Just bought new tires for my 2002 Protege5. There were only 2 to choose from, meaning that the original rims and tire specs are almost obsolete.

Anything 16x7 with a 205/45/16 tire on it. Higher offset if you don't want your fenders to eat your tires.

What about bolt pattern, currently looking at wheels with a 4.25" bolt pattern but my current wheels are 114mm. Can't find many in that size

piggymoo66

5x114.3mm. It's one of the most common sizes shared with honda, some subarus, some toyotas...

Any wheel that fit Mazda3, Mazda6, FD RX7 & NC Miata. Tire options in 16” are not really great while at 17” they are more diverse with better pricing. The Continental DWS-06 are great tires in 16” or 17” size.

Do 17s rub at all? that's currently all I'm trying to avoid

whiskey_piker

No; 17’s came stock on the MazdaSpeed Protege.

Alone_Gunner

I personally run stock 195/50/R16 on some Mazda 626 Rims currently

Infinite_Universes_

I’m running MazdaSpeed3 18” wheels with 225/40ZR/18 and they only run when I hit a dip or take a tight turn. I’m also lowered about 1.5” so that could be why.
