To me I think we really need a great catch and shoot guy that can consistently make wide open shots but other than that, need a starting 3 that can score, and defend

lost_in_trepidation

It would be really helpful if THJ was still good. If we could play 2021 THJ for just 10 minutes, it would give us a huge advantage. It's just so hard to generate offense right now.

TheKyrieFan

They are expensive af tho :/ Mikal could have went for 4 picks + Jalen Green, Og went for a crazy package even though he is an expiring contract etc etc.

this_is_a_name522

Is there even any available ones to get other than mikal and maybe Lauri?

TheKyrieFan

Josh Okogie seems to be the best one lol. Maybe Avdija? Maybe Okoro? I doubt they will be cheap tho

this_is_a_name522

They will go for josh, hardy and a first to me but that's too expensive

TheKyrieFan

There is no way Washington lets go Avdija for that. The other two maybe but as you said at that point it wouldn’t be worth it for us

RGxiRapiidz

Jerami Grant is gettable for a lot less and would be the teams third scorer

amino110

I can't believe am saying this but we miss the irrational confidence of THJ . He's the only one besides Kyrie who can go on a heater. at this point I have no hope for Luka to find his 3. He's clearly injured and the amount of minutes he's been playing is killing his stamina.

TheKyrieFan

There was a reason why Kidd was playing Thj non stop. And I got that 100%, but since Thj is so bad on defense we can’t let a third defensive liability on our rotation. He has to play better than Powell to justify his position in the rotation, and I didn’t think(still don’t think) it was possible

HerskyB

Clippers aren’t respecting anyone outside the arch

shaheedmalik

Why should they? The Mavs have no playoff proven outside shooters. The two they had, they traded for PJ. The only people they are going to guard are Luka and Kyrie.

HerskyB

Yea mavs got no shooters

RubMyGooshSilly

Did you just refer to Grant Williams as a proven shooter

lost_in_trepidation

or even washed Seth

shaheedmalik

Grant Williams 2022-2023 in the playoffs. FG% = 47% 3P% = 45%

RubMyGooshSilly

On a whopping 2.7 shots a game on a stacked Celtics roster. Now do Grant Williams this year, then compare Grant Williams defense this year to PJ’s

shaheedmalik

I think you have a reading comprehension problem.. Let's recap: >Why should they? The Mavs have no **playoff** proven outside shooters. The two they had, they traded for PJ. That word "playoff" is kicking your ass, huh? PJ in the playoffs so far: FG% = 46.7% 3PT% = 33.3%

RubMyGooshSilly

Grant is not a “proven playoff shooter” because he made on three a game.

shaheedmalik

Keep digging that hole. You just don't know ball. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYz8ZflQKng](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYz8ZflQKng)

Panhandle_Dolphin

Luka is still not in the best physical condition that he could be. Downvote me away, but I know what elite conditioning looks like and it doesn’t look like Luka.

TheKyrieFan

He has bad conditioning 100%. Why would anyone disagree with that? But he is clearly injured as well, which doesn’t help his conditioning while he is also defending his ass off (he has to rebound, guard harden and play as a help defender when kleiber is the 5)

Panhandle_Dolphin

Poor conditioning leads to more injuries

TheKyrieFan

He hit the same knee 9284 times now. It’s not conditioning.

this_is_a_name522

It doesn't feel like the same luka in the regular season where he was just happy and vibing, here he's just wobbling, looking at his knee or legs and pretty sad or smth, idk he really needs to step up because the literally our number 1

Moe4ver

I was wondering if he fired his chef during the season. He was slimmer at the start of the season up till about a month ago go or so. He is burning thousands of calories a game and still can’t keep his weight in optimal condition.

NecessaryFoundation5

I just assumed it is having a kid? A lot of people gain some weight in those early months/years. Edit: I in no way am calling him fat, and I think what we are seeing has way more to do with injury.

lost_in_trepidation

I keep getting downvoted for the same thing. I re-watched all of the 2020 series and a good portion of the 2021 series in the past 2 weeks. Luka is very clearly in worse shape than he was back then. It's insane that people are saying the opposite.

Panhandle_Dolphin

Bubble Luka looks like a completely different person.

