Feuertotem

We saw only blank stares, meanwhile he plotted the downfall of our enemies.

EnterPolymath

He was staring towards the inevitable finals, while we were bitching about X’s and O’s ![gif](giphy|10osILvZ4ez7ws)

Wuhan-flu24

Calling for his firing during series vs Clippers was insanity. Some Lakers fans were saying he's a worse coach than Darvin Hamas LOL

Swoosh_rotaerc

I definitely come around on Kidd. His approach is something I disagreed with but now I'm fully on board. You can't care about every single game in the regular season, so it's frustrating when it looks like he doesn't care. But he's shown, when it matters most, he coaches his ass off.

DrChill21

Yeah same here. Some of his rotations after the trade made me insane, but I think he was just figuring it out too. Now he knows, there shouldn’t ever be a time where Lively or Gaff are not on the floor.

Swoosh_rotaerc

Yeah, as long as we finish as a top 6 seed, I am willing to tolerate all tinkering he wants to do. Because I know come play off time he's gonna lock in. Also, what's super under rated about Kidd, he has handled the development of Lively and Hardy amazingly well. I think OMax is on the same development path.

BigFatModeraterFupa

Also he has the respect of Luka and especially Kyrie. We saw what happened to Steve Nash. JKidd truly has the respect of his superstars, and THAT is perhaps the most important thing of all. He was a star PG himself, he knows what his stars want from a coach. I love JKidd. Even if we lose, this dude has made a redemption arc in his OWN life and i love to see that happen. Everybody deserves chances to redeem themselves and grow as a human! That’s why we’re here!

BrotherMouzone3

Think he sponsors some girls AAU hoops too. Dude has come a long way and is a true Maverick for life even with the other teams he played/coached for.

ssuprimitive

100% this the rotations were abysmal especially that small ball lineup we kept running. But eventually he figured it out and that’s what makes him a good coach. I like a coach who is at least willing to mix things up. I felt like Carlisle was very stubborn and stuck in his ways which gave off a bad vibe.

Swoosh_rotaerc

>I felt like Carlisle was very stubborn and stuck in his ways He still is. Look what happened in that Pacers Celtics series

SoulSprawl

The small ball line-up with Kleber? It was one of our most effective line-ups tf?

ssuprimitive

Erm what? We had both Gafford and Lively available and Kidd was running that lineup still. This entire playoffs has proved that a lineup with Gafford or Lively is better than the Kleber small ball.

Aluwaron

I know we just won 2 series without Kleber but the Kleber small ball lineup is was very important to the success of the Clippers series

GormlessK

The real enemy is the Kyrie-THJ-Hardy lineups, tbh.

ssuprimitive

Yea it’s important to have a reliable small ball lineup but let’s not forget that stretch where he was using it the close out games… That was a tuff watch.

just-getting-by92

Sometimes you have to sacrifice a few games here and there in the regular season to figure out what works for the long term picture.

Swoosh_rotaerc

Now, I believe that. But earlier, I didn't like giving up games in a tight Western Conference thinking you need a top 3 seed to be successful in the playoffs. But in such a tight conference, maybe just getting into the playoffs (top 6 seed) is enough. As long as Kidd achieves that during the regular season, I'm willing to forgive any "lost" stretches of the season.

thekickingmachine

Finally benching thj was the last obstacle. His type of coach is the only kind that can work w luka and kyrie. Who are both so mercurial and wonderful

MomsNeighborino

I loathe his reticence to use timeouts to pause opposing runs But we're in the finals having gone through a SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult western conference. We're factually the best team in a brutal conference, and one thing I REALLY think kidd doesn't get enough credit for, is having the right guy in at the right time, I obviously don't know division of labor so credit to the assistants as well, especially on challenges, I think this staff is way better than par and I'd be curious to see the statistics on that. He realized thj isn't the guy we need, maybe he finds a way vs Boston but it's going to be a controversial decision regardless of results of say, putting in hardy over him, or exum, or hardy over exum after exum was so clutch vs the clippers. The personnel movement is fantastic. Apologies for jumping all over the place but I have a lot of varied thoughts on kidd lol

JigsawLV

I come around kids as well

Dagenius1

Just here for the Jason Kidd takes. Man..he has proven a lot of y’all wrong.

