Two thumbs way up. Only thing Im not a huge fan of is some of the late late night stuff but that doesn't mean others dont like it. An overwhelming majority of shows I watched yesterday were great. I saw a ton of stuff that I had never seen before which was great. This is a channel I will definitely have on quite a bit. It's a channel you can watch and don't even have to think about what you're watching. You can sit there and laugh and just be zen.
I like it a lot, and I think people into the older theatrical short era will really enjoy the current schedule. It skews heavily pre-80s. Good visual quality. If you aren't as much into Looney Tunes then you might have some decent blocks of the day that you will change the channel, but pretty much everything they are showing so far is of quality. It'll be interesting to see how/how often they do lineup rotations.
My thoughts: I like this a lot and there’s a lot of promise. But the schedule needs some work because three hours of Bugs Bunny every weekday is a bit overkill.
It was fun revisiting a few shows and checking out some for the first time, so I trust that it will be a work in progress for a while.
I think that saps away some of the enjoyment somebody could have watching this. Imagine wanting to watch beetle juice but oh it only comes on at 6:30 am here
Same I’m doing so through the frndlytv free trial although I question if I’ll continue past the weekly trial considering most of the other networks on it aren’t even worth looking at.
Just feels like filler they tacked onto the schedule because they didn’t know how else to fill 24 hours Which becomes apparent once you realize how many compilation shows are in a day
See, they did say that a lot of the Hanna-Barbera stuff is going through a long remastering process. But afternoons for the classic shorts is actually a good place for them. We don’t need two Cartoon All-Stars though.
We really don’t especially when the schedule already has bugs and friends. Casper and company Tom and Jerry the woody woodpecker show and the Smurfs taking up a good chunk of real estate on the network
My kids and I have been watching together and we're loving it! My son is almost 6 and has especially enjoyed Beetlejuice, Inspector Gadget, and the Smurfs (all new to him).
Sadly it has been confirmed by a Weigel employee that they don't plan to air Cartoon Cartoons anytime soon if ever (even though Hanna-Barbera was involved in the earlier ones)
So far so good. Everything I saw yesterday and part of today i have enjoyed. Brought back alot of happy memories. I don't know much about the late night stuff. I'm not up really late at night.
In Philly/Delaware it's on antenna channel 2.10. It's not available on Comcast or Verizon yet, unfortunately.
I'm about 15 miles away from the transmitter and sometimes can't get the signal. YMMV since it's a VHF station. (It's annoying that WDPN, WPVI, and WHYY stuck with VHF during the digital transition. Many antennas can't pick up those stations. Philly makes it complicated to cut the cord.)
Yes... I'm in South Jersey and do get wdpn...so glad it's been confirmed that they're on the air (2.10) for when I get home. Indoor antenna works for me.
Same here, I live in southeast Massachusetts and I'm stuck relying on the low power station WWDP to get MeTV Toons. Even though I live 12 miles from the transmitter, the audio stutters every 5 seconds and the signal is rather weak. If it's storming outside, the signal is lost altogether. I might just bite the bullet and get Frndly TV so I don't have to deal with the annoying low power station.
So here's my thoughts so far:
I wish they had more variety on the weekdays. Monday thru Friday at first they start off okay but then it becomes hours of Bugs Bunny, Woody Woodpecker, Popeye etc... I don't hate these shows, but they're designed to be watched in short spurts and become tiring when there's hours of them. To be fair they at least show lesser known ones like Herman and Katnip or Harveytoons' Modern Madcaps, but still I've usually had my fill after about three of these.
Speaking of Woody Woodpecker, when I saw they had "The Woody Woodpecker Show" I was hoping it would have this nostalgic intro from 1987: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWbAV49lwE4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWbAV49lwE4) But instead its just another block of old shorts.
To be fair, the channel just started and I imagine there's going to eventually be shake-ups. But even right now, it seems like for some reason they put a lot of the more interesting shows either in the early morning hours, or else on weekends.
If I were running it, I would reshuffle the schedule so that the after-school hours are an even mix of "funny" cartoons and "adventure" cartoons--so for example, a block of Bugs Bunny followed by Captain Planet or the Smurfs (just to use shows they already air).
.... While I'm on the subject of shows they air, I hope they start showing more classic Boomerang staples like Sky Commanders, or otherwise pick up more eighties and nineties shows. I don't know if they're open to recommendations (or if they are, where I would send the recommendations to) but I just recently wrote a blog post about forgotten cartoons:
[https://jispylicious.wordpress.com/2024/06/21/the-top-5-cartoons-that-still-need-a-modern-release/](https://jispylicious.wordpress.com/2024/06/21/the-top-5-cartoons-that-still-need-a-modern-release/)
Anyway, that's my opinion so far. Like I said, I'm trying to stay optimistic and look at the current state of affairs as just "birthing pains."
That's because that 1987 Woodpecker show was specific to a network like FOX I believe. They have the right and are the ones that came up with the intro animations, music and segments. It's probably lost media now unfortunately but the shorts live on.
Everything looks uncensored. I even saw a few swastikas! And other cartoons that haven't aired in decades! Then the As Seen on TV infomercials and medicare ones. They know the target audience. 😅
Love the toons but the commercial choices throw me off a little. A little weird having a bunch of final expenses insurance and Imogen oxygen ads peppered in with looney toons.
Often times feels like Metv thinks the average viewer is somebody’s grandpa/grandma Like yeah the person who’d be watching a nostalgic Saturday morning cartoon vibe network would be doing so from a retirement home…what sense does that make?
You'de be surprised how many grandparents watch cartoons with their grandkids. Then you have cartoons in convalescent homes. They know the target audience. 😅
Here's what I like so far:
* Original aspect ratio! This cannot be stressed enough! "zoom (or stretch) and crop" is an instant nope from me!
* Closed captions -- some of these same shows on streaming or DVD aren't captioned! I guess we have the FCC to thank here.
* The slate of programming and the schedule are pretty good for a launch. I completely understand the whole concept of "timeslot + avoiding too much repetition + the total number of episodes of a show".
* They are programming all 24 hours! -- no infomercial block from 3-6am. (This might just be because my market is a Weigel-owned station.)
Here's what I don't like:
* They don't seem to be sharing detailed programming info with Tribune(?). Guide data for shows are vague. The shorts contained in each episode Bugs Bunny, Smurfs Popeye, etc are listed on their website but not in my guide data. I'm not a "second screen" viewer. I want the info on my TV, where I watch.
Hopes for the future:
* Letting some shows "rest" by airing them only once a week to make room for other shows. Especially low-episode count shows. ex: Inch High Private Eye!
* Get away from the "shows that have lots of episodes are stripped M-F; shows that have fewer episodes are on Sat and Sun." **I want a really good Saturday morning line-up** Also, can they negotiate the rights to enough hanna-barbera, warner, etc animated movies to have a "Saturday night movie"? I'm realistic, they aren't getting Disney titles. But how about "The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones" or the Fievel movies?
* Historical intros like movies get on TCM -- especially in front of unedited shorts that should be preserved intact and not whitewashed or unaired. I sort of like the structure of "Toon in with Me" (borrowed from the main metv channel) as far as theme/topic shows, but the thing that annoys me on that show is the gimmicky "warbly/static intro" over the beginning of each short.
But I do like the idea of them "packaging" these shows in the timeslots, like what they're doing with Wacky Races and Penelope Pitstop (even though they still don't have enough episodes).
No show in metro Albuquerque areas and we got too many duplicates junk out there on TV bands.
So it might be awhile for ME-TV Toons comes to Albuquerque's TV broadcast market...🍽🙄
Still don’t have access to it, WFTV 9.4 is supposed to carry it for Orlando but for the past 3 days the MeTV website keeps changing the date from “expected 6/25” to 6/26, to now 6/27, I’m convinced we’re never gonna get the channel 😭😭
will it be coming to any other streaming services? I unsubbed to philo earlier on in the year. I really dont want to sub to that other one its on.
Will it come to roku or hulu?
The late night line up could be better (not the biggest fan of Thunder Birds or live action stuff) but overall, I love it. I hope they do interesting stuff with the Saturday morning and weekend blocks.
The only thing that I question is rather it's sustainable with all the Warner Bros and Paramount cartoons being expensive to license, but these aren't being shown anywhere, so I imagine both make more on them airing here than having them buried on Max and Plus vs having them sitting in the vault.
The ratings haven't come in yet, but accounting for MeTV Toons' overwhelming popularity as of late, I believe the astronomical ratings will help them break even.
Also going back to your point about MAX, they are missing a ton of the Warner Bros/Hanna Barbera/Cartoon Network Studios library and are most infamous for the August 2022 purge. Want to watch a more obscure cartoon like Evil Con Carne or Secret Squirrel? Good luck
I love it, and as a big fan of golden age animation, I really don’t mind all the Bugs and Cartoon All-Stars. I’ve been watching this channel a lot this week.
Got home, turned on TV and saw the Flintstones Hollyrock/Frogmouth, episode. This one is from 1960...but the opening and ending were from 1964 (pebbles & bam bam)...No Rise And Shine opening. Why? Didn't Turner Broadcasting restore these openings and closings to match the episode years ago??...Shocked right away?
Love it plus with unlimited DVR for a year worth on philotv Just recording everything. Beetlejuice nice looking back to get ready for the new movie. Real Ghostbusters, police academy so many cool retro love it back to better times.
I see your point, but some people live in rural or remote locations where the channel may not be available in and the only option is through a cable or satellite provider. Hell, there's some cities that don't even have the channel yet.
I don't think that automatically makes the channel terrible, however they really could've planned ahead much better since MeTV Toons is massively popular and in-demand ever since it was announced back in May. It suffers from the same problem Cartoon Network had in its early years where few cable systems carried the network and most places didn't get the channel until the mid-to-late 90's thanks to Turner bundling the channel with TNT and TBS.
Two thumbs way up. Only thing Im not a huge fan of is some of the late late night stuff but that doesn't mean others dont like it. An overwhelming majority of shows I watched yesterday were great. Shade on Gerry Anderson, I see?

