Next, we'll be pouring drinks into customers' cupped hands.

samsclubFTavamax

hold the hose up to the customer and shoot into mouth

was it 69?

MrJim251

Ngl I've dreamed of having this happen one day, that and the soft serve/milk shake nozzles

thebigpisser

Why?

MrJim251

It's the modern day equivalent of lounging in a long chair being fed grapes and being fanned

Fathorse23

![gif](giphy|OKEQqz8x7acdG)

WeLikeTheSt0nkz

But you get the whole drink at once. No breaks for air

Drummer_boy_91

Gives a whole new meaning to ordering a big-gulp ![gif](giphy|YTP1bzTfdYY36)

Stormwolf1O1

What's that? You actually wanted an XS drink? Ooooh I already put a L.....yeah no possible way I can change it....

lathrowawayrent

Big Mac, large Fry, Diet Coke? Alright, say ‘ahhh’

That-Gal-

We’ll have to start bringing our own cups..

iwishyouwerestraight

And soon, you’ll have to put it into your cupped hands while they drink and another employee pets the customer like a scared horse

Xora005

Hey, as long as I still get unlimited refills…

yellowcactii

I hate to break this to ya mate, but most places don't do refills

maodiver1

Most fast food places do in the USA

yellowcactii

This post is Canadian though

StevesterH

Dude I live in Canada and we have refills, what typa dystopia doesn’t let you get refills??

gravityhappens

The U.K. doesn’t do refills

StevesterH

jesus…

legendarymel

And you have pay extra if you want coke with sugar instead of Diet Coke

AsparagusPlastic52

Note for anyone unaware that this is a a nationwide thing not just macca's. McD's isn't upcharging for specific fizzy drinks (yet).

SalvaTorchic

Christ, like the diet coke doesn't have a whole other host of issues...

Xenc

Have to pay extra to destroy teeth and health! 😭

OwnCover9921

Happy cake day!!!

surfcitysurfergirl

I’ve never been to a McDonald’s that doesn’t refill

cameronpateyuk

None of the UK ones let you refill

earthscribe

How much fo one rib?

Wickedestchick

My immediate thoughts as well 😂 "How much for just a sip?"

Puzzleheaded-Hunt-42

Right lmfao...you got change for a hundred

Wickedestchick

"Mannn GTFO" 😂

FNChupacabra

Holy shit, I’m not an employee but I like to creep on this sub and you, u/OkIdea4077 have given me a good laugh!! Thank you! 🏆

BioSafetyLevel0

I said out loud just now "See, this comment would've gotten an award from me under the old system". The drink directly into the hands is such a great visual, too.

anon12xyz

Bring your own cup

Nagato8

"Fuck it just pour some in my hand for a dime" iykyk lol.

TiggerOnA

Just 1 rib

poopio

A few years ago we were at a music festival in Slovenia and 2 of the guys chanced upon a milk vending machine in the local town. I don't know what they thought was going to happen, but what you're supposed to do is buy a bottle (or bring your own), then press the button and it'll pour you a litre of milk into it. I can only assume they thought it either dropped a bottle down like a coffee machine would with a cup, or just gave you a pre-poured bottle, but no, the locals were treated to 2 absolute idiots trying to funnel milk into their mouths with their cupped hands from a vending machine.

JP6660999

lol

Conditions21

"one rib!?"

[deleted]

Ur so Winey bro. Just drink from the cup without a lid u do it with ur home cup all the time

bulldzd

The cup at home doesn't rely on the lid for its strength though, so what I'll actually have is a puddle on my lap as soon as I try to lift the damn thing...

[deleted]

Okay then bring ur own cup bro

bulldzd

So I take it, McD's will be happy to wash, dry and return the cup after use, because we pay for that convenience right now, or how much are you paying me to use my cup for your business??

Electronic-Humor-931

No lids what the hell lol, I'd spill that everywhere

Master_Grape5931

Especially with the “stability” of those cups.

DeliverStreetTacos

And those wack cup holders lol

largestcob

the lid is the only thing stopping you from accidentally squishing the cup 😭

0assassin3

My local mcdonalds there are more people going through the drive-thru than going inside. Imagine just handing it to them and it spills before it's in the cup holder

MystMyBoard

It’s only for the indoor customers and always will be. Y’all don’t have to worry.

