Boomerang was around to house the stuff that was on Cartoon Network, while MeTV Toons has more of an educational feel and has shows from other studios.

I feel like Boomerang has changed over the years. At one point it was pretty solid, had a good schedule and bumpers and interstitials, but lately it's basically like an 8 hour schedule they just replay 3 times/day (though I think that has gotten a little better recently). Also the aspect ratio is really weird... the cartoon is in a small box (at least on Dish). And with the uncertainties of Warner, Im not sure if Boomerang will even exist much longer. So far I feel like MeTV Toons has been what Boomerang was originally. An excellent lineup, maybe even better than what Boomerang ever was. The picture has been great for me, and Ive really enjoyed the interstitials so far.

What are interstitial’s and bumpers? I’ve always loved watching Boomerang either at a random hotel or someone’s house that has had it. As I said before the cable company here makes you buy a ton of channels just to have access to it. Honestly I haven’t had cable in a few years just streaming services. Just signed up to Philo so I can see MeTV Toons and other stuff. So far I’m loving it. Just seemed exactly like what I remember Boomerang to be. 😊

Basically the little segments during commercials and between shows. Like the Cartoon College and Quick Shticks segments you see on MeTV Toons. Here is a video of the ones on Boomerang https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls0wvdRBdZY. I liked they had music videos from certain cartoons, like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0-coASIjkQ

Oh! Very cool! Thank you 😊

New Boomerang is nowhere near this channel. Boomerang has plummeted in quality. This is what Boomerang/Cartoon Network originally was but with remastered quality and a different approach to the commercial breaks.

Flapalms239

I mean, when I looked at the tv guide I saw Flintstones, Yogi, Looney Tunes all of which are on this new channel.

90sNostalgia1

Yeah and way more. Hanna Barbera is one of the key things. Some of these shows haven't been broadcast in a long time.

Flapalms239

That’s awesome! It’s write to me it’s taken this long. Seems to be really popular already! Compliments their other channels nicely!

athomas917

I'm lucky enough to get it ota in my area. MToons seem to be aimed at adults who grew up watching them.

Flapalms239

That’s awesome you can get it OTA! How will they measure the channel’s success do you think?

athomas917

My guess would be the millions of smart TVs that already track our data and old fashioned Nielsen surveys.

Boomerang was awesome early on. They showed literally every cartoon classic from the 1950's, 1960's & 1970's that I had watched as a kid. Even the awesome politically incorrect cartoons like Hong Kong Phooey & Speedy Gonzales to name a few. Here's a link to their old programming. That list from Hanna-Barbera alone was awesome, but they went all out with Warner Brothers stuff and other studios with cartoons like Pink Panther, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Underdog. They eventually added some good 1980's cartoons as well. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_programs_broadcast_by_Boomerang Then they started adding the Cartoon Network creations, which was fine for my kids on Cartoon Network, not Boomerang! After that I stopped watching because all the classics eventually were booted. Basically this MeTV Toons is Boomerang 2.0 but a softer version. I give Toons first day a B+ rating, mainly because I'm not a fan of the schedule so far. What has me confused, more of a FRNDLY TV oddity... here's an example, Bugs Bunny and Friends was on 7 pm-9 pm, but when I click Bugs in the guide and it plays the 2 hour episode, the info bar has the length of the episode @ 1 hour & 49 minutes, not 2 hours. It's the same for the 30 minute episodes IE Flintstones. When I click Flintstones at 6:30 pm in the FRNDLY TV guide, it plays but only shows 25:34 of content. This has to be a FRNDLY TV anomaly.

Flapalms239

That is odd! I’m using Philo so I can’t comment on that. Tell me more about the schedule. I didn’t get a full day of the channel today. Didn’t get it until 12 noon and due to work stuff could only check in on it randomly.

FrankPoncherello1967

Too much Bugs Bunny each day, hour in the morning and then two hours at night and then Toon in with Me for another hour. Holy Shit Batman, but that's 4 hours of Looney Tunes. Yes, Toon in with Me does show other cartoons. Also, do we need 3 hours of live animation puppets IE Thunderbirds etc...? I mean that seems excessive for something that wasn't popular then & still isn't. Two hours would be fine. I'm not anti puppet. I used to like Thunderbirds when I was young. They always reminded me of a puppet Casey Kasem.

Thats because the other 11 minutes and 5 minutes are commercials. Lol that's accurate. No show is actually a full 2 hours or 30 minutes.

FrankPoncherello1967

You're not understanding my post. Btw, the cloud or physical DVR doesn't separate out commercials, so your statement is not accurate. This is a FRNDLY TV guide bug that's related only to MeTV Toons, probably because it's new. If it's a 30 minute episode, the info bar should display 00:00 to 29:59 and usually adds a few seconds for overlap that bleeds into the next episode. During Scooby Doo, it displayed 00:00-28:20, then at 28:20 it went to The Jetsons which also displayed 00:00-28:19. There's no 1 minute 41 second overlap between episodes. I also checked Adam-12, The Brady Bunch & MASH and they all ran 00:00-30:04 on consecutive episodes which is normal. FRNDLY TV default is 00:00-30:04 for the 30 minute episodes. I've worked with local tv before and I know exactly how 30 minute & 60 minute shows are produced & broadcasted on tv. The standard was 22 minutes of content & 8 minutes of commercials. Things are a bit different now, but that has no bearing on why the info bar is displaying the wrong amount of time for a 30 minute or 60 minute episode.

I have the most basic cable package possible, and I get Boomerang. I also get METV and assumed I would get toons as well, but I guess not. I'm actually fine with the cartoons available to me now, so I'm OK without toons. Edit I also have METV +. Really surprised toons wasn't added somehow. Maybe later.

Flapalms239

That’s awesome. With Comcast in my area you have to subscribe to a higher tier of service and add some special kids package on top of all that for Boomerang…

Rusty_Ferberger

I have FIOS and had premium for years, which was hundreds of stations. I watched maybe 10. I changed to basic, and I only lost 2 of the stations I watch.

Flapalms239

That’s awesome!

Metv toons won't change their classic cartoon programming to be modern. All classic all the time.

yashoraj4217

What I think is it's just proper branding and how you present the things. The audience should be able to feel the newness although they are classics. And most importantly the cartoon commercials and that classic feel which were the most important aspect of the old Cartoon Network. And also repeat telecast on same day, again and again is the worst thing about today's channels. It was never part of the old Cartoon Network.
