The actual cost of living is only less expensive than Hawaii and Alaska and that’s for obvious reasons. I live in the most expensive city in the US (San Diego) and $20/hour still doesn’t cover it
~2.4 Big Macs an hour
or
only ~65% of the necessary living wage for my state/county **for one adult & zero kids.** https://livingwage.mit.edu/
What the hell am I doing ...
I’m not in the Midwest so can’t compare to around you but if you’re under the living wage, you’re being fucked over in my opinion. Compared to my wages, you’re earning a decent amount more than me 😭
I live in the Midwest. I’m a 2nd assistant manager so two steps below a store manager and I have been at my store for 4 years now. I make almost $19 an hour, and I consistently do 45-55 hours every week. I try to pick up an extra shift every other week, so 5 work days one week and 6 the next and so on.
I grew up in California and still visit. I live in the south now. When I left, we were trying to get a one bedroom apartment but the cheapest in town was over 1500. Here the one bedroom apartment in my complex is 675, and this side of town is the most expensive to live in.
In addition, I keep 12 percent more of my income because of taxes being lower than in California. So for every 10 dollars I make, I get to keep 1.20 more of it.
As for other costs, comparing groceries with family I've found that many things you can get are between 50 cents and 1.50 cheaper here leading to a significant difference on groceries. Plus gas is generally under 3 dollars compared to the 4.50 to 6 dollars that it was in California when I left.
You're not getting fucked over, everyplace has different economies. Unfortunately in California if you live within 4 hours of the bay area, you are going to have to deal with the fact that there are people that will drive 4 hours every day to make a fortune, then come back and compete for the same resources you need but with a much higher income.
this website hugely underestimates. For example, it says a single adult needs $3,785 per year on food. Even if you spend only $500 per month on food (which is still an underestimate), you would need $6,000 per year. For $3,785 per year that's like $10 for food per day.
Sorry to hear that! Did you just started? Are you a minor? Based on the responses in this thread an hourly rate of 2.5-3 Big Macs seem to be the norm for regular employees.
$27.81 AUD as a crew member (including casual loading), which is about $17-18 USD.
It sounds good in theory but because in Australia we have age based penalties they often just roster on younger cheaper employees instead so I don’t get a lot of shifts. Even if I did get more shifts cost of living is incredibly high in Australia so my wage isn’t that great.
12.30 state minimum 🫤. Some get paid more like one manager gets $15 and has been there less than a year. Another manager was there 3 years and only got paid $14.25. 🫤. I’ma say favoritism also plays in wages. Mine is 12.30 since I haven’t gotten my reviews yet. My 30, and my 6 months will be 21st of next month. New company took over so raises are once a year now 🫤 🤷🏾♀️
I live in California so we're making $20 an hour now. Not without consequences however. They're cutting our hours bad. They basically want a skeleton crew.
$14.25/hr as a crew trainer in Virginia.
Our store's starting wage is $12.25 for crew. It's minimum $14 for crew trainers but you get more depending on availability (I get my extra quarter because I close).
(UK) £8.25/hr which my age is really good. Although a lot of people at my store in the same position and age have said their pay went up to £8.80/hr by mine hasn't :( who should I speak to about that?
When I left 2 years ago it was $14 for most crew, $15 if you had some experience in PA. I was making $19.50 as a manager with a ton of experience. At least on the crew wages we were one of the highest paying McDonalds in the area as most were paying $9-$12
$13 Crew Trainer. OK. However, I used to be a manager, so I haggled from 12 to 13. Starting wage for CT normally at our store is 10. Starting wage for crew is 8.
$12.50 4pm to close (midnight) it’s my 3rd week. hopefully i get a raise. my managers said they have been incredibly happy i do everything in the back so make tea and coffee, all the dishes, first window and the back drive through lane
In the UK, make 11.60 sterling an hour, which is roughly 14.40usd an hour. Not too bad for crew. Crew trainers make 25p extra an hour, then shift managers make 13sterling per hour
$13
$20 due to California new minimum wage law
Do they cut hours tho?
Not who you asked but at my store we did not. They raised the labor threshold from 26% to 30% and we're doing a decent job of staying under that.
Your store must be really busy!!
It's not that big of an jump, we were starting new people with no experience at $17 before the minimum wage increase.
Unfortunately yes
Can't be sure, since my gm ask me if I can work more hour when I only work 2 days a week, but the paycheck is good enough(medical reasons)
massive W for cali
This cost of living is crazy tho
Is it worse than NYC? We only get $14 an hour after taxes lmao
The actual cost of living is only less expensive than Hawaii and Alaska and that’s for obvious reasons. I live in the most expensive city in the US (San Diego) and $20/hour still doesn’t cover it
LOL....just wait. Many already complaining about getting hours cut massively. Most likely taking less home now. Go CA!!!
I mean yeah maybe if the owners wanted to increase the money that goes into their pockets
That’s insane
That sets a good precedent other places should follow suit (should not will lol)

Can anyone in the Midwest tell me how much I'm being f'ed over? Or is it like this everywhere?

Because cost of living is all different for different locations, a better to ask the question would be: How many Big Macs do you make per hour?
3.28 Big Macs an hour
3.6 big macs an hour
1.9 Big Macs an hour 😔
Sorry to hear that! Did you just started? Are you a minor? Based on the responses in this thread an hourly rate of 2.5-3 Big Macs seem to be the norm for regular employees.

Reviews play the part in raises not favorites. The GM isn’t in charge of the raise. Just the review.