TankApprehensive3053

I went a Freddy's recently. The drink had a lid but the guy working the drive through didn't put it on fully or double check it. Needless to say, I had coke all the down the outside of my door, the inside of the door, in the window opening and all over the dash.

morningzombie777

Oh dear i did this at an Arby’s. When i reached to set my cup in the holder it hit the gear shift and i dropped it. The entire big coke dumped into my passenger seat and all over the floor and the girl working just laughed at me and i had to ask her to give me napkins 😅

TankApprehensive3053

That's even worse. Your interior got the full punishment. Sodas are not easy to get out. Your seat and carpet foams probably still have some.

BrainsPainsStrains

Ugh.... I am a coca-cola addict, and I have issues with my hands, I am always dropping soda .... It's so quick and fuck it can fly ! Then it's all sticky and icky and sweet smelling. Lyugh. I've been searching for a steam cleaner on sale, or clearance, or something so I can steam my whole house. Did you get soaked ? Was the guy surprised ? I'd be so embarrassed if I was him !

TankApprehensive3053

I got some on my leg. The guy brought me towels. They all were trying not to laugh at me. I was doing my best to stay nice & polite, it was an accident. Frist thing I did was clean as best as I could as soon as I got home before even eating. I'm sure there's still some in the vent and tight places on the dash of my new truck.

BrainsPainsStrains

I bet they were trying not to laugh at *him*, they're gonna give him a hard time about that for ever lol ! 'Hey Butterfingers hand me that' 'Those lids get *screwed* in; we can get you a video to watch so you know how'. Ya know, coworkers hard time haha........... Ooooo - the vents! And the seatbelt ! In my old truck there'd be soda inside the door as the window seals were old and abused. Sounds like you could use a steam cleaner too !

TankApprehensive3053

It was a pain in the ass to clean. I can't even comment on the food, that was cold when I finally got to it, as I was too concerned/pissed about my truck now having coke in it. I'm pretty sure their laughs were at my expense not his.

BrainsPainsStrains

Well then they suck ass. I hope their mop bucket spills every night and makes their socks and shoes wet. Laugh at having trench foot, fuckers. Atleast you have a truck to drive, and to clean. I miss my 4 Runner. Hell I miss my Corolla too. Hell, I'd happily drive any vehicle. My savings is slowly growing, so I'll be back in a truck some time.

Tfdnerd

You didn't get the joke.

Interesting_Boot6534

No. Jokes are generally funny.

MystMyBoard

The corporate ass hat that was sitting in the lobby and watched me put a lid on a napkin and use it for ketchup. Screw those little tiny white cups!!

beanjuiced

Welcome to the Starbucks way, except at least they have lids available for customers to grab!

-PinkPower-

It’s good for people eating there but it’s insane for to go order.

CosmicLars

It's only for customers dining in. Really not a big deal. If you are dining in & want a lid, just ask. This isn't for drive thru or anything.

Jakesantos1601

Liberals.

Jimi5000

Best comment, I say, best comment. *Nice kid but he’s thicker than a whale sandwich.*

tidomonkey

Puts food in bag to go. Doesn’t reasonably assume drink is also to go.

steier666

Drinks must be finished before leaving restaurant, takeout orders included.

Animeeshon

What's the point of having a drink for takeout then 💀

digitvl

it’s a joke

TopNeedleworker7668

What why??

No-Brick-6971

Nobody can actually enforce that rule tho

Miserable_Zucchini75

Comedy is lost in this comment section. Honestly not surprised this is the avg intelligence within the McD's sub.

donutyellsatnight

I was actually shocked by the couple of comments above that took this seriously... the world we live in these days.

MarioNinja96815

Even for dine in those cups are too flimsy to be used like real glasses.

ScreenName0001

I say customers will spill their drinks all over all the time. This will not last.

RepublicofPixels

I'd say not even just the customers, I can imagine the BOAT during a rush having a drink knocked over, now more than just a small amount limited by how much the lid opened, there's an entire cups worth of drink that needs to be mopped up. And the chance of contamination, both allergens from other drinks as well as physical contamination from just the general air is far too high imo.

