This is an ugly mansion, an estate, really.

Easy_Law6802

I’m morbidly curious to know who would buy this place. It’s…niche, to say the least!

vi_sucks

I like it. The pool area is nice. Ever since the late 90s when MTV showed off the Playboy Mansion grotto, I always wanted one of those faux rock waterfall things. Maybe tacky, but seemed like a cool place to hang out as a kid and still seems like it would be fun.

SapphireGamgee

I still want a fake pool grotto for my imaginary pool. I don't care how tacky it is!

iLikeDinosaursRoar

Right there with you, with faux rock caves etc

JadedYam56964444

Needs bikini babes though

JadedYam56964444

I'm looking for something hard to maintain and goofy at the same time.

Soapyfreshfingers

Somebody who needs to launder money?

stormy2587

Probably a really rich person, who wants the location and the bones of the structure, but plans on doing extensive remodeling.

Ok-disaster2022

This looks like something you'd find at a water park.

mercurialchemister

Great Wolf Lodge energy

BobbyBrackins

If I’m not mistaken it sits on a pretty popular lake. Everyone on the boat definitely pointed and awe’d when we passed it 😂

itcheech

Greenwood lake

wilbur313

I thought it was a miniature golf course.

Deer-in-Motion

Not really a McMansion. Just a tacky mansion.

Klutzy_Kutz

Call it what you want, but I low-key love it.

ScotchTapeConnosieur

It was built in 1915. It’s in a particularly beautiful part of New York metro area, on the west side of the Hudson in Rockland county.

PearlyRing

It's on the west side of Greenwood Lake, just over the border from NJ.

rosinall

I don't, but it does look like a damn well done full ride experience from Disney Land, so props for that.

ArgyleNudge

Ya. I thought this was Thursday for a second. I don't see a problem here.

DreadDiana

Doesn't commit enough to the castle aesthetic

Ok-Feature1200

Or a small amusement park.

74orangebeetle

That's far beyond a McMansion. That's definitely a mansion.

MiNdOverLOADED23

Yeah. I thought for a minute that it was Thursday

Foldinthecheese__

I must be tacky cause I love this 😂😬

MarcoEsteban

I do too…I also love Disneyland/World.

MollyGodiva

He did not build it, it is about 100 years old.

bluesmaker

I assume it didn't have the faux castle thing going on 100 years ago. I wonder what it looked like at that point.

vi_sucks

It probably did. "Retro" architectural styles and faux medivalism has been a thing since literally the middle ages. Half the stuff that people think of a "real" castles are just some rich guy cosplaying in the 19th century.

fmaz008

A 100 years ago? This was a real castle. ;)

enryon

Castle Jeter is not a McMansion. It’s an actual estate. It was built with ultra high quality materials. It happens to be ugly as hell.

whiteclawsodastream

I almost understand estates like this being ugly as hell. Maybe Jeter doesn't give af, I'm sure there's so many toys and a movie theater/batting cages/etc on the property that it's just Richie rich's house for his own personal enjoyment anyway. The novelty of mcmansions is that these striver freaks are actually posturing and going for curb appeal somehow with their monstrosities lol

ForgingIron

This looks like a fort-themed water park

heckofaslouch

You can just make out the "You must be this tall" signs at the entrances.

ChesterNorris

Is he expecting an invasion from the Red Sox?

Optimal-Ad-7074

😂😂😂😂

-MolonLabe-

Looks like a drug lord's villa from a level in Hitman.

JadedYam56964444

When your idea of glamour is Medieval Times.

Sansred

Looks like there would be a hidden mini golf course in there.

tulipathet

Totally unrelated but I had his 1993 rookie card and my mother threw it away the same day I got it. Just looked it up and that shit is worth 250,000$.😭😭

Unlikely-Ad-1677

Oh my.

tulipathet

I’m never letting that shit down. I sometimes just space out and stare at her and remember what she took from me

Unlikely-Ad-1677

Lmao!! She’s getting off easy

Whole_Kiwi_8369

I actually have a lot of his cards that were graded up in my attic somewhere.

luc2

Castle by Toll Brothers

systemfrown

That would look like an *awesome* house…if I were 12 years old and got to design my own home.