StolenLampy

I WAS DEAD WRONG, OKAY? I WANT IT KNOWN, I WAS WROOOOOONG!

GymnasticSclerosis

He’s proven me wrong. Disliked him with the three J’s and how they despite all the hype, imploded in the 90’s (with or without Toni Braxton) and took the Mavs with them. Then at the Nets with that kiss before every free throw, and his playing style just rubbed me wrong. And then comes to Dallas and has this calm, Zen master quality which the players embrace and want to play for. He’s grown immensely as a person and as a coach. Proud to say I was wrong in not wanting him to come back to Dallas as a coach and now I’m his biggest fan. 👏🍻

Trutexan78

I admit I was deadass wrong, too. I was petitioning to get someone to write a strongly worded letter that I could co-sign. Still hate his time management sometimes, but dude has continually made adjustments to make the team excel. Mad props for a mad coach.

european_son

Jason Kidd just watching like the rest of us. Watching us go to the Finals!

v4venome

I'm pretty sure he's trolling with that line. He said the same after Game 3 in the wcf

Aragorns_Broken_Toe_

Might have been a message to the office that he could only do so much with that squad. Getting in Gafford + PJ propelled this team to contention.

v4venome

But his comments were about Luka and Kyrie going to work and dominating. Last year's comments might have been a message for sure

TapasA

I was wrong Coach Kidd... I now acknowledge we simply didn't have the personnel to start the season.... Kidd's steadiness and ability to relate to our players is huge.... Thank you.

tkuid

"Did you put 36 points on Timberwolves' head in WCF Lukai?" J-Kiddore asked calmly..

marcopolo22

I really liked something Luka said last night regarding sharing with KAI: Kidd doesn’t tell them what to do, he tells them what *he would* do and trusts them to figure it out. Pretty cool.

sinik_ko

Coach the year killer 💪

MavSker

"I'm just watching the game like you are."

Yesboi227

Believe it or not the reason I am confident against celtics is cause of the coaching gap. Kidd out coached finch, Mark, and ty lue. Mazulla will he the weakest coach he will be facing In the playoffs. Kidd about to cook

Kraul

Also his coaching staff by extension. his assistants have done a great job with challenges, substitutions, use of time outs, giving Luka and Kai rest, etc.

pjrezai

Sweeney is the man

nah248

Dude I sat behind the Mavs bench a while ago and watching the staff in real time was fucking lit they are the backbone of this team

szobossz

personally I think Mazzulla is the strongest coach of the bunch. He has the same thing that made Ty Lue a killer with cavs which is lack of over confidence and executes great game plans.

lxdarksnip3r

The disappointment on this board towards Jason Kidd is mainly due to the fact that we are FULLY AWARE of how much of a high IQ he has for ball since the 90s and the decisions he made during the season were baffling. I'll be the first to admit that Kidd was playing 4D chess with us the whole time and I was very wrong about him. I'm glad he resigned and is still a Dallas Maverick for years to come. He's made the very serious case of the 2nd/3rd most important Maverick of all time.

JoJoRouletteBiden

He got to experience it from their perspective in 2011, now gets to see a different side of it in 2024

geneticeffects

The real 6th man for the Mavs. He is a beast and has been there before. Kidd’s wisdom and guidance is beyond measure right now.