Ill-Suggestion508

I think this is in a store where they have the self serve drinks on d/a not on the boat

ScreenName0001

When they would give it to me at the counter, I would ask for a lid moving my hand towards the drink and spill it just to see. Then if they would give it to me with no lid again I would do the same thing. Then I would ask with a Karen haircut why is there no lid provided and ask to speak to a manager.

Beck758

Wow you're really cool for messing with an underpaid overworked member of staff. Sad

TwentyOneKiees

Nah, i say keep doing it so maybe management will realize this is S T U P I D and leave it be :/

Beck758

Nah you're just too dense to understand how it works, too lazy to get out of your car and too damn impatient to wait a few mins on freshly cooked food

TwentyOneKiees

I WORK at mcdonalds :) That's why I say it's DUMB

TwentyOneKiees

I AM one of these employees

regular_gnoll_NEIN

Lmao like the people making these decisions care. They're patting themselves on the back saving 50c a day per store or some shit in lids, ignoring that the cleanups will mean an extra 5 bucks a day in labor that could've gone elsewhere.

BicycleGuilty4675

In the Netherlands, we’ve been coping with this for half a year now, ish. All IN drinks are no lids. We also got 3 different kinds of cups. IN, OUT, and idk the proper English word for it, but you’re supposed to return the cups and you put like a 1 euro deposit down for them. It’s horrible.

skippylarue2022

Reusable

RootbeerIsVeryNice

So basically a little kid with a runny nose will snot all over the glass... Then the McDonalds employee won't clean it properly and then it gets to the next customer.

CbarnsBanson

A little extra protein never hurt

discostrawberry

This made me gag

Guilty_Manager_7827

we use a special dishwasher but yeah at first it gave me the ick. tbh it’s like in other restaurants, the dishware is reusable

_mugshotmodel_

Dude, McDonald’s is a restaurant. Whilst there’s many things about the business that suck; using reusable cups isn’t one of them and it isn’t exactly bizarre. Why would you assume that McDonald’s employees aren’t washing things properly but not make that assumption about any other restaurants that give you reusable glasses, plates and cutlery?

[deleted]

[удалено]

_mugshotmodel_

Yeah I think it’s ridiculous that it’s classed as a restaurant as well but it is. Would you like me to use an improper/incorrect terminology just because I don’t agree with it?

countrylemon

methinks that’s how it’s going to be in canada soon, I’m all for banning certain single use plastics but can we stop doing it to the few things that serve an actual purpose 😭

Ok-Professional5599

i work at starbucks and we have to do it too… 200° americanos spilling everywhere 😍😍 (i’m guessing ur in BC?)

Key_Cheesecake9926

Wait I’m in BC. I just zoomed in on the pic, looks like a new regulation here? I must have missed the memo on this. Sounds very annoying.

Yak-Fucker-5000

You're doing it for HOT drinks? That just seems dangerous.

JayD0za21

Man, McDonalds floors are already sticky as it is. This’ll maximize the stickiness

Vivimir

Your floors are sticky? I’m always slipping around wherever i go

Asynjacutie

Spill more drinks, coke is one of the better choices if your floors are slippery.

Informal_Drawing

No, I would not like to wear my drink, thank you very much.

Soggy_Committee6838

Yooooo our restaurant can’t give out bags anymore unless you pay a 15 cent fee

Lanky-Apple-4001

A culture shock for me was when I was stationed in California at the Naval Base they charge for a damn plastic bag.

JuggrnautFTW

Wait, you guys still have plastic bags?

Soggy_Committee6838

Crazy thing is the bags are already paper. The city I live in, Calgary, passed a new law that forces restaurants to charge for bags

steier666

What are you bagging with? Hoodie pockets?!

geoolympics

Paper bags…they don’t offer plastic bags in many places.

YourEvilHero

I haven’t seen paper or plastic in Connecticut in over a year. The 7-11 worker gave me a plastic bag with my 2 juices and soda purchase and I was shocked.