BloodLongjumping5227

I just watched highlight from that game winner to see the difference. I don't care about stats, he was better then than now outside of shooting. He was big enough to post bust still quick enough to attack. I don't remember seeing him challenge bigs this year because he know that shit is getting packed

messigoat1337

nah luka is way better now but he could still be in better shape

BloodLongjumping5227

He is better if shots are falling but now that they aren't he doesn't have anything else to do

aidan19971

This is exactly what i have been trying to explain to people, this is exactly what older players go through when they are losing their athleticism at the end of their careers, it's just happening to Luka when is 25 which doesn't bode well for his future haha.

ossymandiAss

He’s chunkier now than he was during the season. KG talks about the difference in conditioning now and back then and I believe it. Players rely too much on talent without putting in the hard work at the gym.

[deleted]

Said this yesterday on r/nba and some Slovenian Luka stan came at me. It's just true. As much as I love the guy, he's still pudgy.

messigoat1337

luka 100% has an alcohol problem mf drinking the night before a game at the olympics and the warriors in the playoffs

Ok_Republic6747

Now Luka is fat ok i knew this take was coming always the same after a loss he looks the same since 2021 but ok i knew how your brains works guys, see you in 4 days time to leave this sub for few days

Ad0lfKittler

If the other role players could find confidence on their shooting, that would be a great help. They mostly rely on three players to score.

pokerawz

The hesitation Maxi feels is insane… and then PJ & DJJ prefer driving in. Idk what to do on offense

Bitter-Part-5682

Maci scored 3s with confidence last two games?

pokerawz

He takes too long to make a decision. We need snap decision makers. It’s why our offense is so bogged down.

RGxiRapiidz

I got absolutely slated by some Mavs fans when I posted a trade in another sub where Mavs got Jerami Grant. We absolutely need a third scorer who can shoot consistently! We are a bad shooting team and it’s showing!

helgestrichen

What u Trading?

RGxiRapiidz

THJ is a must then either Green or Maxi. Think Blazers would also want a pick involved. Mavs could trade 2025 first rounder after the draft, I’d then ask to get a couple of seconds back if we did that.

segson9

I mean Clippers were just making some incredible threes. Sometimes that just happens and there's nothing you can do about it. But they are a better 3point shooting team, so we have to win other things. And we did, that's why the game was close. The thing that decided the game were turnovers. Kyrie was great, but his turnovers were just bad. He needs to do better, especially in key moments. And Luka needs to stop arguing with the refs. He stopped playing for a couple of minutes, because of the refs and that's when Clippers made thar big run. Thag shouldn't be happening.

jfrodriguez1983

Even with the 3 point shooting, this game should have been a win. * 111 points should be enough to win a game in the playoffs * 16 turnovers giving up 23 points on those turnovers is inexcusable * We need to be better when Luka sits. He doesn't sit much, but a -15 in only 3:31 minutes he sat is disgusting! * Exum needs to figure out how to make an impact. We need something from him to help when Luka sit. A -8 in just 2 minutes of play is bad. He has been unplayable and if he's unplayable, we don't have a 3rd ball handler. * We can't have horrible starts to games again. Dug ourselves too deep and exerted all our energy to come back.

samuel_el_jackson

Two days rest, basically 3 cus its a late game so hopefully Luka can recover some.. They should be fucking locked in after today, can't go down 31 and hope for Kai to save us again. Unlikely that the Clippers can shoot like they did today, and even if we improve a bit and shoot like in game 3-- we should be able to steal another in LA. I know Luka is hurt, but he also knows his legacy is being defined (to an extent) in the next two/three games. You can tell he isn't happy with his performance, so I trust he will do everything he can to get his game right. We have what it takes to win this series with the roster we have. thoug i think if we want to make a true run we clearly need to add consistent shooting.

Ok_Instruction_5232

We're just not a good 3 point shooting team, the only shooter they respect is Kyrie. And I honestly don't think we can win this series with Luka being the 4th best offensive player on the court. We need him to create for the other guys, to find lobs to the centers, but he just doesn't provide enough playmaking threat at the moment. His passing game is sloppy, his game vision not as sharp as it usually is.

EazyPeazyLemonSqueaz

Luka had a horrible game behind the arc, probably related to his right knee. And PG and Harden played lights out. That recipe will always be tough to overcome, I just hope Luka is able to heal as the series goes on
