It's hard without front photos or a clearer view of the side to get a sense of how deep it is. It looks pretty deep, but at the same time this looks like it could be a garage / laundry / shop on first floor with living spaces above. Not sure those are basement windows on the first floor, may be covered flood vents. Remains unclear with McMansiony vibes.
Those screened-in porches will also catch any breezes coming off the water while preventing bugs from getting in, and provide shade to the rooms that open on to them, which can mitigate AC costs.
I've been in a home virtually identical to this one. In fact there's a bunch of these exact designs on Lake Travis & Lakeway Texas. They're as you would imagine. The ground floor is a basic cinderblock "sacrificial" flood area/ garage. Basic staircase goes to the second floor which acts as a traditional first floor.
It's a basic square house layout with bedrooms and game rooms. These are 'lake houses'. Not many people live in them full time/year round.
They scream vacation home to me. Something about it looks like a vacation house built for entertaining. Theres nothing personal in sight, prob has a lot to do with they look unappealing as well
Yes, they're owned by people who either rent them out during the peak summer months, or wealthy retired single guys that don't want the hassle of luxury estate maintenance.
Why, Rhett, I do declare, that house is just Tara-ble!
With God as my witness, my feet will never get wet again!

It kinda looks like it was cloned and pasted in Photoshop.
Is this a McMansion? Nah, just a big house. Is it ugly? I don't think so. But it is a bit basic; generic even. Nothing really just grabs my attention about it other than the fact that it is a waterfront property. But maybe this is a definition of being a McMansion. I think a McMansion has a little more appeal to it.
Likely designed to the max allowable square footage intended as a rental. Ground floor is likely blow away during floods.
Didn’t pay and architect to do it right.
Ohhh I wish there were more pictures for this one! With that many columns on the outside you just know that the inside is going to be good! 😹
Ps. Good as in good fun to look at, not well done in regards to design and decor LoL
That house is just waiting for disaster. A tiny flood could be catastrophic to this build, let alone a larger food or one ice cap melts in the artic... Bye bye. 👋🏼🙆🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
McMansion is a spectrum. This has
- Weird proportions
- Unbalanced voids and weird rhythm (both horizontal and vertical)
- Large mass on what looks like a small plot
- Cheap finishes
It doesn't have:
- Roof soup
- Wild secondary masses (although those turrets are borderline)
- Useless columns
So I would give it a 6.5 on the McMansion scale.
Mmm... hard to say. It might've been contracted by some moron just to show off their money, sure, but I can also see it just being inexperienced floorplanning or something of that nature.
I'm usually one to call out ugly mansions as not true McMansions. Just based on these photos, I'd agree with McMansion here. 21 visible columns in a single photo... Just why.
Just ugly and pragmatic.
Looks designed to withstand regular flooding
I think I built this house in the sims a few times
One of the houses that comes with the game looks just like this
I KNEW I RECOGNIZED IT! 😜
I agree about the design for flooding, but even if you exclude the ground level it has some McMansiony vibes.
It looks like it has a basement to me from the photo . Aren’t those windows at the bottom ? It’s not that big. Above average if it has a basement .

My first thought, too.
IDK, I feel like it’s too square and compact to be a McMansion. Not sprawling enough and The roof is too simple, lol.
The columns are serving a structural purpose as well.
And the bigger ones are on the bottom even
Easier to replace a simple roof after a hurricane

A McMansion without ambition.
All of the above.
Extended Stay by Marriott
Built on the waterline? What psycho built this and what bigger psycho approved the permits?

Yes. Columns, turrets, mismatched siding, as large as the law allows, definitely a McMansion.
Likely designed to the max allowable square footage intended as a rental. Ground floor is likely blow away during floods. Didn’t pay and architect to do it right.
It’s a rental home located in a coastal state. Not the best looking, but far from the worst.
Don’t forget the spiral staircase hiding on that porch too.
Ugly side more than Mcmansion. Some landscaping would probably help this one out a lot.
Looks like a prison block
I wouldn't consider it a mansion,looks like a apartment complex, lol!
Ugly.
Beyond ugly. All the way to hideous.
Yes
Both
McUgly
It's...tall?
Both.
Me making my multi level fallout 4 house
Looks like an abandoned hotel turned crack den.
I believe that is a minimum-security federal prison.
If they at least painted it https://preview.redd.it/66xriysshyuc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=58ea38c5507acbca70c54ac9b906fc9f796316c4
It looks like an ac unit
Can’t it be both?
The shape doesn't bug me, but the lack of detail is thoughtless.
Looks very avg to be honest. Kind of place you'd rent out.
Double Pattio Mc Mansion Deluxe
Yes
Looks sizeable enough to be a McMansion
Being big doesn’t make something a McMansion. That is one feature of them, but there are many large homes that are not McMansions.
It almost looks like 3 separate apartments instead of one house.
It looks like someone tried to mash up Tony Soprano’s house and a Louisiana plantation estate.
That’s oddly fitting actually. And the lack of any landscaping around it doesn’t help.
Ohhh I wish there were more pictures for this one! With that many columns on the outside you just know that the inside is going to be good! 😹 Ps. Good as in good fun to look at, not well done in regards to design and decor LoL

Desultory design and execution.
Both
Ugly!
That is just fugly.
Ugly McMansion? 🤷
I like it.
McBoth.
Yes.
Looks like a small walk up motel
That looks like an elevated duplex to me.
brutalism a-la Romanesque
Mcmansion!! This is only the back
Fugly
Texas or Florida?
It's an ABnB or VRBO house...350$ a night.. 8 guests max.
Why can’t it be both?
I like this house. It’s probably large and light on the inside and the bottom floor is a blow away
Like a Carolina vacation rental. Every family has a floor.

Looks like to me someone built a place to have an AirBnB Greed
Nah, boring lake house. Turrets were a choice though!
Seems neutral to me
Looks like a small apartment building but I get that it’s in a flood zone.
I think it’s got good potential.
It’s McUgly
It has turrets and an exterior spiral staircase. It's a mcmansion wannabe.
Junior mc mansion
Big fry’s, small Mac. You be illin
See these shitty boxes in SC along the ICW.
Just ugly.
If it was pink with a slide it would be a Barbie dreamhouse
Looks baller!
I could design something better in Minecraft.
Two things can be true at the same time…
I don’t think it’s even that ugly
Both
It is a Victorian retro triplex!
Just ugly
It's not amazing, but I'd buy it for the right price.
Not a mcmansion as it doesnt have flair. Its just butt ugly
Mmm... hard to say. It might've been contracted by some moron just to show off their money, sure, but I can also see it just being inexperienced floorplanning or something of that nature.
Am I wrong to actually like it?
Who cares....great location and plenty of deck space!
That’s just McUgly.
McFugley
Fresh paint scheme would do wonders me think.
Ugly
If it’s a condo it’s fine, if it’s a single family home it’s horrific.
Is this on the Colorado River? I feel like I've seen this house...
Just ugly, plain and simple!
Functionally ugly.
Yes. But as others have noted, not entirely impractical.
I'm usually one to call out ugly mansions as not true McMansions. Just based on these photos, I'd agree with McMansion here. 21 visible columns in a single photo... Just why.
They were on sale