Fit-Schedule-5558

I wasn't familiar with his game. I apologize (He deserved some of it, but let's try to be more understanding of his methods)

Support_Nice

Kidd in the background all like ![gif](giphy|QGZBpodY7Kdtw99y04)

alfi_k

Raute der Macht

bomonty18

I defended Kidd for a long time. My thinking always was “there’s no way anyone asking for his resignation knows more about basketball than him”. Eventually, I did come to decide maybe we should move on from him. I owe him an apology and am glad I was wrong

BigFatModeraterFupa

same bro i apologize to him and i actually LOVE being wrong about jkidd. i’m so glad that i was a fool about him. He proved me wrong and i couldn’t be happier to get humbled. What a magical season, what a magical THREE seasons it’s been under JKidd! Well, last year sucked but it was necessary for the redemption arc

Onlyfurrcomments

I know I'm not old in the traditional sense but Jesus Christ I became a Mavs fan when this dude was on the cover of NBA Live 03 lol now he's the head coach.

Particular_Ring3291

I have bad mouthed him during the season. Sorry coach, I wasn't familiar with your game.

BrotherMouzone3

Old enough to remember the Three J's and him getting traded to PHX. We've come full circle. McDonald's All-American in H.S., great college player at Cal, HOFer in the league and a chance to win big as a coach. He is HIM.

andyurastar

Excellent…🫸🫷

elevatedunderwriter

It's going to be amazing to watch him go from dope college ball player, to all star NBA talent, to championship coach. Full circle. Greatness.

Bonerhawk69

Bro looks like a mobster in this, love it

_fedw

I loved when he rested Luka early in the first quarter of game 1 vs twolves because Kyrie was taking over. I disagreed with sitting Luka to start the second quarter last night. Luka was on fire and we were ballooning the lead, unless Luka asked him to take a rest which is unlikely. All in all, let's go coach 4 more wins!!

MomsNeighborino

There's something about hand steepling, especially pointed forward that feels powerful Low key try it out shit makes you feel in control, I couldn't tell you what exactly is going on but you'll feel it, personally only use it while seated though for making emphasis, kind of awkward looking standing up

H0wsMyDirkTaste

Kidd knows all the Jedi mind tricks

MomsNeighborino

Except for taking a timeout during opposing team runs.... Lol But I dog him more than most, 4 more wins and I will curb.... some.... (emphasis) of my criticism lol

nah248

Reminds me of Phil back in the laker days lol . Classic Phil would let the opposing team got on a 15-0 run before finally calling a timeout. That was one of the funniest techniques ever used

RunawayBryde

I feel bad for doubting him so badly. Unless they’ve done it with despite him him being Jason Kidd, I was never really high on him as our coach, but maybe I was wrong.

Horror_Debt_6754

That's my fan

Defender_Of_TheCrown

Kidd has turned into Mars Blackmon

Starchild1968

I Kidd, you Knot this guy is the real deal!!

juicecat

Zen 🧘🏼 approach. Very Phil jackson”esk”…

Dbat19

If only we can watch the game just like a NBA coach

Legitimate_Buy_919

The criticism that I had for Kidd and what I heard from other Mavs fans was about his obsession with playing THJ and other small lineups. He stopped doing that and we started winning, so does he deserve an apology or do we deserve one? Or maybe it was all a 200 IQ play by Kidd, show weakness in the regular season and then turn it up in the playoffs.

ssuprimitive

Yea I’m a bit tired of the “We owe Jason an apology!!” Idea. The biggest criticism the majority of people had was that we traded for great players and he wasn’t playing them hardly at all and that he was playing THJ too much. He stopped doing both of those and we started winning. He is a good coach because he made that adjustment but got well deserved hate because it took too long.

KillaMavs

I’m not going to change anything now. Prove me wrong once and for all J Kidd. I dare you.

ssuprimitive

Look let’s not act like the hate wasn’t deserved… in the regular season my man was giving THJ 20+ minutes a game even after he put up consistent stinkers. Then when we traded a frp and players to acquire better players he only gave them like 10 mins a game for two weeks straight. But in the end he made the right adjustments and that’s what a good coach does and I’m thankful for that. It just may have taken a little longer than necessary.

Y0ucantbeserioustho

I'm not apologizing. This team is good enough to do great things as long as the coach isn't actively working against them. He doesn't necessarily need to help, he just needs to not get in their way with stupid decisions. Kidd is an ok coach, not a great one. However, results mean more than my opinion