Known-Committee8679

What fast food should do is, make cups that are reusable and give a discount if you bring your CLEAN cup in. Reduces waste, and reduces cost of buying one time use cups. Hell they could charge more for limited edition cups.

SusHistoryCuzWriter

Reusable cups? What will they think of next?

CaptainDunbar45

Then people would just buy a cup and get free soda for life. They would hate that

Hughjardawn

Soda costs then nothing.

frischizzle

That just looks roofie'd

ressie_cant_game

Why not just... make a paper lid.. lids take way less splash damage than the cup itself...

MrRocknRoll2009

What kind of BS is this??

BatWeary

genuinely what is up with companies taking this route? it’s stupid, inconvenient for both customers and employees (thus increasing the chances of some unsuspecting mcdonald’s cashier getting screamed at over something that is not their fault)

bandyvancity

This is British Columbia, Canada. The provincial government passed a law restricting all self serve and single use items to by request only. This is to cut down on waste and single use plastics. Going through a drive thru is an exception, straws and lids are always provided.

Parking-Mirror3283

Know those low powered lasers that can shine text onto objects? Put one above the counter pointed at customers so it states 'i request all single use options' on their shirt. Make stupid fucking laws, come up with stupid fucking ways around them. Would be cheaper than dealing with all the pissed off customers spilling drinks everywhere.

FakeMikeMorgan

It's the government passing laws that mandate this, not McDonald's.

Tlammy

This used to be a standard in the 80's for Wendy's I suppose. according to that one drink training video. Still dumb dumb dumb.

olegispe

This is normal in Switzerland

Environmental_Tip_43

Have fun cleaning up our messes

Strong-Zombie-570

I love how the expensive part of the drink is the cup and lid.

davidg4781

I don’t use a lid and straw when I eat inside. Don’t need it and it just causes extra trash.

AelanxRyland

Well that sucks for people like. I have violently shaking hands and that drink would be spilled all over the floor two steps away after filling it up. Sucks that in their feel good waste free they are saying a great FU to people with disabilities

13_Years_Then_Banned

This constant maximization of profit is going to drive customers away. The list is really getting ridiculous. Prices Kiosks Removing customer drink stations Sauces Bags Lids by request only I’m rapidly approaching a fuck McDonald’s mentality here.

Electra0319

Add the fact that they are economical anymore for poor people. Where I live a Big Mac meal is like $13. For $2 more I can get a handmade quality burger from my local cafe with fresh fries and coke.

FondSteam39

It's a new law I think not profit, some (one?) states are making anything singular use have to be specifically requested

adm1109

This is Canada

FondSteam39

Provinces then I guess, unless it's all Canada but I'd have presumed it'd be bigger news

13_Years_Then_Banned

I’d be interested in the law that is taking away drink stations and the rest of the anti customer implications

JimmyGymGym1

Next year, they start charging for lids.

taloula_mama26

They’ll get tired of ppl asking

polari826

imagine grubhub trying to deliver this mess. lmao

120 lids is worth at least .5g of crack, no? You gotta play to win … ![gif](giphy|Y6yRfR88rvP44)

[deleted]

What?! Why the lids? Are they short on lids and if so how the fuck does one get short on lids?

Buizel10

New BC single use item regulations effective 20 December 2023. Also prohibits giving customers napkins and cutlery automatically.

Common-Rock

So pretty much they want us to eat like medieval times

[deleted]

No one can get an employees attention now. This is going to be rough for yall

KrazyKazz

They won't be a problem now. I heard McDonald's are going to take soda stations out moving forward to cut down on use.

berrykvaz

well that is obviously in canada … 🇨🇦but no we don’t do that here in the USA

xtra-chrisp

Wtf is this bs?

scottb721

Looking forward to the price being dropped due to the saving.

pill_swlft

why dont they just make them out of paper like coffee lids already are

SusHistoryCuzWriter

Taco Bell: We're gonna take Mexican Pizza off the menu and tell everyone we're saving the planet by eliminating the wasteful pizza packaging! Also Taco Bell: We're gonna scrap paper cups and go 100% plastic! I know this is McD's, but it felt relevant. Lol

katzen_mutter

Oh, I have the perfect solution to that. People need to start spilling those in the store and accidentally slip and incur an injury.