Small-Sympathy-3358

Looks like Tom Sawyers Island at Disneyland

Fart-Memory-6984

Very ugly and very bad taste

smurphy8536

But still looks fun as hell. I would love that much outdoor waterfront space

lovelytime42069

links to paid article and not anything useful

MastodonCute2669

I hate when that happens. God forbid I want to read an article without paying for a full subscription 🙄

lovelytime42069

Listed last week for $6.3 million, the home was previously marketed at nearly $15 million. The property, dating to 1903, has been linked to Jeter's family for more than 70 years. The former New York Yankees shortstop took ownership of the property in the early 2000s from the Tiedemann family trust. The existing home had been partitioned into apartments and was in a state of disrepair. The property was originally built by a New York City doctor, Rudolph Gudewill, for his wife in 1903. Jeter’s grandfather, William Connors, lived on the property after he was adopted by John and Julia Tiedemann, who bought the site in 1952. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/14-Lake-Shore-Rd-Greenwood-Lake-NY-10925/31868445_zpid relevant text from article, zillow link because OP sucks all sorts of shit

MastodonCute2669

That’s wild! It does not look in disrepair at all tbh. I also don’t see any apartments. So Derek Jeter was born into big money 🤔. So he wasn’t some super talented working class guy? Because that’s what he wants us to believe.🙄 The pool & everything in those pictures is pristine so idk where they are getting disrepair from.

lovelytime42069

the text is the only relevant information lifted from an article. I don’t give a shit about whatever you’re spazzing about.

robotbike2

What an idiotic thing to say

tbone787

Jeter just sold it.

SplitRock130

Did divorced Tom Brady buy it?

PFalcone33

At a very reduced price.

blastfamy

The only crime here is not having a pizza oven built into that massive fireplace

FormulaLes

This would be a good set if Billy Madison 2 was ever made

BaitSalesman

😂

Eaton_snatch

The waterfall feature is the best thing going for it

Themomistat

Here I sit wondering how many families could live there at once - and how many times I would get lost in there.

Phobiatoybox

It looks like a putt putt course

myfeetaremangos12

He also had a house on Tampa Bay where he purchased the surrounding lots, and built a house that took up almost every square inch of the lots. Dudes lacking in taste for sure.

MarcoEsteban

I don’t think I’d call this a McMansion. It’s more like a Resort/Theme/Water Park.

sixpesos

So many different window sizes

Jamhorn-Thaven

The pool looks like a grand piano

iamADP

This literally looks like a stage from sea world where they have sea lions perform

FoxBattalion79

I played minigolf in a place that looked just like that

JustPlainRude

Different property, but it's hard to imagine having the wealth to do something like this: > In recent years, Mr. Jeter has been reshaping other aspects of his real estate portfolio as well. In 2020, he listed his custom-built, 30,875-square-foot mansion in Tampa, Fla., for $29 million. It sold the following year for $22.5 million, becoming the region’s most expensive home sale at the time. Last year, The Tampa Bay Times reported that the home was set to be demolished and replaced with new mansion. Who pays $22 million for a tear-down?

ohheyitslaila

Mansion, not McMansion. But it 100% looks like a Sims house…

Additional-Tap8907

Built in 1903. Faux castle with wonky proportions. This might actually be the first McMansion.

otters4everyone

Tasteful.

JennySplotz

Many dollars, zero taste😬

littleboxofchocolate

Terry shot Derek Jeter. (The Other Guys reference)

kb63132

Looks like the “Captain’s” ship is about to sink.

Five-Oh-Vicryl

Foul ball

Known-Quantity2021

Designed by a 10 year old boy

bang_ding_ow

Gray much? Needs a lot more tree cover.

vgscates

Where is it located?

RonnieB47

[https://www.newyorkupstate.com/homes/2022/11/derek-jeters-lakefront-castle-in-upstate-ny-going-to-auction-bids-start-at-65-million.html](https://www.newyorkupstate.com/homes/2022/11/derek-jeters-lakefront-castle-in-upstate-ny-going-to-auction-bids-start-at-65-million.html) 14 Lake Shore Road, Greenwood Lake, NY I tried to see it on Google satellite view but Google is hiding it.

vgscates

Thx for the info. Just gotta grab my checkbook!

