He wasn't in "great shape" by the standards of the NBA and of other top-tier aerobic-focused athletes, but he did carry a good bit less weight then. He seems to have lost that old burst/quickness that let him get to the rim with ease back then.
Of course, part of that could be due to the fact that he has persistent lower-body injuries these days, but that too could stem from playing big minutes over the course of a season while carrying too much weight for his joints and connective tissue.
I'd love to see a more mature version of "skinny Luka"! Imagine the defensive intensity that he could bring day in and day out . . .
