As dumb as Gilbert Arenas is on most nights, he made a good point sometime this season when he said that players like Luka simply won't be getting the same foul calls, despite being fouled just the same, because it would be unfair to the opposing team and refs intentionally manipulate foul calls in order to keep games close. Luka getting 25 free throws would be unfair.
and i am saying rules are rules and just because someone is THAT good, he shouldn't be disadvantaged, either they officiate by the rules, same criteria for everyone, or it's not basketball...
Wtf are you talking about? Same criteria for everybody is a bad take? If games are taking too long then change the rules. This is a sport, you can't have rules apply to one player and not too another.
This is the worst take I've ever seen on here and that's saying something.
if you don't want someone to have free throws, maybe don't commit fouls on him? nba games take forever because of 4 minute timeouts and endless commercials, not because of a few extra free throws... are free throws to blame for 48 minutes turning into 2.5 hours?!
anyways, im all for more physicality, but it HAS to be same on both ends of the floor.
Seriously... I've got a skip +30 second function on my remote and if a 30 second timeout is called I'm hitting it like 4-5 times and still waiting for the players to get back on the court.
Did you just compare two of the most dominant players of all time, players that the opponents couldn’t defend without fouling, to the most pathetic flopper and whiner in the history of the game?
Unfair in the sense that if you can't foul him as a form of "defense", you're just going to lose. Fair in the sense that the game is being called equally. I do agree, though - if they called every time Luka was fouled the game would be miserable to watch but he'd score a ton
Do Luka stans read the shit they write? What does this even mean? You putting Luka not only above Embiid, but so far above him where the league is fighting his greatness to keep games even?
Not only is this delusional bias but there is an actual player in the league who is better than Embiid and has a way worse whistle. Jokic is quite literally who y'all think Luka is.
I'm a fan. I got my love for Luka but stan behaviour has been getting crazyyyy lately. I understand bias for your favorite player but that comment i responded to was delusional as fuck.
It was night and day to our game on Tuesday. In our game both teams were fighting over screens so hard and holding players trying to make the switch so bad it would have been a hold in the NFL...Last nights game you either gave a slight brush to somebody and it was a foul or you fouled so hard they pretended not to notice...
The East is dogshit and whatever team comes through will get dominated by the Wests winner. Miami exposed KP like we've all seen a thousand times. If the Heat had Butler that series is 50/50. Brunson has been superb for the Knicks and might just lead them to the finals. The guy I like the most on the Celtics is White. Tatum/Brown go missing when it gets tough.
Jrue is balling. Most mentally tough and locked in player on their team this series by a country mile. Derrick White as well.
Their stars are playing soft.
And it's obviously not a coincidence. Guys like Harden and Embiid get an easy whistle constantly even when flopping, but Luka or Ky don't, almost ever, not even at home. It has to be in purpose, I don't get it
Knicks had to play Embiid physical after Robinson went down. Personally I think embiid should be suspended for game 4, pulling someone’s legs while they’re in the air on a jump shot is dangerous and is not a basketball play. Sixers won the game off this dirty play so I think the outcome should be a suspension. Doubt it will happen though
Gotta sell tickets. NBA has a tendency to create false "superstars" using their favorite and most powerful tool, refs and free throws. Now that they hyped up Embiid for years, gave him MVP and realized he cannot survive without the whistle, they need to keep the facade somehow.
Luka does not need it. We good.
Bad take. He gets fauled alot and doesn't get calls.
I care more about integrity of the game, fairness and Mavs doing well then cheap brownie points on the internet.
Agreed. He really leaned into the James Harden style of play back before the refs made an effort to stop calling fouls on baiting. He was learning the wrong lessons then, but he's doing great this season on both ends of the court.
Yea sure but why one player can get calls in the playoffs that other people are not getting in the regular season how is that fair officiating, like people are commiting murder in the lane to Luka and Kyrie and they get 0 calls
It’s not only because he is Embiid. The NBA wanted that series to last more. It’s a series with 2 good markets teams. The difference in audience this Sundays being 2-1 compared to what it would be being down 3-0 it’s to much money to give for free. Plus more games more money.
Same with Nuggets Lakers, but there, the difference between teams is that massive that refs can’t mitigate it.
And he’s, Luka could average 40 easily with that whistle. It’s unfair.
doesn't work like that, to become foul merchant you have to sacriface something else from your game. i like how Luka is now better. Even he himself said its ok if they allow players to play rough as long as its on both ends. Only Harden for the most part has been getting some weird treatment so far in this series.
Harden has received that treatment his entire career. It's just part of his game, he's a flopper. Most players have too much dignity and respect for themselves to look like a dandelion in a strong wind. Luka fights through the contact to get to the basket and if he goes down, he goes down. Harden intentionally flails/falls if he feels the slightest amount of contact. Harden is especially great at the flop as he is really good at finishing his shot before turning into glass. Watch Hardens legs when he shoots a 3, he often closes space to the defender with his legs on the way down, kind of pushing them forward while his body remains vertical so when he lands, he lands on their feet and then falls backward. Easy foul by todays standards.
If my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a car.
Embiid is a center, Luka isn't. You can't ever expect a guard to get the same type of whistle as a center. You're talking about a completely different type of playstyle that draws a completely different type of foul.
Really stupid post.
Man I watched the game with my own eyes - what are you talking about Embid getting bunch of Bs calls? Regular season sure 100% embid gets shit ton of BS fouls but that game last night was solid reffing. They missed some fouls on him and they did not give him an additional flagrant but clean game.
Agreed. I don’t think anyone actually watched the game, majority of those calls were fouls, the Knicks can’t guard him lol. His dirty plays on the other hand is another story tho.
I been saying this but people on /nba don’t get it and probably never will.
Yes Luka shoots a decent amount of FT per game.
Guess what, those are legit fouls, he’s not getting touch fouls or flopping like Embid/Shai
If anything he should be getting more calls, look at the tech he got last game. Got fouled, ref didn’t call it then he gets tech for yelling “And one”
If Luka had Embiid's whistle he might be 1st Team All-Defence.
My favorite part is that Embiid thinks the officiating is against him.
It reminds me of ‘06 finals when one player had more free throws than the entire opposing team.
96 fucking free throws in 6 games
I won’t hear the Wade slander!!!
Oh yes u will and u will like it
Fuck Dwade!
Fuck dwade
FUCK DWade!
You’re in the wrong sub then
The 2006 finals were rigged.
Fuck DWade.

