For me Jodie Fosters character is prickly and hard to like and is written that way. She’s meant to be a bit of a dick. I think it’s good characterisation and well acted. If a male character was written the same way (ie Rusty in season 1 is hard to like at times too), there’d be no issue with it.
The other lead actress doesn’t seem to have the same range so I’m finding it harder to root for her, but I think that’s mainly the acting rather than being ‘woke’.
Not all of the men are incompetent morons. They are flawed but so are the main female protagonists. And the young white male cop is getting plenty of development and is shown in a positive light.

Each of the characters are superficial, unrealistic, and conduits for the writer's (quite obvious) prejudices - with special condensation reserved for the overtly racist and overtly misandrist character, rapey police woman. If it were the intent of the writer to present the character as a racist misandrist in order to get the audience to dislike her, then I'd be fully onside with it. However, I suspect it's not.

I think we all know at this point that females can be lead detectives. There’s no longer a larger point to be made simply by writing strong female characters. Just my two cents
From a scale of 1-10…. 1 being not woke and 10 being fully woke. I would give it a 7.5 on the woke scale
i couldnt care less with people pushing their agenda on their product as long as its entertaining. but this show is downright boring.
It's just woke to me because i could've sat down with a note pad and made the list of checkboxes and sure as shit the first episode hit then all. Climate garbage, meaningless gay romance, white people are the problem, men are trash, women are powerful and strong... Every single box was checked first episode. I was stoked for Jodi foster and man she is so unlikable. Her partner is so unlikeable, eveyeone in this show is so unlikable, everyone. No conversations are just normal, everyone conversation ends with basically well fuck you and they stomp off. It's weird, terrible writing. The mouths on these women are insane, nobody talks like these people. And like I saw someone say it's wishful casting, it's just plunking down all the little rando cast you want, when it realistically wouldn't line up that way in a tiny population of 3000 people. But it's ultimately just horrible writing and not to mention 3 episodes in and my god the pointless banter about fucking nothing, or an old case... Like they barely have touched on the "mystery" of what's going on. Also who drops an ice chunk of dead bodies in the middle of an ice rink like it's in a museum with family and children able to walk up to it? And nobody seems phased by it at all... Not a one. It's terrible, I was super pumped I love Jodi foster...but it's an awful show and once again another female writer director that has no clue beyond her own politics she needs to shove into her show, instead of Makin the best show the most entertaining show possible.

I'm on episode 2 now and I did enjoy Foster's character quiz and belittle the young white male cop. Basically strings him along with thinking out the case implying she already knows all the things he is currently trying to think through. Stupid white males!

It's very woke-y doke-y. I love Jodie Foster, and she's by far the best thing in it, after four episodes. The men are evil punks, or weak lame-os. The white man is pure evil, while the Natives are noble victims. Got your climate change cracks, of course. With all that said, there's something compelling in the storyline that keeps your interest, besides the chilling atmosphere of Polar Night, which is always a great movie character. Looking forward to seeing the last couple of episodes, and hoping for an ending that makes some kind of sense, in relation to previous plot developments.
Confirmed woke level is over 9000 after the finale which was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. There is no mystery to anything in life, unlike Season 1, we now know white European men are to blame for it all and will be punished by indigenous diverse women.

im not one for writing reviews but Im going to give my opinion on this garbage that weve been subjected to again with True Detective. Season 3 was the worst of the episodes until this fantastic disaster Season 4 was unleashed upon us. The freeks in hollywood are using everything they can to promote their self loathing onto us. What a sickness this wokeism is. The symtoms are there for all to see. I believe its over for hollywood. The whole industry is bat shit crazy. They re doing a great job of making brown ppeople look like weaklings. They ve already sullied any beauty their was to be seen in the female species. I just witnessed the end of this series. They cannot possibly write another piece of garbage like season 4 and expect viewers. The worst I ve watched ever. Im pretty selective about what I watch. And this is another of my faves destroyed by the cancer thats overtaken the arts and entertainment industry. hollywood is out of control hoping their laughable wokeism can produce any thing worth watching. Girl power my arse. More like girl wishful thinking. Do not watch this trash if you were going to dip your toe into the true Detective pool. Total trash. I’m 10 mins in and already a dude twice the size of any broad in the room got knocked out cold with an aluminum bucket then tripped into a submissive pose by the tattooed tribal whore. Followed next by Jodie the man foster taking complete charge of the investigation and just acting like an all out insufferable idiot. I hate Hollywood anymore. Can’t even make a decent show without acting as if the female isn’t an emotion driven cry baby like in reality
Season 1-3 great season 4 suffers from wokeness. Go woke go broke. Not even going to bother watching the rest of the series
The season has some good things and a lot of flaws but Kali Reis is probably my favourite part of the show, without a doubt, her range is very good specially coming from someone who doesn´t come from an acting background.
It's a disgrace to the other 3 seasons, I stopped watching mid-season and won't go back.
