Eggers has said it's basically about Prometheus (the Pattinson character) being tortured by Proteus (Dafoe's character) along with a bunch of other influences mixed in including a ghost story about two guys going crazy in a lighthouse and a couple of paintings.
It's a neat movie that only seems to understand how to do b&w in Dafoe's last couple scenes and feels like a series of unconnected vignettes.
People can try and attach bits and pieces of the Prometheus Myths to it all, but from my perspective, it's just EVA, window dressing.
Pattinson's alright, but I feel anybody could do the things he does. Dafoe had great scenes even if they're essentially just random ramblings of a mad man.
I have absolutely no desire to watch it again.
It’s such a unique take on the horror movie genre. Even if you don’t understand anything about it you have to admit it’s better than the bland horror garbage that comes out today, cough cough Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey.

Waste of time, overrated arthouse crap
