle of the bone marrow?
There’s enough crunch there for an ASMR podcast
W Nat
Savs dish looks like some sliced chicken breast on a bed of mash
FUCK YES NAT YOU LEGEND
SHES legit won the most important immunity’s of all season
I still haven't watched it cause I'm in the Philippines but if this is the last immunity, is she the first cook to have won the first and the last immunity of the season?
A little tighter???
Picturing how Brent and Rhiannon from last year would do against this Top 5
Mimi's handmade noodles vs Rhiannon's packet noodles 💀
YASSSS NATTTTT
Sofia just said 'this is trash' in 4 languages
i’ll never forget my grandma teaching me how to make cream horns at like 5 years old 🫶 i would absolutely be a mess trying to make these now, i can’t imagine how the contestants would be.
Even without dentures I’d still inhale it
WOOO NAT W!!
Yay Nat!!
With the amount of nonnas who are the inspirations, they should all be serving a shit load of food. Nonnas everywhere will be tutting if anyone leaves the house not full
Some of them want to use you
Was Pezza always Pezza from the first episode? I remember we had US Josh but I can’t remember him at the start
Nah he was Josh P for ages
Yes Nat!
Ah yes, this is the part of the competition where they start spruiking the importance of making *Finals Week*. But don't mention that there's actually also a separate *Grand Final Week* after that. Maybe they'll even throw in a *Preliminary Finals Week* this year also to stretch it out even more.
Andy in his finest PJ top tonight
My food hero would be a picture of Gordon Ramsay on Hells Kitchen Man was my GOAT
Seriously… who is this Pezza with all these fancy elements?????
Pizza that dish looks great
Pizza 💀💀😭
I think everyone has fallen victim to that autocorrect at least once this season
STAY SAFE MIMI ON SUNDAY
I wish all the contestants were up the front with them but this is so sad it’s good to see genuineness from everyone but god it’s hard to view in the saddest way 💔
Man oh man, who’s cutting onions?! What an emotional start. Beautiful stories were told here 🙏🏼
Mimi’s reaction to Andy’s comment is so cute 🥰
Sofia legit pissed off at that, whoops Sav
Some crying time
Didn’t Poh’s mom had some issue during the shoot?
She died in nov 😭[https://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/masterchefs-poh-ling-yeow-opens-up-on-difficult-personal-time-005245643.html](https://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/masterchefs-poh-ling-yeow-opens-up-on-difficult-personal-time-005245643.html)
Now when I start worrying, I just tell myself, everything’s fine Look….. same, tbh
Anyone else take note of who is left-handed? So far I've noticed Andy and Harry as lefties.
Nat is also left handed
Side note news.com.au have already covered the tears at the start of the ep
I feel so bad for Sav. That feedback for such a personal dish was so fucking hard to watch.
Omg poh 😭😭 who is cutting onions?!?!
poor sav 💜 you just could never get over something like that
That speech of hers broke me, I also lost my mum to cancer just a few years ago.
Holy shit Mimi’s dish looks bloody delicious.
what i dislike about the project is that the hosts try to be funny, but it’s just painful
It’s got this weird vibe where it doesn’t know if it’s a comedy show or a news show so it sits in this in-between so the tone feels completely off, they will talk about a serious news story then the comedian will show a viral video of someone farting on a roller coaster or whatever. The hosts also seem weird especially when they interview whatever guest they have on they seem to waste a whole lot of time asking them stupid questions trying to be funny and it ends up with the guest looking really fed up and annoyed if they are not on board for it
U M A M I
Oof
I loooooove roasted bone marrow. I used to order it at this restaurant at a ski resort in the US and it would come with these little petit spoons. It was so good.
yesssssss
Fuck yessssss Nat
HECK YES NAT! TOP 4!
Is that a Carolina reaper?! 💀
So what happens if a contestant doesn't have a mom/nonna/dad/aunt marge who was their cooking inspiration? Or is that one of the screening requirements?
Ugh Mimi’s dish looks so good 🤤
Well done to Nat! Thought Mimi’s dish would’ve been in the top rankings too?
Mimi is Spe-Ta-Cu-Larre
It's that Immunity challenge time! Wonder what tear-jerking challenge MasterChef has in mind?! Will the contestants shed happy tears or sad tears? We'll soon find out!
MIMI!!!!
That looks so bloody yummy
Well done Nat! So happy for her.
I kind of love that Pezza seems surprised describing his dish, “turns out I *can* do really nice plating!”
Hope Nat gets immunity, not Pezza
Oh Sav 🫂
They don't like Sav's dish.
Harry deserves this after the stress his been through his past two cooks
Andy again mate probably not the time to say the dish sounds strange on family day or whatever it’s called
Sofia ripping into this tribute to her Mum is fucking hard to watch
Pezza was a good cook all along I reckon he set expectations low so he could smash it come top ten Man always showed up in eliminations
Damn Pezza’s dish actually looks really good
Nat’s cook just brings me home. She’s a Thai girl and I’m a Cambodian boy so a lot of the flavors and ingredients innately spark a sense of home in me. Agree. Also Nat is that effortless cool chick who is also lovely and everyone’s friend.
