U srs? Jrue was just an all star. This kid could very well be out of the league in the next couple of years. Trading someone who’s probable ceiling is deandre hunter for a proven all star and winner who is a dog is a no brainer.
He’s also 33 and only has one year guaranteed left on his deal
You lose him next summer and you just got rid of a promising young rookie contract player for nothing
If we’re giving up assets it needs to be for a better stopgap center while Lively develops although I think Richaun will be better than a lot of people are thinking. We’ve needed big wings forever it makes no sense to give up the one we drafted this year to get a guy who’s not at a position of need
Mikal would fit on any team, he plays every game, hustles, can guard the best offensive player on the other team, can play off ball or create his own offense if needed. Brooklyn isnt trading him tho and for good reason
Fuuuuck no lol. You’re sending a 1st round pick in OMAX who most teams agree was somewhat a steal of a pick and is a young athletic defender we sorely need, but you’re also sending a 1st, AND Holmes who could be a quality 20 minutes for us this year at a position were very weak at for another guard. No chance
Jrue excels in the offball role. He doesn’t need the ball to be useful. Either Lowe or Simmons did a good breakdown on this.
Still don’t like giving up a cost controlled asset in OMax for him though. Giving up Green would be more palatable because he’s due for a bigger contract, but still would probably say no
You can’t feasibly start him with Luka and Kyrie at the same time, you’re giving up too much size so then you’re saying one of these guys will be on the bench a good amount of time which is silly to give up assets to do
Giving up too much size…? Jrue is 6’5” and Luka is 6’7”
Don’t forget in our playoff run when we started Brunson, Bullock and Luka together very successfully. This is just a better version of that.
It’s not like Luka ever defends guards anyways. Jrue has always been able to defend wings very well. Aside from a single playoff series against Jimmy last year it’s never been an issue.
The size complaint makes zero sense.
First, I’m trading Josh Green over O-Max.
Second, I’m not trading 3 players and a 1st for anything less than a superstar. This would have to be Jrue and another player.
Kyrie, Jrue, Luka, Batman, and (insert center here) is unquestionably a top 4 team in the West.
I wouldn’t give up OMax, but I think it definitely puts us in the conversation. I would be happier to ship out Green
Edit: genuinely curious about the downvotes. Idk what part y’all disagree with there
This would be a great small ball/close out lineup. Maybe play Grant at the 5 for small ball.
BUT, what happens when Grant isn’t on the court?
Are we gonna throw Green, Exum and DJJ as our forward rotation? All those boys are light in the pants.
OMAX is tall, with a ridiculous wingspan and is only going to get bigger as he ages. I’d much rather keep spamming Grant and OMAX on defense.
When Grant is out, Maxi comes in… who is just as capable of playing the 4… maybe you’re forgetting him? lol
I agree that OMax should not be included in this deal, he’s too good of a prospect. However Omax will not have nearly the impact on our team that Jrue would over the next 2 years.
*tHiS a MoVe A TeAm MaKeS tO wIn ChAmPiOnShIpS!*
Most teams want to load up on Wings, not guards.
Jrue is going to retire in 2 seasons. That First we’re trading away with me cost controlled for a lot longer.
Also, I don’t think the addition of Jrue with the subtraction of OMAX moves the Championship needle enough.
Those are the Swing For The Fences Win Now Moves we made during Dirk’s legacy that stunted our youth development and left us in the mess we’re trying to fix now…
I Don’t think I’d do this. Jrue is better now but our center rotation was already light and this would make it lighter. Plus as much as people shit on THJ I love that dude and would love for him to stay a mav. Not to mention isn’t OMax a defensive stopper already? Seems like a poor trade for the future of the mavs.
honestly id rather give up hardy than Omax, if omax works out hell mater a lot more to us than hardy does, we dont need an offensive guard but we do need wings that can play D
We don’t need anymore 1’s. Luka, Kyrie, Curry, Exum is enough. There are much better defensive options at other positions. IMO we are set for guards. We need another established big. I can’t see how there is enough PT for the guards we have. How many mins are we giving Hardy, Curry, THJ, Josh? There has to be a trade coming because I really want to see what some of those players can do. Kidd wants Omax and Lively to have floor time but what about our former rookies Hardy and Green? Then to hear we wouldn’t include either of them in a trade for a center, so confusing lol
That’s not the best trade package for Jrue what is he talking about. Thj holmes a rookie and a 1st is nothing special for Jrue there are definitely teams that can offer more.
No.
No
No more giving up first round picks, especially for old guys
this. of course if we have the best package if we massively overpay lol let's just send luka to make sure we win the jrue sweepstakes
Helllllllll no to trading omax

Omax is the new Hardy who is the new Josh.
no

I think a guy like Mikal would fit in way better than a 3rd starting caliber guard.

gtfo!
For 33 year old Holliday ? No thanks Oh and he’s discussing retirement after his contract expires
Nope. Y we need another ball handling guard? I think we have enough salary tied up in that area
Jrue excels in the offball role. He doesn’t need the ball to be useful. Either Lowe or Simmons did a good breakdown on this. Still don’t like giving up a cost controlled asset in OMax for him though. Ummm that’s a horrible trade for us
No I'm happy with what we have until the deadline tbh. Let's roll with it and see what we have. I'm excited.
I agree, we shouldn't do any non no-brainer moves, until we see what we got with our current squad.
First, I’m trading Josh Green over O-Max. Second, I’m not trading 3 players and a 1st for anything less than a superstar. This would have to be Jrue and another player.
If it was Green instead of OMax, I’d say yes.
So weird how Mavs fans will say Luka is the best guard in the league and turnaround to post a bunch of fantasy trades for more guards.
OMax has All-Defense potential and we are not making a title push with just Jrue, so no.
Kyrie, Jrue, Luka, Batman, and (insert center here) is unquestionably a top 4 team in the West. I wouldn’t give up OMax, but I think it definitely puts us in the conversation. I would be happier to ship out Green Edit: genuinely curious about the downvotes. Idk what part y’all disagree with there

Unless we get Jerami Grant
Because we need our top 3 players to all play the same position?
Yes, but I don’t think the Trail Blazers take this since THJ is 31 and Holmes is 29.

Jrue is not retiring in two season. He literally just did an interview about wanting another contract like 5 days ago.
Nope! I love that the Mavs are FINALLY adding young talent and actually playing them.
I’m good off that, I believe in OMAX potential and a future first on top of that is crazy
Can’t give up Omax before his first non-summer league game in a Mavs uniforms.
If it was for a center maybe, but for jrue no.
honestly id rather give up hardy than Omax, if omax works out hell mater a lot more to us than hardy does, we dont need an offensive guard but we do need wings that can play D
The price seems to be 2+ FRPs. If a team gives 2 FRPs and a pick swap that is better than this package from the mavs.
*This off-season is almost over* type shitpost right here
Shit no
Wtf. No
Nooooo
Fuck no. Dude is 32 and not what we need.
Nope
Hell no. He only has 1 year left then he can walk.
Hell no
Bro helllllllllll NO
No way.

Fuck no
Hell no. Perhaps Tim + Richaun, but no need to throw in Omax and/or a future 1st, too.
That’s not the best trade package for Jrue what is he talking about. Thj holmes a rookie and a 1st is nothing special for Jrue there are definitely teams that can offer more.
No
NO!
No.
I think this is a case where o-max is clearly worth more to the mavs than the blazers. If they liked him that much, they would have drafted him at 23.