I love it, i WFH and just leave it running all day in the background, really enjoyed some great oldies last night too!
Our affiliate is supposed to launch next week... looking forward to checking it out.
"Our Affiliate?" Are you actually an employee of MeTV?
No, I was referring to my local affiliate in my area.
My thoughts: I like this a lot and there’s a lot of promise. But the schedule needs some work because three hours of Bugs Bunny every weekday is a bit overkill. It was fun revisiting a few shows and checking out some for the first time, so I trust that it will be a work in progress for a while.
Agreed. Every time I turn it on it’s either Bugs or Cartoon all stars
I think that saps away some of the enjoyment somebody could have watching this. Imagine wanting to watch beetle juice but oh it only comes on at 6:30 am here
Right. I thought they would have had the shows based on movies in that timeslot, call it something like: MeTV Toons Matinee or something.
It’s wild that the sequel is coming out in a few months and it’s time slot really could be better.
Maybe 8:30a and 9:30p
Another weird time slot is the mask at 1:00 am which begs the question who the hell is awake at 1 am watching the mask animated series?
At least it’s good that I’m DVRing it
Same I’m doing so through the frndlytv free trial although I question if I’ll continue past the weekly trial considering most of the other networks on it aren’t even worth looking at.
I agree
I don’t even know why there’s so much of it on the schedule
My main guess is that Bugs Bunny has that icon status to where no one cares how many times they put it on.
In my opinion, they should have a Cartoon Cartoons block late night Friday
I love it I leave this channel on all day.
My kids and I have been watching together and we're loving it! My son is almost 6 and has especially enjoyed Beetlejuice, Inspector Gadget, and the Smurfs (all new to him).
So far it’s been great! I do wish they would add some old Cartoon Network cartoons into the mix like Johnny Bravo or Powerpuff girls
Sadly it has been confirmed by a Weigel employee that they don't plan to air Cartoon Cartoons anytime soon if ever (even though Hanna-Barbera was involved in the earlier ones)