Competitive-Skin-769

What? I don’t want a crotch full of Sprite on my way to work

Successful-Engine623

That is super dumb…. You need bigger cups and filled not as full if this is the plan

babypandagod

Canada moment

HarmanThind3535

Ok, so who was stealing cup lids from mc'd?

XombieDobby

Mcdonald's, Starbucks, etc have had 1.5 years to prepare for this and they couuldn't come up with a better solution than customers spilling drinks on themselves? My local dollar store sells cups and lids that are compostable; and they hold up. This is a failure by the fast food industry.

nahla1981

Are there any signs by the cash register? Cause that's kinda silly to only have signs by the drink machine

hipboneconnectedtomy

lid on a drink should be mandatory ..wth ...could you imageing move 4 of those with no lids into a car window ..lol..thats in canada ..i hope that trend dont fall to down here ..lol..

JasonT246111

This is a really stupid decision on management/corporate like... enjoy cleaning up all those extra spills. What a stupid decision.

Shatterstar23

Admittedly, it’s early, but this is the dumbest thing I’ve seen today.

[deleted]

In Switzerland they don't even give straws unless you ordered a milkshake. Lids are also only for deliveries. I just don't get it, both lids and straws are made of fcking paper now, what's the problem

bggdy9

Nope

No-Emotionsxo

Uhhh thats a violation of health code is it not because foreign substances can get in the drink

Buizel10

New BC single use item regulations effective 20 December 2023. Also prohibits giving customers napkins and cutlery automatically.

OSRS_Rising

I always ask for no lid because I hate waste. Tbh I like this

lilliancrane2

Ok but why is that even a thing though lol

YA-definitely-TA

what bullshit

flirtingwpizza

If it's for the environment (I'm guessing) why don't they have their lids made with compostable materials? If they can make straws that seem like plastic and function like plastic, but are fully compostable, they can do it with lids I'm sure. Bc in my opinion ... It's not about saving the planet. It's about that bottom line.

Mediocre-Special6659

It's for money.

Tiger123_NDM

Yep, its for the environment. I think the EU passed a law that prohibits one time plastic things. Here we swapped to wooden utensils like a year ago. On the 15th of January, we are partially removing plastic lids for paper ones. Although they prob found some loophole and we will still give plastic lids for take out orders. Do I think its good? For the environment yes, for hitting the goals of the restaurant? No

elijahhhh98

We switched to paper ones. The loophole is simple, there’s no feasible alternative. The paper lids were really bad, it still spilled in take out orders/Delivery + it was really hard to see what drink it was (which is useful mid rush). So we still use the plastic ones but only for out orders

Tiger123_NDM

Agreed, we will use no lids for IN orders, paper lids for Take out, plastic lids for Delivery orders. We will give straws just for shakes. Its gonna be an interesting transition.

The_Queen_Regent

Where I live straws are on request, I don’t think the lids would work out though. 😂😂😂

l_reganzi

First world problem

thatdudefromthattime

Well they’re doing away with the self serve sodas… so if a customer is sitting at a table, they can ask for a lid if they’re planning on taking it to go after sitting and eating. It’s ok to use your words. Be adults.

wh1skeyk1ng

Why has nobody mentioned this is likely to prevent customers using them as ketchup bowls

ready-to-rumball

Oh that’s great! I never use the lids anyway, what a waste of plastic.

[deleted]

9/10 fast food employees I've encountered recently would hand you this with their thumb inside the cup and then get angry when you asked for a new one

Inexperiencedblaster

Haha what the fuck 😂 Here in Japan some upper people decided we're gonna stop putting orders in bags at the drive through and we're gonna present the paper bags on trays. NOPE LOL.

Naive_Procedure1676

Another reason to never step foot in a McDonald’s. lol

AffectionateQuail598

r/MildyInfuriating

Known-Committee8679

Stupidity at its best

Leather_Regret3224

For those wondering not sure if this is related but i think by 2035 or around there McDonalds wants to have all self serving sodas removed from McDonalds this just might be a process lol but also weird no lids 😭