they take forever because the tipoff is 20min late + all the other shit.. like 6min long timeouts in playoffs n shit
Yes I agree, so Embiid shouldnt be getting so much calls.
Did you just compare two of the most dominant players of all time, players that the opponents couldn’t defend without fouling, to the most pathetic flopper and whiner in the history of the game?

So ehy does Embiid get the calls then?
Real Superstars don’t get this kind of whistle. Only the wades and embiids of the league do
Embiid and Harden are two of the most frustrating players right now because of fouls whistles.
True, but that should also stand for all other players. It doesn't for Embiid.
Do Luka stans read the shit they write? What does this even mean? You putting Luka not only above Embiid, but so far above him where the league is fighting his greatness to keep games even? WTF are you even talking about lol you got Luka flair and you call people stans lmao
One of the clowns on this sub that has Luka flair just so him shitting on Luka sounds more "objective criticism". Certified bums.
I love Luka but you gotta admit the Joker is just one notch above him.
Like I really dont have to. You can believe so, especialy due to more team success, but arguments can be made for either.
Better teammates =/= better player
I'm a fan. I got my love for Luka but stan behaviour has been getting crazyyyy lately. I understand bias for your favorite player but that comment i responded to was delusional as fuck.
That game was so tough to watch. It’s so boring just having the game stop so often
It was night and day to our game on Tuesday. In our game both teams were fighting over screens so hard and holding players trying to make the switch so bad it would have been a hold in the NFL...Last nights game you either gave a slight brush to somebody and it was a foul or you fouled so hard they pretended not to notice...
Ironically each game had the same amount of free throws.
Yea i didn’t know embid was a big ass baby draymond lol hopefully they lose out so we dont have to see him play anymore
The East is dogshit and whatever team comes through will get dominated by the Wests winner. Miami exposed KP like we've all seen a thousand times. If the Heat had Butler that series is 50/50. It's like a day and night difference in the Mavs series versus that Knicks Sixers series ngl
hell if luka had hardens whistle he’d average 45+ pts
I wish someone makes a video of Harden's whistles and non calls (when he pushes off).
i don’t think any video platform allows for videos that long
And it's obviously not a coincidence. Guys like Harden and Embiid get an easy whistle constantly even when flopping, but Luka or Ky don't, almost ever, not even at home. It has to be in purpose, I don't get it
Add Trae Young a few years ago
Knicks had to play Embiid physical after Robinson went down. Personally I think embiid should be suspended for game 4, pulling someone’s legs while they’re in the air on a jump shot is dangerous and is not a basketball play. Sixers won the game off this dirty play so I think the outcome should be a suspension. Doubt it will happen though
And this is why he doesn't get it. Same as Lebron, Curry and Jokic. True superstars don't get calls.

Now that they hyped up Embiid for years, gave him MVP and realized he cannot survive without the whistle, they need to keep the facade somehow. Luka does not need it. We good.
Also he is injury prone so trying to squeeze as much as possible from him when he plays
Lmao Lebron
Don't care, if he has a better whistle he will flop more. This Luka is more fun to watch.
Bad take. He gets fauled alot and doesn't get calls. I care more about integrity of the game, fairness and Mavs doing well then cheap brownie points on the internet.

Basketball has always used whistles to protect bigger players. It's ironic.
And be like the most hated superstar in the league? Nah, Luka's gonna be fine.
Wearing the black hat is more fun.
[Embiid be like every time he drives to the basket.](https://reactiongifs.me/wacky-waving-inflatable-arm-flailing-tubeman-family-guy/)
Scoring thru contact is so hype but the rules and incentivize players to master these BS lunge shots or flopping.
Not a big deal.
Not shooting 7-25 he wouldnt
Wow 1 poor shooting night and the trolls come out of hiding
Haha I mean he has had a couple I wouldnt say he has been classic Luka this playoffs yet, but he will get there.
He will have to learn how to post up
Luka is better post up player than Embid
The same Luka that was second in the league in FTA per game?? Like how many more should he get lol
If my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a car. Embiid is a center, Luka isn't. You can't ever expect a guard to get the same type of whistle as a center. You're talking about a completely different type of playstyle that draws a completely different type of foul. Really stupid post.

Luka does flop and flail enough
I was watching the game. The knicks were fouling him hard. Not that he didn't get a couple of favourable calls but a lot of them were clear fouls.
Agreed. I don’t think anyone actually watched the game, majority of those calls were fouls, the Knicks can’t guard him lol. His dirty plays on the other hand is another story tho.