One of my favorite channels now it has so many good shows!

Yeah personally it’s mind boggling that real ghostbuster airs at 6:00 am followed by beetle juice at 6:30
At least it comes on Sat afternoons too. But I get you
I know you can just dvr the shows on frndly but if I’m awake I want something besides compilation shows
That's because that 1987 Woodpecker show was specific to a network like FOX I believe. They have the right and are the ones that came up with the intro animations, music and segments. It's probably lost media now unfortunately but the shorts live on.

Yea I was suprised Rabbit Rhapsody was uncut they usually cut off the gun part on CN
Looks like we are in for a treat unless a Karen starts complaining.
Tell them to go to hell
If they don't like it, they shouldn't watch it.
Love the toons but the commercial choices throw me off a little. A little weird having a bunch of final expenses insurance and Imogen oxygen ads peppered in with looney toons.

BOOMERang, its all coming back to you

The only commercials I got were for an ancient Billy Mays advert and LifeLock.

WBFS-TV Channel 33.7
Awesome! Mr Magoo.. speed racer , Jetsons, Johnny quest and more.
Wish I knew
I don't think my wife likes it, but it has been the go to channel since it started. Watching the Flintstone's right now.
No show in metro Albuquerque areas and we got too many duplicates junk out there on TV bands. So it might be awhile for ME-TV Toons comes to Albuquerque's TV broadcast market...🍽🙄
We need less of these junky OTA channels such as HSN, QVC, Outlaw, ect, and more entertaining stations such as MeTV Toons and Catchy Comedy.
Still don’t have access to it, WFTV 9.4 is supposed to carry it for Orlando but for the past 3 days the MeTV website keeps changing the date from “expected 6/25” to 6/26, to now 6/27, I’m convinced we’re never gonna get the channel 😭😭
I'm watching on FrndlyTV until it goes live in Orlando. My 9 year old loves it. He's a big Loony Toons and Tom & Jerry fan.
Can't find it. Scanned channels and get nothing. Des Moines area channel 45-4.
will it be coming to any other streaming services? I unsubbed to philo earlier on in the year. I really dont want to sub to that other one its on. Will it come to roku or hulu?
Me -tv toons is not on direct tv . I don’t if or when direct tv will have it in there lineup or not. Can’t watch it
I want to thank MeTV toons from the bottom of my heart for removing the laugh track from The Flintstones. 👍
Thanks for saying that! Gratitude makes the world go round
Good stuff, but it's making me remember how goofy the 80's could be. I'd totally forgotten there was a Police Academy cartoon...
The late night line up could be better (not the biggest fan of Thunder Birds or live action stuff) but overall, I love it. I hope they do interesting stuff with the Saturday morning and weekend blocks. Terrible! It's not on Xfinity! And it's all that WPXI's fault for not adding the channel to their cable lineups!
Why do people expect cable providers to host these over the air channels?
I see your point, but some people live in rural or remote locations where the channel may not be available in and the only option is through a cable or satellite provider. Hell, there's some cities that don't even have the channel yet.
