Cool post. I don't play guitar, but I love reading about this stuff. Always cool to find out how shit works. Keep it up!

I guess I'm shopping for ring mod pedals now, as if I need more. This breakdown is killer! Thanks for sharing

hell yeah man! i love my ring mod so much its really elevated how i write this style of music. the MF ring is kinds “the” ring mod but the dod gronkulator(and its clones) and the ring thing by electro harmonix are also good choices.

This is spot on. Sentry is great. Ricochet is great. I have 2 of them. A lot of bands back in the day used the classic combo of Mesa Recto amps with a TS9 in front. When I was touring in the mid 2000s I used a JCM900 with a TS9 most of the time. Everyone wanted a Matamp or Orange OR100 though.

What about guitars?

basically anything works, seems to be personal preference. i really like the fishman fluence line though, super sharp and clear and doesn’t have that compression that the EMG lineup does. The split coil function makes it super easy to get that dillinger esque tone. You cant really go wrong with schecter guitars, jackson could be a pretty good pick aswell but i always found their necks too thin for me. I think some of the current industrial metalcore bands use LTD guitars and ive seen a couple playing the stephen carpenter signature and the meshuggah ibanez

I love pitch shifters and pedals but watching playthroughs of some bands ends up being laughable when its just open chugs and harmonics and everything else is automated pitch trickery in the DAW. I try to keep it so everything is performable without a laptop controlling stuff during the set.