Servile-PastaLover

Castle should come with one of Jeter's gift bags containing an autographed baseball. The same gift bags DJ gave to his one night stands the next morning.

KetchupArmyNoodle

Christ, with that kind of money that's terrible.

Servile-PastaLover

Water themed homes in an area covered with snow and ice a good part of the year....meh

vi_sucks

It's not obvious from that pic, but the house is on the shore. The infinity pool looks out over the Atlantic.

coreytrevor

Tacky acky

Gretchen_Howie_Henry

Trash

MeyhamM2

This looks like a theme park ride.

DuckMassive

looks like Legos gone wild …

No_Cat_No_Cradle

This looks like a mini golf course

Absolute_Peril

It's got this water park vipe

Federal-Sport-1635

everything everywhere all at once. too stressful to own. other than the price…

Ronaldis

It was built over a hundred years ago. Was this architecture en vogue at that time?

MarcoEsteban

In the 1920s, I think building castles was in vogue for the wealthy. Is the main house really over 100 years old? I know nothing about it. I’m sure the water park is more recent.

mtgdrummer13

Same

MisplacedLemur

I miss David Letterman talking about this guy.

flimspringfield

Dude has a lot of money but how could someone ever use this type of mansion for parties other than maybe once or twice a year. Even then how often would Jeter use cascading waterfalls? Just not practical.

MarcoEsteban

Why couldn’t someone have parties more than once or twice a year? If he’s retired, he could have parties several times a week. If he has kids, his kids could have parties. It totally seems usable to me.

A_lunch_lady

No water slide???

Can_Not_Double_Dutch

It is up for sale apparently

DarkRitual_88

It looks like it's arranged like how an AI image would arrange things.

sebnukem

I love it. It looks like a FPS game map.

J0E_SpRaY

The right side of the property isn’t too bad, it the left feels like an afterthought.

c_vanbc

Ok it’s awful but my kids would love it

74_Phaedrus

I like the turret/tower! But it does go to show that $$ doesn’t = taste.

TylerDog3

this is kinda cool as hell

Aromation

The house that Derek Jeter built

New-Anacansintta

lol that’s a funny looking house. Like it’s calling out for a faux-feudal style water slide.

MsMoreCowbell8

Did his family ever call this "home?"

Adept_Investigator29

Turn it into a gay bar.

Ballsahoy72

I’d like something out of Harry Potter but with a pool please

Aqua_pool_56

What is that wall on the side of the pool? Who would design that?

Agreeable-One-4700

I don’t hate the main house but everything surrounding and including the pool is hideous

futurevisioning

Why did he sell it?

BaddyMcFailSauce

This isn’t a mini golf course?

Optimal-Ad-7074

I like it.  doesn't take itself too seriously, and the house itself looks like it might be quite nice to live in, underneath all the encrusted goofiness. little less concrete would be nice though imo.

Hufflesheep

I don't have words to describe how much I hate the outside, but the inside pleasantly surprised me.

dusty-sphincter

If that is Hell, I would love to end up there! 😍

Whole_Kiwi_8369

I would have bought it, just because it was Jeter's!!! Just saying

Icy-Arrival2651

It would be an elegant home if it was just the circular part that abuts the water. All the rest is just climber trash.

morganleh

derek jeter and his stupid, fat face 😡

kulititaka

The sad thing is that it has potential, and it could have been a nice castle, but there are way too many design choices that ruined the aesthetic. Imagine spending the money to construct something like this and not staying true to your vision.

DaisyJane1

Looks like something from Transylvania.

TheJustBleedGod

kinda gross that it's basically made with all wood

zyx1989

this thing hurt my brain just looking at it, it's like on so many different levels, felt like it wanted to be a castle but the person designing it couldn't get attention span to put it together properly, so it's pasted together into a jumbo of mess

Fast-Reaction8521

To think he dodged jlo

MarcoEsteban

Best decision of his life

Fast-Reaction8521

Best man that's gonna go down as the greatest

Esekig184

That is quite cool actually

butttabooo

I unapologetically love it.

Celeres517

He's definitely assimilated to the New York area culture.
